Tottenham fans believe Adam Wharton is already on his way out of Crystal Palace after a comment he made at the club’s kit launch left many scratching their heads and speculating wildly about his future.
While Tottenham’s focus in recent weeks has been on bolstering their attack, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Spurs are still keeping tabs on potential midfield reinforcements, with a move expected once the Morgan Gibbs-White deal reaches its conclusion.
Several midfielders have been linked with a switch to north London this summer, including Douglas Luiz, who is reportedly keen on a move to Hotspur Way, and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace.
Although Thomas Frank has urged Tottenham to sign Wharton, viewing him as an ideal addition this window, a report from Alasdair Gold suggests that Tottenham are unlikely to splash the cash on the Crystal Palace holding midfielder.
Spurs supporters have made their stance on Wharton quite clear, with many on social media expressing a desire to see the Palace midfielder make the switch to N17.
That interest has now intensified following a brief but telling interaction between Wharton and Ollie Thomas on TikTok, which has been making the rounds on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

When Thomas said, “looking forward to seeing you rocking this shirt this season”, in reference to Palace’s new kit, Wharton responded with a single word – “hopefully” – which Tottenham fans quickly picked up on as being anything but convincing.
One fan said it was “crazy” to hear the Crystal Palace midfielder say such a thing at a kit launch, commenting: “ ‘Hopefully’ at the kit launch is crazy.”
Another supporter pointed to Wharton’s body language, suggesting that the way he lowered his head and looked at the ground when saying “hopefully” betrayed a deeper reluctance. He remarked: “Body language was off when answering that, was it not? Why head down, look at the floor with the ‘hopefully’ response?”
A third fan took it a step further, summing it up bluntly: “Oh he is gone.”
Wharton price tag could put off Spurs despite midfield need
Wharton has built up a decent level of Premier League experience already, having featured regularly for Crystal Palace over the past season and a half, with more than 30 top-flight appearances under his belt.
However, it remains unlikely that Tottenham will sanction a move worth in excess of £100 million this summer, particularly after already spending £55 million on Mohammed Kudus and potentially committing a further £60 million to secure the services of Morgan Gibbs-White.
At just 21 years old, Wharton still has four years left on his current deal at Selhurst Park, placing Palace in a strong position when it comes to negotiations, as they are under no immediate pressure to sell.
