Tottenham Hotspur have had a busy summer window so far, and now they are looking at ways to trim the squad down.
The north London club have signed six first-team players so far, with Roberto De Zerbi adding Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Marti Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali to his roster of options, while Luka Vuskovic and Will Lankshear have been allowed to depart.
But with more signings expected before the window closes, Spurs are working on ways to balance things out, and one star has been offered out to a Premier League rival as a result.
Tottenham Offer Sarr to Brentford
According to club insider Paul O'Keefe, Tottenham have offered midfielder Pape Matar Sarr out to Brentford during this summer's transfer window.
Sarr, who has been described as 'brilliant', has been at Spurs for four seasons, making 141 appearances and scoring 11 times during his career. That includes 37 appearances last season, which helped him earn a spot in the Senegal squad for the World Cup this summer.
But with Fernandes and Tonali having both been signed in midfield, and Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Archie Gray also options, Sarr's game time may be limited in the upcoming campaign, and that has seen the club make a move to try and potentially offload him.
O'Keefe has revealed that Sarr was offered to Brentford earlier in the transfer window as a potential option to raise funds. While the Bees didn't show an interest at the time, the situation is described as one that has 'potential to be revisited' at some point.
It's unclear how much Spurs would be looking to make from Sarr's sale, but he is currently under contract until 2030, meaning they have plenty of leverage when it comes to demanding a big fee.
Sarr Loss a Blow, But He's Not Irreplaceable
Sarr is one of those players who consistently performs to a good level for Spurs when he is called upon. But in reality, the truth is that he is not a needle-mover when it comes to playing at the very highest level.
Physically, he is an incredibly impressive midfielder, with a top engine and some decent technical attributes to go alongside it. But with the options Tottenham have in their squad, and the way the manager wants to play going forward, Sarr is unlikely to be a major loss if he isn't involved.
Letting him leave would be disappointing because he's a great talent, but he's not irreplaceable, and with the window still open for more arrivals, this exit would probably make sense.
