Arsenal's bitter rivals Spurs have potentially given them a boost in next season's Premier League title race
Tottenham Hotspur has taken the transfer window by storm adding £237million worth of talent and even begun to catch some glares from the fans of Premier League champions and their bitter North London rivals Arsenal. There is no doubt the investment was needed.
But Sunderland have risen to the fore; Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth are all taking points off the biggest sides and chasing European football, with three of the four achieving it last season. Aston Villa qualified for the Champions League, with Manchester United, who look to be a real threat, so Spurs are playing a big game of catch-up, explaining their business.

However, Newcastle United, who have slumped in league standings, have remained a thorn in Arsenal’s side. Doing the double over the Magpies last season has not been a regular occurrence.
The last time The Gunners managed it was in 2021. Anthony Gordon has gone to Barcelona, and Sandro Tonali is moving to Spurs, however. This has severely weakened the northeast side.
Arsenal’s record against Spurs, meanwhile, has been excellent. The last time Spurs won against Arsenal in the league was in 2022, which is their only win since December 2020.
Arsenal did the double over Spurs in 2022/23, 2024/25 and 2025/26. A 2-2 draw at the Emirates prevented it in 2023/24, but the dominance has been clear – Newcastle have been far more challenging.
And so with Spurs weakening the Magpies, and perhaps Arsenal furthering the damage if they successfully sign Bruno Guimaraes, the Gunners’ north London rivals might have given them a Premier League title boost when all is said and done.
