Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed three more exits behind the scenes after they made the controversial decision to sack trophy-winning boss Ange Postecoglou on Friday – a move that has sparked plenty of responses from some of the club’s top stars.

The north London club made the call to end the Australian’s tenure purely based off the club’s disastrous Premier League campaign that saw them finish just one place above the relegation zone.

Tottenham‘s move came just weeks after Postecoglou led the club to their first trophy win in 17 years, following Europa League success, with Brentford’s Thomas Frank now the No.1 option to take up the role.

But as the dust settles on a tumultuous 24 hours for the club, in which it’s also been reported chairman Daniel Levy is facing a player revolt over his decision, it’s emerged that three of Postecoglou’s coaching staff have also been shown the door.

There’s no Ryan Mason to take temporary charge, as he did when following the sackings of Jose Mourinho and Cristian Stellini, following his move to take charge at West Brom. And now, the Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law reports that Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo are all also moving on.

Montgomery and Raimundo only arrived at Spurs last season, while Jedinak was brought in by Postecoglou when he was appointed as the new Tottenham manager in 2023.

However, it appears that Matt Wells and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch wish to remain at the club and no decision will be made on their futures until after a new manager is appointed.

Tottenham players back sacked Postecoglou

One thing that never happened during his time at Tottenham was Postecoglou losing the dressing room, as had been evidenced by all the support he has received since his dismissal.

Indeed, as TEAMtalk have reported, the likes of Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Micky van de Ven have all taken the sacking particularly badly.

And now a number of them have come out publically to thank Postecoglou.

Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou, despite his recent Europa League triumph, and sources have exclusively revealed the reasons behind the decision to TEAMtalk.

Manchester United remain in pole position to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo this summer, although recent events at Tottenham Hotspur are being tipped to potentially throw a massive spanner in the works.

United began the bidding for the Cameroon international at £55million (€65m), though this was rejected as Brentford hold out for more than £60m (€71m) for their talismanic attacker.

It emerged earlier on Friday that United were ready to up the ante with a new Mbeumo offer, and that fresh proposal has now been sent.

Indeed, according to an update from ESPN, United have ‘upped their offer’ to over £60m. They are ‘pushing to get the deal done as quickly as possible’.

Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher that United are offering an initial payment of £50m plus at least £10m in add-ons.

However, breaking news on Friday evening of Tottenham sacking Ange Postecoglou and immediately turning to Brentford boss Thomas Frank as his replacement sparked rumours that Spurs are looking to make it a double raid on the Bees in a deal that also includes Mbeumo.

Indeed, a report in the Daily Express claims that there is a chance Frank could convince Mbeumo to snub United and move with him to north London instead.

Tottenham have also been long-term admirers of the Bees attacker, who tends to have a habit of scoring against them, and are known to have been considering making an offer of their own for the player anyway.

Potentially adding Frank as their new boss only adds to those links, although it remains to seen whether the Dane will indeed be the new man at the helm in north London – especially given that Brentford are likely to demand around £10m in compensation to allow him to walk away.

Mbeumo already said ‘yes’ to Man Utd

While the latest Tottenham links throw up some potential doubts over an Old Trafford switch, TEAMtalk transfer insider Fraser Fletcher has informed us that Mbeumo has already given United a ‘firm yes’ and that joining up with Ruben Amorim’s men remains his first choice at this stage.

Mbeumo is excited about the potential of playing under Amorim and being part of a new forward line that will also include recent £62.5m signing Matheus Cunha.

Quite where the Brentford man would line up in Amorim’s formation remains a slight mystery, given that the Portuguese tactician does not operate with out-and-out wingers.

Mbeumo can also operate through the middle, but it’s more likely that he starts as one of the two No.10s – one of which Amorim urges to float into wider positions to create space for others and create two-on-one scenarios for opposing full-backs.

All that remains now is for the Red Devils to agree on a fee with Brentford for the player, while also hoping that Frank does not convince Mbeumo to have a complete change of heart and remain in the capital instead.

TEAMtalk has learned that three Tottenham Hotspur players in particular will likely be livid over Daniel Levy’s decision to axe coach Ange Postecoglou, following the decision to call time on the Australian’s tenure on Friday evening.

Spurs took the decision to sack Postecoglou after their disastrous domestic campaign as they finished just one place above the relegation spots, although the 59-year-old did guide them to their first trophy in 17 years with Europa League glory last month.

In a statement, Tottenham said: “We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club.

“Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.

“However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place.”

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, has reported that Brentford boss Thomas Frank is the “number one candidate” to replace Postecoglou as the Tottenham manager.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Frank himself is open to leaving Brentford and has already held talks with the north London club.

However, we have also been told that the decision to axe Postecoglou is not a popular one with the players, given that the former Celtic boss had NOT lost the dressing room in any way.

Indeed, Fletcher has told us that three stars in particular will have been devastated by the manager’s exit, namely Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven and Dean Kulusevksi – who all ‘adored’ Postecoglou and will almost certainly be ‘livid’ with Levy’s call.

The Daily Telegraph even reports that Spurs could face a potential player revolt threat, such was the popularity of Postecoglou in the changing room.

Classy Postecoglou responds to Tottenham sack

The decision to call time on Postecoglou is set to cost Levy in the region of £5million in compensation, while luring Frank from Brentford as his replacement could end up being double that figure.

Postecoglou himself responded to the decision in a statement from his agency CAA Base, said: “When I reflect on my time as manager of Tottenham Hotspur, my overriding emotion is one of pride.

“The opportunity to lead one of England’s historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime.

“Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget.

“That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream.

“There were many challenges to overcome and plenty of noise that comes with trying to accomplish what many said was not possible.

“We have also laid foundations that mean this club should not have to wait 17 more years for their next success.

The 2024/25 campaign was a historic one for Tottenham. While the north London club ended up as low as 17th in the Premier League table, they won the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League next season. It was Tottenham’s first major trophy for 17 years.

However, it was always likely that Postecoglou would be sacked as the Tottenham boss due to their hugely disappointing Premier League campaign.

Tottenham have now announced the departure of the former Celtic manager in a lengthy statement on their official website.

The statement reads: “We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club.

“Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.

“However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place.

“Following a positive start in the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, we recorded 78 points from the last 66 PL games. This culminated in our worst-ever PL finish last season. At times there were extenuating circumstances – injuries and then a decision to prioritise our European campaign.

“Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club’s greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph.

“It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond.”

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has given his instant reaction to the sacking and believes that it is the right decision.

Agbonlahor wrote on X: “Deserved to be sacked Ange! Can’t lose 22 league games and keep ur job! Daniel levy learning from ten Haag situation!”

Former Celtic striker, Chris Sutton, though, is less impressed and has noted on X: “Spurs wanted a manager who could win them a major trophy… they get one and then sack him…”

Thomas Frank leading candidate to replace Postecoglou – sources

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, has reported that Brentford boss Thomas Frank is the “number one candidate” to replace Postecoglou as the Tottenham manager.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Frank himself is open to leaving Brentford and has already held talks with the north London club.

Tottenham view Frank as the ideal profile for their next manager because of his ability to build a relationship with players.

Sources have also told TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher that Spurs see the Danish boss as elite when it comes to his handling of the media and building on a budget.

TEAMtalk understands that the 51-year-old himself is seeking a new challenge.

Frank has a release clause of £8million in his contract at Brentford, and Tottenham would have to pay that in full to get a deal done.

However, as of now, Tottenham have not made contact with Brentford for Frank.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has also noted that Frank is the number one managerial target for Levy.

Plettenberg has written on X: “Ange #Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways – as expected and previously reported, now confirmed by Sky UK.

Tottenham have identified an alternative to Angel Gomes, according to a report.

A report has revealed that Tottenham are ready to make a move for an Atletico Madrid player.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan officials are in London to speak to Tottenham over a stunning swap deal.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly stepped up their plans to secure a major midfield signing after one of their top targets, Angel Gomes, decided against making a free-transfer switch to north London.

Midfield is expected to be a major focus of attention for Spurs this summer after their struggles to dominate games in the middle of the park this past season, despite Ange Postecoglou trying several different personnel groups to find the right balance.

Indeed, TEAMtalk has previously revealed four midfield targets that have been firmly on the club’s radar to resolve that issue this summer.

One of those targets has been Gomes, whose contract at French club Lille will run out at the end of the month, with the former Manchester United starlet heavily tipped for a return to England.

Tottenham and West Ham have been two clubs tracking the England international, who scored 10 goals and laid on 19 assists during his 134 appearances for Lille.

However, it’s now being reported that Gomes has snubbed a chance to return home and is poised to agree a free transfer switch to Marseille instead.

The move would see Gomes link up with former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi and leave Tottenham pushing ahead with their other targets – one of which is impressive Sporting star Morten Hjulmand.

The Portuguese giants are hoping to recoup a fee of around £50million for the 25-year-old Denmark international, a figure that will not be out of reach for Tottenham assuming they can offload some unwanted talent first.

All-action Hjulmand just what Tottenham need

Spurs are reportedly fans of Hjulmand’s versatility and his work rate, while the Dane almost exclusively plays in the defensive midfield pivot role where the north London club need a clear upgrade.

Yves Bissouma will almost certainly be moved on this summer after another hugely inconsistent campaign, while Archie Gray struggled to put his stamp on the team in that role when given chances towards the end of the season.

There are also doubts over the future of Rodrigo Bentancur, who has also filled in as a No.6 this term – hence the need for at least one new body in central midfield.

TEAMtalk can reveal that Hjulmand’s Premier League ambitions align with Spurs’ vision, although competition could be pretty fierce for his signature this summer.

Manchester United are also fans of the player, given the obvious Ruben Amorim links, with Hjulmand having scored seven goals and added six assists for Sporting in 96 total appearances for the club.

Other Spurs midfield targets include Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton and Real Betis standout Johnny Cardoso, although the latter appears more likely to join Atletico Madrid – despite a £21m deal already being in place for his signature.

Tottenham Hotspur are being tipped to make a move on LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid to sign a seasoned defender after reports continue to suggest that a top star could head back to Italy this summer.

Major changes are expected to a Spurs squad that struggled badly with injuries during the 2024/25 season and massively underperformed domestically, despite the Europa League win producing a welcome silver lining and a first trophy success in 17 years.

Doubts continue to rumble on over whether Ange Postecoglou will still be in charge come the start of the new campaign, but transfer business has already kicked into gear after Kevin Danso’s loan from Lens was turned into a permanent deal.

And now a fresh report has emerged detailing Tottenham‘s interest in signing experienced Atletico full-back Reinildo Mandava.

Speaking after victory in Europe, Postecoglou admitted that signing players with Champions League experience was an absolute must for a young Spurs squad – an admission that is warranted whether the Australian remains in charge or not.

Mandava certainly has that, having appeared in 26 UCL games for Diego Simeone’s men since joining them in 2022 from French outfit Lille and Africa Foot reports that Spurs are firmly in the race for his signature.

In total, the Mozambique international has featured 102 times for Atletico and while he nominally plays as a left-back, Mandava can also play on the right or centrally. The fact that he has that ‘Champions League experience’ though ticks a number of boxes, as Tottenham prepare for a return to Europe’s elite cup competition.

The defender is due to become a free agent at the end of this month, although Atletico have added a short extension so that he can feature in the Club World Cup before he then likely departs for nothing later this summer.

The report does add, however, that Tottenham are not the only interested suitors and that Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace also are also keen on the player.

Atletico star could be straight Udogie replacement

Mandava’s ability to play multiple defensive roles certainly makes him an attractive proposition, especially when left-back Destiny Udogie continues to be linked with a return to Serie A.

The Italy international, who has struggled with injury issues for the past two seasons, was in and out of Postecoglou’s side during the current campaign, with Djed Spence often preferred in the left-back role.

Indeed, Udogie has never really recaptured the stunning form he produced in the opening 10 games of the 2023/24 campaign, having been a €20million signing from Udinese back in 2022.

Recent reports from Corriere della Sera claims that AC Mian have targeted the 22-year-old as a replacement for Theo Hernandez at the San Siro.

The report adds that Milan’s new head coach Massimiliano Allegri and their new sporting director Igli Tare have identified the Tottenham man and Leeds United’s Junior Firpo as their top full-back targets for the summer.

Udogie has scored two goals and added four assists in 66 games for the club so far.

Inter Milan’s representatives are reportedly in London and plan to meet with Tottenham to discuss a swap deal which could see the clubs exchange defenders.

The Nerazzurri are pushing to appoint Como boss Cesc Fabregas as their new manager, following the departure of Simone Inzaghi, but are still working on transfer targets.

Inter are keen to get some transfer business done before the Club World Cup and are keen to sign Spurs centre-back Radu Dragusin, who thrived in Serie A with former club Genoa.

According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato, Inter’s bosses will meet with Tottenham to negotiate swapping defenders Dragusin and Yann Bisseck.

The report notes that Bisseck, 23, is wanted by several Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester United.

It’s claimed that Tottenham have been the most active club in the race for the once-capped German international, however, and Inter are willing to let him go after an inconsistent 2024/25.

Inter could ask for Dragusin to head the other way to fill the void, in a deal that could potentially benefit both clubs.

Tottenham interest in Inter Milan ace CONFIRMED

TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Rudy Galetti has led the way with his reporting on Bisseck, exclusively revealing Tottenham’s interest in the Inter centre-back on April 24.

And while there is rival Premier League interest in Bisseck, we understand that Aston Villa are not a club to watch. Instead, it is Everton, West Ham and Bournemouth who are also pursuing the German, per sources.

Inter will look to sign a replacement should Bisseck leave. Dragusin could indeed be an option, given his experience in Serie A, but so far, there has been no concrete indications of Tottenham being willing to let him go.

Spurs want to add to their defensive options to fill the void that’ll be left by Ben Davies, who is set to be released when his contract expires on June 30.

The expectation is that Bisseck will only leave Inter after the Club World Cup, so a departure is not as advanced as the Italian press are suggesting.

As Galetti revealed in a new, exclusive update for TEAMtalk on June 4, Inter are very interested in Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, and have shortlisted him as a leading target.

Liverpool are also keen on Guehi, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Inter may try for Dragusin should they miss out on the Palace captain.

Tottenham will sell captain Son Heung-min on one condition this summer, and where he’s expected to go if departing has been confirmed.

Son is unquestionably the greatest South Korean footballer of all time, likely the No 1 Asian footballer of all time, and ranks extremely highly amongst the finest to pull on a Tottenham shirt.

The forward sits fifth in the club’s all-time top scorers chart with 173 goals, behind only Harry Kane (280), Jimmy Greaves (268), Bobby Smith (208) and Martin Chivers (174).

He’s also the club’s all-time leading assister in the Premier League era with 77 despite not joining the club until the age of 23.

Son finally lifted his first major trophy in Spurs colours a fortnight ago when helping Tottenham defeat Manchester United in the final of the Europa League.

However, that may prove to be one of Son’s final appearances in a Tottenham shirt, with the club now open to cashing in.

That is according to the PA news agency whose report has since been picked up by multiple outlets including the BBC.

It’s claimed interest from the Saudi Pro League – which initially arose two summers ago – is ramping back up.

Spurs are well aware sizeable bids may be on the horizon and according to the report, they will agree to sell Son if ‘significant’ sums are put on the table.

How big of a bid is required to get the green light from Tottenham was not made clear.

Tottenham triggered a one-year extension in Son’s contract in January to cover the 2025/26 season. However, he is contracted no further than that and the current window may represent Tottenham’s best and final chance to generate a substantial fee.

There are other financial factors Tottenham must always consider when the idea of selling Son comes around.

His global commercial value to the club is ‘enormous’, according to The Independent, and for the third time in four years, Spurs will tour his home country of South Korea in pre-season.
