Ange Postecoglou will head into the 2024/25 campaign dreaming of having a fully-fit Tottenham squad available to him after the problems he encountered time and time again last season. Injuries and suspensions really hit Spurs hard throughout the year and that in turn limited the Australian's options in matches.

In December's 3-3 draw against Man City, Postecoglou was so short on numbers that his back four comprised of four full-backs and his nine-man bench included two goalkeepers and three of the club's talented academy players. In order for Tottenham to really push on next season, the 58-year-old needs his team to somehow try and avoid the inevitable injuries and suspensions that always hit teams at various points over the league campaign.

Key for Tottenham in the transfer market this summer is to add even more quality to the squad, thus in turn giving Postecoglou plenty of choice when it comes to both his starting XI and substitutes' bench. Already adding Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner to his plans for next term, the Australian may have Leeds United ace Archie Gray at his disposal after the club opened talks with the West Yorkshire outfit over a move for the talented 18-year-old.

Much more still has to be done in the transfer market by the club, including the addition of a new striker and ideally a new No.6. So what exactly could Postecoglou's Tottenham bench look like come their first Premier League game of the season against Leicester City on Monday, August 19? football.london takes a look below.

Tottenham's substitute goalkeeper will be Fraser Forster unless Postecoglou and his team decide that Brandon Austin is now Guglielmo Vicario's deputy after finishing last season as No.2 in the ex-Celtic shot-stopper's absence. However, Forster has a wealth of experience under his belt in comparison to Austin who has yet to make a competitive appearance in a senior game for the club.

Postecoglou did tend to select three defenders on his bench last season, with a right-back, left-back and centre-back all on there. If indeed Gray does sign on the dotted line in north London, the teenager can provide cover for Pedro Porro at right-back and also the team's midfielders.

Radu Dragusin should feature a lot more next season due to Tottenham's hectic schedule following their return to Europe but it's hard to see him starting come the first game with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven ahead of him. Ben Davies can then provide cover at left-back and also the heart of defence if required.

If Spurs are to get a deal over the line for a top-class No.6, Yves Bissouma may be relegated to the bench for the time being at least. Pape Matar Sarr may also join him as a substitute if Rodrigo Bentancur can get back the levels he showed before his ACL injury after struggling for consistent form upon his return from injury last October.

There will then be three slots available to Tottenham's attackers on the bench. Either Brennan Johnson or Dejan Kulusevski will be one of the trio, with Werner also likely to be a substitute as Son Heung-min is ahead of him in the pecking order when it comes to the left flank. All Tottenham fans are hoping that a proven goalscorer arrives at the club this summer as they look to find Harry Kane's long-term successor, meaning it could be Richarlison that has to settle for a place on the bench unless he makes himself an undroppable with a very strong pre-season.

Bergvall will then be hopeful of coming into Postecoglou's thinking for the Leicester game but one of the aforementioned midfielders or attackers would have to miss it in that case. The teenager may have to be patient for now as it will likely take him time to adapt to life in a new country as well as the pace and intensity of playing in England.

James Maddison spotted training with Tottenham transfer target

James Maddison has interestingly been spotted in training with a player linked with joining him at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spurs vice-captain's summer, of course, didn't begin as he would have hoped. After making Gareth Southgate's initial 33-man England squad for Euro 2024, Maddison eventually discovered he was to be one of seven left at home when the tournament actually got underway.

Conclusions can be drawn about that call - and many others over the last two weeks - as the Three Lions limped to a Round-of-16 exit to Slovakia, though the midfielder has sought to respond the best way he knows how on the field of play.

June has been a month of recuperation for the 27-year-old, taking time in the sun to recover and get some warm-weather individual training in Portugal for the 2024/25 season ahead. However, he wasn't exactly alone, as new footage shows the Spurs man engaging in his latest activities with none other than Morgan Gibbs-White.

The pair, making use of a BAStraining summer camp on their travels, can be seen in the footage playing a cat-and-mouse style game. Perhaps as well, the Spurs man has been making use of his time persuading the 24-year-old of a change of scenery once both are back in England?

Gibbs-White has previously been linked with joining Ange Postecoglou's side, with the club being told back in March of Forest's £50m asking price. However, that was when the East Midlands side were under pressure to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the deadline for which elapses on Sunday, June 30, with other sales earlier in the week raising the funds they required.

Ange Postecoglou wants Archie Gray Tottenham transfer for two reasons which make perfect sense

Tottenham will be hoping to complete their second summer transfer over the coming days with the arrival of Leeds United star Archie Gray. Timo Werner has already had his loan move back to Spurs confirmed, with Ange Postecoglou hoping to make more additions ahead of the 2024/25 season.

football.london understands Spurs hold a strong interest in Gray, with talks now open over a summer transfer after his proposed move to Brentford fell through. As reported by LeedsLive, the Whites were unhappy with the structure of Brentford's proposal and turned down their £40million approach.

As such, the Lilywhites now look set to take advantage, though a potential deal is still at the early stages. The bulk of his appearances came at right-back last season, but he also played 16 games in midfield, with 40 Championship starts, out of a possible 46, to his name.

Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked to Gray with Leeds hoping to sell before the June 30 PSR deadline. For a number of reasons, it is undeniably clear to understand why Postecoglou wants the teenager to be part of his squad next season.

Firstly, given the appearances made in a variety of positions, Gray's versatility is a major factor, with Postecoglou wanting his full-backs to invert. Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are a crucial part of his system, and therefore Gray would be an astute addition with it clear he can provide depth.

Given how Micky van de Ven performed at left-back in the absence of Udogie, signing cover for Porro is a priority, and Gray will provide exactly that. At just 18, it is very unlikely the England under-21 international will be immediately placed in the starting XI if signed, though he will be a valuable member of the squad.

While also being able to cover a number of positions, Gray is considered a homegrown player, having come through the Leeds academy. With Spurs set to take part in next season's Europa League, having those locally-trained players is vital when it comes to submitting the squads that will be eligible to play in both Europe and the Premier League.

With the likes of Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga being moved on, it is especially important that Spurs sign replacements that can also be considered homegrown. Those concerns are also why Spurs taken have taken an interest in re-signing Marcus Edwards.

Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah have also been of interest to Spurs in recent months, with the Blues potentially looking to offload both in order to help further balance their financial books.

Dream Tottenham defence for 2024/25 season after double transfer

Ange Postecoglou will hope to head into the 2024/25 season with a dream defence following aburst of exciting signing. The first-choice back five of Guglielmo Vicario, Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie all impressed under Postecoglou but now he is looking to bolster his squad depth.

Back in the January transfer window, Radu Dragusin arrived from Genoa with a number of his performances at Euro 2024 proof of his quality. With the Romania international offering Postecoglou more options at centre-back, Spurs now look to have turned their attention onto recruiting at full-back.

football.london has previously reported that Spurs hold a strong interest in versatile Leeds United star Archie Gray with talks now open over a possible summer transfer. Brentford looked set to wrap up a £35million deal for his signature, however with Leeds rejecting their offer, Spurs look set to hijack the deal.

Alongside hopefully acquiring the services of Gray, Postecoglou may also look to sign another central defender following exits for Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga. With that in mind, football.london has taken a look at what Tottenham's dream defence could look like come Monday, August 19 for their Premier League opener against Leicester City.

Goalkeeper - Guglielmo Vicario

The Italy international enjoyed a very impressive first season at the club and as such, he will be hoping to continue on an upward trajectory going forward.

Vicario is an unbelievable shot-stopper and he is also capable of playing out from the back which is one of the reasons he was brought in by Postecoglou. There is, however, one clear area of his game that needs improving with Spurs' set-piece weaknesses brutally exposed in the second half of the season.

On a number of occasions, the 27-year-old was far too weak when coming to collect crosses and corners with the Lilywhites conceding 14 goals from set-pieces. Despite that, the expectation is that he will definitely continue as the No.1 with Fraser Forster as the backup goalkeeper.

Right back - Pedro Porro

Though the arrival of Archie Gray would be exciting, it is very unlikely he immediately replaces Pedro Porro in the starting XI. The Spain international took a few months to adapt to life in north London but since replacing Emerson Royal at right-back for the second game of last season, he has not looked back.

Porro was often the consistent figure in Postecoglou's favoured back four with injuries rarely impacting him. However, with Tottenham set to play in the Europa League, having a player like Gray ready to replace him throughout the campaign will be crucial to avoid burnout.

Alternatively, the teenager is a natural in midfield while Porro may move further forward to accommodate Gray at right-back.

Centre backs - Micky van de Ven & Cristian Romero

Tottenham were far from solid in defence last season, but Romero and Van de Ven were regularly excellent. In the absence of Udogie, Postecoglou brought in Dragusin and moved Van de Ven to left-back, but it remains very clear what his favoured partnership is.

Due to injuries and suspensions, Tottenham were denied seeing the duo play together on a consistent basis. Van de Ven and Romero also contributed to numerous goals with Postecoglou often praising the latter's character and the Netherlands international's explosiveness and versatility.

As would be the case with Porro and Gray, having someone like Dragusin ready to make an impact will be huge as proven by his introduction in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa after Van de Ven picked up an injury.

Left-back - Destiny Udogie

Prior to last August, many Tottenham fans had forgotten about the signing of Destiny Udogie, but they were quickly reminded. The Italy international displayed his explosiveness on the ball frequently with two goals and three assists coming from his ventures forward.

When Udogie is not in the starting XI, it is very noticeable with a quadricep injury derailing the final weeks of his season. Postecoglou will be hoping for his return in pre-season and if that does not arrive in time, Spurs may look to welcome another left-back to plug the gap.

Other possible signings

Strengthening in defence is clearly a priority for Postecoglou and sporting director Johan Lange. football.london has previously reported that Tottenham want to sign another centre-back, though Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly, both long-term targets, are off the table.

With Postecoglou keen to increase the homegrown numbers in his squad, signing an Englishman is vital with a perfect one across the capital and up for sale. Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah looks set to depart in the summer with an asking price of £25million placed on his shoulders that Spurs could certainly afford.

Following Ryan Sessegnon's exit coming six months after Ivan Perisic sealed a departure, Tottenham may need to sign a new left-back. Fenerbache's Ferdi Kadioglu is attracting interest from the Premier League with Spurs a potential option alongside Arsenal.

The Turkiye international is currently at Euro 2024 and his ability to invert will likely be why Postecoglou is taking a keen interest.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's participation at Euro 2024 has now officially come to an end. Following Denmark's progression from Group C after finishing second behind England, the Danes were paired against Germany in the round of 16.

An incredibly tough game for Kasper Hjulmand's team coming up against the host nation, Denmark survived an early scare following Nico Schlotterbeck's disallowed header and went on to trouble the hosts with chances of their own. Tottenham star Hojbjerg, as ever, was a key figure and driving force in Denmark's midfield and he also made life difficult for Ilkay Gundogan and the rest of Germany's midfield with an excellent display.

A controversial couple of minutes at the start of the second half would swing the tie in Germany's favour, though, as Kai Havertz opened the scoring from the penalty spot. After Joachim Andersen had seen a goal chalked off for offside by the smallest of margins, moments later the Crystal Palace defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty box and Havertz did the rest.

Despite Hojbjerg and Denmark continuing to create chances on Manuel Neuer's goal, most notably for striker Rasmus Hojlund, Jamal Musiala doubled the lead in the 68th minute with a well-taken strike to deliver a hammer blow to the Danes. Following some excellent performances across Denmark's four games in Germany, Hojbjerg's tournament is over and he will now head off on his summer break.

As both Euro 2024 and the Copa America have impacted clubs in the transfer market this summer in regards to both incomings and outgoings, an early tournament exit for Hojbjerg could potentially present Tottenham with an opportunity to speed up a transfer away from the club for the 28-year-old. One thing for sure is that the ex-Southampton man, who is valued at £15million by Transfermarkt, should not be short on options due to his experience and a standout campaign at the Euros.

Previously a regular in the starting XI prior to Ange Postecoglou's arrival at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in June 2023, the midfielder did go on to feature in 36 of the team's 38 Premier League games in the 2023/24 campaign but only eight of those came from the start. Just not the ideal fit for the Australian's system, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr moved ahead of Hojbjerg in the pecking order long before Rodrigo Bentancur returned from his long-term injury.

Despite his lack of starts, the Copenhagen-born player still played a key role for Tottenham across the campaign as his experience to help see a game over the line was a welcome boost from the substitutes' bench. However, that's not the role Hojbjerg wants and a summer exit does look very likely in order for him to go back to starting games week in, week out.

The player's contract status also means that Tottenham do need to part with him this summer or they run the risk of losing him for nothing come the end of the 2024/25 campaign. Monday marks the start of the final year of Hojbjerg's contract in N17.

Tottenham's first team players are due to start filtering back to Hotspur Way from Saturday, July 6 onwards for pre-season training but it won't be until later in the month when Hojbjerg links up with his club teammates once again as he will now depart for his summer break after a long campaign. The beginning of July should see transfer moves start to ramp up and that could result in Hojbjerg, now that his time at Euro 2024 is over, sealing a move away from N17 after four years in the capital.

So far linked with Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund this summer, a few other clubs may now be keen on securing his services for the start of the 2024/25 season after a very impressive tournament out in Germany. Due to his contract situation, some club is going to pick up quite the bargain this summer when it comes to signing Hojbjerg.

Gareth Southgate has already sent clear message as Tottenham ‘try to hijack’ Chelsea and Arsenal deal

Gareth Southgate has already marked Leeds United's young gun, Archie Gray, for big things - which will only delight Spurs fans as they move closer to snapping up the youngster.

Durham-born and bred 18-year-old Gray had a stormer of a season with Leeds in The Championship across 2023/24, clocking up 44 appearances under the stewardship of Daniel Farke. Not just lighting up the Championship, he's also been dazzling on the international stage for England U21, bagging a goal against Azerbaijan in his first cap earlier this year.

Gray's cracking performances caught the attention of Southgate who heaped praise on the midfielder's dedication to his club back in May and dropped hints about future call-ups to the senior England squad. When rolling out his Euro 2024 squad last month, Southgate said: "There are some players with the Under-21s who are doing exceptionally well, especially in midfield.

"The likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Harvey Elliott, Rico [Lewis] was with us last time, Archie Gray at Leeds is doing very, very well I have to say, so there are a number of players in that group we could move in." Despite a respectable third-place finish in the Championship, a Play-Off final defeat to Southampton at Wembley has seen Premier League suits hoping another season in the second tier might nudge Gray towards a change of scenery.

Despite receiving a hefty £40million bid from Brentford for their midfield ace, the Peacocks held firm, even though they agreed for him to undergo a medical last weekend. Now, Spurs have reportedly kicked off negotiations for the signature of Gray after keeping tabs on the youngster for several months.

Tottenham's boss, Ange Postecoglu, is set to hold talks with the Leeds prodigy on Sunday, as he aims to secure an exciting addition to his squad, reports the Express. Despite interest from rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, it's claimed that Gray has a preference for a move to Tottenham as per The Athletic.

And Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe has hinted at the possibility of selling the midfielder, suggesting a transfer might be on the horizon. Marathe explained: "If I can paint the big picture for you, there are certain things that we need to do, and we will make sure we are fully compliant with PSR, as we always have been.

"And there are certain trade-offs that we have to make and so we'll have to get to the drawing board and figure out which moves we have to make sure that we are compliant. It's too early to say. Obviously Archie is a tremendous player, as are all of the players who put in so much effort for us, but you know, every season brings change and so I can't yet comment on it, but we'll see what happens."

With the departure of Tanguy Ndombele from Spurs, Gray's arrival would certainly bolster the midfield at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, the north London side will need to meet Leeds' reported £30m valuation to land the highly-rated talent.

Tottenham make Archie Gray transfer move after Leeds reject £40m Brentford offer in late twist

Tottenham are in talks with Leeds United over the signing of Archie Gray, football.london understands. Looking set to link up with Brentford after undertaking a medical on Saturday following an agreement on personal terms, on Sunday the Championship club rejected a deal from the Bees worth around £40million for the 18-year-old.

LeedsLive reported that the West Yorkshire club were unhappy with the structure of the deal Brentford were offering and cancelled the transfer. Following a standout season in the Championship with Leeds, a host of Premier League clubs have been linked with the Durham-born starlet.

Tottenham are one of those clubs, with football.london previously reporting the club's strong interest in the youngster. It's not hard to see why Spurs are now trying to complete a deal for the versatile player after playing an integral role in Leeds' promotion push that unfortunately culminated in a 1-0 defeat against Southampton in the Championship play-off final.

The club's failure to regain their place back in the Premier League at the first time of asking means that there will be some high-profile exits from Elland Road this summer. With a reported £190million in outstanding transfer fees owed and one of the Championship's highest wage bills, Gray can help bring in a sizeable fee to help ease the club's financial situation.

Talks over Gray securing a move to Tottenham are very much in the early stages at present but the England Under-21 could prove to be a very shrewd acquisition by the football club if a transfer is completed. A midfielder by trade, Gray spent the vast majority of the 2023/24 campaign operating as a right-back.

The starlet excelled in the role in Daniel Farke's team and his ability to play at right-back would suit Ange Postecoglou down to the ground. Tottenham do lack a natural replacement for Pedro Porro with Emerson Royal, who has been linked with a summer exit, unfortunately not possessing the qualities to come inside and play from the central areas.

However, that comes naturally to Gray due to the fact that he is a midfielder. The Leeds United man would also provide further competition in midfield, a position he is firmly expected to establish himself in the future.

Sign up to our Tottenham WhatsApp service and get all the latest breaking news and in-depth stories from football.london's dedicated Tottenham writers direct to your phone by clicking this link.

Whereas Tottenham are aiming to strike a deal with Leeds United for Gray, the Championship side are also believed to be keen on a couple of Spurs' own players. football.london understands that Farke would be keen for a reunion with Oliver Skipp after previously working together at Norwich City and that Leeds remain in the hunt for Joe Rodon following his exceptional season on loan at Elland Road.

If Gray does indeed secure a permanent move to Tottenham after the collapse of his Brentford transfer, he will follow Timo Werner and Lucas Bergvall in signing on ahead of the 2024/25 term.

The nine players waving goodbye to Tottenham today as Ange Postecoglou plots transfer changes

The 2023/24 season officially comes to a close on Sunday as Monday marks the start of July and the 2024/25 campaign. That means clubs will be saying farewell to players upon the expiration of their contracts on June 30.

For Tottenham, nine players will be departing N17 for a fresh challenge elsewhere. It is a key summer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Ange Postecoglou looks to make the necessary changes to his playing squad to help them hit the next level.

The Lilywhites were very active in the transfer market 12 months ago and the same needs to happen this time around. As part of the squad changes ahead of the 2024/25 term, Spurs announced at the beginning of June the departures of Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga at their end of their contracts.

Both Dier and Perisic did in fact leave Tottenham in January as they linked up with Bayern Munich and Hajduk Split respectively on initial loan deals. Dier went on to feature prominently under Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena as Bayern went far in the Champions League but unfortunately couldn't regain their Bundesliga crown.

Perisic, on the other hand, would only feature in seven games for Hajduk Split after battling back from the ACL injury he sustained in non-contact training at Tottenham in September but it was enough to see him make Croatia's Euro 2024 squad. Both Dier and Perisic's loan moves will become permanent following the conclusion of their Spurs contracts.

Whereas the aforementioned duo are all set for the 2024/25 season, it remains to be seen where exactly Sessegnon and Tanganga will be playing their football. Sessegnon endured another injury-hit campaign at Tottenham but Crystal Palace and West Ham have been linked with him so far this summer, with Millwall keen on signing Tanganga permanently after such a successful time on loan at The Den in the second half of last season.

Sunday will also mark the end of Tanguy Ndombele's time at Tottenham. Earlier this month Spurs confirmed the mutual termination of his contract, which had one more year left to run on it.

A club statement read: "The Club can confirm the departure of Tanguy Ndombele following the mutual termination of his contract, effective from 30 June, upon the conclusion of his current loan spell.

"Signed from Olympique Lyonnais in July, 2019, the midfielder scored on his debut against Aston Villa and went on to make 91 appearances for us in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.

"During his time here, Tanguy had loan spells back at Lyon, Napoli and with Turkish Süper Lig side Galatasaray last season. We should like to wish Tanguy all the best for the future."

Following underwhelming loan spells with Lyon, Napoli and Galatasaray, Ndombele will be hoping to get his career back on track at his next club amid so much hope initially following his move to Tottenham five years ago. The Frenchman was limited to only 469 minutes of action in his 19 league appearances for the Turkish side in the 2023/24 season.

Elsewhere, development squad player Charlie Sayers will wave goodbye to Tottenham following the conclusion of his contract and the same goes for Billy Heaps at the end of his third-year scholarship. Under-18s players Kieran Morgan and Han Willhoft-King complete the nine players exiting Tottenham on June 30, with QPR confirming the signing of Morgan in late May.
