Tottenham Hotspur have their eyes on signing Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, but a fresh twist has emerged according to a top club source.
Tottenham are firmly focused on strengthening Roberto De Zerbi's attack in the remainder of the summer transfer window, having already transformed the club's defence and midfield following two successive disappointing Premier League seasons.
Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka have arrived to reinforce the backline, with exits in that area now expected.
Luka Vuskovic has already completed a big-money move to Brighton and Hove Albion, while Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that captain Cristian Romero will also be leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, with his centre-back partner Micky van de Ven considered 'untouchable'.
Exits may also be expected in midfield too following the big-money double swoop for Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, with Nottingham Forest showing interest in Lucas Bergvall and potential doubts over the likes of Pape Matar Sarr and Archie Gray, who are also attracting suitors.
There have been no exits in attack yet, but De Zerbi is keen to add at least two new faces to his frontline before the transfer deadline on September 1, with a left-winger and a striker looking to be the priority targets.
Tottenham Want Rogers But He'll Have Better Options
A new striker coming in at Tottenham could depend on either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison leaving the club, but it is clear that a left-winger is likely to arrive whatever happens.
Spurs' number one target, like he was last summer, is Manchester City's Savinho, according to Fabrizio Romano, with talks ongoing over a deal to bring the Brazilian to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Liverpool's Cody Gakpo and AC Milan's Rafael Leao are just two of the other names linked with a move, but top club source O'Keefe says that the north Londoners are also 'big admirers' of Aston Villa and England star Rogers, who has been described as 'one of the best midfielders in the world' by NBC pundit Robbie Mustoe.
However, he also confirms that the 23-year-old is likely to have better options than Spurs this summer, with the player already confirmed to be Arsenal's top attacking target in this window.
Another complication is the fact that Villa are said to value their prized asset at £130m, and while Tottenham have shown that they are willing to break the bank this summer, reaching a British transfer record fee would be another level.
Tottenham Make Surprise Enquiry for Premier League Star
Following the arrival of Robertson and Pedro Porro signing a new long-term contract, Tottenham look to be particularly strong in the full-back positions as things stand.
De Zerbi also has the likes of Djed Spence, Ben Davies, Souza and Gray who can play at full-back, which makes the reported enquiry they've made for Nottingham Forest's player of the season, Neco Williams, a little confusing.
England star Spence has been linked with an exit this summer and, like Williams, he is able to cover both full-back positions, which would mean that a move for the Wales international would be more understandable if he does leave.
Tottenham would face competition for Williams' signature though, with Newcastle United and Manchester United both keen on him too.
