Description

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been delighted with Mathys Tel’s performance in the first half against Atletico Madrid.

The Frenchman looked by far Spurs’ most lively attacker in the first 45 minutes and created Randal Kolo Muani’s opener against Atletico Madrid.

👀 TRUE or FALSE: Mathys Tel can become a key player for Tottenham!

The 20-year-old has not had it easy since making the permanent switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but this was one of his best performances to date.

Igor Tudor will be encouraged by his team’s display in the first half and will be particularly pleased with how Tel played against the Spanish outfit.

Tottenham fans praise Mathys Tel’s performance vs Atletico Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur fans believe that Mathys Tel was the team’s best performer in the first half against Atletico Madrid.

The North London club have made a great start to the tie in N5 as they lead through a Kolo Muani header, which was assisted by Tel.

The young Frenchman was heavily involved in the first half, with 37 touches, eight dribbles attempted and 15 carries.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs fans have now taken to social media to hail the youngster following his best performance so far in Lilywhite colours.

One fan said: “Mathys Tel is having a good game. Taking on his man at every opportunity, a few half-decent efforts, full of enthusiasm. Been a rare bright spark in recent weeks.”

“Unbelievable delivery by Mathys Tel. Been Tottenham’s best player tonight and one of their best in recent weeks. Really starting to grow,” added another.

A third fan stated: “Superb assist from Mathys Tel. He’s been fantastic so far and is revving up the crowd.”

There was yet more praise for the winger: “Mathys Tel is looking great tonight – so much energy! He and Xavi Simons are linking up nicely.”

Finally, another added: “Mathys Tel is so good… Get him with a proper attacking coach, and he’ll cook!”

Tel had a great chance to score Spurs’ second; however, his effort was saved by Juan Musso, and perhaps he could have squared it.

But the signs have been very encouraging from the French youth international and he could be a key player in the second 45 minutes.

Fabrizio Romano explains how Tottenham feel about appointing Roberto De Zerbi

Fabrizio Romano explains how Tottenham feel about appointing Roberto De Zerbi - The Spurs News
Description

Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on the possibility of Roberto De Zerbi becoming the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur.

Igor Tudor bought himself some time with a deserved 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, and this week could be huge for the Croatian head coach.

Fill in the blank: Roberto De Zerbi would be a ____________ appointment for Tottenham…

Would De Zerbi be a good replacement for Thomas Frank?

Tottenham face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, trailing 5-2 from the first leg, before taking on Nottingham Forest in a relegation six-pointer on home soil.

There is a lot of noise regarding the future of Tudor, however, and now De Zerbi has been linked to Tottenham in recent weeks.

Fabrizio Romano says De Zerbi is dream Tottenham appointment

De Zerbi is currently unemployed after his time at Marseille came to a close, and it’s his work with Brighton that will make Tottenham keen to appoint him.

It would appear that Tottenham see the Italian as a dream appointment, although it’s very unlikely he will make any decision until the summer.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “If there is a dream candidate for Tottenham now, it’s Roberto De Zerbi. Former Brighton and Marseille manager is seen as an ideal candidate for the Tottenham job.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Tottenham would love to hire Roberto De Zerbi, but at the moment again, obviously, these depend on several things, and it’s not something easy.”

De Zerbi could be masterful appointment by Tottenham

One thing that De Zerbi could bring to Tottenham is an ability to value and galvanise the fan base, whilst also playing the style of front-foot football they crave.

De Zerbi makes players feel ten feet tall, and given that confidence has been such a big issue this season, it’s no surprise that the board want to appoint De Zerbi.

Tottenham have to stay in the Premier League first, and with Tudor desperate to claim a huge victory in the coming weeks, it’s no good looking too far ahead just yet.

Tudor certainly won’t be the man for the long-term, however, and fans will feel safe in the knowledge that a decision will be made over a new manager in the summer when hopefully, survival has been secured.

I watched Xavi Simons prove Igor Tudor's Tottenham decision spot on vs Liverpool, it's so worrying - The Spurs News
Description

Igor Tudor raised eyebrows as he once again left Xavi Simons on the bench for Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool, and when he came on, he looked lost.

Simons has now started on the bench in the last three matches for Spurs, and it is clear that Igor Tudor is not a fan of the Dutch attacker.

What grade do you give Xavi Simons’ time at Tottenham so far? 🤔

Mathys Tel was fancied ahead of him on the left wing, which is a damning indictment of how poor a signing the 22-year-old has been so far.

Thomas Frank or Tudor have failed to get the best out of him, but his performances have hardly given Spurs fans much hope to cling to.

Xavi Simons deserves to be on the bench for Tottenham

Quite frankly, Xavi Simons deserves to be on the bench for Tottenham Hotspur right now following his display at Anfield.

Since his £51 million move from RB Leipzig, the youngster has managed just two goals and five assists in 36 appearances for the Lilywhites.

He has proven to be a hugely disappointing signing so far, which has meant that Spurs have been without a proper creator all season, especially with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In the 34 minutes he played off the bench at Anfield, he managed 33 touches, lost possession eight times, and completed just 18 passes.

The winger had a chance to win the game near the end, but like most of his decision-making, he picked the wrong option by shooting and dragged his effort wide.

Who starts in the number ten when both fully fit: James Maddison or Xavi Simons? 👀

Granted, Tudor’s system doesn’t really suit Simons, as he was shoehorned into a flat 4-4-2 and was stuck out wide on the left.

Spurs have needed so much more this season from their marquee summer signing, but he has failed to deliver.

Where Xavi Simons ranks among Tottenham’s 2025/26 signings

On reflection, Tottenham’s summer transfer business this season has been such a massive let-down for the North London club.

At £51 million, Simons has to be ranked as the worst, given the poor value for money so far, with Conor Gallagher and Mathys Tel just behind him.

Tel’s work rate and commitment has been commendable, but it remains a strange decision as to why Spurs paid £30 million to make his deal permanent.

Meanwhile, Tottenham making Gallagher their best-paid player in January smacks of despartion and his impact has been shocking.

Kevin Danso, for £25 million, was probably the best piece of business Spurs did, which just proves how low the bar is.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur players have been congratulating Callum Olusesi on making his Premier League debut, including James Maddison.

Olusesi came off the bench in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday and managed 14 minutes on his first Premier League appearance.

🤔 AGREE or DISAGREE: Tottenham must use Callum Olusesi more after his Premier League debut vs Liverpool!

The 19-year-old has been in and around the Spurs squad for quite some time now and was finally given his chance against Liverpool.

The midfielder is clearly a very popular figure at Spurs, with many players applauding his performance in the draw at Anfield.

James Maddison says Callum Olusesi deserved his Premier League debut

James Maddison has led the tributes for Callum Olusesi following his Premier League debut for Tottenham Hotspur.

Igor Tudor was forced into using the club’s academy at Anfield, with the Spurs squad being reduced to the bare bones.

The North London club named just seven substitutes, including two goalkeepers and three academy players.

MORE SPURS STORIES

However, Tudor’s trust in the youth paid off, with Olusesi impressing against Liverpool, and Spurs players have been hailing the teenager.

Maddison, Pedro Porro, Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie, Mathys Tel, and Xavi Simons were among the players who congratulated him on Instagram.

In the comments section, Maddison wrote: “Deserved, mate”. Meanwhile, fellow academy graduate Jun’ai Byfield said: “My brother, well deserved!”

There was also praise from Danso, who wrote: “Many more to come!” and Mikey Moore, who had played with Olusesi for many years, said: “My brother!”

Callum Olusesi desreves more minutes for Tottenham

Olusesi produced a very good performance against Liverpool, proving that he is more than capable of playing at that level.

The 19-year-old now deserves the chance to play more minutes in the remainder of the season, as Spurs battle for survival.

Meanwhile, the teenager claimed that everyone at the North London club must stick together right now to get out of the relegation battle.

“It’s a dream come true, there’s been a couple of games where I’ve been on the bench, loads actually, but to get on the pitch – it’s a great feeling,” Olusesi told SpursOfficial.

“Yeah, it’s good we need all the points we can get right now. Obviously, we’re not in the best situation, but if we all work hard and stick together, we’ll be able to get out of it.”

Tottenham hit an all-time low as Sean Dyche managerial decision made - The Spurs News
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have just hit a new low after being rejected by Sean Dyche to replace interim manager Igor Tudor.

Despite losing all four of his games since being appointed, Tudor remains at the helm in north London for Sunday’s game against Liverpool.

Tottenham confirmed Tudor will take his press conference on Friday to speak ahead of the game at Anfield.

👀 How many points will Tottenham take from their next four Premier League matches?

However, work is seemingly being done behind the scenes to find a potential replacement, with Dyche ruling himself out of the running.

Sean Dyche refuses Tottenham opportunity as Igor Tudor’s replacement

After losing against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, Tudor refused to comment on his Spurs future, which seems to be hanging in the balance.

According to Pete O’Rourke, Dyche is not keen on taking over from Tudor in north London.

Fill in the blank: If Sean Dyche was appointed Tottenham manager, I would feel ________

MORE SPURS STORIES

To be rejected by Dyche only highlights the absolute mess that the club find themselves in as they stare relegation in the face.

Putting things into perspective, Tottenham now have just nine games to salvage their Premier League status.

Less than 12 months ago Spurs were lifting the Europa League trophy, but Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange failed to capitalise on the momentum and have driven the club almost into the ground.

Spurs now find themselves in a position where they have been rejected by a manager who relegation rivals Nottingham Forest felt would not save them from the drop.

Tottenham hit an all-time low after Dyche rejection

Harry Redknapp has admitted he’d accept the Spurs job if he was offered it, but Dyche’s rejection speaks volumes as to where the club is at.

With such little time remaining in the season, Spurs are now in a position where their only managerial options could be people who hold a connection to the club.

Dyche does not want to put his name to this Spurs side, who remain without a single Premier League victory in 2026.

The 54-year-old’s record at Forest was far from impressive and pushed Evangelos Marinakis into a decision as the Tricky Trees sunk closer to the drop zone.

Despite Dyche’s shortcomings in the Premier League recently, Spurs are not even able to attract a manager of his profile to save them.

He may fall into the category of ‘break glass in case of emergency’, but Dyche does not want to tackle the current dumpster fire in north London.

Description

Harry Redknapp believes that Tottenham Hotspur should be looking to appoint either Glenn Hoddle or Tim Sherwood.

Igor Tudor is under pressure at Tottenham following a shocking start as interim manager, losing all four of his games in charge.

YES or NO: Would you take Tim Sherwood back at Tottenham until the end of the season?

The North London club are already looking at alternatives to replace the Croatian manager, with several club legends being touted.

Now, Redknapp has been speaking about who he thinks should replace Tudor, naming Hoddle and Sherwood as his choices.

Harry Redknapp tells Tottenham to appoint Tim Sherwood or Glenn Hoddle

Harry Redknapp believes that Tim Sherwood or Glenn Hoddle would both be ‘good for Tottenham‘ and would help save them from relegation.

The Lilywhites find themselves in a precarious position in the Premier League table right now, sitting just one point above the bottom three.

The former Spurs boss claims Spurs need to appoint someone who knows the club, with Sherwood the most likely man.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking about the situation, Redknapp told TalkSPORT: “Tim would be a good shout now. Tim would be, you know, I think someone like Tim or Glenn Hoddle, even.”

Would Harry Redknapp have enough in him to save Tottenham? 😬

He's done it before, could he do it again?

Redknapp also admitted that he would take the job at Tottenham if they were to offer it to him before the end of the season.

When asked whether he would take the job, Redknapp admitted: “Yeah, I’d do it for sure. I mean, I don’t see myself getting it, to be truthful.”

Tottenham need to turn to Ryan Mason

Tottenham cannot afford to take any gambles and must turn to Ryan Mason as the manager to salvage the season.

Mason struggled at West Brom; however, the Baggies have gone 13 matches without winning since sacking the ex-Tottenham man.

It’s clear that the 34-year-old is well-liked by the Spurs squad, having been a key part of the coaching staff under Ange Postecoglou.

This squad needs a manager who will come in and get their respect, so appointing someone they know well and like would be a good start.

Tottenham Hotspur players feel that Igor Tudor has been far too assertive, similar to Antonio Conte, since being appointed as the interim manager.

Igor Tudor is already under pressure at Tottenham, with the North London club lining up potential replacements for the Croatian.

Fill in the blank: Tottenham should _____ Igor Tudor after losing 5-2 to Atletico Madrid…

The 47-year-old is known for going into the clubs and quickly transforming their fortunes; however, at Spurs, he’s been unable to do that so far.

Four defeats in his first four matches means his role as interim is already in question, and the players are unhappy with his approach.

Tottenham players think Igor Tudor has been overassertive

Tottenham Hotspur players feel that Igor Tudor has been overassertive since being named interim manager, according to Alasdair Gold.

The former Juventus boss has gone into Spurs and attempted to be very disciplined with the players, but that approach does not seem to have gone down well.

Tudor’s decision to ignore Antonin Kinsky after subbing him off against Atletico Madrid inside the first 20 minutes looks to be just the tip of the iceberg.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Speaking about the situation, Gold told Talking Tottenham: “I’m hearing bits and pieces from within the dressing room.

“He’s gone in, and this is probably what he does at all his clubs: Igor Tudor goes in, tries to be disciplined and tough, gets in there and shakes things up.

“The problem is, I think it’s just backfired in this kind of instance. I think he’s, from what I understand, some of the players feel he’s been slightly overassertive.

👀 How many points will Tottenham take from their next four Premier League matches?

Antonio Conte tried a similar approach at Tottenham, and whilst it worked initially, long-term the Italian eventually lost the players.

“Maybe he’s come across as a little bit disrespectful to some of the players, some of the borderline mocking to other ones. Look, Antonio Conte, I think, came in and did very similar,” added Gold.

Wayne Rooney has warned Robbie Keane that he should not join Tottenham Hotspur now, as he thinks they are going to be relegated.

Keane is linked with the Tottenham job, having done a fantastic job with Ferencvarosi this season, who are in the Europa League Round of 16.

Use ONE WORD to describe how you would feel if Robbie Keane was named Tottenham’s interim manager…

Would you take Robbie Keane at Spurs? 🤔

Igor Tudor is under big pressure at Tottenham, with the North London club already searching for possible replacements for the Croatian.

The Irish manager is one of the leading contenders to take the job; however, Rooney has told him why he should not take it just yet.

Wayne Rooney warns Robbie Keane about Tottenham job

Wayne Rooney has said there is ‘no way’ a manager like Robbie Keane should join Tottenham Hotspur right now.

The former Premier League striker is backing the Lilywhites to be relegated this season, and therefore joining them now could damage his reputation.

Ian Wright suggested on The Overlap that Keane would be his pick: “You know something, I think Tottenham, what are they waiting for now? You know what I’d do? I’d bring in Robbie Keane.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Rooney believes that Tim Sherwood would be better suited to the job at the moment, rather than Keane, who is currently in a job.

“I think they’ll go down. That’s why I was saying, if I were Robbie Keane now, I wouldn’t go in. If I were Robbie Keane, I wouldn’t leave a job to go to Tottenham now,” Rooney added.

“If you’re Sherwood or whoever is out of a job, I’d go in. But if I were Robbie Keane, there’s no way I’d leave a job to go to Tottenham.”

Keane was unlikely to join Tottenham before the interim appointment of Tudor, and with the North London club teetering on the brink of relegation.

Harry Redknapp has been linked with the Tottenham job, and Ryan Mason is surely set to become a candidate at some stage.

Thibaut Courtois has revealed that he messaged Antonin Kinsky after Tottenham’s defeat to Atletico Madrid, consoling him and also raising his own concerns about the pitch at the Metropolitano.

Kinsky was subbed off after just 17 minutes against Atletico after the 22-year-old made two key blunders during Spurs’ defeat.

RIGHT or WRONG: Was Igor Tudor right to sub off Antonin Kinsky after just 17 minutes?

Igor Tudor’s team were humiliated 5-2 in the Spanish capital and now face a huge task to turn the tie on its head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Several goalkeepers have jumped to his defence, and Courtois is the latest to back the Spurs shot-stopper following a very tough evening.

Thibaut Courtois consoles Antonin Kinsky after Tottenham treatment

Thibaut Courtois has jumped to the defence of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky following his disappointing Champions League debut.

Spurs’ players were having real issues with the pitch at the Metropolitano, and the Real Madrid goalkeeper said they are not the first team.

Atletico Madrid’s Koke has complained about the pitch; meanwhile, Barcelona also had issues there during their 4-0 defeat in the Copa del Rey semi-final.

Kinsky twice had issues with his footing, which gifted the hosts two goals and meant the tie was almost over after just 17 minutes.

Speaking after Madrid’s win over Man City, Courtois told the media via Fabrizio Romano: “I sent an Instagram DM to Tottenham’s goalkeeper Kinsky.

“Because what happened to him was tough, it’s hard mentally. Atletico’s pitch causes problems for every team.”

Peter Schmeichel has also jumped to Kinsky’s defence and admitted that he was not happy with Tudor’s treatment of the young goalkeeper.

Speaking to CBS Sports, Schmeichel said: “I mean, it was a terrible performance. But when this happened, you know, when you look at the clock there, 14:55, what is Igor Tudor doing?

“Then he substitutes him. That’s going to have ramifications for the rest of his career.”

Cristian Romero told Tudor to take off Kinsky to protect him; however, Tudor failed to acknowledge the goalkeeper as he headed down the tunnel.

Tuesday evening was a total capitulation from the north Londoners and Diego Simeone had no sympathy for Spurs.

There was a feeling that something had to give with Spurs; there is no way a club of this size could really be relegated to the Championship.

However, Tudor has shown nothing to suggest he is capable of saving this sinking ship.

Tottenham have three more fixtures to play before the international break. The break could allow the Spurs board an opportunity to reassess their position ahead of the trip to Sunderland in April.

Djed Spence demonstrated his frustrations with Tudor during the game in Madrid on Tuesday evening.
