Tottenham Hotspur are among the frontrunners to sign Juventus striker Jonathan David this month, according to Sports Boom.

The Lilywhites have had a mixed campaign so far and have already moved to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window by splashing £34.7m on England international Conor Gallagher for their midfield.

But Thomas Frank is still keen to add a new striker to his squad amid concerns over the fitness and form of Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani, which has seen the club turn their attentions to a familiar target from previous windows ahead of a potential late swoop.

Tottenham Want to Sign Jonathan David

David, who has been described as 'one of the best strikers in the world', was one of the hottest properties in the most recent summer window in the striker search as he left Ligue 1 side Lille on a free transfer.

Despite constant links to the Premier League, the Canadian opted to move to Serie A with Juventus, but he has found regular game time difficult to come by so far, registering just three goals and three assists in 19 appearances in the Italian topo flight, with only nine of them coming from the start.

That has sparked rumours that the £250,000-a-week star could look to move away ahead of the World Cup this summer in his home nation, and Tottenham are reported to be among the frontrunners for his signature as they look to add more firepower to the squad.

The player himself would be open to a move to the Premier League to test himself, however, Juventus see him as a key member of their squad and are not willing to sanction an exit mid-season.

Spurs view the 26-year-old as the ideal competition for their forward line, and someone whose profile fits what the manager is looking for, but they are not alone in their interest, with a number of other English clubs showing an interest including Crystal Palace.

Tottenham Need Goals to Save Their Season

So far this season, Frank's side have struggled to score goals freely, and the team has come under major criticism from the fans for a lack of entertaining football.

Richarlison is currently the team's top scorer this season but he is set to miss up to two months with a hamstring injury, while Kolo Muani is yet to score in the Premier League, and Solanke has barely played all season.

David's arrival would add plenty of firepower and a great goalscoring record to the side, while also bringing some excitement for fans and fresh legs to spring the squad to life. A deal looks unlikely, currently, but it's one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks just in case things take an unexpected turn.
