Cristian Romero’s exit from Tottenham Hotspur this summer is but a matter of formality. He is also ever closer to sealing his next destination, with Inter ready to conclude negotiations.

But there is one issue.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Romero and the Nerazzurri remain quite some distance apart in terms of salary expectations. The World Cup-winning Argentina international wants €6 million per year in wages, but Inter are as of yet unwilling to match that.

Spurs and Inter are clear on transfer fee. A package of €40 million has been agreed. Inter have also earmarked Frenchman Benjamin Pavard as a possible departee should they get Romero over the line.

Atlético Madrid, long-time admirers of Romero, remain at the periphery of this saga, looking to make a move if the talks with Inter ultimately collapse.

There is a second reason too and it pertains to outgoings. Benjamin Pavard’s exit determines everything. If the Frenchman stays, a deal for Romero would become complex.

A deal very much possible

It is remarkable that a player Daniel Levy had put a triple-figure price tag on no more than two seasons ago may be on the move for the less than €50 million despite three years remaining on his Spurs contract.

Romero may want to leave Tottenham Hotspur, and the club may also have accepted the writing on the wall and decided to plan ahead without him, but the Argentine remains a world-class defenders despite his antics and would absolutely improve what has largely been an ageing defence Inter are trying to rebuild.

Despite their haggling, Inter will be aware of how good a deal they’re getting, as well as how crucial someone of Romero profile is as far as their rebuilding plans are concerned. €6 million per year will hardly break their wage structure, with Lautaro Martinez earning €9 million per year currently.

This may take a while longer, but it’s likely Inter will accept Romero’s wage demands.

Several Serie A sides have been linked with a move for Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario and the player is actively seeking to depart the London club.

Today, La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported some details behind the situation, making it clear that the Italian is now Juventus’ preferred choice for the keeper signing, with a move for Dibu Martinez looking next to impossible.

They add background to Vicario’s situation too, reiterating Roberto De Zerbi’s comments that he did have conversations with several Tottenham players in April, especially those that were looking for summer exits. He asked them for a good end to the season and this will help them seek an exit.

Some weeks ago, the Italian said: “To those who asked me to leave, I told them to help me save the team and then I would help them leave. I never called anyone this summer to convince them to stay. I respect the decision of someone like Romero, someone like Vicario.”

Player wanted to leave in 2025

Further, it is reported that the keeper had initially decided to leave Tottenham last summer, even if the English giants did win the Europa League in 2025. Something in the relationship had broken by then and the Italian grew convinced about the decision as the 2025/26 campaign progressed.

He struggled and often faced the fury of the fans and is now keen on leaving this summer. De Zerbi is a big admirer of the Italy international’s attitude and he could’ve played him by the end of the season. But Antonin Kinsky’s rise meant that it made little logical sense to remove him from the starting spot.

Vicario is now keen on returning to the Serie A and this was his decision even before De Zerbi arrived. Now, he is waiting for progress in a possible move to Juventus.

Serie A side Inter are yet to make a major wing-back signing, having missed out on Anan Khalaili and Marco Palestra. A move for Tottenham’s Djed Spence is slowly gathering momentum.

La Gazzetta dello Sport – via Calciomercato, have reported that next week could be important in the Nerazzurri’s move. Cristian Chivu’s desire to find a new wing-back is driving this, especially as Spence is quite keen on wearing the Inter jersey and return to the Champions League himself.

That is why a meeting with Tottenham has been scheduled. This could be decisive, as Inter are willing to offer €35 million, which is the middle ground of what they offered for Palestra and then for Khalaili. They aren’t willing to offer more than that, and are hoping it proves enough for Tottenham.

During the meeting, Inter will also ascertain if Spurs’ valuation for the player has increased or not after his World Cup campaign. This will be key, as the player can then attract other English clubs as well.

The World Cup campaign has resulted in a sensational uptick in fortunes for the 25-year-old Tottenham Hotspur fullback, who after collecting praises over two trying Premier League campaigns has rose to stardom during England’s semi-final in the US.

Against Argentina, even though it ended it a late heartbreak for the Three Lions, Spence has come out of that game having taken no hits to his reputation — quite the opposite, fact. His last-ditch tackle to deny Giuliano Simeone will remain imprinted in the watchers’ mind for a while, but even apart from that there is no doubt that he put in an unbelievable shift throughout the 90 minutes, keeping even Leo Messi quite on the right flank for the majority of the game.

This inevitably means he will be in demand even more so, and if he puts in another notable performance against France in the bronze final, the Nerazzurri may be pushed to pay even more than the €30 million that was expected to be the price tag up until a few days ago.

But Inter are ready. That number is already expected to go up to €35 million minimum, but after the Marco Palestra and Anan Khalaili debacles, they are in no mood to let another one of their right-sided targets go.

The time is now

An argument can be made that, even if Spence’s price were to go into the €40–45 million range, it would still remain a deal Inter should consider.

Their plans on the right flank have already hit a snag. Clubs will be aware of this, but one can expect Beppe Marrotta to still eke out a favourable deal.

Spence has ably demonstrated that he can do a job at either flank. Inter have a headstart in his pursuit and should absolutely make a move before Premier League interest from elsewhere prices them out of the equation.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have set their eyes on Tottenham Hotspur fullback Djed Spence for their seemingly cursed right flank.

The Nerazzurri simply haven’t had a moment of respite since selling Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid earlier in the summer.

They had Marco Palestra earmakred as the Dutchman’s long-term replacement, only for the young Italian to ditch them for a move to Chelsea at the eleventh hour, much to Beppe Marrotta’s chagrin.

They then had a €25m deal agreed with Union Saint-Gilloise for Anan Khalaili, only for the Italian National Olympic Committee to deny him medical approval.

Now, the Inter want Djed Spence, whose stock is skyrocketing by the minute. The 25-year-old was once available to Genoa at €10 million after his half-season loan at the Luigi Ferraris; now his value has tripled that, and he could go for well more than that given how things pan out over the week.

England face Argentina later tonight in the World Cup semi-finals. Spence has quickly become a mainstay in Thomas Tuchel’s line-up, having earned his first cap just last year. His performances at the tournament haven’t gone unnoticed either, and even if the Three Lions’ journey were to conclude at this stage, Spence will return to club football a wanted man.

It’s not just his recent performances for England. Spurs’ tumultuous fortunes over the past two seasons, bisected by last year’s Europe League triumph, have shone a positive light on several of their young players, who have garnered plaudits on an individual level. Spence is one of them, having delivered on either flank both in back-four and back-three setups.

What’s more, barring outer ligaments that sidelined him for weeks during his loan spell at Leeds United, injuries haven’t troubled him much.

That’s where Inter’s interest becomes understandable. Here’s a fullback whose star is on the rise, someone who has already braced the Italian shores and who could do a job at fullback in which setup Cristian Chivu opts for and at either flank. A fee in the region of €30–40 million will be doable for the reigning Serie A champions, and they’ll be a bit more desperate to get a deal over the line after successive late collapses.

After the campaign he is having, Spence will back himself to play for a bit more than topflight survival next season; vying for the Italian summit would be a good place to start.

Serie A side Fiorentina have made very quick progress in a move for Tottenham’s Radu Dragusin and the player will have a medical with the club soon.

Get Italian Football News have looked at how La Viola reached an agreement with Spurs over a transfer.

The Romanian centre-back arrives in Florence initially on a one-year €1.5m loan, which La Viola will be obliged to make permanent next summer for €17.5 million.

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that a move is indeed in the final stages. The player should arrive in Italy later today. On Tuesday, he will undergo a medical with the Florence club and after that, he will sign his contract ahead of an initial loan deal.

Paratici driving transfer

Fabio Paratici knows Dragusin from his time at Juventus and he was key to bringing him to Tottenham too. Things didn’t go to plan in London as he also picked up a serious ACL injury last year.

But this move to Fiorentina could prove key. La Viola are embarking on a new project and Dragusin can find himself as a regular, which is what the player has needed for many months now.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fiorentina have agreed terms with Tottenham Hotspur over a move for Radu Drăgușin.

The Romanian centre-back arrives in Florence initially on a one-year €1.5m loan, which La Viola will be obliged to make permanent next summer for €17.5 million.

Once again, Fiorentina sporting directoe Fabio Paratici has facilitated a move for the 24-year-old. He was the one who played a role in bringing him to Juventus in the first place, before helping him move to North London in January 2024 as Spurs’ managing director of football for €28 million.

Drăgușin is coming off a season where he hardly had any game time. Despite missing a significant portion of the 2024/25 season due a cruciate ligament tear, the Romania international was available for selection in 2025/26 but found little support in any of Spurs’ ill-fated custodians amid a cataclysmic campaign, managing only 11 appearances.

Drăgușin will have a point to prove

This is a deal that works for all parties. Spurs get to recoup a significant portion of their initial investment back, while Fiorentina get a young Serie A-proven defender for a cut-price deal they won’t have to pay for until next summer, by which point their fortunes will have hopefully improved.

Whether Fabio Paratici really is all that when he’s not under Beppe Marotta’s shadow is something the jury’s still out on, but Drăgușin’s protential is undeniable, and now he has a chance to prove himself all over again — and he’ll get plenty opportunities.

Serie A side Milan have now decided to part ways with Rafael Leao and could be open to flexible options, with the player offered to Tottenham Hotspur.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Rossoneri have begun discussions with the forward’s entourage. The result is that the Portuguese attacker is not part of Ruben Amorim’s plans.

Despite that, no concrete offers have come up for Leao. Barcelona have shown very limited amount of interest and Manchester United haven’t gone beyond initial enquiries. At the same time, attempts are being made to assess Tottenham’s interest and they have been offered the chance to sign the player.

Moves to Saudi Arabia and Turkey aren’t appealing to the player. His entourage will therefore need to work diplomatically to seek out other offers that must not be less than €60-70 million. If nothing works out, Milan could also consider a loan with an obligation to buy.

Spurs could be a viable destination

There have been question marks about Leao’s workrate but a new challenge can reignite his career. Roberto De Zerbi’s side are rebuilding after last season’s struggles and he could become the main man at a club which is showing incredible ambition already, as they try to return to where they belong.

De Zerbi’s system relies on attackers who exploit spaces when the opposition is pressing. This can bring a lot out of Leao, who will have a lot of room to attack and increase his output.

Tottenham Hotspur seem to have beaten Manchester United to the signing of West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes but they aren’t prepared to stop at the Portuguese.

Alfredo Pedulla reports about how the saga has transpired, clarifying that the Red Devils were quite confident of signing the Hammers’ star until yesterday. They held length discussions and believed they were well placed to beat Tottenham.

But in the last ten hours, Roberto De Zerbi has personally pushed for the move and his pressure on Jorge Mendes has proved decisive. Fernandes is expected to cost €85 million and he will go down as Spurs’ record signing.

But soon, that record can break again. In fact, Tottenham remain confident of signing Sandro Tonali too. There is an agreement over personal terms with the Italy man, whose price could exceed the €100 million mark.

Rebuild going right

Tottenham have needed a free-spending window for years now and it is no surprise this comes after Daniel Levy’s exit. There seems to be an understanding that this is needed, especially as the midfield spots were a real problem last season.

Tonali and Fernandes will fix the problems and take De Zerbi’s project to new heights.
