Sunderland have made their presence in the Premier League felt in more ways than one, and their latest victory over Chelsea has come with a cheeky twist that involves Tottenham Hotspur.

The twist and drama in the Premier League is already in full flow, with a few surprises having already sprung up.

Chelsea are the latest to be stunned, and it was newly promoted Sunderland who did the stunning as they beat the World Champions 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

That result now sees Sunderland leap all the way up to second place, having collected a rather impressive 17 points in their opening nine games.

Sunderland’s win over Chelsea sparks Tottenham chant

Chelsea took the lead early on against the Black Cats, with Alejandro Garnacho striking inside the opening stages, but a well-worked goal from a throw-in saw Isidor draw the visitors level.

However, right at the death, a swift counterattack saw Sunderland snatch all three points through Talbi, after Chelsea’s defenders simply forgot to do their jobs.

MORE SPURS STORIES

During their clash with Chelsea, Sunderland supporters made sure to have some fun at the expense of Enzo Maresca’s men, as chants about Tottenham Hotspur echoed around the Bridge.

The travelling fans could be heard singing, “Oh Tottenham, we love you,” in what was a playful jab at The Blues.

Chelsea face Spurs next as London rivalry heats up

Of course, the rivalry between Spurs and Chelsea is nothing new, given that they are both London clubs and have long shared a fierce, sometimes bitter, competitive edge.

The Blues will be desperate to bounce back quickly from their latest disappointment, but their next Premier League fixture brings another major challenge – a meeting with Thomas Frank’s Tottenham side.

Chelsea have an excellent recent record against Tottenham, having won the last four meetings between the two sides, yet Frank’s men will be eager to flip that script and pile further misery on Maresca and his players.
