Rangers have missed out on one of the defenders that had been linked to them as he has now joined Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs likely waited on their transfer activity until they secured Premier League status, and once that was done, they can now go ahead and sign players they would have wanted.

This is not ideal news for the Light Blues, as they would have wanted to sign a left-back, but they will now have to look at alternatives.

Who must Rangers sell as part of the squad overhaul this summer?

Cavenagh and Rohl have major decisions to make.

Andy Robertson has finalised his move to Tottenham Hotspur

Rangers wanted to sign Andy Robertson when they realised that he was set to part ways with Liverpool following the end of his contract.

However, they will not be signing him this summer as he has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.

The Scotland international’s rumoured move to Ibrox sparked mixed feelings among the fanbase due to his Celtic past.

That is not something that the fans need to think about any longer and the club are now likely to target alternative left-backs.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

James Penrice is high up on Rangers’ radar and they are likely to explore that signing further and look at avenues to bring him back to the Scottish Premiership.

They are yet to strike an agreement with AEK Athens over a transfer fee, however.

Is James Penrice a good signing for Rangers? 🤔

Why Robertson to Rangers would likely have been a bad move for all parties

Robertson is a boyhood Celtic fan and even spent six years at the club’s academy before he left for Queen’s Park.

While he is highly rated in Scotland and could have been a decent second-choice option for the Gers, his wage demands would have been too high.

Despite being 32, he is still capable of putting in a shift, and any deal to sign him would mean him being the most expensive player at Ibrox.

Rangers were in no position to abolish their wage structure for someone who supports Celtic and is also unwilling to move to a Scottish Premiership side.

There are other left-backs on the market that the Gers are expected to consider over the coming weeks, so Robertson joining Spurs is not the end of the world.

Rangers signed Mikey Moore on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season in the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old had a slow start to life at Ibrox, but has undoubtedly taken his game to the next level in recent weeks.

Moore was the star performer for Rangers as they beat Kilmarnock 5-1 in the SPFL on Wednesday night.

David Edgar shares colossal Mikey Moore permanent transfer fee

Heart and Hand podcast host David Edgar is known to have insider contacts at Ibrox and regularly provides reliable information about the club on X and other social platforms.

He claims that before Moore joined the Gers on loan, he was valued at £25million by Spurs despite only being a 17-year-old at the time.

In fact, he made his debut when he was a 16-year-old, in a 2-0 defeat for Tottenham against Manchester City, making him the club’s youngest ever Premier League player.

Ange Postecoglou used him not only in the league but also in the Europa League, and Spurs felt that it was ideal for him to spend a season out on loan to gain first-team experience.

Given how good he has been for his age and the fact that he is only going to get better, Edgar believes that it will cost Rangers or any other club between £30million and £40million to secure his services in the summer.

Even then, it is understood that the Lilywhites will be reluctant to part ways with the English attacking midfielder.

Via X, Edgar wrote: “He was rated at £25m before he came. They know what they have there.

“You’re looking at £30-40m for him and even then they wouldn’t want to sell him.

“In 5 years he’ll be an England international.”

How has Moore fared at Rangers thus far?

The 18-year-old has made 13 league starts this season and another seven appearances off the bench.

In those, he has managed to find the back of the net four times, and he has provided two assists as well.

The pick of his performances most certainly came in the win against Kilmarnock, with him scoring a goal, providing an assist and creating five chances.

Moore is understood to be building a solid understanding with left-back Jayden Meghoma.
