Arsenal legend Lauren has made a surprising statement about Tottenham Hotspur’s fight to stay in the Premier League this season.

Spurs are now big favourites to join Wolves and Burnley in the Championship after picking up just one point in their first two games under Roberto De Zerbi.

Brighton’s late equaliser last Saturday came as a huge blow to their chances of survival, with the Lilywhites yet to win a league game this calendar year.

Many pundits cannot see how Tottenham will get enough points to stay up, but one Gunners legend hopes that De Zerbi’s men do manage to pull off a great escape.

Lauren wants to see Arsenal play Tottenham every season

Lauren, who made 159 appearances for Arsenal during his seven seasons at Highbury and was part of their invincible season in 2023-24, has now conceded that he wants to see the Lilywhites stay up.

The Cameroonian admitted that the North London derby is one of the games he looks forward to the most every season, and that he does not want the fixture to disappear from the calender.

The former Gunners right-back told CasinoWizard: “As an Arsenal fan, there is a game we want to see every single season and that is the North London Derby against Tottenham.

“It’s good to be playing your biggest rivals every season. I don’t think Tottenham going down would be good news for Arsenal fans or the Premier League in general.

“It’s good to play them and beat them and I want that to continue. Tottenham relegation would be a big shock to the Premier League but preferably I would see them stay up and we take some points off them again next season.”

Lauren is not the only former Arsenal player to get behind this sentiment. Jens Lehmann revealed he doesn’t want to see Tottenham relegated, while Samir Nasri also wants Spurs to stay up.

Roberto De Zerbi remains confident of Spurs’ survival

Despite seeing Spurs lose against Sunderland and draw against Brighton, De Zerbi has taken plenty of positives from his side’s performances in the two games.

In fact, the Tottenham boss has suggested that his side can win their five remaining league matches if they play with the same mentality and spirit they did against his former side on Saturday.

Spurs desperately need three points against Wolves, who have officially been relegated from the Premier League following West Ham’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday.
