It's time for a new episode of Talking Tottenham as our Spurs reporters Alasdair Gold and Ryan Taylor discuss the latest transfer news at the club
Tottenham have spent £237million so far this summer with more to come and the anger it's provoking from rival supporters shows the north London club are shaking up the transfer window.
The £100million arrival of Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali comes off the back of Spurs signing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for £85million and Jan Paul van Hecke in a £52million deal from Brighton. Roberto De Zerbi has also got three free transfers through the door in the experienced trio of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka. Overall it is the most the club have ever spent in a transfer window and it is only early July.
The club's spending as they look to fix last season's problems has sparked outrage from fans of the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle, with both clubs suffering at the hands of the game's profit and sustainability rules. Even pundits associated with both clubs such as Alan Shearer have hit out at Spurs being able to spend so much despite finishing 17th twice in a row.
However Tottenham have so much more room to spend thanks to having had the lowest wages to revenue ratio in the Premier League due to the huge revenue they bring in each year from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and sponsors as well as a previously strict wage structure. The Lilywhites have also qualified for European competition in 10 of the past 12 seasons, appearing in the Champions League in half of those campaigns.
