Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Wolves about a potential move to sign striker Jorgen Strand Larsen in January, according to TEAMtalk.
Spurs have had a difficult campaign under new manager Thomas Frank and currently sit 13th in the Premier League, with just 28 goals scored in their 20 games so far, as the team deal with a number of first-team stars suffering with injuries.
It has been reported that the club see the number nine position as a priority for the January transfer window, with Dominic Solanke's fitness a real issue, and now the club have made a first move for a reported target.
Strand Larsen, who has been described as 'incredible', enjoyed a fine debut campaign in the Premier League last season, where he registered 14 goals to help Wolves avoid relegation. But after a summer of speculation over a move away, he has struggled this year and is yet to find the back of the net.
As a result of that, and with Wolves preparing for life in the Championship after managing just six points from their 20 games so far, the club are now ready to sell him in January to ensure they get maximum value, but his asking price has dropped significantly from the £60m they were demanding in the summer.
TEAMtalk report that Wolves would now accept less than £50m for the Norway international, and Tottenham are one of a number of clubs who have made enquiries into his situation ahead of a possible move for him.
The player was open to a move to Newcastle in the summer as he was keen on Champions League football, and that is something Tottenham can also offer him after they qualified via winning the Europa League last season. So far this season, they have managed three wins and two draws from their six games in the competition, leaving them just outside the top eight with two games to go in the league phase.
Strand Larsen a Richarlison Upgrade?
So far this season, Spurs' top scorer has been Brazil international Richarlison. But while he has found the net more than anyone else, his overall play has left plenty to be desired.
Randal Kolo Muani's loan move from Paris Saint-Germain has been a bit of a miss too, with the Frenchman scoring twice in the Champions League and not at all in the Premier League, while Solanke has managed just 80 minutes of action all season due to injury.
Strand Larsen is a physical presence and has shown that he knows where the back of the net is, but he's struggling currently. However, being able to get him on a cut-price deal could be shrewd business, and when he's at his best he would be the club's best striker, so this could be one to watch over the coming weeks.
