Inter are already planning for the future between the posts, and they have reportedly identified their top target to succeed Yann Sommer. According to reports from Sky Italia, as relayed by Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri have made initial contact for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
The Italian international is seen as the ideal profile to take over the starting role at the San Siro starting next season. The report suggests that Vicario would be extremely keen on a move back to Italy to join the reigning Serie A champions, viewing it as a significant step forward in his career and a chance to compete for major honors in his home country.
However, while the player’s approval may be easier to obtain, the negotiations with Tottenham are expected to be anything but simple. Spurs invested heavily to bring the former Empoli man to North London, and the English club is known for being one of the toughest negotiators in world football. Extracting a starting goalkeeper from a Premier League side mid-project will require a significant financial effort and a complex diplomatic approach from the Inter management.
With Sommer’s age becoming a factor, Inter are determined to secure a long-term solution. The groundwork has been laid with these first contacts, but fans should prepare for a long and difficult tug-of-war with Spurs over the coming months.
This week, Tottenham’s Radu Dragusin has been linked with a move back to Serie A – with Fiorentina and Roma suggested as destinations.
His agent Florin Manea has spoken to DigiSport about the centre-back’s situation, as he has just returned to full fitness and was on the bench in the loss to Liverpool.
Manea clarified that the 23-year-old is looking to play often at Tottenham. If that doesn’t happen, he could seek an exit from the London giants.
He said – relayed by Il Nerazzurro: “There’s some speculation, and we’re analyzing it. The club doesn’t want to sell him right now. However, if the number of games he plays isn’t what we want, then we’ll take that into consideration. I’ll talk to him and we’ll evaluate together.”
Dragusin’s agent described his to be an open situation and no clubs have currently come forward.
“So far, no one has called me. It’s an open situation: there’s interest, even from England, but from smaller clubs. Italy remains a better option, because you’re joining a big team there. I haven’t spoken to Chivu, I just called to congratulate him.”
Manea went on to flirt with Inter and Nerazzurri boss Cristian Chivu, who is a compatriot.
The agent said: “I know Inter will be looking for a central defender in the summer. If we decide that Radu needs to play more until then, we’ll let them know, and maybe Chivu will call me too. He still has four and a half years left on his contract with Tottenham, but the injury has kept him out for eleven months.”
“I can’t allow him to spend another seven without consistency. We need to find a solution to get him playing. He’s 100% determined. Now let’s focus on January, and then we’ll see.”
This should come as a reminder to Tottenham about Dragusin’s availability in the side. It could also put pressure on Frank to use the Romania international often, with ex-manager Ange Postecoglou having often trusted the defender till last season.
