Tottenham are planning to improve their pool of young talent in the squad.
Tottenham Hotspur have a lot of work to do in terms of rebuilding their squad. They have started the summer well, agreeing terms with Bournemouth central defender Marcos Senesi and Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.
Next on the agenda appears to be addressing the team’s midfield conundrum. Yves Bissouma is set to be released upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June, while Joao Palhinha’s future remains up in the air. Pape Matar Sarr is wanted by some top European clubs, and it won’t be surprising if Archie Gray demands a loan move away from N17 if he isn’t regularly fancied by boss Roberto De Zerbi.
Keeping that in mind, Tottenham would do well to bring in a central midfielder to improve the quality of their squad depth. Recent reports suggest that the Lilywhites are interested in signing Trabzonspor talent Christ Oulai. They have extensively scouted the young midfielder during the recently concluded season.
Tottenham emerge as frontrunners to land Trabzonspor midfield talent Christ Oulai
Christ Oulai joined Trabzonspor from Ligue 2 side SC Bastia last summer. He was a key figure for Trabzonspor as they enjoyed a strong league campaign and won the Turkish Cup. The Ivory Coast international registered two goals and four assists in 31 appearances, drawing the attention of several clubs across Europe.
Chelsea, Brighton and Bournemouth have been showing interest, but according to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, Tottenham have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Oulai. RB Leipzig and SL Benfica are also understood to be in the race for the African talent, who was among Trabzonspor’s best performers during the 2025/26 season.
Aged 20, Oulai is not the finished product in any sense. The central midfielder is very young and has a lot to improve. If he joins, the Ivorian won’t be deemed as an immediate starter in De Zerbi’s side. Oulai will be given time to adjust to the demands of Premier League football.
The former SC Bastia prodigy may be at an early stage of his first-team career, but it is clear that the North Londoners see something in him as one for the future. During Tottenham’s scouting missions, Oulai showed our officials what he can do, so it will certainly be interesting to see if a deal can be done heading into the summer transfer window.
