Tottenham Hotspur could look to vastly improve one major part of their squad heading into next season, according to reports - with a move for Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar being lined up as they look to shore up a leaky defence.
Spurs have already conceded 31 goals this season, more than most top half teams, and their nine losses in the Premier League from just 23 games is quite the unwanted record.
Their goalkeeping ranks will be looked at alongside their defence, and that could see Svilar targeted for a mega-money move to London after his burst onto the scene in Rome over the past two seasons.
Report: Tottenham 'In the Race' to Sign Svilar, He'd Cost £62million
The report by Sport Witness states that Tottenham were in the race to land Svilar from mid-January, with current goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario being 'of interest' to various Serie A clubs, who he could join in the summer.
Svilar has been 'among the best goalkeepers in Europe', and that led to Roma wanting around €70million (£62million) for the Belgian-born star if he was to be allowed to depart in the January window.
Last season, he had a save percentage of 77 percent and kept the joint-most clean sheets in Serie A, extending his contract until 2030 in the summer, and so it would take a lot of money to prise hm away from the Italian capital.
Chelsea and Bournemouth are thought to be keen, as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, and it would be no surprise to see his interest rise across Europe given his recent statistics.
Any move would see Svilar become the third-most expensive goalkeeper in football history, behind Liverpool stopper Alisson Becker and Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has since joined Arsenal - and there would be vast pressure on him to succeed in the top-flight with Tottenham having struggled defensively in recent months.
Tottenham Need an Upgrade on Vicario to Progress
Vicario has been a decent shot-stopper for Tottenham, though when you look at the other goalkeepers in the Premier League, he is not in that bracket.
David Raya, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Alisson Becker and Emiliano Martinez have all been superb stalwarts across Europe for the past few years, and Vicario is in the tier below them.
Every statistic on Svilar points to him joining the quartet in the world-class category, having already made 114 appearances for Roma and a further 23 for Benfica during his career, becoming their first-choice over the past two seasons and mounting an unlikely title charge.
