Tottenham are keen on bringing in wide reinforcements in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur have prioritised improving their defensive unit after the past season’s troubles. This has been well-documented with them reaching verbal agreement to sign Liverpool star Andy Robertson and Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi on free transfers in June.
The Lilywhites’ next act appears to be adding to their attacking unit after the injury problems played a big part in disrupting their entire campaign. Roberto De Zerbi was forced to use Randal Kolo Muani on the right flank following injury to Mohammed Kudus. As Kolo Muani largely struggled and failed to make an impact, the Spurs boss even used Djed Spence as the right-winger on the final day of the season against Everton.
As a result, it is important that Tottenham bring in a new winger capable of creating and scoring goals in equal measure. They must splash the cash on the right players and back Roberto De Zerbi in the transfer market. Only then will the North Londoners be able to compete at the top end of the table and close the gap on their rivals next season.
Tottenham face an uphill battle to land Club Brugge star
Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis has been on Tottenham’s radar for several months now. Spurs sent scouts to watch the Greek sensation in action for Club Brugge this past season. In fact, the N7 bosses had viewed as a potential replacement for Brennan Johnson, who swapped Tottenham for Crystal Palace in the first week of the January transfer window.
However, a move for Christos Tzolis didn’t transpire. Having stayed at Club Brugge, he produced a sensational campaign, which yielded a staggering 22 goals and 29 assists in 52 appearances in all competitions. It has been the most productive season of the winger’s career, thus catching the eye of several clubs across Europe.
Spurs, however, could face an uphill battle to land the Greek international in the upcoming transfer window. This is because the 24-year-old wants to join a club that will be competing in the Champions League next season.
“It would have to be a Champions League team from England, Germany, Spain, or Italy. Only PSG is a better option than Club [Brugge]. The Crystal Palace train has already left the station for me,” Tzolis said in an interview with Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad.
Setback for Spurs
Tzolis’ revelation has struck a big blow to Tottenham’s hopes of landing him. The Thessaloniki-born talent has been the Belgium Pro League’s best player and could have elevated De Zerbi’s squad. A left-winger by trade, he would have addressed a glaring issue in the Spurs’ attacking ranks. The Lilywhites are clearly lacking a left-winger who can dribble, carry the ball for long distances, operate in tight spaces and pick out key passes in the final third.
