Tottenham choose 'dream' next manager as Tudor sack bombshells dropped by Romano, Ornstein - TEAMtalk
Description

The writing is on the wall for Igor Tudor who won’t see out the season at Tottenham, and Spurs have chosen their ‘dream’ next manager, but convincing him to join is another matter entirely.

Tudor has overseen the worst start by any Tottenham manager ever, with four defeats from four so far. His spell has extended the club’s losing streak to six games, which is the worst in Spurs’ 143-year history.

With the players not buying what he’s selling and the fans disconsolate, Tottenham are only going one way under the Croatian and that’s down into the Championship.

The BBC recently revealed Tottenham owners ENIC are reluctant to intervene, and instead will leave the decision on whether to make another mid-season managerial change to chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, and sporting director, Johan Lange.

Nevertheless, TEAMtalk have consistently reported on Tottenham drawing up a list of candidates headed by Robbie Keane who they believe could step in on short notice and guide the club to safety.

The latest from David Ornstein has echoed our reporting, with the trusted journalist confirming Spurs are ‘actively working on options to replace Igor Tudor as head coach if they decide another change is needed in the dugout.’

What’s more, transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, insisted Tudor’s position is now in “serious, serious” danger.

“He remains at serious, serious risk,” confirmed Romano on his YouTube channel. “Igor Tudor’s position is not safe at all.”

Tudor will be in the dugout for Tottenham’s trip to Anfield on Sunday, But with so many players missing and confidence levels on the floor, anything except a heavy defeat would be a miracle.

A predictable loss to Liverpool is expected to be the final straw, and according to Romano, Tottenham have identified their absolute priority and ‘dream’ candidate to take the reins.

“If there is a dream candidate for Tottenham now, it’s Roberto De Zerbi,” declared Romano. “He’s seen as the ideal candidate for the Tottenham job.”

“Tottenham would love to hire De Zerbi, but at the moment, this depends on several things and it’s not easy.”

“But the name of De Zerbi is a name we should always keep in the dream targets for Tottenham as manager.”

De Zerbi is readily available to hire after leaving Marseille in February. However, taking to X, Romano claimed the Italian’s appointment – at least regarding a mid-season change – is viewed as ‘unlikely’.

Any move for De Zerbi would see the Italian given a long-term contract. It would not be a case of hiring the Italian until the end of the season and then discussing a new deal in the summer.

But for obvious reasons, De Zerbi would want assurances over Tottenham’s Premier League status before signing on the dotted line.

As such, the likeliest scenario right now appears to be Tottenham sack Tudor after the Liverpool game on Sunday, hire an interim until the end of the season, then attempt to appoint De Zerbi in the summer if they’ve remained in the Premier League.

Romano went on to state the other big name Spurs would love to hire is Mauricio Pochettino, though he’s obviously not a candidate to step in right now given he’s preparing for a World Cup on home soil with the USA.

'Player sales' admission leaves Tottenham fans in panic mode as Venkatesham criticises Levy - TEAMtalk
Description

Tottenham chief executive Vinai Venkatesham delivered some deeply concerning news about the club’s potential transfer dealings this summer, while also firing some clear shots at former chairman Daniel Levy’s running of the club during a meeting with the Fan Advisory Board.

Venkatesham, who moved to Spurs last April after 14 years at bitter rivals Arsenal, implied that under Levy’s stewardship the club had not prioritised on-field success and that, worringly, player sales may well have to be prioritised going forward.

The current Tottenham supremo, who became the figurehead of the club after Levy surprisingly walked away last September after 25 years at the helm, also admitted “significant change” was needed following an internal review of both the men’s and women’s teams.

Levy was accused of prioritising the business side of the club over on-pitch success, although he did finally deliver their first trophy since 2008 after success in the Europa League final against Man Utd last May.

However, after a bright start to Thomas Frank’s tenure, it’s been a disastrous campaign domestically for Spurs, who are staring relegation firmly in the face as they sit just one point above the relegation zone, having not won a top-flight game in 2026.

The Fan Advisory Board highlighted a lack of trust from supporters regarding the club’s direction, while the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) called for “emergency action” following the Champions League hammering at Atletico Madrid in midweek – a match that marked interim boss Igor Tudor’s fourth defeat in his four games in charge.

But in a move to try and reassure supporters that the club are trying to build in the right direction, Venkatesham suggested that he has removed the club’s previous wage structure, adding that “there is now complete clarity across the club that on-pitch success is our number one priority and focus”.

The minutes, published by Tottenham, read: “VV [Venkatesham] explained that since joining the club in June 2025, there has been a comprehensive review of the organisation to determine the issues and actions required.

“He explained that whilst he had a perspective of the club from the outside, it is only after spending time inside the club you can fully understand strengths, areas to improve and remedial actions needed.

“While the club has made strong progress in areas such as the stadium, training facilities, commercial growth and stadium operations, several areas were identified as falling short of what is required to compete at the highest level.”

Vinai hints at major Tottenham player sales

Among the issues highlighted by Venkatesham, wage structure and a player transaction approach that had impacted competitiveness in the transfer market were major acknowledgements.

Speaking about the club’s finances, he then added that Tottenham need to plan for ensuring that they do not fall foul of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, with accounts revealing four consecutive years when the club have recorded losses.

“VV noted that the club has been loss-making for a number of years, which means compliance with Financial Fair Play rules need to be actively monitored and planned for,” the minutes read.

“An increased emphasis will therefore be placed on player sales alongside continued revenue growth to ensure we have the regulatory headroom to invest.”

Despite his clear criticism of Levy’s tenure, Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange have also come fire over the disastrous appointment of Tudor, along with their lack of response to sacking him after the Croatian became the first manager in the club’s history to lose his first four games in charge.

Spurs head to Liverpool this weekend looking to break that winless streak, but might be missing two more players after the club revealed that Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha are in concussion protocol after their nasty clash of heads towards the end of the Atletico mauling.

Tottenham torn in knots over Robbie Keane approach as three-way battle for Irishman heats up - Exclusive - TEAMtalk
Description

TEAMtalk can reveal that a three-way battle to secure the appointment of Robbie Keane is beginning to gather pace, though the Irishman is in no hurry to decide as he waits on a possible call over the Tottenham Hotspur job.

Keane, the former Tottenham and Republic of Ireland talisman, has emerged as one of the most talked-about names in managerial circles this spring. Currently enjoying success as head coach of Hungarian champions Ferencvaros, where he has secured league titles and impressed with his attacking approach, the 45-year-old is attracting serious interest from three clubs seeking fresh leadership ahead of next season.

At Spurs, Keane is firmly on the radar as a potential long-term successor to struggling interim boss Igor Tudor.

The Croatian was appointed until the end of the 25/26 campaign following a turbulent period, but recent results have become significantly worse under his tenure and have left Spurs contemplating another change in the dug-out.

As we revealed, however, earlier this week, Spurs will not pull the plug on Tudor just yet, though the tide is very much turning against him among their hierarchy and a failure to get any sort of result against champions Liverpool on Sunday could have catastrophic consequences.

Keane’s deep ties to the club (he netted over 120 goals across two spells) make him an appealing candidate who understands the club’s culture and fanbase. There is also a growing belief that he could prove a significantly safer pair of hands than Tudor, who has struggled to stem the downturn in fortunes and has lost a woeful four successive matches since taking on the job.

However, Daniel Levy, who is still advising the club and remains a major shareholder, is, alongside the board, weighing multiple options, including more experienced European names, ensuring no decision is rushed.

Keane has previously expressed interest in the role, but only on a full-time basis, not as an interim.

And while he has no qualms about taking on the role if the club drops into the Championship, Spurs do still have their eyes on more ambitious targets, including both Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi.

However, a failure to move for Keane now could ultimately see Spurs missing out on that Irishman, with two other sides making their interest clear in his appointment…

Crystal Palace and Celtic both target Robbie Keane

In addition to Spurs, South London side Crystal Palace have also shortlisted Keane to replace Oliver Glasner.

The Austrian manager – out of contract at the season’s end – has already confirmed his departure from Selhurst Park at the end of the season, amid frustrations over transfer decisions and a dip in form.

Palace value Keane’s motivational qualities and Premier League pedigree, seeing him as a bold appointment capable of energising their squad and pushing for consistent top-flight progress.

Perhaps the strongest pull, though, comes from Celtic, where we revealed in February that Keane is widely regarded as the frontrunner for the permanent position.

With interim manager Martin O’Neill’s stint set to conclude this summer following a chaotic period, Celtic’s hierarchy has set their sights on Keane.

His boyhood affinity for the Hoops, combined with proven success at Ferencvaros and Maccabi Tel Aviv, positions him ideally for a return to Parkhead. Insiders suggest he tops a three-man shortlist.

Keane’s rise from player to sought-after coach highlights his growing reputation for results and charisma. As clubs finalise summer plans amid uncertainty, his next chapter could see him return to familiar surroundings or embark on a fresh Premier League adventure.

Next Tottenham manager latest: Hero open to job; Rooney dissuades Keane

Despite persistent links to Keane, Wayne Rooney has advised the Irishman to think twice about becoming the next Spurs manager, and has suggested who he thinks would be a perfect option to galvanise the club and ensure they don’t suffer the dreaded drop.

Elsewhere, Spurs’ dreams of bringing Pochettino home face a new threat after it was reported that an elite European side had made the Argentine their top pick as a new manager by an ambitious president.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham striker Jurgen Klinsmann has revealed he would be open to the Spurs challenge and has vowed to make them a “nasty, ugly” bunch to stave off relegation.

On the transfer front, sources have told TEAMtalk that Spurs are ready to reignite their interest in a top PSG talent, although they are not alone, and any deal would be, of course, subject to the club retaining their Premier League status.

Tottenham: Spurs hero promises 'nasty, ugly' football after emerging as shock candidate to replace Igor Tudor - TEAMtalk
Description

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jurgen Klinsmann says he would be open to the Spurs challenge as a shock replacement for Igor Tudor and has vowed to make them a “nasty, ugly” bunch in a bid to stave off the threat of relegation.

Tudor oversaw his fourth defeat in four as Tottenham boss on Tuesday as Atletico Madrid put them to the sword in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie to run out 5-2 winners.

Three consecutive defeats in the Premier League leaves them just one point above the relegation zone ahead of their trip to play Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Robbie Keane has been heavily linked with a return to Spurs and Sean Dyche is also in the frame as an interim appointment, but Klinsmann – who is out of a job after being sacked by South Korea in February 2024 – has now thrown his hat in the ring as a shock alternative.

He told ESPN: “Who wouldn’t want the job? It is Tottenham.

“Whoever you choose, you need a person who can connect to everyone emotionally, that knows the club, that feels the club, that feels the people.

“Because, to get out of this mess, they need to develop a fighting spirit, a really nasty, ugly, fighting spirit and that goes only over the emotions.

“So you don’t need to have to bring in the mastermind of tactical stuff or whatever, you need to have somebody who gets everybody onboard and go and get these games done in a positive way and get everybody behind the fact that they are in danger of going down to the Championship.”

A managerial CV to inspire little confidence

Although Klinsmann would represent something a ‘vibes appointment’ having earned hero status at White Hart Lane across two spells, scoring 38 goals in 68 games for the north London club, and many Spurs fans will be fully on board with his promise to improve their “fighting spirit”, his is not a managerial CV that will inspire too much confidence.

His last club role saw him resign after just ten games in charge of Hertha Berlin in the 2019/20 season and before that his only other experience at club level was as Bayern Munich boss all the way back in 2009.

He was sacked by the Bundesliga giants after less than a season on the back o a 5-1 Champions League hammering at the hands of Barcelona.

His longest stint as a manager was as USMNT boss when he oversaw 98 games, but that ended nearly a decade ago and is no preparation for a relegation dogfight in any case.

Tottenham latest: Keane issues; double manager setback

TEAMtalk understand that while Keane is keen on the permanent role at Spurs regardless of whether that’s in the Premier League or Championship next season, Tottenham are only open to a short-term contract until the end of the current campaign as they have alternative targets in mind should they avoid the drop.

Insiders indicate that Keane isn’t willing to leave Ferencvaros for an interim position.

Sources close to the club have downplayed links to Dyche, though it has been suggested that the former Everton boss, who was sacked by Nottingham Forest only last month, is still in the frame if Tottenham struggle to attract an alternative.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ dreams of bringing Pochettino back to the club have been threatened by a report claiming an elite European side had made the Argentine their top pick as a new manager by an ambitious president.

Wayne Rooney deflates Robbie Keane to Tottenham claims with best option to replace Igor Tudor named - TEAMtalk
Description

Wayne Rooney has advised Robbie Keane to think twice about abandoning his cushy managerial role with Ferencvaros to take on the uncertainty of the Tottenham Hotspur job, and with TEAMtalk sources explaining in detail the issues the club faces on sacking Igor Tudor and landing a replacement.

Tottenham are officially in the worst run of form in their history; six successive defeats, pushing them into the depths of the relegation dogfight and simultaneously putting their 49-year status as a top-flight ever-present in serious jeopardy.

Brought in to lift spirits and help Spurs pull clear of danger, the appointment of Tudor has, in fact, had the opposite effect, leading to four successive losses under his tenure and putting the Croatian interim now in serious danger of the sack himself.

The nadir came in Spain on Tuesday evening when an out-of-sorts and woefully short on confidence, Spurs were beaten 5-2 by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last-16 first leg. Incredibly, they were 4-0 down after 22 minutes, a Champions League record.

Indeed, in the wake of that loss, sources revealed the club’s board held extensive talks over the future of Tudor and the club’s perilous state.

And despite serious reservations over his management, it seems he will carry on for now; at least until Sunday’s clash with Liverpool is out of the way.

One name strongly linked with taking on the role and replacing Tudor is former Spurs striker Keane, who has made a big name for himself on the continent with successful stints with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros.

Discussing the Spurs job, Ian Wright suggested on The Overlap that the troubled north London side should move for Keane as soon as possible.

“You know something, I think Tottenham, what are they waiting for now? You know what I’d do? I’d bring in Robbie Keane.”

However, Rooney is adamant that Keane would be making a major mistake taking on the job, having explained why the timing is not right and urging them to move for another interim boss.

“I think they’ll go down. That’s why I was saying, if I were Robbie Keane now, I wouldn’t go in. If I were Robbie Keane, I wouldn’t leave a job to go to Tottenham now,” Rooney said.

“If you’re Sherwood or whoever is out of a job, I’d go in. But if I were Robbie Keane, there’s no way I’d leave a job to go to Tottenham.”

GO DEEPER: Ange Postecoglou absolutely nails Igor Tudor’s problem at Tottenham as he drops two-word response to replacing him

Tottenham have major Robbie Keane dilemma and what about Sean Dyche?

For what it is worth, and amid the turmoil the Tudor reign has brought to Spurs, Keane is seen as a very viable candidate.

However, there is a problem…

And we understand that, while the former Tottenham striker is eager to step up to a permanent position at Spurs and is very much open to a permanent appointment back at N17, regardless of what division Spurs find themselves in next season, the club are not willing to give him the permanent deal he craves and would leave Hungary for.

However, and herein lies the problem: Insiders indicate Keane would want a long-term contract to commit fully, though Spurs would prefer, at this stage, to only offer Keane a deal until the season’s end.

Should they preserve their Premier League status, the club would have more ambitious managerial targets in mind.

Furthermore, Keane isn’t short of suitors, either. Celtic, where he features prominently on their managerial shortlist, represents a tempting alternative, potentially luring him back to his Irish roots.

Sources close to the club have downplayed links to Sean Dyche, the experienced tactician known for his pragmatic style at Everton and, before that, with Burnley.

While the rumours have been tempered, they haven’t been entirely dismissed, suggesting Dyche could still be in the frame if other options falter.

Down the line and adding to the intrigue for Spurs bosses is the possibility of a Mauricio Pochettino reunion.

The Argentine, who led Spurs to their 2019 Champions League final, is said to be open to a return regardless of the club’s fate, though his financial demands could prove difficult should Spurs slip out of the top flight.

Pochettino’s affinity for the club could prove a sentimental pull, offering stability in turbulent times.

Irrespective of all that, the managerial puzzle is complicated further by swirling takeover talks.

Latest Tottenham news: PSG star wanted; double manager setback

Meanwhile, Spurs’ dreams of bringing Pochettino home face a new threat after it was reported that an elite European side had made the Argentine their top pick as a new manager by an ambitious president.

In a further blow, another option for Spurs in the permanent manager’s role has now also made his ambitions to take charge at Manchester United instead.

Whatever happens next, Spurs fans have seemingly seen enough and have suggested 16 possible replacements for the underwhelming Tudor.

On the transfer front, sources have told TEAMtalk that Spurs are ready to reignite their interest in a top PSG talent, although they are not alone and any deal would be, of course, subject to the club retaining their Premier League status.

ENIC adopt crazy Igor Tudor sack stance that leaves Tottenham in no man’s land - TEAMtalk
Description

A senior reporter at the BBC has shed new light on Tottenham and ENIC’s position regarding sacking Igor Tudor, and some of the claims beggar belief.

Tottenham hired Tudor for one reason and one reason only – avoid relegation. Yet under the Croatian, Spurs are only heading one way and that’s down into the Championship.

Tudor has overseen the worst start of any Tottenham manager, losing his first four matches. That has brought the club’s losing streak to six games, which is the worst in Tottenham’s 143-year history.

The players don’t seem to be listening, while the fans appear to have given up hope. Whatever Tudor was doing with his goalkeepers against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night doesn’t bear thinking about either.

As such, and especially with the club’s finances to take the mother of all hits if they’re relegated, you might expect this to be the perfect time for the club’s owners, ENIC, to step in and make a managerial change.

But according to senior BBC reporter, Sami Mokbel, ENIC are taking a backseat and do not want to get involved.

Mokbel wrote: ‘Tottenham Hotspur owner ENIC does not plan to take the decision on Igor Tudor’s future out of the hands of the club’s executive team despite the manager’s poor start.’

As such, Tottenham’s owners are leaving the decision on whether to stick or twist with Tudor to chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, and sporting director, Johan Lange.

Mokbel doubled down on his claims ENIC will let the chips fall where they may, adding: ‘Sources have indicated to BBC Sport that the club’s owners are not, and have never been, involved in the day to day running of the club, even during Daniel Levy’s era, allowing those on the ground to make decisions, and will leave any call about Tudor to the Spurs executives.

‘It is understood that the decision to sack Frank in February was taken by Venkatesham and Lange before being ratified by the ownership.’

With ENIC sticking to their hands-off approach despite the obvious direction the club are heading under Tudor, Spurs fans hoping for a change must look to Venkatesham and Lange.

TEAMtalk has consistently reported on Tottenham drafting up a list of managers they feel could step in on short notice and save the club from relegation if Tudor is axed.

Chief among them is former Spurs striker, Robbie Keane, who is now the manager of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

However, our insider, Fraser Fletcher, brought news on Thursday of an issue that could torpedo the Keane appointment.

The Irishman is keen to join Spurs and would have no qualms about remaining in situ even if they’re relegated. However, Keane wants a long-term contract, and thus far, Spurs are only thinking of a short-term deal to see out the season.

Unless either party alters their position, Keane is not expected to leave his job with Ferencvaros just to manage Tottenham for a handful of matches.

Further clouding the situation is the fact Keane has been shortlisted by Celtic who will seek a new permanent manager in the summer.

In any case, it appears Tudor will still be in the dugout for Tottenham’s trip to Anfield on Sunday, and if Spurs roll over and extend their losing streak to seven matches, all eyes will be on Lange and Venkatesham.

Arsenal hold two key advantages over Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of Brentford ace Kevin Schade, with reports indicating how the transfer battle is likely to go amid rival interest from two European heavyweights.

Schade spent time in the Energie Cottbus academy before joining Freiburg’s B team in July 2019. He went on to play 36 times for Freiburg’s first team, picking up interest from Brentford along the way.

After a six-month loan spell, Brentford paid Freiburg €25million to sign the forward permanently in the summer of 2023.

Since then, the left winger, who can also play as a centre-forward, has made a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s best attackers outside of the top six.

Schade has formed a great partnership with Igor Thiago, and has put up seven goals and three assists in 30 matches from the left flank this term. And that impressive form has seen him pick up interest from wealthier clubs…

CaughtOffside claim Arsenal have ‘discussed internally’ the possibility of raiding Brentford for Schade.

The Gunners are ‘exploring the market’ for a new left winger and have begun ‘showing interest’ in the five-cap Germany international.

Schade ‘could be the answer’ for Mikel Arteta as he searches for a new wide man to compete with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Schade ‘looks ready to make the step up to a higher level’, which could see him follow in the footsteps of players such as Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Ivan Toney.

Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are all keen on the 24-year-old, too, though the report suggests Arsenal have an important advantage.

“Arsenal and Brentford have a good relationship, so that could help with Schade. He’s been on the radar of a few clubs for some time now, but Arsenal’s interest is growing,” a source is quoted as saying.

This positive relationship has been in place since Arsenal captured David Raya and Christian Norgaard from the Bees.

We revealed on March 6 that Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan all hold interest in Schade.

We understand Spurs are long-term admirers of the player, though the fact they will likely have to operate without European football next season could hold them back.

This is another key advantage for Arsenal, as they are still on the hunt for a remarkable quadruple.

Schade could follow Eze to Arsenal

The success of Arteta’s project may convince Schade to prioritise a switch to the Emirates over all other options.

Arsenal beating Spurs to Schade would see them repeat the capture of Eberechi Eze. The attacking midfielder had been in talks to join Spurs last summer, only for Arsenal to steal in and complete a £67.5m transfer of their own.

Eze grew up supporting Arsenal and was delighted when the club called to sign him.

Returning to Brentford, Keith Andrews’ side are at risk of a devastating double exit this summer.

We revealed on Tuesday that Chelsea hold strong interest in making Thiago their new striker.

Arsenal: Talks for ‘jewel’ begin; target on the move

Meanwhile, Arsenal have entered talks for a €70m-rated ‘crown jewel’, according to a French report.

Arsenal are on alert as an elite forward ‘will’ be sold by his current club this summer, it has been claimed.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be back in the mix this summer to sign talented Paris Saint-Germain Lee Kang-in, who has emerged on the radar of several Premier League clubs after it emerged he is yet to commit to a new contract with the Ligue 1 giants, TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal.

The South Korea international currently has just over two years remaining on his deal in the French capital and PSG are keen to secure his long-term future at the club.

However, sources have indicated that negotiations over an extension are not progressing quickly, with Lee understood to be weighing up his options before committing.

Despite the uncertainty over his contract situation, the 25-year-old remains a hugely popular figure within the PSG dressing room and among staff at the club.

His versatility and technical quality have made him a valued member of Luis Enrique’s squad, which is why the Ligue 1 giants are pushing to tie him down to fresh terms.

Premier League clubs have been alerted to the situation and several have been keeping a close eye on developments.

Indeed, Tottenham made a serious attempt to sign Lee during the January transfer window and their interest remains. However, any renewed move from Spurs is likely to depend on the club retaining their Premier League status before committing significant funds in the market.

Lee, who has scored three goals and has four assists in limited starting opportunities for PSG this season, is capable of playing off both wings but is more comfortable operating as a second striker.

However, our sources indicate that Tottenham are far from alone in their admiration for the player.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have long admired Lee and are monitoring his situation closely as they consider potential additions to their attacking midfield options.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa and Newcastle United have also been made aware of the situation and have been keeping tabs on the South Korean playmaker’s future in Paris.

For now, PSG remain hopeful they can convince Lee to commit to a new contract, but with talks progressing slowly and Premier League interest growing, the coming months could prove crucial in determining whether he stays in France or makes the move to England.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur bosses continue to wrestle with multifaceted issues involved with sacking Igor Tudor so early into his tenure, and with sources revealing all on the issues they face in trying to lure Robbie Keane back to the club and how his future could be entwined with other managerial targets and the club’s ongoing relegation struggles.

Tudor was appointed as the Tottenham interim manager on February 14, on a deal until the end of the season. With a simple but more important briefing – to preserve the club’s Premier League status – what has unfolded since is the stuff of nightmares for Spurs and their fans.

Now, having lost four straight games under the Croat, and in the midst of their worst run in the club’s history, Tottenham are staring relegation firmly in the face.

But with nine games still left in the season, there remains time for Spurs to achieve their targets and avoid a painful first relegation in 49 years.

In light of that, the club’s decision-makers are grappling with the pressure of their deepening crisis as the club deliberates over a potential replacement for Tudor.

As it stands, Spurs sit just a point clear of relegation and could find themselves in the bottom three after this weekend if results don’t go their way.

As a result, it’s been widely reported that the board’s patience is wearing thin, prompting hushed discussions about a shake-up to salvage the campaign.

Intriguingly, sources can also explain in more detail around the dilemma they face in trying to convince Keane back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a potential last throw of the dice…

Next Tottenham manager: The Robbie Keane dilemma explained

Despite recent upheavals, Keane remains a viable candidate to take on the role as Spurs manager, though the potential appointment is not without issues.

The former Tottenham striker, who has impressed in his role with Hungarian champions Ferencvaros, is eager to step up to a permanent position at Spurs and is known to be very much open to a permanent appointment back at N17, regardless of what division Spurs find themselves in next season.

However, and herein lies the problem: Insiders indicate Keane would want a long-term contract to commit fully, though Spurs would prefer, at this stage, to only offer Keane a deal until the season’s end.

Should they preserve their Premier League status, the club would have more ambitious managerial targets in mind.

Pochettino appeal; Eddie Howe links for Spurs

Adding to the intrigue for Spurs bosses is the possibility of a Mauricio Pochettino reunion.

Amanda Staveley, the financier who previously orchestrated Newcastle United’s acquisition, has emerged as a keen bidder for Spurs.

Should her consortium alongside husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, succeed, sources claim she harbours ambitions to poach Eddie Howe from St James’ Park.

Howe, who has transformed Newcastle into trophy contenders and helped them win the 2025 League Cup during his time on Tyneside, might baulk at the prospect, given Spurs’ current disarray, squad unrest, and a leaky defence.

Whether he would embrace the challenge remains uncertain, but his tactical acumen could be the reset Tottenham desperately needs, and he retains a very strong relationship with Staveley. Should her consortium succeed in gaining a controlling stake from the Lewis family, the links to Howe could quickly gather pace.

As the board navigates these multifaceted decisions, fans are left in limbo. With relegation realistic and ownership uncertainty casting a shadow, the coming weeks could define Spurs’ future not just in the short-term but for several years ahead.

Postecoglou drops two-word answer to Tottenham return as he advises Tudor on how to avoid relegation - TEAMtalk
Description

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou admits he is sad but not surprised to see the club thick in the relegation quagmire, having handed Igor Tudor some words of advice over how to save the club, but stopped short of answering if he would step in to replace the under-fire Croatian.

Tudor’s four-game reign at Tottenham Hotspur is already under serious threat, and calls for his removal as interim boss are growing louder by the day. A 5-2 thumping by Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie saw him beaten for the fourth straight game, pitching the club as a whole on the worst losing run in their history.

But while TEAMtalk revealed on Wednesday that high-level talks were being held by the Spurs board to discuss a way forward and a potential removal of a second manager in a matter of weeks, it later emerged that Tudor looks likely to battle on for now.

But quite how long he has left in the role remains to be seen, though sources have played down speculation that Sean Dyche is on the cusp of stepping in despite sources revealing the 54-year-old would be keen to take on the role.

However, desperate fans have suggested 16 different options more favourable than the struggling Croatian, who surely now must take at least a point from Sunday’s trip to champions Liverpool to have any hope of continuing in the role.

In light of all that, former Spurs boss Postecoglou has offered Tudor some sound advice, having admitted he was pained to see them battling relegation.

“No, I wouldn’t say that,” Postecoglou responded to TNT Sports when asked if he was shocked by their struggles.

“I am still invested in the club because I have an attachment to those players, I worked with them for two years, the last time I had an interaction with the fans was 200,000 of them in the streets of London.

“It pains me to see it, it definitely looks like the players are fairly lost at the moment. There’s obvious pressure there, and it’s a really difficult time.

“It all kind of manifested in what happened [Tuesday] night, it was almost a worst-case scenario, you’re playing a side away from home, Atletico Madrid, who never drop to a performance level [below], they’re always at a really strong level, and it was just a horror start for them.”

Big Ange on what Tudor needs to do to save Tottenham

Asked what Tudor needs to instil into Spurs to help them survive, Postecoglou was hesitant to answer but quickly gave a detailed response.

“It’s hard for me to say, and me speaking about it tends to skew the argument. I think what’s really important right now is there is no way anybody objectively would say these players are performing at the levels they are capable of. They’ve just got to try to ease the pressure on them somehow.

“I thought [Tuesday] night was a tremendous opportunity for them, they’ve done really well in the Champions League, they’re on a good side of the draw, Atletico away is tough but you’ve still got to take them back to Tottenham, it just felt like the pressure was there.

“I’m sure they trained on the pitch the night before, but the number of times they were slipping over, I think that’s still pressure, there’s just a real desperation in everything you do, mentally you’re desperate. Then that physically manifests itself, you’re lunging for things, you’re rushing things.

“It’s hard for me to comment from the outside but, but for me, it’s about instilling some belief, showing them the kind of players they are, not that they can be, that they are, what they’ve already shown.”

Asked about supporters’ expectations versus what is being delivered, Postecoglou added: “That’s a broader argument, but the reality of it is they’ve got to deal with it now, that’s the most important thing.

“The football club, I said it a couple of weeks ago, wasn’t behaving to me like a big football club in terms of the kind of players it was attracting.

“But it is a big football club, we saw that last year, there was a couple of hundred thousand people in London going nuts there, and I felt it, how big a club it is.”

Would Postecoglou return to Tottenham?

Knowing how tough and competitive the Premier League is, the 60-year-old commented: “In the Premier League, it’s a slippery slope once you take your eye off the ball with certain things.

“But all that is not important right now. What’s important now is where they are in the league; they need to maintain their Premier League status, which is obviously paramount to what they want to build.

“Those kinds of questions, you kind of go, ‘okay, we want some real direction here’. I think it’s pretty clear what Tottenham fans want – they want the team to play a certain way, they want success, every team wants success.”

And when asked if he would consider a return to the club should he be asked, Postecoglou dropped a two-word response that perhaps, importantly, did not rule out such a possibility.

Dropping a two-word response to the question about answering an SOS to the club, he added: “No comment.”

Latest Tottenham news: Pochettino blow; Romero’s next club named

With regards to a long-term successor to Tudor as Tottenham manager, the club’s number one choice for the role, Mauricio Pochettino, is now in danger of being whisked away to an elite European side after he emerged as the top pick for an ambitious president.

In a further blow, another option for Spurs in the permanent manager’s role has now also made his ambitions to take charge at Manchester United instead.

On the transfer front, Cristian Romero finds himself at the centre of intense speculation as the summer transfer window approaches, with multiple top European clubs circling the Argentina international.

And amid a growing belief from TEAMtalk sources that Spurs are increasingly open to letting the Argentina star depart, the club most likely to sign him this summer, as well as the club’s asking price, has now come to light.

Another player strongly tipped to leave this summer is his jet-heeled defensive partner Micky van de Ven.

Strongly linked with both Liverpool and Real Madrid, it is now claimed the reigning Premier League champions have now reached a firm decision on a summer move – and Spurs might be able to breathe a little more easily.
