Tottenham are hoping to sign a left-winger in the coming months.
Tottenham Hotspur have prioritised improving their defensive unit after the 2025/26 season’s troubles. This has been well-documented with them announcing the signings of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, both on free transfers.
There are several other glaring issues within the squad that must be addressed in the coming months. Chief among them is the absence of a prolific winger capable of influencing the game in the final third. Spurs are currently lacking that profile in their squad as they look to compete with the league’s stronger sides under Roberto de Zerbi.
The North Londoners lost Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons to ACL injuries earlier this year, so De Zerbi has to plan without them for the upcoming season. This leaves him with just Mathys Tel as the only recognised left-winger in the squad. As a result, it comes as no surprise that Spurs are keen to sign a new left-winger.
Blow for Tottenham in pursuit of Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli
Recent reports have linked the Lilywhites with Real Betis star Abde Ezzalzouli. The Moroccan international had a strong 2025/25 season, which yielded 15 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, catching the attention of several clubs across Europe. This also led to him being called up to the Morocco national team squad for the World Cup.
However, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, Abde Ezzalzouli and Nayef Aguerd will miss the World Cup due to injury. Marwane Saadane and Amine Sbai have been named as their replacements by the Moroccan football federation.
“Missing such an important tournament is a very hard blow, and I’m not going to deny that it hurts. But it is in difficult moments that faith, patience, and gratitude matter the most. Alhamdulilah for everything,” Abde wrote on his social media.
This should come as a blow to Tottenham in their pursuit of Abde. A left-winger by trade, he would have addressed a glaring issue in the Spurs’ attacking ranks. The extent of the 24-year-old’s injury is not yet known, but getting ruled out of the entire World Cup suggests it is not a minor one. Spurs bosses will avoid taking a gamble on the Moroccan international now, potentially abandoning a move.
The Lilywhites should now shift their focus elsewhere if they are serious about strengthening their wide areas of the squad this summer. They must target a left-winger who can dribble, carry the ball for long distances, operate in tight spaces, pick out key passes in the final third and pop up with goals.
