In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are close to recruiting Manchester City winger Savinho this summer. It has been stated that Spurs are inching closer to acquiring the services of the Brazilian talent this off-season.

Savinho’s Lack Of Game Time At Man City

Savinho struggled to earn a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club but managed to catch the eye at times for them in the final third. The 22-year-old scored four times and earned three assists in 36 matches for Man City last season on all fronts.

The Brazilian talent is currently one of the most talented wide players in the Premier League. Hence, Spurs would do well to lure him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later this year.

His current contract at the Mancunian club will expire in the summer of 2031, which could make it tough for the North London giants to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Will Savinho Be A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Roberto De Zerbi?

Savinho is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and can shoot the ball with power from long range.

The Brazilian wide player can contribute by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team in the final third. Savinho is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate as a right-winger or play in the number ten position if asked to do so. He is already quite experienced in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham if they manage to get him on board later this year.

We can expect Savinho to enhance the quality of Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi’s frontline. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

At 22, Savinho has got the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, he would be a good choice for De Zerbi to consider in this transfer window.

Although Morgan Rogers appeared to be a dream transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur last year, Spurs never followed up on their interest and appear to be more into Savinho, Cody Gakpo, and other winger options in summer 2026 with no credible ilnks to the Aston Villa star.

Meanwhile, Tottenham's biggest rivals, Arsenal, have been trying to go all in for Rogers as a solution on the left wing after selling veteran Belgian international Leandro Trossard to the Turkish Super Lig. They had a lot of optimism that they would be able to make the Rogers signing and were seen as clear favorites with how hard they were going for him, but they have been pipped by another rival.

According to a report from David Ornstein of The Athletic, Morgan Rogers has chosen Chelsea over Arsenal. Rogers will be joining the Blues after aggressive recruitment from new manager Xabi Alonso behind the scenes, and Chelsea will be spending 117 million pounds to sign Rogers from Aston Villa this summer to resolve a gaping hole left in their attack on the left wing. He will sign a new six year contract with Chelsea with an additional bonus option year tacked on.

Arsenal are not getting their top targets

While Chelsea are also rivals to Tottenham Hotspur, there is no bigger rival for Spurs than the North London rivals Arsenal, and the schadenfreude of Arsenal missing out on a clear dream transfer target at their biggest position of need on the left wing is too good for Spurs to pass up on.

Arsenal already missed out on Sandro Tonali to Tottenham this summer, as they were the most interested club in the Italian international during the 2025/26 season before Spurs and Roberto De Zerbi pulled well clear of the Gunners this summer.

Now, Arsenal, despite winning the Premier League title for the first time in decades, have lost out on another obvious transfer target to a London rival. Turnabout is fair play, and after Arsenal took Christian Norgaard and Eberechi Eze from under Spurs at the last second last summer transfer window, the Gunners have missed out on two even bigger targets this year to Tottenham and Chelsea respectively.

Arsenal will now have to scramble for other options, but Tottenham will have to be careful not to celebrate too much, because Spurs won't want to lose out on their own top left wing targets like Cody Gakpo and Savinho to the Gunners this time around, too.

Tottenham want to negotiate with Benfica over signing Andreas Schjelderup as they aim to avoid exercising his hefty release clause, sources have told Football Insider.

Schjelderup has emerged onto Spurs' radar after impressing at the World Cup with Norway over the last month.

The left winger registered two assists against Brazil and then scored their only goal in a quarter-final loss to England last weekend.

Schjelderup has been a regular in Benfica's starting eleven over the last two seasons since joining from his boyhood club, Nordsjaelland.

He reportedly has a release clause worth close to £100million, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Tottenham will look to pay less for his services this summer.

The 22-year-old is believed to be considering the possibility of a move this summer, with Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi keen to add a new left winger to his squad.

Tottenham to negotiate deal for Andreas Schjelderup as Benfica stand firm

Benfica have no plans to sell Schjelderup as new boss Marco Silva aims to stage a title push next season.

He registered 17 goal contributions in 46 appearances for the Portuguese giants last term, with his potential clear for all to see as Spurs plot a move.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Benfica want to keep Schjelderup, they don't really want to lose him. He's under contract until 2028.

"He has got a big release clause, I think of over £100million, which I don't think any club would be willing to pay, but clubs will be open to negotiate on that as well."

Tel struggled to nail down a regular starting spot for Spurs last season on either the left wing or as a centre-forward.

He did impress towards the end of the campaign under De Zerbi, but could depart the club this summer just a year after joining permanently from Bayern Munich.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Tel could push to leave Spurs if he feels like he will not be given ample minutes next season.

His potential exit would free up even more space on the left wing, with Schjelderup then possibly set to fill that gap if Tottenham can agree a deal.

The Tottenham Hotspur supporters voted Archie Gray as their Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign, and while Mohammed Kudus may have something to say about that, there is little doubt that Gray was one of the team's biggest breakout stars and most consistent performers - a rare bright spot in a dismal season that could have ended up being even worse.

When Spurs were playing their absolute worst football of the campaign as the calendar flipped to 2026, Gray was the only one in the midfield and defense brave enough to demand the ball, and he was the one with the quality to break the lines.

The thing is, Tottenham had to get a whole lot better in the middle of the park as a whole since Gray was the one man carrying the operation before Roberto De Zerbi came in, relied on the veterans, and shored up the tactics to save Spurs from Premier League relegation.

Archie Gray is too important to lose

That is why Tottenham spent 185 million pounds on the two best available center midfielders on the Premier League transfer market in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. De Zerbi needed more quality, control, and athleticism in the midfield to truly get Spurs to compete in the top five of the Premier League next season.

But that has left Archie Gray in a lurch. He is now, at best, third choce behind Fernandes and Tonali, and he is at De Zerbi's mercy in terms of how many minutes he is going to get compared to Rodrigo Bentancur. Gray had actually been so good that even Thomas Frank started him over Bentancur despite preferring veteran players, but then De Zerbi went right back to Benta, who rewarded his trust with strong performances in the relegation battle.

Tottenham Hotspur have a special player in Gray, and he showed great growth in 2025/26 without having to be jerked around different positions as much, though that was still a problem last season. The new problem is making sure Gray develops and can help the team, because with the summer moves Tottenham made to upgrade the side, they now have to solve the big club problem of balancing future development and winning now.

It is a good problem to have, but, for Tottenham, it is still a problem. Because in order to be a big club year after year, you have to have a way of getting your best young players to fulfill their potential, feel important, and not want to leave. People are already asking questions about Gray's future and how Roberto De Zerbi views him, and Spurs just lost Luka Vuskovic with Lucas Bergvall almost guaranteed to leave. They can't lose Gray this year or next year, too.

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to open formal discussions with Micky van de Ven over a new long-term contract, in what could become one of the most significant pieces of business of their summer. According to TeamTalk, there is growing belief inside the club that the Dutch defender can now be convinced to stay, despite earlier indications that he wanted to leave.

That change in mood is notable. Van de Ven had previously signalled that he was "not interested in discussing fresh terms" and had been "targeting a move away this summer". For a period, Tottenham appeared to be bracing themselves for a major test, particularly amid reports that the centre-back was "leaning towards a move to Liverpool over Manchester United". Spurs, for their part, had placed a substantial valuation on the player.

De Zerbi Impact Changes Tottenham Picture

The key development has been the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi and the dramatic shift that has followed. The report states that "the landscape at Tottenham has changed dramatically following Roberto De Zerbi's arrival", with the Italian quickly reshaping the atmosphere and direction of the club.

It is easy to see why confidence has grown. Tottenham have moved aggressively in the market, already spending more than £225 million on Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson. TeamTalk also reports that a £60 million move for Savinho is close, while the club remain in the market for a striker.

Sources cited in the report say Spurs believe "the transformation under De Zerbi has significantly altered Van de Ven's thinking". There has also been "encouraging communication with the player's representatives during the summer", enough for Tottenham to begin planning formal negotiations.

Leadership Role Could Prove Crucial

One of the more interesting aspects of this situation is the role Spurs may be ready to offer Van de Ven within the squad. Tottenham's confidence is being reinforced by the responsibility they see for him in the next phase of this project.

With Cristian Romero expected to attract serious attention before the window closes, the club are planning for multiple scenarios. If he leaves, Van de Ven is said to be among the leading contenders to step into the captaincy. That is far from a symbolic gesture. Internally, he is regarded as a major figure and, according to the report, De Zerbi sees him as "one of the pillars around which he wants to build his new-look Tottenham side".

This follows another important example inside the dressing room. TeamTalk says Pedro Porro was persuaded by De Zerbi's vision and has already committed to a new long-term deal. Tottenham now hope Van de Ven will make a similar decision.

Tottenham Contract Talks Now Carry Major Weight

For Spurs, this is about much more than retaining a talented defender. Convincing Van de Ven to stay would send a strong message about the direction of the club, the authority of the new head coach and the appeal of the project now being built in north London.

After a period when his exit looked increasingly plausible, the tone has shifted. Tottenham believe "the combination of De Zerbi's influence, major investment in the squad and the prospect of becoming club captain could be enough to secure one of the most important signatures of their summer". That feels like the central point. A few months ago this looked like a likely departure, now Spurs think they have a genuine chance.

Our View

From a Tottenham supporter's perspective, this is exactly the sort of update that brings real encouragement. Van de Ven feels like one of the few players you absolutely build around, elite recovery pace, presence, personality and the sort of authority every top side needs at the back. If De Zerbi has genuinely shifted his thinking, that says plenty about the energy around the club right now.

What stands out most is the idea of responsibility. If Van de Ven is being offered a leadership role, possibly even the armband, that matters. Supporters want players who see Tottenham as a destination where they can lead, improve and compete, rather than a stepping stone. If he accepts that challenge, it could become a defining moment in this rebuild.

The spending helps too. Supporters have waited a long time to see Tottenham act with this level of ambition in the market, and if that investment helps keep top players in place, it strengthens the whole project. Keeping Van de Ven would feel every bit as important as signing a marquee name.

There is still work to do, of course, and until a contract is signed there will be caution. But if Spurs can tie him down after everything that has been reported earlier in the year, it would be a major statement. For fans, it would suggest this is finally a team serious about climbing again, with Van de Ven at the heart of it.

Tottenham Hotspur have already built up a considerably better squad for the 2025/26 season with six new signings this summer, creating a new double pivot of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes with Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke also joining the defense.

But in order to truly compete for the top five, Roberto De Zerbi is going to need a superior attack to lead the charge. Only Richarlison scored in the double digits last season,and aside from Mohammed Kudus, who missed months to end the season with injury, there was not a real difference maker on the wings for Spurs.

Tottenham really wanted to sign Savinho from Manchester City last year, but the Citizens balked at the transfer offers Spurs were sending - and they also did not seem all that interestedin selling Savinho on short notice before the season started. With Antoine Semenyo joining in the winter, Pep Guardiola gone, and Savinho barely playing in the 2025/26 season, Tottenham have continued their interest in the Brazilian international but have been surprisingly slow again to actually signing him.

Manchester City are holding the deal up

There have been a lot of mixed messages on the Savinho track, but Fabrizio Romano has an interesting new report to clear the air. While the world's top transfer journalist clarifies that Spurs and Manchester City have been in direct transfer talks over Savinho for weeks and that he is the Lilywhites clear top target with confidence in a deal from there side, there is something indeed holding back a deal from getting done. Just like last year when Man City shut down shop when they realized they could not replace Savinho by signing Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid, Fab is reporting that a Savinho transfer in summer 2026 still depends on Man City's plans on replacing him.

Now, Manchester City have enough quality on the wings to technically sign nobody. Jeremy Doku, Omar Marmoush, and Antoine Semenyo are excellent players. But with Man City's ambitions on winning the title and how important depth is on the wings, they would ideally carry four great wingers - and Savinho is a tough loss in the Champions League, where he played his best football for the club last season.

So far, Manchester City have not been linked to anyone big as a replacement on the wings, so it is anyone's guess from the Tottenham Hotspur camp as to what is being decided at the Etihad. But now it makes sense why it has taken weeks for Spurs to sign Savinho despite obvious interest on their part.

Tottenham Hotspur are going to have to make serious upgrades to their attack this summer transfer window. They have greatly improved the foundation of their squad this summer with four major signings in Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes, but aside from Mohammed Kudus, Spurs will not have a real healthy star in their attacking starting lineup to start the 2026/27 Premier League season.

What Spurs need, above all else, is goals, and what they need secondarily is chance creation and dynamism. Right now, the only forward Spurs are in active talks for is Savinho, and it has taken a frustratingly long time for the Lilywhites to get anything going with Manchester City for a player who is clearly available at the right price.

Tottenham have been linked to a host of other forwards, too, but it seems like the other big clubs in European football are more serious about signing them.

PSG are keen on Ferran Torres, too

For example, Tottenham have been linked to Monaco's young winger Maghnes Akliouche, but PSG are increasingly in the driver's seat for him. And now, according to a report from L'Equipe's Emery Taisne, PSG and Monaco are about to finalize a transfer agreement for the right winger. The deal will reportedly be done after Akliouche returns from the 2026 World Cup, where his France are facing rivals England in the third place game.

But that is not all. In addition to losing out on Akliouche to PSG despite having the opportunity to sign him when they needed him in the winter transfer window, Spurs are about to lose out on an even better player before even showing interest.

Center forward and left winger Ferran Torres, who can play any position in the front three, is reportedly a key target for Luis Enrique and PSG at striker. PSG reportedly view Torres as the ideal replacement for Portuguese international Goncalo Ramos as the main backup No. 9.

Torres has his flaws and can be a frustrating finisher, but he is a great goal scorer on the left wing and one of the most intelligent players off the ball. He works hard for the team, links up well, understands space, and is a winner as he has been soaking up titles with Barcelona and is on the cusp of a huge trophy under his belt in the World Cup. PSG could very well take not one but two legitimate transfer targets from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

An intriguing exchange idea has emerged, suggesting Napoli could offer Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to Tottenham for Guglielmo Vicario, upsetting Juventus, Hull City and Leeds United.

There seem to be a lot of goalkeepers ready for transfers this summer and it is prompting a merry-go-round on the market.

Napoli are ready to hand the gloves to Alex Meret, which means Milinkovic-Savic is for sale to be replaced by someone more willing to be an understudy.

He had been offered to Hull City and Leeds United, but seems unenthused about either of those options.

The Corriere dello Sport suggests Tottenham Hotspur would be more at the Serbian giant’s level, and they are ready to sell Vicario.

The former Empoli shot-stopper is eager for a return to Italy, and has been among the candidates linked with a move to Juventus.

However, Napoli would also be a promising alternative for him, where he could hope to push Meret for playing time.

Above all, the Partenopei are in a situation where they must sell before signing anyone else due to financial fair play constraints, so an exchange between Milinkovic-Savic and Vicario would make economic as well as sporting sense.

World Cup fever is dissipating, and Tottenham Hotspur's 2026/27 campaign has come into view.

After two woeful domestic campaigns, the second of which almost led to relegation, excitement is building in N17 heading into Roberto De Zerbi's first full season at the helm. And it's not just because the Italian is leading the way; Spurs have also been busy in the transfer market, meaning De Zerbi will have the chance to test out his shiny new toys throughout the summer.

Tottenham 2026 preseason fixtures

Players were back at Hotspur Way on 10 July for the start of preseason, with those away at the World Cup enjoying some much-needed respite. They'll team-up with the rest of the squad in due course, including new signing Jan Paul van Hecke.

De Zerbi will put the players he has available through their paces with a behind-closed-doors friendly against League One outfit MK Dons at the training ground on 22 July.

Then, we're off on tour. Spurs have enjoyed many of their recent summers in the Far East, but are going the extra mile this time around. We're first heading to Auckland, New Zealand, for a friendly against Auckland FC at the iconic Eden Park on 26 July, then making the relatively short trip back across to Australia for friendlies against Sydney FC (29 July) and London rivals Chelsea (1 August) in Sydney.

After wrapping up our three-game slate down under, we'll return for another two friendlies on home soil before the start of the Premier League season.

Spurs are scheduled to face La Liga side Getafe at Hotspur Way on 8 August, then Hoffenheim the following Saturday (15 August). That'll be our first outing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since Joo Palhinha saved the Lilywhites on the final day of last season.

It is a foregone conclusion that Tottenham Hotspur will part ways with Cristian Romero this summer transfer window, and interest in the player is expected to accelerate after the World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain concludes this coming weekend.

Romero had a poor season for Tottenham in 2025/26 as Spurs nearly got relegated, and many Tottenham fans are eager to see the captain go after his effort was questioned throughout the Premier League relegation battle - and things definitely came to a head before the last decisive Matchday of the season against Everton when Romero tried to scurry back to Argentina.

La Liga giants Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are the main two suitors for the back to back World Cup Finalist, but clubs in Serie A are also said to be interested in bringing the experienced Argentinian center back to return to the Italian top flight in 2026.

Teddy Sheringham has a warning for Spurs

Although many at Tottenham Hotspur feel Romero's ship has run its course, former star striker Teddy Sheringham thinks that letting Romero go would be a huge mistake because he has the quality to be even better for a top club like Atleti or Barca next season.

Sheringham said on Come On, via Football.London's Alasdair Gold, "You've got to be careful what you're doing if you're Tottenham just getting rid of him because he's had a bad spell. He could go somewhere else like Barcelona and Real Madrid and hit it off. I hope Roberto De Zerbi can put an arm round Romero but there's always so much speculation about his future isn't there so maybe the writing is on the wall."

Many Tottenham fans want to see the club part ways with Cristian Romero and while all signs do indeed point to that after the signings of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke at center back, the sentiment is not a unanimous one.

Romero has been one of the top center backs in the Premier League and is a proven winner, on the cusp of potentially two World Cup trophies to go with a Copa America and Europa League title. Selling Romero takes a great player away from Tottenham and someone who could fit what Roberto De Zerbi wants to do on the ball and defensively perfectly.

Tottenham won't want to admit that life without Cuti Romero could be tough or that selling him could be something they regret, but Teddy Sheringham's words are a reminder that not everything is so cut and dry when you sell a top player.
