Tottenham are preparing for a new era under Roberto De Zerbi, and there are going to be winners and losers when it comes to their current squad, with the new manager implementing his own ideas.

Spurs needed a fresh face at the helm after a difficult few months, and De Zerbi now has seven Premier League games to ensure they survive.

Tottenham have no other focus after recently being knocked out of the Champions League, allowing De Zerbi to put everything into the relegation battle.

The Tottenham boss has been working with his new squad for a few days now, with a host of players returning from international duty last week.

Who De Zerbi relies on for the final seven games remains to be seen, and it's going to be interesting to see his first XI when they face Sunderland this weekend.

Palhinha Could Struggle Under De Zerbi

One player who could struggle under De Zerbi is midfielder Joao Palhinha.

The Portuguese international has been deployed in possession-based sides in the past, but he's going to struggle to deal with the intensity of De Zerbi's style.

Looking at the footage from De Zerbi's first training session in charge, there is a heavy focus on short, sharp passing, and intensity out of possession.

That's something that Palhinha struggles with, and he might be one player who sees his game time fall off a cliff under the new manager.

De Zerbi will be spending this week working out who's going to be in his XI for the Sunderland clash, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Palhinha on the bench.

Palhinha Was Shipped Out by Bayern

Last season under Vincent Kompany, Palhinha started just six Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich, which shows the struggles he had in adapting to their style of play.

Kompany and De Zerbi share similar principles in terms of keeping the ball, and Palhinha is going to find it tricky to play at a high tempo, progressing the ball from deep.

Palhinha has played 38 times this season for Tottenham in all competitions, but he's likely to see his game time decrease under De Zerbi.

The former Fulham midfielder will be hoping to impress his new manager over the coming days, and it remains to be seen whether he will be fancied.
