Bournemouth v Tottenham Hotspur LIVE: Premier League updates

Bournemouth appeal for a penalty as Bergvall charges down a shot, and VAR does check it. But his arms were tucked in and he turned away, and it’s not a penalty.

Six minutes will be added on at the end of this game. Can Spurs grab an equaliser that they scarcely deserve?

Bournemouth break and it’s two on two. Ouattara has it, but he takes far too long before eventually shooting wildly over the bar.

Spurs make a real hash of playing out from the back as Dragusin gives it away, but Forster makes a strong save. Bournemouth have had so many opportunities to put this game to bed.

Bournemouth make a trio of subs to complete their full set of five. Billing, Brooks and Unal come on for Evanilson, Tavernier and Semenyo.

There’s so much space for Bournemouth on the break now, but Ouattara fails to take advantage as his first effort is charged down by Porro and the second flies over the bar. Bournemouth had players over and he really should have done better there.

Spurs roll the dice. Off go Bissouma, who was on a yellow, and Maddison, and on come Werner and Bergvall. That’s going to mean a very open formation for the final minutes of this game.

The stepovers are out in force as Ouattara jinks down the outside and looks to open up space for a shot. He has Dragusin in trouble, but the defender does just enough to put him off and the shot is wayward.

A loose pass from Son puts Bissouma in trouble and he’s robbed of possession. Tavernier almost makes Spurs pay with a fizzing shot from range that whistles the wrong side of the top corner.

Forster makes a complete hash of playing out from the back and Bournemouth very nearly take advantage. The keeper makes a save as he scrambles to recover, but the rebound drops to Evanilson who tucks home. Bournemouth celebrate… but VAR steps in and it was offside when the shot deflected to the striker.

Fouling at corners seems to have become pretty commonplace in the league of late, but Bournemouth aren’t being quite as canny at it as some and the referee once again blows up for a free-kick as a corner is swung in.

A push from a corner is picked up by the referee and Adams delays the restart to allow his defensive colleagues to get back into position. The official spots that and books the Bournemouth man.

Christie bursts to the edge of the box and shoots low, beating Forster but seeing his effort cannon off the post.

Maddison curls a corner right into the mixer and Kepa does well to punch it clear. Porro follows up by firing a shot in low from distance, but the keeper had stayed alive after the punch and saves well.

Kepa takes an age to take a goal-kick and is booked for it. He protests, but doesn’t have much of a case.

SPURS HELD AGAINST 10-MAN FULHAM

There was a chaotic 20-minute cameo for Fulham captain Tom Cairney who came off the bench to rescue a point for Fulham on the road against Tottenham before being sent off.

Brennan Johnson and Cairney were both on target as the 10-man Cottagers earned a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Spurs took the lead against the run of play at the start of the second period, but Cairney came off the bench to cancel out Johnson’s stylish finish with a beautiful strike of his own.

The first half was all about the goalkeepers, who both made big saves. Bernd Leno denied Heung-min Son from point-blank range in the second minute, before Fraser Forster reacted excellently to deny Raul Jimenez an opener.

Fulham were the ones who continued to ask the question in the opening 45 minutes, and following Forster’s heroics, Alex Iwobi crashed the ball off the underside of the bar minutes before half-time.

Forster was called into action a couple of times early in the second half to deny Issa Diop and Iwobi, and the visitors would rue the missed opportunities as Spurs swiftly took the lead.

Timo Werner clipped in an excellent cross for Johnson - who had been very quiet in the opening period - to blast in with a volley at the back post to break the deadlock with his sixth goal of the season.

Cairney’s afternoon quickly came to an end, though, when he was sent off after catching the back of Dejan Kulusevski’s leg with his studs.

And despite having the player advantage, Spurs could not capitalise in the final 15 minutes of action as Fulham held on for the point.

Ange Postecoglou 'not interested' in pragmatism at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou believes people may long for his entertaining style of play after his time as Tottenham manager comes to an end.

Spurs are sixth in the Premier League table after an inconsistent start to the season.

They have fallen to defeat against relegation candidates Crystal Palace and Ipswich but stormed to convincing victories over Aston Villa and champions Manchester City in their last four league games.

'A lot of fighting, long balls, second balls' - Amorim sets out Everton threat

However, Postecoglou is refusing to countenance a drift towards pragmatism ahead of his side's match against Fulham on Sunday.

"Look, I don't know how many ways I can say this," he said.

"Look, there's plenty of room for pragmatism in walks of life and in football as well.

"But I'm just not interested in it. I don't know why I need to change my approach to be like everyone else wants me to be.

"I'll continue to push this team to be a bit different, to play football in a different way, and maybe when I'm long gone you'll all pine for my entertainment, and you'll have had your fill of pragmatism.

"If we were pragmatic, I'd say at 2-0 up at City away, we'd have probably settled, and we wouldn't have got the victory we did and made it a special moment for our club."

Spurs currently have six wins, one draw and five defeats across their 12 Premier League games this season.

They followed up their morale-boosting victory against Manchester City with an underwhelming 2-2 draw against Serie A strugglers Roma in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Postecoglou insists his side have nothing to lose when they take risks on the pitch.

"I always think of the possibilities of what could be if we continue down this road, rather than holding on to what we have," he added.

"At the moment what do we have? We don't have a hell of a lot. We haven't achieved anything yet, we haven't had success, we haven't done all the things we want to do.

"So if I start being pragmatic now, maybe we'll never get there.

"Last night we weren't at our highest level but, jeez, I thought for 20 minutes we were as exciting as we've been since I've been here.

"I loved our last 20 minutes of the first half. We should have got a third goal to kill the game off but we were exciting to watch.

"And that's what I want."

Spurs vs Roma LIVE: Updates from UEFA Europa League clash

Mats Hummels was on hand to mark his full Roma debut with a goal, as Claudio Ranieri’s side twice came from behind to deny Spurs a UEFA Europa League victory in a 2-2 draw in an end-to-end clash in North London.

The hosts made the best possible start, with Son Heung-Min scoring from the penalty spot after VAR had got involved to award a penalty for a foul on Pape Sarr, only for Evan Ndicka to equalise when he flicked home Paulo Dybala’s free-kick.

Roma started strongly after the break and had two goals ruled out for offside, while Angelino clattered the bar with a volley, a feat mirrored by Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanko at the other end.

The chances looked to have fizzled out, until Hummels popped up in injury time to poke home from Angelino’s cross.

At Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim got his first win as Manchester United boss. Here's how he did it.

"It's frustrating, because they were so good in the first half. It felt like they dropped off, they dropped off and they invited pressure. Roma grew in confidence. They are a team full of players who are good on the ball; real footballers.

"They probed, they kept going and it was a matter of time before they equalised. It felt like Tottenham were waiting to concede. Roma full deserve the point."

Joe Cole, on TNT Sports, says: "A really entertaining game. You always get that when you come here. You don't know what you're going to get from Tottenham from one half to the other.

"First half, they were brilliant. I thought they were in control. Second half, Roma really put their foot on the gas and could have scored four or five goals. So could Spurs. If they want to progress in this competition, they have to win games like this."

What a game! Ranieri is up and running as Roma boss, Spurs are left disappointed after throwing away a lead on two occasions. Son and Johnson scored for the hosts, Ndicka and Hummels found the equalisers. A point each!

It's hard to say if that was a cross or shot from Maddison. Whatever it was, it goes into the side netting

They've done it! Angelino fizzes a brilliant cross right in front of goal, and Hummels is there to stab home at the back post!

He tries to nod the ball back to his 'keeper, but the contact is weak. That gives Dovbyk a glimmer of a hope of getting on the end of it, but Forster is off his mark quickly

Good play down the left from the German, who cuts inside into the box, but sees a cross/shot claimed by the goalkeeper at his near post

The clock is ticking down for Roma, who are throwing a lot of men forward now but not getting any reward for it

Solanke comes close as he meets a cross at the near post, but sends his towering headers against the woodwork

They just seem to be fizzling out a bit here. Certainly that promise from earlier in the half has disappeared

Manchester City v Tottenham live: Premier League latest as superb James Maddison double gives Spurs shock half-time lead against champions

Description

A stunning victory, the heaviest home defeat of Pep's managerial career but the best for Ange as Tottenham boss. What a victory!

And that puts the gloss on the night for City! Brennan Johnson tapping home the fourth for Spurs from the Timo Werner cross. So easy. So slick for Spurs.

Set for four added minutes. Nice to make a triple change at this stage. James Maddison off for Timo Werner with Lucas Bergvall and Djed Spence taking over from Pape Sarr and Destiny Udogie.

Brennan Johnson goes beyond Ederson, but can't convert from a tight angle as ball comes back off a post. Brilliant from Tottenham again.

Josko Gvardiol is caught offside. Looks like there might some more changes on the way too.

Silva this time whacks a volley over the bar from the Jack Grealish cross. Spurs have been well organised in seeing out this victory in the second half.

A few City fans head for the exit doors. They've seen enough. Bernardo Silva booked for a foul on Maddison before De Bruyne and Pape Sarr are yellow carded for a spot of afters. Tottenham fans in full voice.

Hasn't really been the Norway striker's night as his shot is too near Vicario and the Tottenham keeper makes another solid stop.

Ilkay Gundogan with a powerful hit at the near post, but that man Vicario is well placed to make the stop. It remains 3-0.

City bring on Kevin de Bruyne and Jack Grealish as Savinho and Rico Lewis arrive for the home side. But surely too little, too late.

Foden can't get any purchase on the latest effort, City's first on target of the second half, as the Tottenham keeper dives to make an easy stop.

Looking for a big man to get some muscle on that in the Tottenham box, but nothing doing as Vicario is off his line to collect with some ease.

Has been the story of the night. The champions are opened up with some ease once again as Spurs race into the box, but Ederson produces a fine block to deny Kulusevski a certain fourth.

Rico Lewis picked up a yellow card for taking out that man Maddison, who has been the stand-out performer tonight.

Probably as vital as his finish at the other end as he does enough to deflect the finish from Josko Gvardiol wide of his goal. 3-0 heading for final 30 minutes or so.

A few hopeful crosses from City before Haaland sees a shot skim off the top of the bar and fly over. Almost one back. That shows how quickly these games can change. Spurs can't let up.

A blue night for those City defenders, but Guardiola is out of his technical area and demanding fight from his side. You don't want to chuck the towel with 30 minutes remaining.

man Spurs as Turkish giants triumph in UEFA Europa League

Tottenham Hotspur missed the chance to top the UEFA Europa League table as they fell to a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray at RAMS Park.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were so often masters of their own downfall as Victor Osimhen, the on-loan Napoli striker, bagged a brace to add to Yunus Akgun’s stunning opener.

Teenager Will Lankshear notched his first senior goal but was then sent off for a second bookable offence, and Dominic Solanke made an instant impact off the substitutes’ bench with a delicate backheeled finish from Pedro Porro to halve the deficit and keep Spurs in touching distance.

Premier League

Solanke bags double as Spurs seal big comeback win over Villa

However, the visitors kept crumbling under the intense pressure from the raucous home support, who whistled furiously in an attempt to tease out mistakes.

Errors continued to plague the inexperienced Spurs side - which had seven changes made to it after Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa - as their insistence on playing out from the back had them punished twice, but it really should have been more.

Okan Buruk's hosts were ahead inside just six minutes when former Leicester City loanee Akgun half-volleyed a beauty into the top corner after Archie Gray had nodded away a free-kick, and it seemed as though Spurs' young starlets would falter under the intimidation and deafening noise around the stadium.

They responded brilliantly, however, with their first foray forwards resulting in an equaliser - scored by the teenager Lankshear - after great persistence from Son Heung-min down the left, before Gray picked up the pieces on the underlap.

The deputising left-back got his head up to find Brennan Johnson peeling away at the far post, and the Wales international had the awareness to pick out Lankshear with a ball across the face of goal, which the junior striker prodded into the back of the net.

Back-up goalkeeper Fraser Forster was in fine form to halt Osimhen on 25 minutes when he was slotted through by the rampaging Gabriel Sara, and the Nigerian thought he had the Turkish side's second when he nodded past the English shot-stopper, only to be denied by the flag.

Osimhen, however, would get on the scoresheet just two minutes later, with more sloppiness from the visitors playing out, and Dries Mertens latched onto the loose ball, sliding in the loanee to poke it past the onrushing Forster to re-establish Gala's lead.

Forster was on hand to thwart Osimhen once more as Radu Dragusin was again caught dawdling on the ball, and just one minute later, Osmihen doubed his tally for the evening, with Spurs' concentration waning as the attack reached its second phase. Mertens picked the ball up down the right, bending in an inviting ball that Osimhen buried.

Postecoglou was forced into action at half-time, hauling off Son and Johnson for Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, but the changes had no impact on the game's momentum as the pendulum swung even further in Gala's favour, the hosts piling on the pressure.

Mauro Icardi latched onto another loose ball in Spurs' final third but lashed over, before a penalty-box melee ensued as Mertens fired a shot at Bentancur. From the resulting corner, Akgun stung the palms of Forster with a vicious effort from range, before Osimhen missed a golden opportunity for his hat-trick as he directed a header high and wide from a delicious Mertens delivery.

The Turkish side could have been made to rue their profligacy as Solanke emerged off the bench to snatch what would turn out to be just a consolation for Tottenham, who were down to 10 after Lankshear was sent off for two yellows: first elbowing Kaan Ayhan, and then mistiming a challenge on Gabriel Sara tight to the touchline.

Icardi had the ball in the visiting net on 76 minutes after he linked up nicely with substitute Hakim Ziyech to slice through the wide-open Spurs defence, but the former Inter Milan forward, who was stretchered off later in the encounter, was flagged for offside.

The north London outfit slip down to fifth in the league table with the defeat, and they will need to dust themselves down quickly with tricky tests against Roma and Rangers coming thick and fast.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, top the tree on 10 points - at least temporarily - and they travel to AZ Alkmaar next.

TALKING POINT - WILTING UNDER PRESSURE

Postecoglou was forced into wholesale changes for this one after injuries to two of his first-choice players.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, his go-to centre-back pairing, were left at home on the treatment table, while it seemed as though those defensive problems may worsen when Pedro Porro felt his hamstring in the dying embers here.

This was an audition for some of Spurs' second string to impress, but it will be a case of chance missed in Postecoglou's eyes, with the Australian forced to turn to those he had planned to rest in a desperate attempt to salvage something.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - VICTOR OSIMHEN

Two goals, and a brilliant performance. The Nigerian ran the Spurs defence ragged, terrorising them with his physicality and his pace in behind.

He showed his deadly goalscoring knack in the penalty area with two extremely well-taken finishes. He was very unlucky not to walk away with the match ball.
