Tottenham are in need of a new goalkeeper amid Guglielmo Vicario’s uncertain future.
Tottenham Hotspur have roped in Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively, even before the summer transfer window has officially opened.
In the wake of Spurs’ disastrous 2025/26 campaign, Roberto De Zerbi’s vision to bolster the defensive unit makes complete sense. The North Londoners leaked goals at an alarming rate, and amid the uncertain futures of Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin, they remain committed to improving their defence further. Tottenham are also continuing talks with Brighton for Jan Paul van Hecke.
The goalkeeping department also came under scrutiny this past campaign. Guglielmo Vicario endured another disappointing season, which was marred by a groin problem. He was forced to undergo surgery in late March, resulting in Antonin Kinsky deputising in goal for the final seven games. The young glovesman from the Czech Republic managed to put the demons of Atletico Madrid behind him and delivered fantastic displays to help his side retain their top-flight status. Regardless, De Zerbi wants to have a reliable No.1 next season.
Tottenham make approach for PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier
According to French publication L’Equipe, Tottenham have made enquiries with Paris Saint-Germain over goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as they explore options to potentially replace Vicario.
Lucas Chevalier arrived at PSG from LOSC Lille amid considerable fanfare last summer. He was among the best players in Ligue 1 and won the Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award in the 2024/25 season. However, the Frenchman couldn’t cope up with the pressure of playing at PSG and made some errors, losing his starting position to Matvey Safonov in the process.
Yet, the 24-year-old’s stock remains high, with Benfica, Aston Villa and Juventus also vying for his signature. He is a man in demand, and Tottenham have every reason to pursue Chevalier. Vicario faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium amid his reported links with Juventus. So, De Zerbi needs a strong, long-term replacement for his current No.1, and the PSG man fits the bill perfectly.
The Frenchman is good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and an excellent shot-stopper. He is a highly talented player and isn’t a finished article yet. So, Chevalier would be a smart acquisition for Tottenham should they beat the aforementioned clubs to his signature.
