Tottenham transfer about to be hijacked as player decides who to join - TEAMtalk
Description

A major Tottenham sale that was practically agreed on the club-to-club side of things is about to be hijacked, and the player prefers to join the hijacking club, according to reports.

The headlines at Tottenham this summer have largely revolved around incomings. A combined £237m was spent on Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

Further big-money additions are being worked on, with Spurs aiming to sign a right winger (Savinho) and at least one more forward. Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson are in the club’s sights.

However, going slightly under the radar is the fact Tottenham are primed to offload one of their very best players – Cristian Romero.

The Argentine wants out and having banked Marcos Senesi and Van Hecke already, Spurs won’t stand in his way.

A move to Serie A champions Inter Milan looked on the cards, with transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, revealing a club-to-club agreement was practically sealed.

Taking to X two days ago, Romano wrote: ‘Inter are expected to make final decision soon on Cuti Romero deal.

‘No issues on agreement with Spurs on fee, Romero asks same salary he has at Tottenham.

‘Inter to decide soon as more clubs are keen on the Argentinian; exits could be key.’

However, there’s always been a sneaking suspicion Romero favoured a move to Spain, and more specifically one of LaLiga’s big three.

Atletico Madrid to hijack Inter Milan deal for Cristian Romero

And according to the latest from Marca as well as a fresh update from Romano, the Argentine centre-back could now link up with his fellow countryman, Diego Simeone, at Atletico Madrid.

Firstly, Marca declared Atleti are going ‘all out’ for Romero and are poised to launch their first official bid, which the report states will be worth €30m / £25.7m.

Crucially, Marca made a point of categorically stating Romero would much prefer to join Atleti over Inter.

Reporting on X soon after, Romano provided his own update. While much of the information was the same, he suggested Atleti’s upcoming bid will actually be worth €40m / £34.3m and not €30m / £25.7m as Marca claimed.

He wrote: ‘Atlético Madrid are preparing a bid for Cristian Romero to be submitted after next sales ([Nahuel] Molina + possibly [Matteo] Ruggeri).

‘Bid to be in line with Inter previous proposal; Inter had €40m package in place with Spurs but nothing done on player side.

‘Simeone wants Cuti, as @marca reports.’

Man City accelerate stunning raid on Big Six rivals that allows Tottenham to sign Savinho - TEAMtalk
Description

Manchester City are ramping up a raid on Chelsea that if completed, paves the way for Tottenham to sign Savinho.

Spurs are determined to sign Brazil international Savinho, who has already agreed personal terms with the north London club.

Savinho has been identified as the perfect player to slot in on the right side of Roberto De Zerbi’s attack. Club-to-club talks with Man City have been ongoing for some time.

However, City won’t give the green light to the winger’s sale until they’ve signed, or at the very least lined up, a replacement.

It’s a similar situation Tottenham are facing in their attempts to sign Cody Gakpo from Liverpool, with Spurs hoping the Reds make inroads with PSG for Bradley Barcola.

But according to the latest from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, City are now stepping up efforts to sign a new right winger.

Man City make ‘formal approach’ for Pedro Neto

Taking to X, he revealed Man City have initiated attempts to sign 26-year-old Pedro Neto from Chelsea.

‘EXCL: Manchester City make direct contact with Pedro Neto’s camp as talks start over possible move,’ wrote Romano.

‘Neto among #MCFC target if Savinho goes to Spurs while he’s also understood to be on Tottenham list as backup option. Deal also depends on Chelsea valuation. ‘

Romano subsequently went into further detail when reporting on this matter on his YouTube channel.

“Manchester City made a formal approach today to Pedro Neto’s representatives to explore the possibility of bringing the Portuguese winger to the club,” he explained.

“Enzo Maresca is a big factor in this deal because he knows Pedro Neto very well from their time together at Chelsea. He’s a player Maresca appreciates a lot.

“Manchester City are looking for a winger because there is a real possibility that Savinho leaves the club. Pedro Neto is considered an ideal opportunity and a player they rate very highly.

“This also depends on Chelsea’s valuation. Pedro Neto is not on Chelsea’s list of players for sale and remains part of Xabi Alonso’s plans.

“If Chelsea receive an important offer, then the situation could develop. Otherwise, he is not expected to leave.

“Contacts with his representatives are ongoing and the player could be open to the move. Everything now comes down to the financial negotiations.

“Pedro Neto is also one of the names discussed internally by Tottenham as a backup option.

“Tottenham’s first, second and third priority remains Savinho. I still believe Savinho has a very good chance of joining Tottenham before the end of the transfer window.

“If that deal does not happen, Pedro Neto could become an option for Spurs.”

Regarding cost, a recent, albeit not particularly reliable, report claimed Chelsea want £70m before considering Neto’s sale.

When signing the Portugal international from Wolves two summers ago, Chelsea paid a package totalling £53.9m.

Man Utd make decision on selling Benjamin Sesko after Tottenham launch bold enquiry - TEAMtalk
Description

Manchester United have made it crystal clear that Benjamin Sesko is not for sale after fending off interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer, TEAMtalk understands.

Sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed that Man Utd received a number of enquiries through intermediaries regarding the Slovenian international, but the club moved swiftly to shut down any prospect of negotiations.

Man Utd’s football department, led by Jason Wilcox, have been delighted with Sesko’s impact since Michael Carrick took charge, after they pushed hard to sign him last summer, and it had looked a struggle under then-boss Ruben Amorim.

But the 23-year-old ended last season in outstanding form, scoring seven goals in his final 13 appearances as he established himself in the Premier League.

His impressive finish to the campaign has only strengthened Man Utd’s belief that Sesko will be one of the cornerstones of their attack for years to come.

However, we do understand Man Utd remain in the market for another forward before the transfer window closes.

That pursuit is aimed at strengthening the squad around Sesko rather than replacing him, though with the club continuing to assess options as uncertainty remains over Joshua Zirkzee’s future.

Man Utd will not budge on Benjamin Sesko stance

Internally, Sesko is viewed as a key figure in Carrick’s long-term plans and someone capable of leading the line for the foreseeable future.

His performances have inevitably attracted attention across Europe.

Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Tottenham all made enquiries through intermediaries to establish whether there was any possibility of prising Sesko away from Old Trafford this summer.

Man Utd’s response was immediate and unequivocal.

Sources have confirmed the Premier League giants informed all interested parties they have absolutely no intention of entertaining offers for the striker and consider him untouchable in the current market.

There has also been no encouragement from the player’s side.

TEAMtalk understands Sesko has no desire to leave Manchester United and is thoroughly enjoying his football under Carrick and his coaching staff.

The Slovenian international believes he has found the ideal environment to continue his development and remains fully committed to helping United compete for major honours.

With both club and player aligned, Manchester United are confident Sesko will remain at Old Trafford despite growing admiration from across Europe, with Carrick viewing him as one of the central pieces of his project.

Tottenham: Spurs PULL OUT of transfer after 'outright rejection' with player deemed 'not good enough'

Tottenham pull out of transfer after outright rejection with player deemed not good enough - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have decided against signing Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic in a potential swap deal for Guglielmo Vicario, according to reports.

Spurs survived relegation on the final day of last season as Robert De Zerbi’s side beat Everton 1-0 to avoid the drop by just two points.

Tottenham have already brought in six new signings this summer with Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka all joining on free transfers, while Spurs have spent £237m on deals for Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Vicario played most of Tottenham’s matches last season but was dropped towards the end of the campaign, following their 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

His poor displays led to Antonin Kinsky finishing the season in net under Roberto De Zerbi, who has been well backed in the transfer market.

And Vicario has attracted a lot of interest from Italy, where he was born, with TEAMtalk transfer insider Fraser Fletcher revealing in July that both Juventus and Napoli are keen to bring the Italian international back to Serie A this summer.

Sources close to the player indicated at the time that Vicario is open to a return to Italy and expects to leave Spurs before the new season begins.

We also revealed that Tottenham are open to allowing the Italian to move on, while Juventus and Napoli have both made contact with the north London outfit.

It was reported recently that Napoli were willing to swap their goalkeeper, Milinkovic-Savic, for Vicario to keep the cost of the transfer down.

Tottenham ‘outright rejected any proposal’ including Milinkovic-Savic

But now Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) is insisting that Tottenham ‘outright rejected any proposal’ that included Milinkovic-Savic.

Spurs ‘snubbed the proposal’ as they simply ‘didn’t consider Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to be good enough for their new number one’ in north London.

Tottenham are looking to bring in cash this summer for Vicario but the other club interested in the goalkeeper, Juventus, have so far offered ‘a loan deal with an option to buy for around €15m’.

Over the weekend, Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti questioned why Tottenham want to sell Vicario when asked if they could be signing the Italian goalkeeper.

Spalletti said: “Vicario is an experienced and top-quality goalkeeper. We just need to understand why Spurs have decided to leave him out.”

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Monday that Vicario is a “concrete option” for Juventus, he said: “Now Vicario is a concrete option for Juventus from Tottenham, where he is not going to stay at the club.”

Tottenham deal for winger ‘agreed’ as De Zerbi targets £65m Chelsea star in double coup - TEAMtalk
Description

Fabrizio Romano has reaffirmed Tottenham have an agreement on personal terms with Savinho, while a separate report states Spurs are looking into a shock £65m raid on Chelsea.

Tottenham fully intend to make at least two major signings in the final third before the summer window slams shut. With the goalkeeper, defensive and midfield positions already addressed, work is now underway for impactful and readymade signings at the top end of the pitch.

Savinho is Tottenham’s No 1 target for the right wing, and one week ago, he informed Man City of his desire to leave the club.

During City’s recent pre-season friendly with Inter Milan in Hong Kong, Savinho made a gesture that certainly suggested he wants this move to happen.

Club-to-club talks have been ongoing for some time, and on Tuesday afternoon, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the state of play.

Savinho wants Tottenham transfer ASAP – Fabrizio Romano

‘Keep a close eye on Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham,’ began Romano. ‘They aren’t slowing down after locking in defence and midfield upgrades – now their attack needs a total makeover.

‘The top target out wide is Savinho, who has already put in a transfer request at Manchester City and wants to join De Zerbi in London ASAP.

‘Negotiations are underway, but the clubs are still pretty far apart on price, even though Savinho already has personal terms agreed with Spurs.’

Prior reports have stated City are looking for around £60m in their discussions with Tottenham.

On Tuesday morning, The Athletic stated City want a replacement for Savinho signed, or at the very least lined up, before giving final approval for the winger to join Spurs.

Another wide man on Spurs’ radar is Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, though his potential signing looks a more difficult undertaking.

Romano continued: ‘And Spurs aren’t stopping at one – they want two wingers. Cody Gakpo is right at the top of their wishlist.

‘Tottenham is waiting to see if Liverpool will even entertain letting him go. Right now, it’s a tough deal to pull off, but the interest is 100% real while everyone waits on the Reds’ stance.’

TEAMtalk understands Liverpool have no desire to sell Gakpo this summer, while The Athletic stated the Reds are more concerned with adding and not subtracting from their wide options.

With the Gakpo move looking unlikely, the latest from The Daily Mail suggests Spurs could pull the plug and move for a different profile of forward in the form of Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.

DON’T MISS: Roberto De Zerbi reaches decision on Lucas Bergvall exit as Tottenham shift transfer stance

Tottenham considering signing £65m-rated Nicolas Jackson

They stated: ‘Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

‘There has been no formal approach to open club-to-club talks as of yet, it is understood, but sources have confirmed to Daily Mail Sport that Spurs currently have the 25-year-old Senegalese under consideration.’

Chelsea are understood to want £65m if selling Jackson this summer, and with six strikers now on the books after Danny Welbeck arrived, Jackson is a player they’re happy to offload.

What’s more, The Mail stated Jackson too is willing to part ways if he’s joining a club where he’ll play more frequently.

He spent last season loaned to Bayern Munich, though for a Harry Kane-shaped reason, spent most of the loan rooted to the bench.

Tottenham news: De Zerbi reaches decision on Lucas Bergvall exit as new transfer stance emerges

Roberto De Zerbi reaches decision on Lucas Bergvall exit as Tottenham shift transfer stance - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have cooled talks over a potential departure for Lucas Bergvall after head coach Roberto De Zerbi made it clear he wants the Swedish teenager to remain in north London, TEAMtalk understands.

The 20-year-old has been one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe this summer, with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United both submitting offers, while Brighton & Hove Albion are also prepared to compete for his signature.

We understand Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid are also among a host of clubs monitoring the situation and would be willing to move should Bergvall become available.

Interest intensified after Bergvall informed Tottenham earlier this summer that he believed the best step for his development would be to leave the club in search of regular first-team football.

Spurs were initially reluctant to sanction a sale but accepted that discussions could take place if their valuation of at least £60million was met.

However, the situation has shifted significantly behind the scenes.

Sources have confirmed that throughout the process De Zerbi has repeatedly told Tottenham’s hierarchy that selling Bergvall would be the wrong decision.

The Italian has quickly established himself as a key voice in the club’s recruitment strategy and squad planning, with chairman Daniel Levy and the football department placing significant weight on his views.

De Zerbi promise made to Lucas Bergvall

TEAMtalk understands De Zerbi has held lengthy conversations with Bergvall, acknowledging the midfielder’s concerns about his pathway into the first team following Tottenham’s recent investment in midfield.

The arrivals of Conor Gallagher, Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes have inevitably increased competition for places, but De Zerbi has assured the Sweden international that he remains a major part of his long-term plans.

Sources believe the Spurs boss has asked Bergvall to commit to the project until at least January, insisting he will receive opportunities to prove himself during the first half of the season.

That message appears to have had an impact.

We understand Bergvall is now carefully considering his options, while Tottenham’s hierarchy are increasingly prepared to follow De Zerbi’s recommendation and remove him from the market.

Although interest from England and across Europe remains strong, Spurs have now stepped back from discussions with interested clubs as they reassess the teenager’s future.

Sources have told us that De Zerbi’s priority is keeping Bergvall at the club, but he is also pragmatic.

Should the Sweden international ultimately make it clear that he still wants to leave despite the assurances he has received, the Italian would be prepared to revisit the situation.

However, De Zerbi has stressed internally that any decision must be in Tottenham’s best interests and that the club should not sanction a sale unless they are completely satisfied with both the sporting and financial outcome.

Liverpool, Man City reach same decision on selling Gakpo, Savinho to Tottenham

Liverpool, Man City reach same decision on selling Gakpo, Savinho to Tottenham - TEAMtalk
Description

Liverpool and Manchester City have both adopted the same stance on whether or not to sell their respective wingers, Cody Gakpo and Savinho, to Tottenham.

With additions already made at goalkeeper, in defence and in midfield, Tottenham’s primary aim in the final month of the summer transfer window is signing readymade attackers.

Savinho, 22, is the player Spurs and Roberto De Zerbi have earmarked as the perfect player to slot straight into their starting eleven on the right wing.

The Brazilian has already informed Man City of his desire to change clubs this summer, and he’s open to joining Spurs. During a recent pre-season friendly in Hong Kong, Savinho gave a gesture Tottenham fans will love.

Club-to-club talks regarding the transfer fee and deal structure have been ongoing for some time. Reports state if a deal is struck, it’ll be worth approximately £60m.

On the left, Tottenham were less than 24 hours away from bidding for Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi before he suffered a fractured metatarsal.

With Kroupi undergoing surgery to repair the fracture, Tottenham have fixed their gaze on Liverpool’s Gakpo instead.

Like Savinho, Gakpo is open to joining Spurs this summer. The Dutchman harbours fears he’ll lose the undroppable status he enjoyed under Arne Slot now Andoni Iraola is in town.

Talks between the 27-year-old’s camp and Tottenham have been described by sources as ‘positive’, though as yet, club-to-club talks with Liverpool are yet to open.

Now, fresh reports from Sky Sports and The Athletic have shed light on if either of these deals will get done.

Latest on Cody Gakpo, Savinho to Tottenham

It appears to be a case of Tottenham needing to remain patient, with both Liverpool and Man City insisting they want a replacement signed, or at the very least lined up, before letting their respective wingers join Spurs.

Sky Sports stated with regards to Gakpo: ‘Liverpool would not be willing to let Gakpo depart without having a replacement through the door.’

That report did go on to suggest Liverpool could view Bradley Barcola as Gakpo’s replacement, meaning Spurs now have a vested interest in what happens with the PSG ace.

On Tuesday morning, The Athletic on multiple occasions stressed Liverpool do not want to sell Gakpo this summer.

Nevertheless, they hinted there is scope for that stance softening, with the report claiming Liverpool ‘would judge his value relative to other deals this summer.’

AnfieldWatch recently claimed Liverpool’s asking price for Gakpo is £72m after seeing Anthony Gordon join Barcelona for £69m.

On Savinho, The Athletic stated: ‘The two clubs have maintained contact regarding the player, but City would want to secure a replacement before considering a sale.’

In a more positive follow-on, the report noted Spurs ‘are confident of completing a move for long-term target Savinho from Manchester City.’

Savinho certainly looks like the more gettable player for Spurs of the two, though as mentioned, both deals will only be possible if the selling club brings in a new winger first.

Liverpool set condition for Tottenham to sign Cody Gakpo in super expensive deal

Liverpool set condition for Tottenham to sign Cody Gakpo in super expensive deal - TEAMtalk
Description

There is one way in which Liverpool will sell Cody Gakpo to Tottenham, aside from Spurs matching the Reds’ eye-watering valuation, of course.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham are in the market for big-money signings in the wing positions this summer.

The Reds have already banked Victor Munoz, though realistically, he should be the lowest profile of those that arrive at Anfield when all is said and done.

Tottenham are attempting to convince Manchester City to sell Savinho, who has already given the green light to joining Spurs.

Savinho would line up on the right flank, with Roberto De Zerbi also intending to sign a right-footer who can play on the left and also provide cover up front.

That’s where Cody Gakpo comes in, with the Dutchman now atop Tottenham’s shortlist for the left side after Eli Junior Kroupi suffered a fractured metatarsal that has required surgery to repair.

Our insider, Graeme Bailey, recently brought news of Gakpo not only being willing to leave Liverpool this summer, but also being willing to join Spurs.

The 27-year-old fears he’ll lose his starting spot sooner rather than later under Andoni Iraola, who isn’t expected to be as generous with the starts as former boss Arne Slot was.

Bailey also revealed Gakpo and his camp have already held what sources described as ‘positive’ talks with Tottenham officials.

Predictably, Liverpool don’t want to sell Gakpo despite the winger’s sub-par season last term.

Gakpo is Liverpool’s second most experienced forward behind only Federico Chiesa, and his ability to play up front will come in handy in the early phases of the season.

Alexander Isak will play up top when available, but with Hugo Ekitike sidelined for the long haul while recovering from a ruptured Achilles, Gakpo might find himself playing centrally more than even he would expect.

Liverpool could sell Cody Gakpo if this happens…

But according to a fresh update from Sky Sports, there is a way in which Liverpool would open the doors to Gakpo’s sale.

Aside from Tottenham meeting their valuation – more on that soon – it’s claimed Liverpool will insist on signing a replacement first.

The report stated: ‘Liverpool would not be willing to let Gakpo depart without having a replacement through the door.’

Sky Sports then hinted Bradley Barcola could be considered Gakpo’s replacement, meaning Tottenham fans hoping to see their side sign Gakpo will be secretly hoping Liverpool land Barcola.

If Liverpool were to conclude their business out wide after signing Barcola and selling Gakpo, their wing options next season would consist of Barcola, Chiesa, Munoz and Rio Ngumoha.

Of course, a hefty transfer fee must also be put on the table, with Sky Sports adding: ‘The Netherlands international also has four years left on his deal and would not come cheaply.’

HAVE YOU SEEN: Fabrizio Romano reveals major new development in Bradley Barcola transfer to Liverpool

A recent report from AnfieldWatch claimed Liverpool have slapped a £72m asking price on Gakpo after using Anthony Gordon’s £69m switch to Barcelona as a guide.

If looking at last season in isolation, you’d be hard pressed to justify Gakpo being worth £72m.

But players who are in their prime, have positional flexibility, and boast extensive Premier League experience are never likely to move for small fees.

Fabrizio Romano confirms high profile Tottenham transfer is essentially done - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham have practically wrapped up a club-to-club agreement for one of their biggest moves of the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham have spent lavishly so far this summer, with a combined £237m forked out on the triple signing of Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

Further big-money moves are on the agenda, with Spurs fully intending to sign a right winger and either a left winger or striker.

Savinho is the player identified to slot in on the right side, and talks with Manchester City regarding a deal projected to be worth around £60m are ongoing.

With Tottenham’s total spend primed to rise as high as £350m if two forwards are banked, a handful of lucrative exits are planned.

Perhaps the highest profile player to leave Spurs this summer will be Cristian Romero.

The Argentine wants out of Tottenham and the club aren’t standing in his way.

Romero has been the subject of concrete interest from Serie A champions Inter Milan, and according to the latest from Fabrizio Romano, a club-to-club agreement is practically a sure thing.

With Romero not asking for a pay rise either, transfer guru Romano revealed it’s now up to Inter to follow through with this move or pull the plug.

“I think we have to be attentive to the situation of Cuti Romero,” declared Romano. “Because Inter are on it, and there are more clubs keen.

“I think there could be movement around Romero in the next days, eventually weeks, but for sure around Romero there is movement, and I still expect him to leave Tottenham in this summer transfer window.”

Loan exit of highly-rated Tottenham star to Bundesliga gathers momentum - TEAMtalk
Description

Mikey Moore, the 18-year-old Tottenham Hotspur winger, is on the verge of a loan move to Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln, with sources telling TEAMtalk that talks are progressing positively.

The England youth international starred on a season-long loan at Rangers during the 2025/26 campaign. He scored seven goals and provided four assists in the Scottish Premiership, won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award and Rangers’ own Young Player honour, and became a firm favourite with the Ibrox support. They would love him back but Spurs want him in a top-five European league.

Moore returned to Spurs for pre-season under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi and has featured in friendlies, including during the club’s tour of Australia and New Zealand.

However, with Tottenham planning further attacking reinforcements, the teenager is expected to spend another season away from the first team to continue his development.

Köln have submitted an official bid for Moore, who’d join on loan. Negotiations are at an advanced stage and a deal could be completed as early as this week. Moore is understood to be keen on the move to the Bundesliga club, who finished 14th last season. Köln are now regarded as clear favourites among several interested sides.

Köln beating multiple sides for Moore

German sources, have corroborated that talks are progressing well and that the player favours a switch to the RheinEnergieStadion. The proposed loan does not appear to include a buy option and Spurs are not keen to have one included.

Interest had previously been noted from clubs including Middlesbrough, who remain in contact should the Köln move falter and other European sides such as Borussia Dortmund, while Rangers fans had hoped for a return to Ibrox. Those hopes now appear to have faded as the Köln option gathers momentum.

Moore, who signed a long-term contract with Tottenham on his 18th birthday in August 2025, remains highly regarded at Spurs as one of the club’s brightest academy products. A temporary move to the Bundesliga would give him regular top-flight football in a competitive environment while keeping him under the parent club’s long-term plans.
