Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham as part of a big-money deal in the summer transfer window, becoming the most expensive player in Italian football history. But the start to the season hasn’t been bright at all, as Spurs are yet to win a single league game.

Before their 3-2 loss to Aston Villa, Roberto De Zerbi’s side had not even scored a single goal, despite having spent a huge amount of money in the summer.

Tonali has been a part of the mess but he spoke to the press before Italy’s game against Turkey. He was asked about the supposed chaos at Tottenham but the midfielder expressed belief that things are promising and they’re creating enough to win games.

He said – via Calciomercato: “Football is very strange; in ten days, everything can change from negative to positive. I would classify our current situation as a club as negative in terms of results but positive for football.”

He also revealed that Tottenham are doing well and the goals should come soon.

“We’re having fun and creating chances. If you don’t score in football, you lose. We’re not in the doldrums; we’re alive and well, and we’re positive.”

Within that, he also urged everyone to have patience with not just Tottenham but with the national team too.

“We know the team is very strong. Here in the national team, it’s different; it’s a very new and young group; we’ve practically never played together. We just have to wait.”

The ex-Milan man does make a significant point. In several games, Tottenham have found themselves in very promising positions and had a very good first-half against both Newcastle United and Villa. Against Nottingham Forest and Everton too, they missed chances and the same was true in the league Cup game against Liverpool.

Serie A side Juventus successfully completed the initial loan signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham not too long ago.

This came after the keeper had endured a period of chaos in London. He was clearly out of the project. Towards the end of last season, Roberto De Zerbi showed an inclination towards using Antonin Kinsky, even if the Italian was fit.

The move from Tottenham to Juve did take a while, though. Several Italian clubs were hunting for him but it appears as if Vicario has joined his dream club.

He spoke to Sky Italia and looked back on his spell at Spurs and gave his views about the move to Turin.

He said – via TuttoSport, appearing grateful about the experience in England:

“I hope I can say I’m more mature and more aware, with a different set of experiences. Going abroad opens you up: you experience different cultures, languages, situations, different dressing rooms, different methodologies.”

“I’ll definitely arrive more complete, even if without the path I’ve taken previously it wouldn’t have been possible. I’m arriving at a club with a huge history, structure, and ambition, and this will be the challenge that drives me every day,”

When asked to delve deeper into what led to the Tottenham exit, Vicario chose to not go into the details.

“I don’t like to talk about the past or what should or could have been done. There were some dynamics that didn’t align, probably for various reasons that don’t make sense to mention now. I want to focus on the present and try to maintain balance in this new adventure.”

The 29-year-old also thanked De Zerbi for giving him the chance to actively seek a Tottenham exit.

He revealed: “What was our relationship like? Fantastic, from day one. I thank him, I did so personally the day I signed with Juventus.”

“He was a genuine, direct person with me, and above all, a man of his word. He gave me the opportunity to take this step I had in mind, he supported me, and I will always be grateful.”

He made it clear the saga was full of stress but he has now accomplished his dream.

“I’ve always maintained my faith, but these were unusual weeks, with a bit of stress, because my dream was to come to Juventus. There are market dynamics you can’t control, the club makes its own assessments. I’m happy they chose me, because this was my biggest dream.”

The change in environment does seem to have helped Vicario, who has already played twice for Juve. His save against Parma was a good sign that things are going in the right direction again.

Pape Matar Sarr has joined Juventus on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day.

The initial loan, which has cost the Old Lady €2.8 million, contains an obligatory buy clause if two conditions are met: if Juve qualify for either the Champions League or the Europa League, and Sarr features in 50% of the games available to him, then the move will be made permanent for €27.5 million.

Sarr’s arrival marks a bittersweet moment for the Bianconeri, who were looking to bolster their midfield with someone more reliable. They were keen on bringing Franck Kessié back to Serie A, and while he has returned to Italy, he has chosen to do so with a second stint at Atalanta.

Nevertheless, in Sarr they have an extra pair of legs that they are going to need throughout the season. With over a 100 Premier League appearances under his belt and over 40 senior caps for Senegal, the 23-year-old boasts quite the experience. The former Metz man was highly regarded throughout his time in North London, though he spent the summer looking for a move away, having had little game time towards the back end of last season after he returned from his shoulder injury and having been pushed further down the pecking order after the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

At Juve, Sarr is hardly going to be the first name on the team sheet either. In return, Juve cannot expect from him the level of control in the middle of the pitch Kessié would have reliably delivered. But here they have made a low-risk deal that could work out for all parties.

The Congolese has made a name for himself as a versatile midfielder capable of playing both advanced and deep roles, though he works best as a No. 8. While his press-resistance has been questioned frequently, his movement, positioning, and pressing have been praised throughout his time at Metz and Spurs. The fact that he earned his place in Ange Postecoglou’s line-up in the Premier League showcases he is a midfielder more than capable of thriving in high-intensity games.

In Serie A, where the tempo is slower and the game is more cerebral, he will have the chance to work on his shortcomings while showcasing his many strengths. Luciano Spalletti could give him ample opportunities, at least in the first half of the season, to prove his worth and showcase his ability to improve his game. All in all, whether Sarr will remain and thrive at Juve will become clear well before the business end of this season.

Serie A giants Juventus failed to land Franck Kessie on a free transfer and saw him move to Atalanta but have now made decisive progress in a move for Tottenham’s Pape Sarr.

Get Italian Football News covered that the two clubs had been in talks, with Spurs having opened up to a loan deal.

Gianluca Di Marzio has now reported that the deal is closing, with Juventus and Tottenham having verbally agreed an initial loan deal for the midfielder.

Once the last details are formalised, the player will fly to Turin for his medical.

Sportmediaset offer more information, reporting that Juve will pay a loan fee of €3 million while having an option to buy set at €30 million. The entirety of Sarr’s salary will be paid by the Bianconeri.

There is confidence that the move has now closed and the agreement might be more than just verbal.

Juve are confident they have beaten competition from Monaco and Besiktas.

In a way, the deal will suit all parties too. Juventus have been in need of a midfielder because of Khephren Thuram’s injury. Sarr, at his end, wants more game time as he has fallen out of favour at Tottenham.

The London club’s manager Roberto De Zerbi himself confirmed Sarr has asked to leave. Besides, they will free up some space from a financial standpoint to potentially land Iliman Ndiaye from Everton.

Serie A side Juventus have been in the hunt for a new goalkeeper for many weeks. Several names were thrown into the mix but they have now settled for Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario, who arrives on an initial loan deal.

The Italian joined the Old Lady after being excluded from Roberto De Zerbi’s project at Tottenham and was essentially third choice in London.

La Gazzetta dello Sport note the key reasons behind the deal and why Vicario is seen as the ideal option.

The player’s push has proved decisive. Juve CEO Giovanni Carnevali had promised Luciano Spalletti a new keeper by today. Vicario had been keen on the move for a while and Tottenham’s openness to a loan deal has certainly helped the matter.

Spalletti had doubts

The Juve boss wasn’t always convinced about Vicario though. He even publicly expressed that, attempting to understand why Tottenham had excluded from their squad. Despite that, the 29-year-old always remained a viable option for Juve.

Aston Villa’s rigidity in a move for Emi Martinez also played a role. They didn’t change their demands, leaving Vicario as the option, especially as Zion Suzuki never joined PSG and a loan to Juve never worked out as a result.

Vicario’s experience valued

The keeper’s experience with the national team and with Tottenham has also played a part in the move. That is also why a move for Martinez was being pursued but Vicario is also 29 and has won silverware with Spurs, having become the second-choice with the Azzurri.

As a result, his personality is valued in Turin, especially with Michele Di Gregorio struggling last season.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are closing in on Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

The move, if sealed, could bring to an end the Old Lady’s long search for a goalkeeper this summer. Having started the summer targetting Liverpool veteran Alisson Becker, the Bianconeri seemed to have found their answer in Aston Villa’s Emi Martínez. But an agreement over fee could not be reached between the two parties, so Juve moved to Parma’s Zion Suzuki.

However, the Japan international soon looked on his way to Paris Saint-Germain, only for Villa to emerge as his possible destination. And while that would once again open the door for “Dibu” to leave Birmingham, the Juve have set their eyes on the former Empoli man.

Vicario has been expected to return to Italy having received Roberto De Zerbi’s permission for the same over the summer. The Italian coach has been sufficiently impressed by Antonín Kinský performances towards the back end of last season and is willing to move forward without Vicario.

Juve are initially taking the 29-year-old Italy international on loan and will have the option to make the move permanent next summer. Vicario still has two more years remaining on his contract with the Lilywhites. He is expected to undergo a medical with the Bianconeri later today.

That should do it

Juventus have arguably found the safest solution by bringing Vicario back to Italy on loan. With no obligation to buy him next year, they will be less worried about his tendency to demonstrate a fluctuation form, while in turn Vicario will be under less pressure and may go on to have a more reassuring campaign back on home soil.

As for Spurs, it will be interesting to see whether going all-in on Kinský works out for them in their quest for a top-half Premier League finish, while it remains to be seen whether Emi Martínez ends his annual transfer window dance by actually leaving Villa this time.

Vicario is clearly out of the Tottenham project and there is no reason for the London club to keep him. As a result, they should accept a loan and somehow just usher the keeper out. Keeping him makes no sense and him leaving would help them free up finances and help the player find a new club.

Serie A side Inter are all but set to seal a move for Tottenham’s Djed Spence, who will arrive at the Nerazzurri on a permanent transfer.

It would be his second stint in Italy, having previously spent a loan at Genoa when things weren’t going great for him at Tottenham.

Inter are paying €31 million plus bonuses for the Englishman, who also impressed at the World Cup for the Three Lions.

What do Inter get?

The deal comes at a point where the last few months have been fraught with uncertainty, when it comes to Inter’s wing-back areas. They missed out on several targets in January and in the summer and Spence is someone who can play on both sides.

Luis Henrique is on his way to Roma and he also acts as a direct replacement. He can also act as a back-up to Federico Dimarco and adds pace to the attack. He thrives on carrying the ball forward with pace and while his final ball isn’t always reliable, he could always be a key player to use off the bench.

He also comes at the peak of his powers. Character wise, he has grown quite a bit at Tottenham, becoming an important player at times. He has risen to fame when very few expected him to and a move to Inter is a deserved reminder of his journey not just at Spurs, but in his career.

Spurs getting good money

Tottenham fans have always been quick to point out Spence’s lack of consistency. Defensively, he could be suspect sometimes too. While playing as a pure wing-back will be a game-changer, Spurs are getting a good package.

This is a player who was deadweight in the squad two seasons ago. His personal journey has been great to see but he is someone who is largely replacement in the current Tottenham side. He isn’t first choice either, with Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro likely to take that role.

Spurs are still making a capital gain, which is good news. Moreover, they get the money which can unlock other attacking incomings like Folarin Balogun, Savinho or even Cody Gakpo.

Serie A side Inter are nearing an agreement with Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of Djed Spence.

A report by La Gazzetta dello Sport reveals that Inter and Tottenham are close to reaching an understanding on transfer fees for Djed Spence. The total deal is expected to be around €30 million plus bonuses.

Following the €20 million transfer of Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid earlier this summer, Inter were left with the task of finding a reliable successor to the right-back role. The Nerazzurri had Spence and Al-Ittihad’s wide midfielder Moussa Diaby in their sights, but negotiations for the latter turned out to be a complicated affair since the Saudi Arabian side had already received a tempting offer from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

Tottenham Pre-Season Return: Will Spence Be Ready for Inter Debut?

The objective right now for Inter is to put pen to paper on the contract for Spence before the start of the season. However, it is unlikely that he will be fit to start the opener since he just returned to training at Spurs following the post-World Cup break. Like his England teammate, Inter’s new signing John Stones is also expected to miss the first match, and should Spence’s transfer go through successfully, both should be fit for the second one.
