Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a key decision regarding Will Lankshear’s development, despite interest arriving from several Championship sides earlier in the season.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Will Lankshear is enjoying a productive spell in the Championship, having managed nine goals in all competitions for Oxford United.

Ironically, the U’s find themselves in a similar position to Lankshear’s parent club as they are fighting to avoid relegation this season.

The Spurs youngster is now looking to spearhead the U’s fight for survival as the Championship season continues to heat up.

Thus far, he has been making a good job of it, scoring two goals in their last three outings as Oxford won both games.

The England Under-21 striker was a target for Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town in the winter window, two sides at the other end of the table battling for promotion.

Middlesbrough are said to have lined up a loan-to-buy deal worth around £15 million for the 20-year-old, dependent on them winning promotion to the Premier League, while Ipswich were also keen on the forward.

Spurs and Lankshear, however, ultimately felt his development would be better served by seeing out his time with Oxford.

Spurs pleased with Will Lankshear loan progress

It is claimed that Tottenham are happy with Lankshear’s progress during his latest loan spell and have high hopes that he will return to challenge for a first-team spot next season.

The young forward will be hoping that he is at least fighting for a place in the Premier League as Spurs continue their battle to retain their top-flight status.
