Tottenham Hotspur youngster Alfie Dorrington is not leaving the club, yet, after performing a last-ditch u-turn on completing a move to Poland, GIVEMESPORT understands.
The 21-year-old looked set to depart Spurs on a permanent basis this summer after Polish side Pogon Szczecin agreed a deal with the north Londoners to sign him.
It looked like the move was sorted, but Dorrington has had a late change of heart and has turned down the chance to move to the continent.
That does not mean he will not leave N17 this summer, but the young defender has made it clear he would like to look for other opportunities in England, rather than going abroad.
Solitary Tottenham appearance was 'amazing' for Dorrington
Dorrington has made just one senior appearance for Spurs since coming through the academy, playing 13 minutes of Spurs' thumping 5-0 win over Southampton in 2024.
Speaking after that debut, he said: "It’s an honour, a true honour. I’ve watched so many of those players, now I’m part of it. It’s funny, when I was a young boy, I didn’t even think of being here on a day like this. I just enjoyed playing football. Now, I’ve come on and made my Premier League debut for the team I grew up watching. It’s unbelievable, really.
“It’s amazing to think I started in the Academy with the Under-13s, straight from Sunday league, five years ago now. I’ve been around the squad, been on the bench a few times, but never actually came on. It’s about being patient, but this shows you can do it.
“Then the moment comes... it felt like I was on the touchline for ages, excited, just waiting to get on. I was thinking, ‘this is what I’ve worked for my whole life’. I just want to thank all the coaches who have been involved in my journey here and elsewhere and my parents for believing in me, taking me to all those games when I was younger.”
Dorrington now looking for opportunities in England
He has spent two half seasons on loan in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen, the most recent of which was the start of the 2025/26 campaign, before ending last season with Salford City in League Two, missing out on automatic promotion to League One by one point and then losing the play-off final at Wembley against Notts County. He was an unused substitute in that Wembley showpiece.
The 21-year-old had looked set to kickstart his career in Poland, with Pogon, who finished ninth in the Polish top-flight last season.
However, that change of heart means he will now assess his options for the rest of the summer and look to make a move elsewhere in England.
