Tottenham Hotspur are going into the summer transfer window as massive buyers, with the North London club looking to retool their squad after what was a dark chapter of their club's history, which could've ended worse. The Lilywhites struggled throughout the year, finishing in 17th place, for the second year running, with this finish being much more dramatic, as their Premier League survival was only guaranteed on the final match day of the season.
The North London giants have already secured the signatures of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and, most recently, Jan Paul van Hecke to help bolster their back line. With two of those three moves being free pickups, the Lilywhites retain some serious money to help further fuel their transfer activities, and it appears they could be set for a further cash infusion, as they could be selling their wonder kid, Lucas Bergvall.
Bergvall wants out of North London
According to a recent report from The Athletic's David Ornstein, the Swedish midfielder informed the North London-based club that he would prefer a move away from the club in the summer transfer window.
"Lucas Bergvall has informed Tottenham Hotspur of his preference to seek a new challenge elsewhere," writes Ornstein.
The move comes after the Swedish midfielder's role in the Lilywhites' system shrank following the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi towards the tail end of the campaign, averaging 26 minutes on the field in the last six performances of the season. This reduction in playing time at the end of a season in which Bergvall would record five goal involvements, as well as 10 interceptions and 17 won tackles.
Ornstein was quick to point out that there are a few teams interested in acquiring the young Swedish midfielder in the Premier League, with Chelsea and Aston Villa among the clubs that have reached out in the past about making a move.
"Previously, both Aston Villa and Chelsea established contact with Spurs to check if an opportunity existed — but it was clarified they had no wish to consider a sale and the matter did not advance," explains Ornstein.
According to Transfermarkt, Bergvall's transfer value is estimated to be at €35 million, which, if accurate, would see them make a sizable return on their €10 million paid to Djurgarden back in 2024.
