Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange have been handed a major transfer update, with the club's second summer signing expected to be confirmed soon. The Lilywhites have already announced the return of Timo Werner on another loan spell, but now they look set to unveil their first permanent addition, Archie Gray.

The Leeds United star looked to be on his way to Brentford, only for the structure of their offer to be rejected, with Spurs swooping in. football.london understands that Gray to Tottenham is getting closer with Joe Rodon heading to Elland Road after a successful loan spell last season in a separate deal.

With some cover at full-back and in midfield close to being added, Spurs may likely turn their attention elsewhere, which could see more senior stars move on. Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Ryan Sessegnon and Tanguy Ndombele have all departed, with more likely to follow.

Interest from overseas in a number of players, such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Emerson Royal, already exists, and now it seems Tottenham can finally work towards raising funds through those deals. While the summer transfer window opened in England on June 14, the trading periods in Italy, Germany, Spain and France all remained shut until July 1.

With that date now upon us, exits can start to be sanctioned, with Emerson AC Milan heavily linked to Emerson in a €20million (£17m) move. Hojbjerg, meanwhile, who Spurs value at £25million, still has interest from Atletico Madrid with Napoli, under former manager Antonio Conte, another potential destination.

Giovani Lo Celso and Djed Spence are also expected to be sold this summer, with Genoa keen on bringing the latter back to Italy, though the £8.4million asking price is proving to be a stumbling block. Though Tottenham look set to welcome their second addition of the summer, it is highly unlikely Postecoglou and Lange are done there.

Stade Rennais midfielder Desire Doue has been linked to a Premier League move with Tottenham and Arsenal, the two teams mentioned. Following an excellent breakout season in France, the 19-year-old has seen a €40million (£33.9m) price tag placed on his shoulders.

With Postecoglou aiming to build a young and exciting team, signing the 19-year-old would be a sensational coup. Though the Spurs boss seems to favour signing talent for the future, he is clearly not against bringing in more experienced players if they fit his ethos, with Lille's Jonathan David emerging as a target.

The 24-year-old has been contacted by Chelsea, along with interest from Spurs, and it is likely he will leave France this summer. As his contract expires next summer, a bargain deal could be struck with £20million, potentially as the minimum fee that could be paid.

Ange Postecoglou told what 'different breed' Archie Gray will give Tottenham after transfer move

Tottenham are on the verge of adding to Ange Postecoglou's squad ahead of the 2024/25 season with the signing of Leeds United's Archie Gray. After initially looking set to join Brentford over the weekend before it was announced on Sunday morning that his switch to west London had fallen through, Spurs have nipped in to win the race for the highly-rated midfielder.

football.london understands that Tottenham are now closing in on the signing of the 18-year-old with Joe Rodon heading back to Elland Road in a separate deal. The deal is expected to cost between £25million and £30million plus Rodon returning to Leeds on a permanent basis after such a successful loan spell with the Championship club last term.

Gray will now sign a long-term deal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and provide Postecoglou with options in midfield and at right-back. Having made Leeds United's substitutes' bench as a 15-year-old in the Premier League, it wasn't until the start of last season when he made his senior bow for the club.

Gray went on to flourish in Leeds' promotion push, subsequently making 52 appearances in all competitions. Coming to the attention of a host of top clubs in the process after some standout performances in England's second tier and also the FA Cup, Postecoglou and Tottenham have pulled off quite the transfer coup and it will now be Spurs who benefit from having such a talent in their squad.

So what exactly can Tottenham fans expect from Gray once he officially becomes a Tottenham player? football.london takes a look at what his former managers and Leeds teammates have said about him

Daniel Farke

"All the praise has to go to Archie," the German told Sky Sports. "You can work with a player, back the player and trust the player, but we can only bring him to the door and he has to make that step through it. How he's done that, with the maturity and consistency he has, is outstanding for a 17-year-old.

"He's still unbelievably grounded, humble and has good habits. That is so crucial that you don't get over the moon after just one or two good games or a couple of good months. It is so far, so good. But quality is always defined over the long term, and he has to keep going in order to speak about a really quality season.

"I've worked throughout my career with fantastic young players. I don't like to compare that much, but it is fantastic what he's doing. When you are that young and getting that much praise it is not always easy to handle, but he's so, so grounded and so open to developing and working hard each day. The experience in his family helps a lot, and I have to give many compliments to the Gray family. They are doing fantastically well with him."

Farke on not wanting to swap Gray for anyone

"I know we are not the finished product and make mistakes or get nervous and over-excited, but I am struggling to criticise my players," he said (via Leeds Live ). I would not swap Archie with anyone in this league. He has more potential than any player in this league in this position."

Jesse Marsch

“I consider Archie a first-team player at 16," said the American, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post. "He has cleverness, the flexibility to play in multiple positions, he can run, he sees things quickly, he’s aggressive against the ball and he’s fearless. I think he’s got the full package."

He added: “I think he’s a [Number] six, eight, ten. I had a good talk with [dad] Andy in the summer and he thinks he’s good a little bit deeper. I said, ‘No way man, he’s about final plays and scoring goals!’ but he can do all those things because he’s intelligent.”

Ethan Ampadu

"Honestly, it's pretty easy," the Wales international told the official Leeds United podcast (via Leeds Live) when asked about playing alongside Gray. "Obviously I played alongside him in a couple of ties in pre-season and in training you play with everyone.

"Honestly, in the game it's pretty easy. I don't feel like I have to sit here and big him up to any of you. I think everyone has seen what he can do.

"The good thing is and the scary thing is for the opposition, is that he's so young and he's still got such a long way to go but he's already at such a high level. It's about keeping that and I do really believe that he will.

"I think what he showed is the base and he can kick on again. Obviously it's going to take time he's young, he's got to learn stuff, I've got to learn stuff. Hopefully we can learn stuff together.

"That Cardiff game is a base and hopefully we can both kick on. Honestly, to play alongside him against Cardiff was pretty easy, he's comfortable on the ball and does his defensive stuff off it, he made it easy for me."

Georginio Rutter

“For me, the first time I came here and I saw him, I saw something special," said the attacker. "He’s a very big player. He’s had a good progression and he deserves that because he works every day for that. And he’s a good guy. He knows everything – so I don’t have to say more for him!”

Patrick Bamford

"The good thing is about him, he's so kind of humble," admitted Bamford. "He believes in his ability but I don't think he knows how good he is. He's always like, he's got a younger brother who is in the academy, I think he's only 14, but he's always like 'yeah he's better than me'. He must be unbelievable then."

Glen Kamara

“You've got Ethan [Ampadu] filling in at centre-back, great player," said Kamara, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post. "Obviously Archie, don't have to speak about him! He's just a different breed, only, what 17/18. Ilia [Gruev] as well, really clicking well with him as well in midfield. But all of them three different kind of midfielders have got their own qualities and it works out really well."

Daniel James

“Yeah definitely, obviously I had my first experience of Archie when he was 15 or 16 and I thought what a player," said James. "His movement off the ball reminded me of how [Aaron] Ramsey was off the ball, those runs in behind, he can run all day, he’s strong.

"I’ve come back this year and he’s matured, he’s very child-like, but that helps him because he has no fear, he’s brilliant and it’s nice to play with him and nurture him. He’s been absolutely brilliant and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was Team of the Year in a position that he’s only played this year in his life."

Leeds United miss PSR deadline as Archie Gray to seal Tottenham transfer but there's good reason

Tottenham are about to complete the transfer of Leeds starlet Archie Gray on Monday in a deal that many people expected would have to be sealed by end of Sunday.

Spurs have agreed the switch with Leeds that will see them spend between £25million and £30million on the 18-year-old, with Joe Rodon heading the other way in a separate move which takes the total package up to one approaching £40million for Gray. Tottenham grabbed the opportunity when Gray's advanced move to Brentford collapsed as the Bees could not agree terms on the payment structure for their deal worth up to £40million.

Gray, who will sign a six-year contract, will join up with Ange Postecoglou's squad this month to prepare for the season ahead. He will be Tottenham's third summer arrival so far following the arrival of Lucas Bergvall and return of Timo Werner. Gray played 52 times for Leeds in the previous campaign, turning out in both central midfield and at right-back. He dazzled in the centre of the pitch against Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round tie at Stamford Bridge despite being only 17 at the time.

Rodon, Tottenham's 26-year-old Wales international centre-back, who is currently in Santa Barbara, California, on a training camp ahead of the new season, is believed to have preferred the return to Elland Road ahead of interest from Premier League sides Ipswich and Leicester City after an impressive loan season that he relished in Yorkshire. Ipswich are understood to have had a £10million offer rejected by Tottenham, with Kieran McKenna a big admirer of the centre-back.

Many expected the deal for Gray to need to be done before the end of June 30 in order to help Leeds with their profit and sustainability rules (PSR) issues. However, Leeds Live reporter Beren Cross, who covers United week in, week out, told football.london this week that the Yorkshire club were in no rush to accept just any deal for the teenager.

"Whites chairman Paraag Marathe has already acknowledged sales will be needed in this transfer window to ensure the club complies with profitability and sustainability rules. Recent investment from Red Bull, understood to be the biggest sponsorship deal in EFL history, has markedly helped the situation. Marathe even said that deal could be the difference between selling or keeping a key player this summer," he said.

That investment meant that Leeds could move this deal into next season's sales within PSR with a reported £190million still to be paid in outstanding transfer instalments and the Gray sale will help them towards that, while gaining a popular player in Rodon.

Archie Gray Tottenham transfer could result in new £17m deal as Ange Postecoglou dilemma solved

Tottenham appear on course to start July in the best possible manner by strengthening Ange Postecoglou's playing squad. A very quiet summer transfer window for the football club so far with the additions of Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner confirmed in February and May respectively, Archie Gray is in line to become the latest signing ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Lilywhites are closing in on the signing of the talented midfielder after the player's move to Brentford fell apart at the eleventh hour. LeedsLive reported that the West Yorkshire club were unhappy with the structure of the deal Thomas Frank's side were offering and cancelled the transfer, thus opening up the door for Tottenham to sign Gray under the noses of the west London club.

Rated extremely highly at Elland Road and even making the bench as a 15-year-old in a Premier League clash against Arsenal in December 2021, it wasn't until last August when Gray made his senior bow for Leeds in their Championship opener against Cardiff City. Given an opportunity by new boss Daniel Farke, the Durham-born player took it with both hands and went on to make 52 appearances in all competitions as he won both Leeds United's and the Championship's Young Player of the Season awards.

Leeds' need to bring in money this summer to improve their financial situation following their Championship play-off final defeat against Southampton always meant that a departure for Gray looked likely. Not only will Postecoglou and Tottenham bolster their midfield options with the addition of the teenager if his transfer does go through, the England Under-21 ace will also provide cover at right-back.

Gray did operate in midfield in Leeds' first ten games of the 2023/24 Championship campaign but he reverted to right-back in their 2-1 home win over Bristol City in November. It would be a position he would spent the vast majority of his season in, playing there in 30 of his 52 appearances across the term.

Right-back may not be the position Gray fully establishes himself in later down the line as he is a midfielder by trade but he would give Postecoglou a nice option at full-back. Pedro Porro has thrived playing as a right-back in the Australian's system and looks totally at home coming inside to operate in the central areas as the 58-year-old demands from his full-backs.

That side of the game does not come naturally to Emerson Royal and it is evident when Porro is missing from the team due to what he offers in the position. Tottenham undoubtedly have a couple of areas in their starting XI that need strengthening as a priority in the summer transfer market, with an alternative to Porro certainly high up on their transfer wishlist.

Right-back may not be Gray's natural position but he most certainly can be a Porro alternative due to his experience in the role and also his midfield qualities. As Postecoglou plays with inverted full-backs, that side of the game will suit the Leeds youngster down to the ground as it will allow him to come inside and play from there.

Amid a lot of speculation about Emerson moving on for a new challenge this summer with AC Milan heavily linked with the Brazilian in a €20million (£17m) move, Gray signing on the dotted line in N17 could free up Tottenham's No.12 to move on. As crucial as incomings are at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, outgoings are also vitally important in order to reshape Postecoglou's squad for the challenge ahead.

The signing of Gray may prove to be a very smart piece of business from the football club if indeed the starlet does go on to swap Leeds for the Lilywhites. Tottenham are building for the future and Gray could be the next part of the jigsaw Postecoglou is currently putting together in N17.

Tottenham to seal £30m Archie Gray Leeds transfer as Joe Rodon and Oliver Skipp roles explained

Tottenham are closing in on signing Leeds United starlet Archie Gray with Joe Rodon heading to Elland Road in a separate deal, football.london understands.

Brentford had been set to sign the gifted 18-year-old Leeds star, who played 50 times for the Championship side in central midfield and at right-back last season, with Gray keen to join Thomas Frank's side with the prospect of regular Premier League football on the table. However, the Bees could not agree a payment structure with Leeds and when that move broke down, Tottenham stepped in and began negotiations over a deal that is expected to cost between £25million and £30million plus Rodon heading back to Elland Road.

That transfer move now looks to be heading to its conclusion with the teenager, who will sign a long-term deal, able to play a role for Ange Postecoglou both in rotation with Pedro Porro at right-back and also in the midfield. Gray's fearlessness with the ball and his ability and tactical discipline are expected to ensure he fits in well with the Australian's philosophy and system, while he has a huge ceiling for growth in the years ahead.

football.london understands that Rodon is likely to head in the opposite direction to Leeds in what will be announced as a separate deal but will mean a £40million valuation of Gray in all. The 26-year-old Wales international, who is currently in Santa Barbara, California, on a training camp ahead of the new season, is believed to have preferred the return to Elland Road ahead of interest from Premier League sides Ipswich and Leicester City after an impressive loan season that he relished in Yorkshire.

Ipswich are understood to have had a £10million offer rejected by Tottenham, with Kieran McKenna a big admirer of the centre-back.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke also has plenty of admiration for Spurs midfielder Oliver Skipp following their successful Championship-winning season together at Norwich City. However, football.london understands that the 23-year-old is, at this stage, not expected to be heading to Leeds within these transfer negotiations.

Skipp will have Premier League interest if he were to leave Tottenham this summer but even that would be made more problematic by him being one of the few senior club-trained players at the north London outfit that can be registered for the Europa League next season.

Lucas Bergvall's move to Tottenham became official on Monday following the £8.5m deal agreed with Djurgarden in February, meaning Postecoglou now has two extremely highly-rated 18-year-old talents to work into his midfield and full-back plans.

Tottenham announce lucrative new BetMGM sponsorship deal for training kit

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have announced BetMGM as their new training wear sponsors to take over from Getir in a three-year deal.

Previous reports have placed the new deal as being worth around £10million a season for the north London club, which is £2million more a season than the Getir one was. The Turkish-based delivery firm signed a three-year deal back in 2021, but their troubles have been widely reported in recent months and Tottenham were prepared for the fact that the deal would naturally come to a close at the end of last season.

Sky News reported last month that Turkish-based Getir was left with a debt of close to £5million to the Premier League side.

Shirt sponsorship values have risen in recent years, including training wear ones, which would appear to be reflected in the reported increase in the annual amount that Tottenham will get for this deal for the name Ange Postecoglou's side will wear on their shirts as they train at Hotspur Way.

The club said in a statement: "The brand will become the club’s Official Betting Partner for both the men’s and women’s team, and the Official Front of Training Wear Partner for the men’s team. Through the partnership, BetMGM will feature on media backdrops and the men’s first team training kit during Premier League, domestic cup and European fixtures. Additionally, BetMGM will be highlighted on pitchside LEDs and big screens at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"The club will also be working with BetMGM on providing unique experiences for our fans via giveaways and through partnership events."

Last year Premier League clubs agreed to remove gambling logos from matchday shirts from the 2026/27 season onwards, but they will be allowed to use them on training wear, sleeve sponsorship and advertising around their stadium and training grounds.

Ryan Norys, Chief Revenue Officer, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with BetMGM. The Club and BetMGM’s values align exceptionally well through a competitive spirit, whilst also continuing to strive for greatness.

“BetMGM has demonstrated it is putting its customers first by continuously developing its product offering to fans. Throughout this partnership, we are looking to help BetMGM further establish itself in the UK market, as well as enhancing customers’ knowledge around responsible gambling.”

Sam Behar, UK Director of BetMGM, said: "We are very proud to launch this partnership with Spurs as their progressive spirit fully aligns with BetMGM’s ambitions. This is our third Premier League deal in just a week, and we look forward to kicking off this exciting season as we continue to grow BetMGM’s presence in the world of sports."

BetMGM, which entered the UK market in 2023, also has a number of smaller sponsorship deals with Manchester City, Newcastle United and Wolves, but will become more prominent with their training wear deal with Tottenham. That deal will not contain the company name on the training shirts worn by supporters though.

Spurs' newly-released Nike home and away kits came out this month and within the launches, the statements read: "For the 2024/25 season, all of our kits will be sold without the sleeve partner logo, and our training range will be sold without the training wear partner logo. These are excluded from retail inventory for the coming season."

The new Tottenham star who officially signs for the club today

Description

Lucas Bergvall is officially a Tottenham Hotspur player after his contract with the club began on Monday (July 1) following his £8.5m transfer from Djurgarden.

Spurs signed the talented young Swede on his 18th birthday in February, seeing off competition from Barcelona, with the midfielder playing the first half of the Allsvenskan season for Djurgarden before taking a rest this month in order to be fresh and ready for his new challenge in the Premier League.

With a five-year contract inked, Bergvall will begin pre-season training from this coming weekend at Hotspur Way but is now officially registered as a Tottenham player following his transfer. He signed off from Djurgarden with six goals and five assists from 18 matches in the league and cup this season, which began in April in Sweden.

"I have another pre-season. It's a double pre-season for me!" Bergvall told football.london in a big interview in Stockholm last month. "In Sweden you have three or four months of pre-season from January to April when the league starts. So I'll have another one but I'm not going to complain! I can't complain!

"Tottenham have done a really good job with that and have offered me a few extra days so if I want then I can take that, but I think I have two or three weeks off, so that's good. I'm going on vacation with my family and girlfriend. I'll have my last game against Hammarby and then I go on international duty for maybe 10 days and then I'll start at Tottenham on July 1 so I'll have some rest first.

"It's fine though, I love this. I love football but it's good I suppose to rest mentally and get your energy back. It's going to be a really exciting new season, with a lot of good impressions to make on a lot of new people so I have to be mentally prepared."

In the Stockholm suburbs, Bergvall came through the academy at Brommapojkarna, which also produced Dejan Kulusevski, before joining Djurgarden.

Brommapojkarna's head of youth and recruiting Tommy Soderstrom knows a thing or two about finding talent, having worked for years as a scout for Manchester United after being asked personally by Sir Alex Ferguson, before recently starting a similar role for Ajax.

"Anders Limpar is the best player we've produced. The highest level in Europe is very difficult. Dejan Kulusevski is a very good player, but Lucas Bergvall is much better than Limpar and Kulusevski were at that age," he told football.london. "They are very good but I think Lucas in the future can be very, very good.

"He is a hard-working player but a very good technician. When we were in the youth tournaments against clubs like Bayern and Barcelona, he was always named the best player in the competition.

"Now Tottenham must take care of him. He will play with the seniors straight away and they must give him a chance. You must take care of the boy. He can be a top, top player in Europe."

So how will the youngster adapt to the rigours and attention that the Premier League will thrust upon him?

"He is good up here (points to his head). Don't worry about that. They must give him a chance," said the experienced Swede. "With the ball he will adapt very quickly. He's also very good with his head. He scores goals with his head. He's quite tall. Both he and Dejan are very good players, but Lucas is better at this age."

Now Tottenham fans will get to see exactly what Lucas Bergvall is all about in the months ahead.
