Tottenham are scouring the market for a new goalkeeper.
There is expected to be plenty of transfer movement at Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The North Londoners have verbally wrapped up deals for Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, as well as are in talks with Manchester City to sign Savinho.
There will be further arrivals with new additions to the midfield and attack expected, and potentially a new face in goal. Guglielmo Vicario, who has been the club’s No.1 since 2023, has been heavily linked with an exit from White Hart Lane. The Italian goalkeeper was wanted by Inter Milan for several months, only for the Serie A champions to drop their interest. However, that hasn’t closed Vicario’s door for an exit.
Recent reports suggest Juventus want to bring Vicario back to Italy. They are not entirely convinced by Michele Di Gregorio, and want the Tottenham man to be their No.1 next season. Should and when he departs, Roberto De Zerbi would want a reliable No.1 in his squad.
Tottenham identify PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as potential Guglielmo Vicario replacement
According to a report from French outlet Jeunes Footeux, Tottenham have identified Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as potential Vicario replacement.
Lucas Chevalier arrived at PSG from LOSC Lille as a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma last summer. He was immediately thrust into the spotlight and struggled to maintain consistency. That led Luis Enrique to make the difficult decision to bench the Frenchman in favour of Matvey Safonov.
After becoming a regular between the sticks, Safonov played a key role in Les Parisians’ Ligue 1 and Champions League success. As a result, Chevalier’s future at Parc des Princes is very much in doubt, and if he has any hope of becoming France’s undisputed No.1 in future tournaments, he should be playing regularly no matter what. A move away from PSG is what the 24-year-old requires, and Tottenham could become an ideal destination for him.
Spurs can guarantee the ex-Lille star a starting role and an opportunity to rebuild his stock. Chevalier is a quality goalkeeper and would be an upgrade over the error-strewn Vicario. He has good command in the box, can claim crosses and distribute the ball well. De Zerbi needs his goalkeepers to be calm under pressure with the ball at their feet in order to build attacks from the back, and the Frenchman possesses these qualities.
Under an ambitious new head coach with a clear five-year vision, and a modern stadium that will host European football should the rebuilding project succeed, Chevalier can get back his mojo and solve Tottenham’s goalkeeping conundrum for several years.
