Tottenham's away trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League is set to be rescheduled after Ange Postecoglou's men progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Spurs overcame a 1-0 deficit in north London to beat Dutch side AZ Alkmaar 3-2 on aggregate, pushing them into a quarter-final matchup against Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

A brace from summer signing Wilson Odobert and a stunning counter-attack goal from James Maddison is what kept Spurs in the tournament. Lucas Bergvall almost brought Alkmaar back into the game following a mistake, leaving Peer Koppmeiners with a free ball in the box, but Tottenham pushed through.

The first-leg of the quarter-final will be played on Thursday, April 10, meaning Tottenham's 3pm Saturday kick-off two days later against Wolves will have to be pushed back. It will likely be moved to Sunday, April 13 with a kick-off time to be confirmed.

Spurs' history with Wolves is not a positive one. The last time the two Premier League sides met was in December. Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen scored an 87th minute equaliser to end the game 2-2.

Tottenham haven't beaten the Midlands outfit since 2022 when Harry Kane scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory. Since then, aside from this season's draw, Wolves have beaten Spurs in every game since 2022.

The second-leg of the quarter-finals will also be played on a Thursday, but Tottenham's following Premier League game isn't until Monday night when they will face Champions League qualification contenders Nottingham Forest.

Postecoglou will be happy his squad get a three day break after their trip to Germany, especially when the team waiting for their return is Forest. Nuno Espírito Santo's squad have taken everyone by surprise this season and are currently experiencing one of best seasons in decades.

Ange Postecoglou spoke to the media after Tottenham Hotspur won 3-1 against AZ in the Europa League round of 16 second leg on Thursday night and we've got every word the Spurs head coach said.

Wilson Odobert scored the opening goal on 26 minutes. Fast pressing from Tottenham captain Son Heung-min forced an Alkmaar pass to be deflected off him into the path of Dominic Solanke and the striker showed a calm head to tee up Odobert to smash his first goal for the club past the goalkeeper.

James Maddison put Spurs ahead in the tie just three minutes into the second half. A big Pedro Porro tackle set Odobert on the break and the move culminated in Son finding Maddison and the midfielder stepped inside and curled a shot into the net.

Alkmaar levelled matter again after the hour mark. It came from a mess at the back as Odobert intercepted a loose ball but Lucas Bergvall's pass back hit the Frenchman's ankle and the ball fell for Peer Koopmeiners to run on and score.

However, Odobert scored again on 74 minutes after a fine goal from back to front for Spurs. The ball was passed around the defence and Maddison turned superbly in the midfield to break the lines and then set away Son, who played in Djed Spence. The full-back's low ball was flicked on by Solanke and Odobert knocked it in to win the game and put Tottenham into the quarter-finals.

Our Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold was among those putting the questions to Postecoglou after the game. Here's a full transcript from the press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

You must be delighted with the way your team approached that game tonight?

Yeah, really liked the way the boys addressed the challenge tonight. It's not easy when you're 1-0 down before the game starts. You know you don't want to give the opposition any opportunity to get a further advantage. I thought we started the game really well. Really composed and controlled. We didn't create a lot but at the same time we just had them camped in their half and they didn't really venture anywhere near our goal. Scored a really good goal from our press. And second half started brilliantly, exactly what we wanted to do, got our goal, and then we gave them a goal. That puts the tie again on edge a little bit. But I thought our response to that was really good, scored another good goal, probably should have got another one or two to finish the game off.

We probably didn't handle the last 10 minutes very well. But at the same time when I'm having to change the backline so much, at such a critical time, it's going to disrupt us. Again I thought at the big moments, the boys stood up well. Really pleased, they did a fantastic job to get us through.

The older players were leading the way, but you also had young players Wilson and Lucas having big nights?

Yeah, massive, brilliant for us, brilliant for the club, like I keep saying, we've got some really exciting talent. Lucas is growing all the time. People are getting a glimpse of what Wilson's all about. Shame what's happened to him this year, and he's still working his way from fitness. I just thought the whole group handled it really well. It was great to have Romero and Mickey, we just looked so solid at the back. While they were out there, we never really looked like getting threatened. Just made us look more solid as a team. So a lot of positives there.

Son just didn't stop running did he?

Sonny gives you everything every game, there's no doubt about that. He works so hard for the team. Had a couple of moments today, a couple of times unlucky, a couple of times could have been on the end of things. But it was a collective effort tonight. I think it's the first time - somebody said - since October we've had our four leaders on the park: Vicario, Romero, Maddison and Sonny. So much this year we've relied on one or two of those. But to have all four of them out there makes a difference for us. I thought they all led the team well.

Do you feel the team looked more like themselves?

Yeah, well it's no coincidence. We're getting some of our key players back and of course we are [looking like ourselves]. We've got guys who are getting decent recovery between games and we can change the team a fair bit. Don't forget Sonny and Madders didn't start at the weekend.

We can do these things that allow us to prepare the team properly. We did look more like ourselves but we've still got levels to go, because I still think players like Romero, Micky and Wilson and Dom and all these guys are still building their way up to match fitness and match sharpness. With the quarter-final being three-and-a-half weeks away, there's an opportunity for us to get these guys up to speed for that game.

Are you positive and encouraged because of that about what can happen for the rest of the season?

I've always been positive and I've always been encouraged. My mood is not dictated by outside, it's dictated by internal things and I've never wavered from the fact, and I think I've said consistently, that we're at our best we can compete with anyone. We get an opportunity now to build up some players and hopefully, we've still got some significant talent out and they could be coming back. All of that will be helpful for us reaching the levels that we need.

What did you make of James Maddison tonight?

Yeah, I thought all night he was really good. I think all those four leaders felt like it's their time now. It's been really tough for them, it's been really tough for all of us, the whole club but particularly the players. I thought that Madders, when we needed the quality, he was there tonight and made all the good decisions for us. Worked hard for the team, which was so important.

I think from my perspective it now allows us to have this solid core of players, our best players, that are available, getting to fitness, but we also have this ability to put people on who can also impact games which was important today.

Wilson got his first goals, how important do you think that will be for him and what made you put him in the team in the first place?

Super pleased for him because he's worked awfully hard. I'd be surprised if I have to explain why I selected him, if you didn't see that today... I was excited when we signed him. He's one of these players who has the ability to take players on, find space, great technician and super pleased for him to get his goals. He's worked hard silently and to get back in the team.

Obviously he came to a new club, a big club and big move for him and it didn't work out for him through no fault of his own, through the injury and it's been frustrating for me not to be able to showcase him and know how much he can develop and that's just the starting point for him. He's still working his way to full fitness. When you look at the likes of him and Lucas and Archie and two or three others we've got, there's some enormously exciting talent there.

That third goal felt like a classic Postecoglou goal, which we've not seen for a while, so that must please you?

I think it’s important because again look, all goals are important and particularly in a game like that but when you score something, a goal you know is so much of the core of our attacking phases and we work so hard on, I think the players get belief out of that, that it does work. Having Dom in there gives you a real focal point and just having his presence in the box, the ability to have guys like Madders and Sonny fresh today to be able to run at the opposition, they are just things we haven’t had the luxury of in the last three-and-a-half months. As I said, I think it was a really good foundational game for us to build on because I still feel like we will improve because of the nature of where people are at. I couldn’t be happier with the players. They deserve to get through and now we’re into the quarter-finals of a European competition which I think is exciting.

You've had pressure games this season but there felt like a lot of pressure on this – is it an important step for the team to come through especially with what is ahead?

Yeah I think the way we handled it tonight was important. As much as you try to block out the outside noise and it doesn’t bother me but I am sure the players and the whole club was aware tonight was a big night for us. When you are already 1-0 down you can get really anxious about it but I never felt that. Up until we sort of gave them the first goal, I thought the lads had handled it superbly.

They were in control, they looked strong, they looked dominant, aggressive and looked threatening in the front third. All the things we want to be. I think Micky coming off disrupted us a little bit, we had to change a couple of things and we give them a goal that changed the momentum of the game to make it more nervy than it needed to be, but yeah on what was a big night, I couldn’t be happier with the way the players tackled it and it’s a credit to them.

Tottenham already know next Europa League opponents after AZ victory

Tottenham will play Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League quarter-finals following Ange Postecoglou's crucial second-leg 3-1 victory over AZ Alkmaar.

Spurs headed into north London 1-0 down following their lacklustre defeat in the Netherlands, but they turned it around in front of their home crowd. A brace from Wilson Odobert and a James Maddison counter attack goal gave Tottenham all they needed to progress to the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, Frankfurt advanced the quarter-finals with ease. After finishing fifth in the league phase, one position below Spurs, they matched with Ajax who had to win a playoff fixture before their round of 16 bout with the Bundesliga side. The German club won both legs with an aggregate score of 6-2.

Frankfurt, managed by Dino Toppmoller, won the Europa League in 2021/22 where they beat Rangers on penalties. In the Bundesliga, 'The Eagles' currently sit in a Champions League spot but are a hefty 19 points off Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

The two sides met less than three years ago in the Champions League group stages following Frankfurt's automatic qualification to the tournament following their Europa League trophy victory. Tottenham won in their first meeting in north London 3-2 and the reverse fixture in Germany finished 0-0.

Spurs have only lost once to Frankfurt, and you have to go back to 1982 for that game during the UEFA European Cup Winners Cup.

Wilson Odobert nets dream Ange Postecoglou Tottenham goal and that Micky van de Ven substitution

Tottenham have set up a Europa League quarter-final showdown against Eintracht Frankfurt after defeating AZ Alkmaar 3-1 on Thursday evening. Following last Sunday's 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, Ange Postecoglou made a total of four changes to his team as Micky van de Ven, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison and Son Heung-min came in.

Unable to create any real chances in the opening exchanges, Spurs took the lead through Odobert on 26 minutes as he netted his first goal for the club. It all came from some expert pressing from Son to gain possession off Wouter Goes, with Dominic Solanke then putting the ball on a plate for his teammate to sweep home and level things up on aggregate.

Tottenham were then to take the lead in the tie shortly after half-time as Maddison netted his 11th goal of the season after some more excellent play from Odobert and Son to create the chance. In the driving seat to go through, Spurs were pegged back on aggregate after Peer Koopmeiners pulled one back for the visitors with an arrowed drive following a mix-up in defence.

Despite the setback, Spurs managed to restore their two-goal cushion on the night with a stunning team goal on 76 minutes as Odobert turned the ball home at the back post after they had played their way upfield from their own area. The winger's strike proved to be the decisive goal in the tie as the Lilywhites progressed with a 3-2 win on aggregate.

Here are five things we spotted in the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

Senior stars step up

After having to deal with a host of injuries over the course of the season, Tottenham's starting XI is now nearing full strength heading into the business end of the season. After getting some vital minutes in the tank against Bournemouth last weekend, both Cristian Romero and Van de Ven were named in the side after last playing together in the Chelsea defeat in early December.

Maddison and Son also came back in after dropping down to the bench last weekend. That meant Postecoglou could start with his leadership group of Guglielmo Vicario, Romero, Maddison and Son in his Tottenham XI for the first time since October's 4-1 home win over West Ham.

The four players did all feature in the defeat to Ipswich Town the following month but they were only on the pitch at the same time for the closing minutes after Maddison's late introduction. At a time when Spurs have needed their senior stars to help guide them through an extremely tough period, Postecoglou has unfortunately been unable to call upon them at the exact same time over the past five months.

Thankfully he could do for a such a crucial match, with the four players all stepping up to the plate with huge performances to help Tottenham advance. Maddison and Son were standout players for Tottenham on the night, with Romero and Vicario more than playing their part at the back.

It was an evening that highlighted the quartet's importance to making Postecoglou's team really tick.

Spence and Odobert's position in Postecoglou's thinking

Two of the big decisions facing Postecoglou ahead of the game involved who would get the nod at full-back and who would operate from right-wing. Djed Spence won his race with Destiny Udogie to start at left-back and Odobert was selected in Spurs' front three.

For Spence, this was only his second European start for Tottenham following his omission from the playing squad for the league phase. The ex-Nottingham Forest loanee has flourished since coming into the team and his starting berth against AZ very much highlights his position in Postecoglou's thinking and that he may now just have the edge of Udogie for his role in the team.

In terms of Odobert, Spurs fans are starting to see a lot more of the 20-year-old after such an injury-hit start to his Tottenham career. The Frenchman has now started three of his last four appearances for the Lilywhites, with the summer addition picked over Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson on this occasion.

Like Spence, it just shows how highly Postecoglou rates him as he was selected for such a crucial match when the head coach had other strong options available to him. Odobert paid back the Australian's faith in him with the opening goal as he swept the ball high into the next after some excellent work from Son and Solanke.

He would then add the vital third goal in the final 15 minutes after capping off an eye-catching move forward involving all but two Spurs players. It was undoubtedly his biggest moment in a Tottenham shirt so far and it may well be a sign of things to come for the youngster with a permanent spot in the XI as they look for the perfect attacking formula.

Romero vs Parrott

Romero certainly made his presence known inside the first 20 minutes of Thursday's Europa League tie. Known for his big tackles, he produced one on the halfway line on David Moller Wolfe to come away with the ball.

It was timed to perfection and it resulted in a huge cheer from the Tottenham faithful as he then proceeded to move forward with it. Romero was involved in another moment not long after with his former Spurs teammate Troy Parrott.

Spence had nipped in to win the ball on the halfway line from the Republic of Ireland striker, who in turn went to ground. Romero wasn't having any of it and he immediately turned to Parrott when Spence was attacking with the ball and he screamed in the face of his opponent.

The World Cup winner is a very feisty character indeed and he is not afraid to get in the face of his opponents, even if they are former teammates of his.

That Van de Ven sub

Van de Ven would only be on the pitch for a total of 60 minutes as Archie Gray came on in his place. There certainly didn't appear to be an injury issue with the Dutchman and it very much looked to be Postecoglou managing the defender's minutes.

Given his stop-start season to date, the last thing Spurs want to do is push him too much and see him spend more time in the treatment room at the business end of the season. After getting 30 minutes last weekend against Bournemouth, the next step for Van de Ven was to play for an hour as they look to build his levels up.

Prior to making way, the 23-year-old showed everyone why he is rated so highly with some sublime defending to deny the speedy Ernest Poku just as the AZ attacker looked set to test Vicario. Three minutes after his exit and it was all level on aggregate as Koopmeiners took full advantage of some poor play to set up a tense finale. Thankfully Odobert stepped up to see Tottenham advance.

Postecoglou football at his best

Tottenham are going to find it extremely hard to score a better goal than Odobert's second against AZ on Thursday evening. In a rather precarious position with AZ levelling things up on aggregate, Spurs worked their way upfield from their own box and Odobert put the finishing touch to the classy move from close range.

Starting off with Romero playing the ball back to Vicario after receiving it off Porro, the goalkeeper then spread the ball to Gray, who in turn found Spence on the sideline, with Maddison expertly allowing the ball to run across him to lose his marker and advance forward. Linking up with Spence again before the full-back found Son down the flank, the Spurs captain ran towards the edge of the area before playing a reverse ball to the overlapping left-back.

Spence's ball across the box was then flicked on by Solanke, with Odobert there at the back post to tap the ball into the far corner of the net and spark wild scenes inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The goal was that good and Spurs fans will no doubt be watching it time and time again over the next 24 hours or so!

It was Postecoglou football at his very best and a goal good enough to win any game of football.

Tottenham Hotspur beat AZ 3-1 in the Europa League round of 16 second leg on Thursday night to reach the quarter-finals and here are our player ratings.

With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both starting after coming through their returns on Sunday, for the first time since October last year, Postecoglou started the four members of Tottenham's leadership group - Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Romero and Guglielmo Vicario.

Wilson Odobert scored on 26 minutes. Great pressing from Son forced a pass to be deflected off him into the path of Dominic Solanke, who showed great calmness to tee up the young Frenchman to fire his first goal for the club past the goalkeeper

James Maddison put Spurs ahead in the tie three minutes into the second half. A great tackle by Pedro Porro sent Odobert away and the move culminated in Son finding Maddison and the midfielder curled a shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Alkmaar scored though after the hour mark. It came from a mess at the back as Odobert intercepted a loose ball but Lucas Bergvall's pass back hit the Frenchman and fell for Peer Koopmeiners to run on and score.

Odobert fired home again on 74 minutes after a lovely goal from back to front for Spurs. The ball was passed around the back and Maddison turned superbly in the midfield and then set away Son, who played in Djed Spence. His low ball was flicked on by Solanke and Odobert knocked it in.

AZ tried to find a late leveller but could not find a way through and here are our Tottenham player ratings from the match:

Guglielmo Vicario

Didn't have much to do in the first half and then after the break almost made a complete mess of a drag back under pressure but got away with it. Couldn't get to Koopmeiners' clinical shot but saved from Parrott with 10 minutes to go. Claimed a couple of important corners. 7

Pedro Porro

A bit loose with his passing in the first half but started the move for Spurs' second goal with a crucial challenge. Battled away late on to help Spurs keep their lead. 7

Cristian Romero

Managed a big early tackle but did fluff a pass to Buurmeester who thankfully for him fired wide. A much-needed 90 minutes from the Argentine and he will continue to get sharper. 7

Micky van de Ven

Got exactly an hour under his belt and dealt with most of what came his way, even if he didn't look at full throttle. AZ scored soon after he came off. 7

Djed Spence

A busy presence down the left and he got the ball across that Solanke knocked on to Odobert to score his second. 7

Pape Matar Sarr

Used that great engine to get up and down the pitch and keep Spurs moving on a night when they need to show energy. 7

Lucas Bergvall

Took on the number six role with real discipline. Unfortunate to play a part in AZ's goal midway through the second half because otherwise he was superb, winning balls and so good in possession. Came off with five minutes to go suffering from cramp and got a standing ovation as he walked around the outside of the pitch. Would have had a nine but for that mistake. 8

James Maddison

Curled a fine finish home for Spurs' second goal and was instrumental in Spurs' third goal with his turn and drive through the midfield. One of his best performances of the season. 9

Wilson Odobert

Fired home his first goal for the club 26 minutes in with a composed finish and played his part in the move for the second goal. Then bagged his second from Solanke's flick before coming off. 9

Dominic Solanke

Teed up Odobert's goal calmly and then provided a second assist for the young Frenchman. Worked away and had two crucial touches. 8

Son Heung-min

Pressed superbly to win possession for Odobert's first half goal. Involved in all three goals with a captain's performance. 8

Subs

Brennan Johnson

Came on and brought some fresh legs for a while. 6

Yves Bissouma

Made an important block soon after coming on following a Vicario save. 7

Ben Davies

Replaced Bergvall for the final stages of the game. N/A

Ange Postecoglou has named the Tottenham Hotspur team that he believes can overcome 1-0 deficit to progress past AZ in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Alkmaar arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in charge of the round of 16 tie after dominating the first leg while Postecoglou's side were well below par and ultimately fortunate to return home with just the single goal hitting the back of their net. For this game, Spurs are without Kevin Danso, who joins the injury list, but Ben Davies is back in training and Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both start after coming through their returns on Sunday.

For the first time since October last year, Postecoglou has been to start the four members of Tottenham's leadership group - Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Romero and Guglielmo Vicario.

Rodrigo Bentancur is unavailable for the second leg through suspension, so the midfield trio contains Lucas Bergvall, Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr. Son is up front again alongside Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert.

Here's the Tottenham team that Postecoglou has selected to face AZ on Thursday night:

Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Sarr, Bergvall, Maddison; Odobert, Solanke, Son. Subs: Austin, Whiteman, Udogie, Davies, Gray, Bissouma, Johnson, Tel, Moore, Scarlett.

Tottenham drop early team news hints as five clues emerge before AZ Alkmaar

Tottenham Hotspur have hinted James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Son Heung-Min will all play a part in their Europa League last-16 second leg against AZ Alkmaar.

All three started in Alkmaar last week before being named substitutes on Sunday for the Premier League match with Brentford. Bergvall and Son came on at half-time, with Maddison joining them on the hour mark.

The former assisted Pape Matar Sarr's goal to halve the deficit before Son won and scored a penalty to equalise late on to salvage a draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, only a win is enough this Thursday night, with Spurs needing at least a one-goal lead to force extra-time after losing in the Netherlands.

Hours before kick-off, the club's social media accounts shared a graphic - featuring Bergvall, Guglielmo Vicario, Maddison and Son. The goalkeeper has played every minute since returning in mid-February and seems sure to start again, leaving birthday boy Antonin Kinsky on the bench.

Should the other three start, Ange Postecoglou's team would look much like the one that started in Alkmaar. Mathys Tel was another player who began the first leg, but was on the bench for the Brentford game, and the Bayern Munich loanee has posted an individual matchday graphic on his Instagram story.

However, the winter transfer window loan signing was hooked at half-time last time out against AZ as he was replaced by Wilson Odobert. Tel was an unused substitute over the weekend, despite Bergvall, Destiny Udogie, Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Son featuring from the bench.

Much like his teammate, Maddison too has shared a matchday graphic on his Instagram story. The image is at the end of a video compilation showing the player scoring his only goal in Europe this season, during the penultimate league phase game away against Hoffenheim.
