Tottenham transfers: Swap deal proposed for Tyler Dibling as Southampton chase 'much admired' Spurs wonderkid

Tottenham could end up parting ways with one of their talented youngsters if they want to succeed in the race to sign exciting Southampton winger Tyler Dibling before the winter window shuts.

Spurs have been on Dibling watch for much of the season, given the huge impression the forward has made down on the south coast, although they are not the only club keen on his signature.

German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on the 18-year-old, while Manchester United have also been mentioned in passing as Dibling’s long-term future appears to lie away from St Mary’s.

As we reported on Thursday, Southampton are reluctant to offload the likes of Dibling and Leeds United target Cameron Archer halfway through the season as they fight for their Premier League survival – a tussle they look highly unlikely to win at this stage.

However, a fresh report that emerged on Friday suggests that Saints are exploring the possibility of taking Tottenham academy star Tyrese Hall in a swap deal before Monday’s deadline passes.

Spurs currently remain the frontrunners for Dibling’s signature, but adding in the caveat of a potential swap proposal could be the thing that ends up swinging the deal.

There is every likelihood that a bidding war will ensue for Dibling if Southampton wait until the summer, with another suitor, Newcastle, being tipped to offer Matt Targett a homecoming if they land Dibling.

However, the Daily Express reports that Southampton are huge admirers of Spurs youngster Hall and that they have enquired about signing the midfielder if they agree to Dibling moving in the opposite direction.

There’s every chance that Saints have already started planning for life in the Championship again as they sit 11 points from safety, with 19-year-old Hall tipped as a real prospect who could feature heavily for them going forward.

Hall has featured 16 times across Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy this season for Tottenham, scoring five times and laying on five assists.

Surprisingly, he’s never been loaned out, with the club instead opting to continue with his development in-house.

Dibling move fits Tottenham transfer strategy

If Tottenham do continue with their chase for Diblng, it could end up costing them in the region of £55million – depending on how much they value Hall as well.

The Southampton starlet’s stats do not exactly jump off the table, having scored four goals and added two assists in 24 games in all competitions this season. However, his all-round performances and the nightmares he has given opposing full-backs this term have made a lasting impression on suitors.

Dibling also ticks a number of boxes on terms of Tottenham’s current recruitment drive as they look to build a squad of quality young talent that Ange Postecoglou can develop – if he’s given the time to do so in the club’s current predicament in the Premier League.

Dibling would be immediate competition for Brennan Johnson on the right wing, with Dejan Kulusevski now preferred as a No.10, although he also has the ability to play through the middle – a position from where he scored two of his four goals this campaign.

It just remains to be sen whether Tottenham can persuade Southampton into a deal during the closing days of the window and whether or not they are prepared to offload Hall as part of the transfer.

Latest Tottenham news: Kane talks up talented Tel / Walker-Peters return mooted

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp has revealed Harry Kane’s assessment of his Bayern Munich teammate Mathys Tel, as Tottenham appear to be closing in on a move for the talented young forward.

The 19-year-old has only started four games in all competitions this season and has found regular minutes hard to come by in Vincent Kompany’s side, given the plethora of attacking players at the Bayern boss’ disposal.

The versatile forward has also attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United, who are keen on a loan deal, and Chelsea, but has not made a final decision on which club he will join – if he does indeed decide to leave.

However, if Tel does choose to join Spurs then Kane believes his former club will have picked up a great talent, according to Redknapp.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly ready to offer former player Kyle Walker-Peters a route back to the club, in a move it’s believed he would welcome making.

Tottenham injuries: Major fears emerge over another serious Spurs issue

Tottenham are bracing themselves for another potentially crippling injury blow after centre-back Radu Dragusin was forced off on Thursday night’s Europa League win over Elfsborg.

The north London outfit booked their place in the last 16 of the competition thanks to debut goals from Dane Scarlett, Oyindamola Ajayi and Mikey Moore as they finished the extended group phase in fourth place.

However, Tottenham look to be facing another potential long-term absentee judging by early indications of Dragusin‘s injury.

The Romania international had replaced the returning Micky van de Ven at half-time of the contest against the Swedish outfit but went down off the ball after a tussle with striker Jalal Abdullai.

He was taken off and replaced by goalscorer Scarlett, with replays showing that Dragusin came down on his knee awkwardly and looked to be in significant pain

Indeed, TNT Sports‘ pundit and Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle said at the time: “That looks quite serious because look, he plays the ball there and then he’s landed and wow, he holds his knee.”

Spurs currently have nine first-team players sidelined through injury, including defenders Djed Spence, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie. Keeper Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and James Maddison round out that list – although Spence is expected back this weekend against Brentford.

Speaking on Dragusin’s injury after the match, Postecoglou added: “It is too early to say what it is, we will need to investigate further.

“But it was his knee which is not good.

“We have another game on Sunday. The club will be working hard behind the scenes to see if we can get something done.”

Van de Ven return a huge lift for Tottenham

The return of the hugely influential Van de Ven to the starting XI was a major boost for Postecoglou and Spurs as they look to arrest an alarming slide in the Premier League, with the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against liverpool also on the horizon.

The Dutch defender cruised through the opening 45 minutes against Elfsborg, hardly having to break a sweat as Tottenham dominated without finding an opening goal.

Van de Ven was aggressive and on the front foot though when it came to winning his one-on-one battles, although Postecoglou would probably have wanted to see him in a foot race to check out his fitness fully ahead of the trip to Brentford on Sunday.

Speaking after the match, Postecoglou revealed that it was always his plan to rotate some senior players out at halt-time to rest them up for the weekend.

Indeed, the Spurs boss said: “The three [players substituted – Van De Ven, Heung-min Son and Rodrigo Bentancur] at half-time were all planned, all three are OK. We’ve got a big week coming up and just trying to manage our players.”

“Micky got through it fine, it was always going to be 45 and he felt fine.”

Mathys Tel: Harry Kane gives verdict on mooted Tottenham signing as Levy presents tempting proposal

Description

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp has revealed Harry Kane’s assessment of his Bayern Munich teammate Mathys Tel, as Tottenham appear to be closing in on a move for the talented young forward.

The 19-year-old put a host of top European clubs on red alert when he told Bayern that he would like to leave the club before the end of the January transfer window in the search for more game time.

Tel has only started four games in all competitions this season and has found regular minutes hard to come by in Vincent Kompany’s side, in part due to the goalscoring exploits of former Spurs captain Kane and impressive wide players like Leroy Sane, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman.

However, it’s Kane old side Tottenham who could benefit from Tel’s desire to move, with reports suggesting that the north London club have agreed a €60million (£50.2m / $62m) deal to sign the France Under-21 international.

“He’s a very talented player, that’s for sure,” Redknapp said when asked about Tel on Sky Sports News.

“19 years of age and Tottenham have obviously signed a lot of good young players in the last few years. That seems to be the profile of what they are trying to get.

“I messaged Harry Kane earlier on and he was very complimentary about him.

“First of all, he said he was a great guy; wants to work, good trainer, a good finisher and has a lot of potential.”

Redknapp, however, is worried about the size of the fee that Tottenham have reportedly agreed to pay for the player and questioned how often he will actually feature for Ange Postecoglou’s side – even with the club’s current injury crisis.

He added: “It’s a lot of money, 50 million, for a 19 year old. You can’t think of too many others players at that age that have cost much more.

“He can play across the line… but there’s still Son (Heung-Min), there’s still (Dejan) Kulusevski and (Dominic) Solanke when he is fit.

“So there’s probably not a guarantee that he’ll come in as a regular starter but trying to get in front of Harry Kane at Bayern Munich is not easy as we know.”

Romano reveals Tottenham sell to Tel

Tel, however, will likely provide some immediate respite and cover for Spurs’ squad which remains ravaged by injury, with attacking stars Solanke, Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert all currently out.

Maddison became the latest forward player to hit the sidelines when he was ruled out for two to three weeks with a calf strain prior to the win over Elfsborg in the Europa League, having also missed out against former club Leicester last weekend.

Tel’s potential arrival would certainly be a welcome one and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed how Tottenham are trying to sell the transfer to the player.

Writing on X, Romano said: “Tottenham have presented their project to Mathys Tel and his agent with game time as key factor. Spurs also had direct meeting with Bayern to guarantee €60m fee in case Tel decides to accept.

“Mathys needs some time to decide… with several clubs keen and in talks.”

Latest Tottenham news: Spurs move for familiar face / Southampton make Dibling stance

Tottenham are reportedly ready to offer a former player a route back to the club, in a move it’s believed he would welcome making.

Spurs have plainly had defensive struggles this season. In the Premier League, there are only five sides with worse defensive records than they have, although having the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie has certainly not helped.

That has left them light on reinforcements and TBRFootball reports that Tottenham are ready to offer their former right-back Kyle Walker-Peters a route back to north London.

Meanwhile, Southampton have made it clear to clubs that they will not sell the likes of Tyler Dibling or Cameron Archer halfway through the season, TEAMtalk can reveal.

Mathys Tel: Man Utd banking on two factors as hijack of Tottenham transfer begins

Description

Manchester United are attempting to re-route Mathys Tel to Old Trafford despite an agreement being struck between Bayern Munich and Tottenham, and Ruben Amorim’s side are banking on two critical factors.

Tel, 19, has quickly become world football’s most in-demand striker. The talented Frenchman has decided to leave Bayern Munich amid dissatisfaction with his playing time. With Bayern giving the green light to an exit, a mad scramble for Tel’s signature has begun.

From just the Premier League, Man Utd, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham have explored a move. Spurs have raced into the position of favourites after agreeing a deal worth €60m/£50m with Bayern Munich for Tel’s permanent transfer.

That news was broken in France by outlets Le Parisien and L’Equipe, and was quickly confirmed by publications and trusted sources around the world.

However, Ange Postecoglou cannot celebrate just yet, with Tel yet to agree personal terms with Spurs. Furthermore, numerous clubs including Man Utd are still engaging in active talks for Tel’s signing despite Tottenham’s club-to-club agreement with Bayern.

And according to fresh updates from Fabrizio Romano and Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Man Utd retain serious hope of hijacking Spurs’ deal.

Plettenberg confirmed Man Utd are considering lodging a loan proposal after a fresh round of talks with the player’s agent. Romano stressed Tel is keeping Tottenham waiting so far and “needs some time to decide” his future.

Plettenberg wrote on X: “Manchester United remain active in the race for Mathys Tel and have held new talks with his agent today.

“The Red Devils are reportedly considering a loan move. Bayern already have a verbal agreement with Tottenham over a permanent deal worth €60m.”

Also taking to X, Romano reported: “Tottenham have presented their project to Mathys Tel and his agent with game time as key factor.

“Spurs also had direct meeting with Bayern to guarantee €60m fee in case Tel decides to accept. Mathys needs some time to decide… with several clubs keen and in talks.”

As such, a Tel transfer to Tottenham remains hanging in the balance and two other reports have given huge encouragement to Man Utd.

Man Utd banking on Tel preference and favourable deal structure

According to journalist Paul O’Keefe, Tel’s favoured destination if leaving Bayern Munich is actually Man Utd.

“The boy wants Man Utd. Let’s see how Bayern play that,” reported O’Keefe on Thursday.

And with Tel hesitating on agreeing terms with Spurs, there does appear to be scope for Man Utd to succeed with a hijack attempt.

What’s more, Tel’s alleged preference for signing with Man Utd isn’t the only factor that could swing a deal Ruben Amorim’s way.

In a second update, Plettenberg also claimed Tel harbours ambitions of becoming a legend at current club Bayern Munich.

To achieve that aim, a loan exit that results in Tel returning to Bayern at season’s end would be the only viable outcome.

And with Tottenham seeking a permanent deal and Man Utd ready to launch a loan bid, United appear to hold yet another advantage.

“Tel has been informed but he has not yet made a final decision on whether he will accept Spurs’ offer,” added Plettenberg.

“Additionally, he has yet to decide whether he prefers a permanent transfer or a loan. Especially since Tel has repeatedly stated publicly that he wants to become a legend at Bayern one day.”

One guarantee Tel is known to be seeking is regular playing time. Given the continued poor performances put in by Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, receiving regular minutes at Old Trafford should not be a problem.

Latest Man Utd news – Kobbie Mainoo position change?

In other news, Amorim has strongly hinted Kobbie Mainoo could now be utilised in one of the two No 10 roles behind the striker moving forwards.

Speaking after the 2-0 victory over FCSB – in which Mainoo bagged a goal and assist playing in a more advanced role – Amorim said: “I can understand better my players and put together the Kobbie position today. We need time to understand the players.

“He was struggling a lot defending as a midfielder. Now more as a No 10 you could feel that he was so free playing the ball near the box and near the box is really good, the small connections.

“So I need time, we need time to work with the players to understand what is the best position for them.”

Tottenham news: Offer prepared for former Spurs man who wants to come home

Tottenham are reportedly ready to offer a former player of theirs a route back to the club, in a move it’s believed he would welcome making.

Spurs have plainly had defensive struggles this season. In the Premier League, there are only five sides with worse defensive records than they have.

They have had injury problems which have hampered the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence.

That has left them light on reinforcements, and that injury problems hurt them last season suggests there are changes that should be made, and the club has one in mind.

As per TBRFootball, Tottenham are ready to offer their former right-back Kyle Walker-Peters a route back to north London.

The defender has six months left on his contract with Southampton, does not look like renewing and has recently turned down the chance to move to Galatasaray after they were willing to meet his £8million asking price.

But Spurs, looking to sign Walker-Peters on a free at the end of the season, should not meet the same issues, as it’s stated a return to the club would appeal to the defender.

Walker-Peters has levelled up since Spurs days

Walker-Peters played just 24 times for Spurs as a senior player before heading to Southampton.

He played more often (48 games) for the north London club’s under-21s side, after making his way through the academy.

But since his move away from Tottenham, he has become an important player for the Saints, appearing in nearly 200 games so far, as well as contributing to 18 goals.

Spurs need players who are not going to be sidelined often, and only in one season has Walker-Peters missed more than four games since moving from the club.

The defender also has an affinity to Tottenham that not a lot of the players have, with most being signed from other clubs, so they know he will fight in good times and bad.

Tottenham round-up: Tel signing agreed

Multiple sources have confirmed that Tottenham have struck an agreement with Bayern Munich to sign striker Mathys Tel.

Spurs are also said to be in contact over a move for AC Milan forward Noah Okafor, who has reportedly been offered to them.

TEAMtalk is aware that fellow forward Bryan Mbeumo, from Brentford, is also being eyed by the north London outfit.

Meanwhile, Yang Min-hyeok has joined Queens Park Rangers on loan until the end of the season.

Man Utd news: Red Devils 'hope' Tottenham striker move crumbles, with hijack plans aided by delay

Description

Manchester United reportedly hope that Mathys Tel will delay signing a contract with Tottenham, as they want to be given enough time to formulate an offer of their own.

Tel has been one of the most in-demand strikers in world football in recent weeks. Premier League big boys Tottenham, United and Chelsea are all among the sides who wanted him.

Spurs currently appear to have won that race, barring a big change.

Indeed, multiple sources have stated Bayern Munich have agreed to sell Tel to the north Londoners.

But personal terms are yet to be agreed, and it’s believed a hijack could still take place, with GIVEMESPORT supporting that notion.

After reporting that Tel is keen on heading to Old Trafford to work under Ruben Amorim, the site have stated that United are ‘hopeful’ the striker will hold out on committing to Spurs.

Indeed, they want to have enough time to put together their own offer and potentially land him for themselves.

DON’T MISS: Man Utd XI after dream end to January transfer window as Dorgu and world-class striker signed

Tel wants guaranteed minutes

It has become clear that Tel will look to the promise of game time as the determining factor on where he ends up.

At Bayern this season, the striker has played just 253 Bundesliga minutes, starting just twice.

At Tottenham, the absence of Dominic Solanke for weeks is likely to mean Tel would slot straight into the side.

While he might have the quality – after 10 goals and six assists last season – to push Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee aside at Manchester United, that the pair are present means he might not be fully convinced to make that move.

That said, it’s believed he already wants to, so if a United offer does come in, though it doesn’t seem sure from the outside that minutes would be guaranteed, the Manchester outfit could land the Bayern man.

Man Utd round-up: Garnacho bid coming

It is believed that a bid from Chelsea from Alejandro Garnacho could be imminent, with the Blues aware that can reach United’s asking price for the winger.

But Napoli have promised to lodge a new offer for the Argentine if that price is slightly lowered.

Marcus Rashford could also exit in January, with Juventus said to be intensifying their efforts to land him.

Barcelona could also still be in the race for the United man, as he remains on the radar while they await the potential sale of Ansu Fati.

Southampton news: Saints stamp feet on Dibling, Archer deals as Tottenham, Leeds learn fate of transfers

Southampton have made it clear to clubs that they will not sell the likes of Tyler Dibling or Cameron Archer halfway through the season, TEAMtalk can reveal.

Southampton look destined for the drop but like every club who ends up relegated they aim to be back in the Premier League at the first time of asking. However the club are not giving up hope and do not want to lose key players in this window.

There is much interest in a number of their players and the latest is Archer, who was the subject of a bid from Leeds United. Southampton swiftly turned down the offer and have made it clear to clubs that they will not sell halfway through the season and they must wait until the summers.

Tottenham have had a similar reaction when going for Dibling and been told they must wait until the summer to get their hands on him. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also want the 18-year old and his future will be away from St Mary’s.

Archer only joined the Saints in the summer transfer window, signing from Aston Villa for £15million. However sources have confirmed he is open to the move to Elland Road and is happy to wait until the summer.

Leeds have already seen a loan offer rejected for Archer and that is due to the Saints’ hopes of keeping him for at least the season and then reassessing his position in the summer.

The Whites are not done though and are expected to return with another offer. They do hold confidence they can get a deal over the line due to Archer’s willingness to make the move.

They hope it will force the hand of Southampton and make them sell the man that cost them £15million just six months ago. It will be a bid of just over this amount and Leeds hope it will be enough to land the 23-year-old.

Leeds round-up: Jack Harrison return chances revealed

Leeds reportedly have no plans to see Jack Harrison return to the club amid his loan to Everton, despite suggestions on the contrary.

It’s also believed the club are baffled by links to left-back Matt Targett, who will not be joining.

Their chances of landing Emiliano Buendia going forwards have taken a hit, as not only has he joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan, but they have the option to land the Aston Villa man permanently in the summer.

After Leeds interest of late, they seem likely to miss out on that move.

Tottenham in dreamland after £50m 'agreement' struck to sign world's most in

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Two separate sources have stated Tottenham have reached an agreement worth €60m/£50m to sign the most coveted striker on the market right now.

Tottenham and manager Ange Postecoglou are desperate for outfield reinforcements before the February 3 deadline. Spurs are putting the pieces in place to sign both Angel Gomes (Lille) and Tyler Dibling (Southampton), though both deals are expected to be delayed until the summer.

However, the report from The Telegraph that detailed that news also confirmed Tottenham do plan to sign an attacking player in the coming days.

A striker or winger is wanted amid injuries to the likes of Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert and Dominic Solanke.

One player who can play both positions to a high level is Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel who over the last 36 hours, has become the most in-demand player on the market.

Tel has informed Bayern he wishes to leave amid a lack of playing time. His lack of opportunities are simply down to the presence of Harry Kane who is unmoveable at the tip of Bayern’s attack and not a lack of ability.

Bayern have opened the door for Tel to leave, either on loan or in a permanent transfer. If Tel does depart in an outright sale, Bayern’s valuation of the 19-year-old is €60m/£50m.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Aston Villa are all exploring a move for Tel, while interest from mainland Europe is also rampant. A report earlier on Thursday claimed Tel actually favours a move to Man Utd.

However, Man Utd are as yet only willing to stretch as far as a loan deal. TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Fraser Fletcher, has been told Bayern’s preference is a deal with a permanent solution attached, be that a sale or a loan that contains an option/obligation to buy.

And according to two separate updates from French outlets Le Parisien and L’Equipe, Frenchman Tel is the subject of an agreement between Tottenham and Bayern Munich.

Le Parisien stated Spurs have ‘reached an agreement in principle with Bayern for 60 million euros.’

L’Equipe quickly provided an update of their own, declaring: ‘Bayern Munich and Tottenham have reached an agreement for the transfer of striker Mathys Tel for around €60 million.’

With a club-to-club agreement struck, all eyes are now on whether Tottenham can convince Tel to agree personal terms.

Positive sign for Mathys Tel to Tottenham

As mentioned, a key factor in Tel wanting out of Bayern is his craving for more regular minutes.

Tel was restricted to just 1,406 minutes of action across all competitions last season. But showcasing his quality and potency despite still being a teenager, Tel racked up 16 goal contributions at a ratio of a goal or assist once every 88 minutes.

We’ve been informed Tel will demand assurances over playing time before signing on the dotted line with his next club.

Given Tottenham’s struggles with injury this term – and the sub-par displays from the likes of Werner and Richarlison when fit – Spurs are willing to guarantee Tel regular starts.

The signs look positive for Spurs at present, though given the level of competition and the fact an agreement on personal terms isn’t yet in place, Postecoglou and co cannot celebrate just yet.

The onus is now on Spurs to wrap up a deal with all haste, with both Le Parisien and L’Equipe firing a word of warning when insisting Tel has not made a decision on who to join.

And with Tottenham making a breakthrough on the Bayern end, the expectation is rival suitors – of which there are many – will attempt to hijack the deal.

Mathys Tel: Tottenham in talks after Bayern’s stance on Man Utd move revealed

Tottenham are desperately trying to sign one of the best young players in Europe, with a report claiming that he is actually interested in a move to Manchester United as Chelsea also accelerate talks to stop him from moving to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium or Old Trafford.

TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher has consistently reported this month that Tottenham are keen on signing a new striker in the January transfer window. Despite Spurs having a woeful campaign, chairman Daniel Levy wants to back head coach Ange Postecoglou so that the north London club can have a better second half of the season.

Tottenham have identified Mathys Tel as a viable target before the window closes and are in talks over a deal for the Bayern Munich striker.

Described as “a very quick, technically strong and versatile striker” and “an exceptional young player” by former Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic, Tel wants to leave the German club to become a regular elsewhere.

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham are interested in a loan deal for the 19-year-old striker, but they are also willing to do a permanent transfer of the teenager.

Tottenham reportedly believe that Tel is interested in a switch to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and have accelerated talks over the past 24 hours after learning that a number of clubs, including Man Utd, are interested in him.

GiveMeSport has reported that Tel is “very keen” on a move to Man Utd and is eager to work under head coach Ruben Amorim.

Despite Man Utd’s interest in Tel, Tottenham reportedly believe that they have a good chance of landing the Bayern striker “because of their vision for him in the team”.

IN-DEPTH ➡️ Tottenham injuries: Who’s out and when they’re back amid Postecoglou sack talk

Chelsea in talks over Mathys Tel

Tel’s availability has alerted Chelsea as well, with the London club keen on making sure that the promising striker ends up at Stamford Bridge and not at Man Utd or Spurs.

TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher has reported that Chelsea are in “active conversations” for the France Under-21 international.

Tel’s main priority is to get regular playing time, and Chelsea are trying to convince him that under head coach Enzo Maresca, he will get chances.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Arsenal are also interested in Tel and are exploring a deal.

We understand that Tel has told Bayern that he wants to leave as he is frustrated at not getting the chances that he thinks he deserves.

While the German are ready to cut ties with Tel, they would prefer a permanent exit and not a dry loan.

Latest Tottenham news: Okafor contact, Gomes talks

While Tottenham are keen on Tel, the north London club are not putting all their eggs in one basket.

Spurs are looking at alternatives, and one of the players the Premier League club are showing interest in is AC Milan winger Noah Okafor.

Tottenham are already in contact with Serie A side Milan, who are ready to offload Okafor.

The 24-year-old Switzerland international himself is keen on a move away from San Siro in the January transfer window.

Tottenham are also trying to sign Angel Gomes. The England international midfielder is out of contract at Lille at the end of the season.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly involved in the negotiations and is keen on convincing Gomes to move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of his other suitors such as Man Utd and West Ham United.

Tottenham are even ready to make a bid for Gomes now, although, for the player, it would make sense to see out his contract at Lille and then look at his options as a free agent.

Spurs could also make a bid for Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki. Newcastle United are interested in the youngster as well, but there are reservations at St James’ Park over how he would fit into Eddie Howe’s team.

Tottenham transfers: Postecoglou hopes to wrap up window with outstanding triple deal amid 'big advantage' in Mathys Tel race

Description

Tottenham are looking to make a triple transfer breakthrough in the closing days of the transfer window having been strongly linked with moves for three players – and with a top source revealing why they can land Mathys Tel and with the Bayern Munich star’s preference also coming to light.

Ange Postecoglou has endured a difficult season so far with six losses in their last seven Premier League games seeing the club slide down the table to 15th, with just an eight-point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone. But while pressure has been heaped on Postecoglou’s shoulders as a result, there is plenty of internal sympathy at Tottenham for the situation the club finds themselves in and Daniel Levy and Co intend to fully back their manager for now.

As a result, efforts are being stepped up to strengthen their squad in the closing days of the window, with Yoane Wissa of Brentford, Southampton’s Tyler Dibling and Bayern Munich star Tel all in their sights.

TEAMtalk transfer insider Fraser Fletcher was the first to break the news of Tottenham’s interest in Tel on Wednesday, though competition for the Bayern Munich star is understood to be extremely tough with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United also chasing his signature.

Talk of a move to England, though, has gathered pace with the teenager making clear he wants to leave the German giants in pursuit of regular first-team football and having seemingly said his goodbyes to the Allianz Arena crowd in Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

Now according to the Daily Telegraph, Spurs have already secured themselves what’s described as a big advantage in the race for the 19-year-old’s signature having recently secured a strong relationship with Bayern following the sales of Harry Kane and more recently Eric Dier. As a result, it is indicated that Bayern may prefer to negotiate with them with Levy having already discussed a possible move for Tel when negotiating the sale of England captain Kane in summer 2023.

And with Spurs open to the possibility of either signing him on loan or a permanent basis, they could yet win the race for the impressive 22-goal forward.

Tottenham will need to convince Tel of move; Wissa & Dibling also wanted

As a result, and certainly, for the next 24 hours at least, much of the work at Tottenham will be on convincing the France U21 international to move to N17 and why the club’s position at the wrong end of the Premier League table is only a temporary blip.

However, it seems Spurs will have their work cut out to sign Tel, with in-the-know journalist Paul O’Keefe downplaying their chances of a deal and having revealed the striker prefers a move to Manchester United instead.

Whether United, though, will get the funds in place to secure a deal remains to be seen, with the Red Devils needing to offload one of either Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford before making a move of their own.

All the same, Spurs can strike, who hope their advantage with Bayern will stand them in good stead.

And there is certainly more than a bit of hope for Spurs following confirmation from our sources that the player has decided to move on before the window closes.

At the same time, Spurs are not simply resting on their laurels with just the one signing and are also stepping up their hunt to secure Dibling.

The teenager has enjoyed an impressive season despite Southampton’s struggles at the foot of the Premier League, proving their shining light in a thoroughly difficult season.

And while a January move looks difficult to pull off, Spurs hope to seal an agreement for his summer signing now to the tune of around £55m.

Per Foot Mercato, Spurs have also launched a surprise move for Brentford forward Wissa.

The DR Congo international has been in electric form this season, scoring 11 goals in 19 Premier League games and helping Thomas Frank’s side forget all about Ivan Toney, who moved to Saudi Arabia over the summer.

Postecoglou is reported to be attracted by Wissa’s ability to play either out wide or as a central striker – a valuable asset right now with all of Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner out injured.

Nottingham Forest have already seen a £22m offer for his services rejected by the Bees earlier this month and it is likely Spurs will need to offer significantly more than that if their London rivals are to accept.

Postecoglou has spoken of his side’s ambitions to strengthen in the final days of the window, though stopped short of naming targets.

“Traditionally the last few days of any window tend to be pretty frenetic. I expect us to be involved in that,” he said. “Does that mean anything will get concluded?

“I can’t commit to that (answer). I’m a bit of a distance from it but the information and dialogue I have is we’re exploring all the opportunities to see if we can bring some help in with the finances.”

Tottenham transfer latest: Milan star tracked, Rashford stance on Spurs

Tottenham were also linked with AC Milan winger Noah Okafor on Wednesday evening, though, the Swiss is understood to only be their backup option if a move for Tel fails to go through.

The winger has been cleared to leave the Rossoneri this month and came close to joining RB Leipzig earlier this window after they agreed a deal to bring him to Germany, only for the move to collapse after an issue cropped up, in his medical.

Whether he would pass one now remains to be seen, but the €25million (£20.9m / $26m) asking price would be well within reach if they did trigger that move.

Spurs have also been mentioned as a possible suitor for Marcus Rashford in the final days of the window. However, the unsettled Manchester United forward would be unlikely to opt for Tottenham as a destination this month, with the player’s preference very much focused on moving abroad.

Barcelona are the side who are the object of his desires, but with their finances tight, a last-gasp move to N17 has been talked up as a possibility with Rashford now said to have ‘one option left’

Meanwhile, Levy is reported to be working hard to convince England midfielder Angel Gomes to move to Spurs at the end of his Lille contract. The four-times capped star knows the Premier League having previously played for Man Utd and his free-transfer signing would be seen as a real coup.

IN FOCUS: Who is Mathys Tel?

Tel is a clinical finisher. The way he can get off shots so quickly with minimal backlift is so impressive.

As a finisher he doesn’t have any angle bias, he can get shots off on target even at the tightest angles and on his ‘weaker’ left foot. Tel’s ‘weak foot’ ability means he can take players on near the box on either foot and still shoot accurately. This only makes him more unpredictable and harder to mark.

The Frenchman’s ball striking is so impressive. Shooting from distance, he strikes the ball with so much power that it’s tough to stop his shots. Even when in a one-on-one he loves to smash shots in rather than place them but also does so accurately.

Tel loves to make runs in behind the defence, particularly between the opponent’s right-back and right-sided centre-back. It’s these areas as an inside forward where Tel shines as he explodes into space and powers a finish past the keeper.

Tel’s intelligent movement creates high-quality chances for himself and he just needs to play with someone who can consistently find him and he’ll score lots of goals. When playing as a striker he drifts to the left a lot so he can isolate defenders in 1v1 situations and beat them to cut inside on his right foot.

He’s a quick player but not lightning fast, he’s smart with where he runs though always looking to get through the defence.

One of his most impressive traits is his physical maturity. Tel has a compact frame with good physicality. When shoulder to shoulder with a defender he’s tough to muscle off the ball and shields the ball well with his body. Tel’s physicality means he’s got decent hold-up and back-to-goal play too as a striker.

Tel’s athleticism is impressive too. He’s really springy which allows him to escape challenges and get shots off quickly with a lot of power. But this power in his legs also gives Tel a good vertical jump to be an aerial threat too. He’s displayed good heading ability when the opportunity to has arisen.
