Tottenham Hotspur‘s Luka Vušković has been on loan at Hamburg SV since last summer.

The Croatia international picked up an injury in April, forcing him to spend a few weeks away from the pitch.

Last weekend, the Tottenham man returned to action in the Bundesliga side’s 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Prior to that, the centre-back started every league fixture since moving to Germany on loan in August 2025.

His league stats per game this season are as follows:

Appearances: 26

Starts: 25

Total minutes: 2.262

Interceptions: 1.2

Tackles: 0.8

Recoveries: 4.2

Clearances: 8.8

Blocked shots: 0.9

Duels won: 7.5

It’s no surprise the 19-year-old’s impressive performances have caught the attention of a few top clubs.

Earlier this week, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany of Barcelona making first contact to sign him.

Hamburg hope to retain Tottenham man

The German club haven’t agreed a purchase option or obligation with Tottenham Hotspur as part of the loan deal. Therefore, Luka Vušković has to return to the Premier League side after this season.

However, Hamburg SV wish to extend his stay and their board member, Eric Huwer, has now confirmed this.

He talked about the defender on the sidelines of OMR Digital trade fair in Hamburg and Welt have relayed his comments. The official insists the Spurs owned player also has a desire to continue with the Bundesliga side.

“We always dream. But the realities of the market are, of course, quite different,” he said.

“If it were up to Luka, I think he would still like to experience the Hamburg atmosphere, the passion, and the development. But we’re at best in the passenger seat. If the door opens even a crack, we’ll be there.”

Vušković’s brother Mario is at Hamburg and is serving a doping ban until November. The former has already talked about his dream of playing with his brother, either at Hamburg or another club.

What next for Vušković and Tottenham

Spurs have three matches left to avoid relegation from the Premier League. Roberto De Zerbi’s side are now 17th in the table, a point ahead of 18th placed West Ham United and five behind 16th placed Nottingham Forest.

If Tottenham Hotspur drop to the Championship, Luka Vušković is more likely to push for a transfer. That could help Hamburg SV secure another loan move.

With the Premier League stay, Spurs will be in a comfortable position to either sell or hold on to him. In that case, Hamburg SV are unlikely to be able to afford this operation.
