Tottenham fans will envy Liverpool’s aggressive start to the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have not settled on last season’s Premier League title success and have already made three excellent signings, including a mouthwatering move for German superstar Florian Wirtz.

Arne Slot’s side are also battling Tottenham for Marc Guéhi and could still bring in more new faces as they look to defend their title.

Liverpool’s approach is in stark contrast with Spurs’, who have yet to bring in a marquee signing this summer, but the Lilywhites could be about to receive an unlikely favour from the Reds.

RB Leipzig report interest in Harvey Elliott to replace Xavi Simons

Harvey Elliott has been touted for Tottenham as he looks set to leave Liverpool this summer after almost six years at the Merseyside club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The midfielders’ performances in the UEFA European Under-21 Championships saw him pick up the Player of the Tournament award, highlighting both his quality and his need to play more minutes than he has been afforded at Liverpool.

As reported by The Athletic (1 July), RB Leipzig are one of the clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old, either on loan or a permanent deal.

However, they must first recuperate funds from selling players, including Tottenham target Xavi Simons, who has asked to leave the German club.

With Elliott quickly gaining additional suitors following his stand-out contributions on the European stage, Leipzig will be incentivised to hurry their approach.

This means they will be much more open to offers for the disgruntled Simons, which could open the door for Spurs to seal the transfer quickly.

Simons’ lack of stability is a worry for Spurs

At 22, Simons is the perfect age profile to join Spurs with plenty of experience, but has plenty of room to grow under Thomas Frank and become a permanent fixture for Tottenham for years to come.

However, history suggests that Simons has found settling hard as he has continuously hopped between Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven, and Leipzig without seemingly committing to any project.

His desire to leave the German club less than a year after signing a permanent deal could be a red flag for Spurs, who can’t afford to spend big money on players who may see the North Londoners as a stepping stone.
