Tottenham Hotspur supporters have had their say after Fabrizio Romano delivered a fresh transfer update involving one of the club’s young forwards.

It never really worked out for Alejo Veliz in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt. The Argentine managed just eight appearances for the Lilywhites during his time at the club, which was littered with several loan spells.

Those loan moves spanned across sides in Europe and South America, following stints at Espanyol, Sevilla and Rosario Central – his latest loan move secured in the summer.

The 22-year-old has shone in Argentina with his boyhood club – both before and during his Tottenham career – scoring 25 times in 82 appearances. However, he is now finally set to depart Spurs permanently.

Alejo Veliz’s exit sparks Tottenham fan reaction

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bahia will pay €9 million (£7.8 million) plus add-ons for Alejo Veliz, who will have his medical at the club in June when the transfer will be completed permanently.

Spurs fans have now reacted to the latest report, with many feeling like the Veliz transfer was a waste of time.

One fan said: “Another Levy signing… What a waste of time and effort.” One fan labelled it just “another loss making signing.”

Another commented: “Waste of time signing.”

A frustrated Tottenham fan said: “This one just about sums our transfer business up since moving to the shiny ENIC bowl.”

At least one supporter was satisfied, adding: “Fair enough getting that much for him!” While a final supporter stated: “Pointless signing.”

Youth recruitment risks Tottenham must weigh

Indeed, these are some of the risks that come from signing young players with potential. There is every chance that they might never reach the desired level to contribute to one’s first-team squad.

Spurs, however, at the moment have several youngsters with huge potential, and they must learn from Veliz’s situation to ensure they select the right path suited to their development.
