Tottenham Hotspur have joined the summer battle to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, journalist Fraser Fletcher has claimed.

The Europa League winners made initial contact with Simons’ representatives in January and remain keen on signing the Dutch international, who is wanted by a host of Premier League clubs.

London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal both hold the 22-year-old in high regard, while Liverpool have earmarked him as a potential alternative to Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, who remains their top target.

Simons is expected to depart Leipzig this summer, despite only joining the Bundesliga club permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in January, and is reportedly available for £65m.

Tottenham Eyeing Move for Xavi Simons

Among Premier League clubs keen on the 22-year-old

According to Fletcher, Tottenham are seriously interested in a move for Simons this summer and view him as a key piece in their attacking rebuild.

The Lilywhites have lacked depth in the midst of an injury crisis this season, and Simons’ versatility would be a valuable asset ahead of their Champions League return.

Although a natural attacking midfielder, the Dutchman, praised as ‘one of the best 10s in the world’, is also able to operate on the wing and has played there extensively for Leipzig this season.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Simons has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 33 appearances this term.

Tottenham are likely to resolve manager Ange Postecoglou’s future before pursuing any new signings, as the Australian tactician is not guaranteed to be in charge next season, despite leading the club to their first trophy in 17 years.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are expected to make a decision over Postecoglou’s future ‘very soon’, as they are still assessing their options internally.
