Tottenham fans will be very excited with the latest name to be placed at the top of the club’s transfer wishlist, as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League has been targeted.
We’re yet to see Tottenham complete a deal in the January transfer window, and while we do hope and expect some business to be done, it could be that the Lilywhites are playing the long game.
It’s said Spurs are chasing central midfield targets at the moment, including Carlos Baleba and Conor Gallagher. But another Premier League star is also on the list.
The only problem is he will cost a pretty penny, and Tottenham are not the only club that would be eager to snap him up.
Spurs have Adam Wharton on their radar
According to a report from TEAMTalk, Spurs have outlined their most ambitious targets for a range of different positions, and Adam Wharton is at the top of the list when it comes to central midfielders.
It is said Tottenham want to make ‘statement signings’ to mark their ambitions of rubbing shoulders with Europe’s elite, and that ‘discreet enquiries’ have been made to sound out a move for the Crystal Palace star.
Apparently, Palace are worried that the good work they have done in the past couple of years is coming undone, and they are not particularly keen to discuss the idea of their best players leaving.
MORE SPURS STORIES
However, Spurs believe Wharton will move on within the next year, on the condition that Palace find a suitable replacement. By the sounds of it, the Lilywhites want to be at the head of the queue when that happens.
This is not the first time Tottenham have been linked with the England international. At the start of the year, it was reported that Spurs would make a ‘significant’ offer for the £100m-rated Wharton.
The plan is to identify the most ambitious target first and work backwards from there if the approach is unsuccessful.
Wharton could transform Tottenham
Apparently, Spurs tried to sign Wharton in the summer but failed in a late attempt to lure him away from Palace. It’s easy to see why he’s at the top of their list, too.
Wharton has come on leaps and bounds since joining Crystal Palace in 2024 and is now considered one of the most talented English midfielders in the game. The scary thing is he is still only 21-years-old and has so much more room to develop into a truly elite player.
His awareness and vision, twinned with incredible composure and a brilliant range of passing makes Wharton the ultimate anchorman, and he would absolutely take the Spurs midfield to the next level.
