Tottenham Must Hire Club Legend Before It's Too Late

Rumours abound that Igor Tudor could be sacked by Tottenham Hotspur if they fail to beat Crystal Palace on Thursday night.

It is a dire situation that Spurs find themselves in at the bottom of the Premier League table. Wednesday night's results leave the Lilywhites just one point above the bottom three with ten games of the season to go.

Thursday night's clash is their game in hand, having seen everyone else play on Tuesday and Wednesday. Defeat at home to the Eagles does not bear thinking about, but given Spurs' form, it is the only thing you can really think.

Igor Tudor Is Under Immense Pressure Just Two Games In

Tottenham are winless in 2026. Ten matches have passed since the turn of the year and Spurs have drawn four and lost six of them.

Thomas Frank was sacked in February, with a home defeat to Newcastle United the last straw.

Tudor has come in and overseen two matches and is already under threat of losing his job. After two matches!

Given what we've seen in those two matches, it would not be the worst call. You're supposed to have a honeymoon period when a new manager comes in. He's supposed to revitalise the squad, get them back on track and singing from the same hymn sheet. Tudor has failed to do any of those things and Tottenham under the Croatian looks little different to Tottenham under Frank.

There is still no clear style or pattern of play on display. There's a real fragility from back to front, with no defensive solidity, no apparent interest from the players to show for the ball and no threat in an attacking sense.

Tottenham Hotspur Are A Mess From Top To Bottom

There is no getting away from it, the situation at Spurs right now is a shambles.

There needs to be wholesale changes in the summer - not just on the playing side, but behind the scenes too. The long-suffering supporters do not deserve this. What league the club will be in by then is a real concern.

To sack Tudor and move on to a third head coach in one season would show a distinct lack of leadership and direction from the Tottenham hierarchy. Do they actually know what they are doing? Is there a legitimate plan in place, because sacking the firefighter after three matches proves he was not the right man to come in and the process behind bringing him to the club needs to be called into question.

Tudor was supposed to save the club from the ignominy of relegation. If he fails to win against Palace and is relieved of his duties, Spurs will need to find a new willing - good luck with that - candidate to see that job through.

The head coach job in N17 was always seen as something of a poisoned chalice. With the current state the club is in, what can you call it now? Has the Spurs manager role become a Trojan horse? Are there any positives to come out of taking the job?

Saving the club from relegation will be a huge plus for whoever comes in to do it, but it will be tempered with the fact that they should never, ever have found themselves in this position in the first place.

Robbie Keane will not leave his job as Ferencvaros boss just to save Tottenham, he will want a longer-term commitment than being an interim head coach, but he is exactly the sort of person Spurs must turn to.

Tottenham Need Only One Thing If They Replace Igor Tudor

Any suggestion of wanting to see free-flowing, attacking football is gone. It's all about results, that's all that matters right now. Ryan Mason coming back, Jurgen Klinsmann being brought in, Jermain Defoe being handed the reins of his first coaching role, even club legend Ledley King stepping up into a head coach role for the first time ever - anyone who knows the club, loves the club and understands what it means to play for the shirt, fight for the fans and get the team out of the mire is what's required.

Mason would be the obvious choice, given he's done it before and has experience in the dugout away from Spurs too with West Bromwich Albion this season. Klinsmann has a wealth of management experience and has said before that the club is "in my heart". The German even called then chairman Daniel Levy in 2021 after Jose Mourinho was sacked.

He said: "I called him after he let Mourinho go and said 'Daniel what's the case now?' and he said 'listen I have so much to do, sorting things out at the club, let's talk later on' and then I saw all the names walking in and talking and walking out. Spurs is in my heart, absolutely I would consider that, yes."

"Tottenham is Tottenham and you would always listen to that situation, but for me Tottenham is a lot more."

Someone needs to take the players by the scruff of the neck, scream in their faces to sort it out and just go out and show some fight and I think the only person who can do that is someone like the names mentioned above who really care about Spurs as much as the supporters do.
