Tottenham has confirmed the signing of Andy Robertson, with the former Liverpool left-back set to complete his move to north London following his involvement at the World Cup

Andy Robertson has spoken for the first time after his transfer to Tottenham was confirmed, having brought his long association with Liverpool to an end this summer.

Robertson’s departure from Anfield was confirmed earlier this year, with the left-back bringing the curtain down on his nine-year spell with the Reds after playing his final game against Brentford last month.

The Scotland international will now join Tottenham, with the north London club confirming his signing on Friday. It comes after Robertson came close to joining Spurs back in January, with the move having not gone through amid Liverpool’s injury problems in defense.

Robertson will complete his move when his contract at Anfield expires on July 1, and following his involvement at this summer’s World Cup.

Speaking in his first video message to Tottenham fans, Robertson said: “Hi Tottenham fans, it’s me Andy Robertson here. As you can see, I’m not in Glasgow, I’m in America just now preparing for the World Cup.

“But I just wanted to send you a quick message to say I cannot wait to play for you guys, I cannot wait to meet you guys, I cannot wait to play in the stadium for the first time in front of you, and I’m already looking forward to next season. All the best, and I’ll see you soon.”

Robertson leaves Liverpool this summer having played 378 games for the club, winning every available major honor along the way, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League.

Speaking about the signing, Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi said: "Andy is someone I've admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team.

"He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch.

"I can't wait to start working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have on everyone around him."

Liverpool.com says: Best of luck to Robertson at Spurs. It will be strange seeing him playing against Liverpool next season, but he will be guaranteed a great reception when he returns to Anfield.

Tottenham will be getting the model professional in the Scot, something which it seems like it needs given the last couple of years. Under De Zerbi, you’d certainly expect a far better showing from it next season.

Tottenham is closing in on a double transfer swoop this summer, with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, who has been linked with Liverpool, said to be advancing toward a deal at Spurs

Tottenham is believed to be the frontrunner to sign Marcos Senesi when the Bournemouth defender's contract expires, with negotiations now at an advanced stage.

Senesi, who has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, looks set to become the latest player to depart Bournemouth after an impressive spell on the south coast, with the 29-year-old attracting interest from Premier League clubs. It appears the Cherries, who confirmed Senesi's departure earlier this month, will face the Argentine next season, with the player opting to remain in England.

BBC Sport reports that a deal between the center-back and Tottenham is "advancing toward completion," though personal terms are yet to be fully finalized.

Senesi is reported to have turned down three contract offers from Bournemouth, which abandoned its efforts to keep the former Feyenoord defender once he entered into discussions with clubs abroad.

However, Spurs now appear to be Senesi's most probable destination as they press ahead with their efforts to strengthen their squad following their Premier League survival on the final day of the season.

The pursuit of Senesi comes amid reports that Andy Robertson is preparing to swap Liverpool for Tottenham, also set to depart on a Bosman transfer this summer.

The 32-year-old made his last appearance for Liverpool on the final day of the season and has already reached an agreement in principle to join Spurs, who had previously attempted to secure his signature during the January transfer window.

Robertson ultimately remained at Liverpool despite Tottenham and the club agreeing on a fee for the experienced left-back.

Yet the Londoners appear poised to secure their man at the second attempt, despite reported interest from Juventus.

Having narrowly avoided the drop last week, Tottenham's chief executive Vinai Venkatesham signaled that the club would be targeting seasoned professionals as it looks to climb back toward the top of the Premier League under Roberto De Zerbi.

The new manager's arrival in April proved to be the catalyst for safety.

"The squad needs work and the squad hasn't got the right balance," Venkatesham told BBC Sounds.

"We need experience and leadership, and also that kind of physical robustness to play in the most demanding league that exists.

"We need to strengthen the club over multiple transfer windows, but this transfer window, in particular, is going to be critical."

Andy Robertson's next club looks to have been decided, with the former Liverpool left-back having reportedly reached an agreement after making his final appearance for the Reds

Andy Robertson looks to be on the verge of completing a move to Tottenham this summer, despite a late attempt from another club to hijack his next move.

The left-back, of course, brought his nine-year spell at Liverpool to an end on Sunday, with Robertson and Mohamed Salah both playing their final game for the club against Brentford.

Both players will depart as free agents, with Robertson’s contract expiring this summer and Salah agreeing to have the final year of his deal waived. Although the Egyptian’s future is still uncertain, Robertson’s next move looks to have been decided.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has been reached with Tottenham, and a deal is expected to be signed soon after Roberto De Zerbi’s side secured their Premier League survival on the final day.

Robertson was touted for a move to north London during the January transfer window, although Liverpool was not in a position to sell him amid a raft of injuries in defense, while the 32-year-old didn’t push for an exit.

He looks set to complete his move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though, despite a late attempt from Juventus to turn his head.

Romano claims the Italian club, which has also been heavily linked with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, sent a proposal to Robertson, but the defender is expected to respect a pact he reached with Tottenham.

If he does complete the move to Spurs, as expected, Robertson will be aiming to help his new side to a much-improved showing in next season’s Premier League.

Tottenham has recorded back-to-back 17th-place finishes for the last two campaigns, and only narrowly avoided relegation this season, finishing two points above West Ham.

Although his time at Liverpool is up now, Robertson insists he’s still got plenty to offer in his career.

"For me, this is the biggest chapter in the book, but the book still isn’t finished, and I still have a lot to give," Robertson told Sky Sports.

"I still want to achieve a lot of things in my career, but these last few weeks have given me the opportunity to reflect on my Liverpool career. which I probably didn’t do. As footballers, we always look forward to the next, but I have been able to look back on the happiest times in my life.

"It’s not easy to leave Liverpool, but the fact of the matter is, my time is up. My contract has ended, and that happens to everyone at some point. I look back on my nine years with zero regrets, but it is never easy leaving a club like this.

"Playing in front of the fans, in big games at Anfield, they are the things that I will miss. And knowing that is coming to an end is so difficult. But players and clubs have to move on, and I am very understanding of that.

"I believe I have so much more to give. I want to achieve more. I am trying to get as many Scotland caps as I can, but also at club level, I believe I can still win things and make an impact on whatever changing room I am in next."

Liverpool is set to enter the market to sign a new center-back during this summer's transfer window, and the Reds are being linked with a move for a Bournemouth star

Liverpool could hijack Tottenham's move for Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi if Ibrahima Konate departs on a free transfer this summer, according to reports.

Senesi is set to become one of the most in-demand free agents on the market this summer when his contract at Bournemouth expires at the end of June. The 28-year-old Argentinean is having an excellent season for Bournemouth, prompting interest from bigger clubs.

Tottenham is leading the race to sign Senesi, although Spurs' prospects of signing Senesi will obviously vanish if the club suffers relegation to the Championship. talkSPORT says that Senesi has already verbally agreed to move to Tottenham, but that Liverpool is also considering moving for the Cherries star.

It is suggested that Liverpool's move for Senesi could hinge on whether French international Konate signs a new contract at Liverpool.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was the technical director at Bournemouth when the South Coast club signed Senesi in 2022.

Liverpool is in the midst of a defensive overhaul, with Konate out of contract at the end of the season, and it is still unclear whether the Frenchman will agree to an extension at Anfield.

Jarell Quansah was also sold last summer, while Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are both approaching the final 12 months of their deals.

After last month's Merseyside derby, Konate hinted that he was close to renewing his contract at Liverpool. Konate said: “There is a big chance I’m here next season. This is what I always wanted.

"I’m waiting to sort the contract but when everything is sorted you will have to ask Richard [Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director] what I said to him in September, November and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet.”

The Guardian then reported over the following couple of days that Konate had informed Liverpool last year that he wanted to stay at the club, but there has not been much to suggest that there have been any further developments in talks since then.

Liverpool signed Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet during the last two transfer windows, with the club taking steps to prepare the squad for the long term in that area of the field.

Leoni has been missing since September after sustaining a serious knee injury during his Liverpool debut, while Jacquet's season was also ended early by a shoulder injury.

Randal Kolo Muani has been linked with a surprise move to Liverpool this summer, with Reds legend Dietmar Hamann sharing his transfer verdict while taking aim at Tottenham

Dietmar Hamann has thrown his support behind "hugely talented" Randal Kolo Muani and insists he cannot be fairly assessed as a potential Liverpool acquisition at present, arguing that every player's form deteriorates at Tottenham.

With Mohamed Salah poised to leave Anfield this summer, the Paris Saint-Germain forward Kolo Muani, currently on loan at Spurs, has emerged as an unexpected candidate to succeed the Egyptian and continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.

The 27-year-old has delivered in the Champions League this season with four goals and two assists, though he has managed just one goal and one assist across 27 Premier League outings. He did shine in Tottenham's 2-1 triumph at Aston Villa on Sunday, however.

Roberto De Zerbi remarked after the game about Spurs' injury problems: "Xavi Simons and Solanke, both are top players for us, but Kolo Muani is different as a characteristic, but not as a quality.

"You're not watching the best Kolo Muani, but Kolo Muani is a top player."

The Italian manager had also commented on Friday during his press conference: "Kolo Muani two years ago, PSG paid £70 million [for him]. He's not stupid, he's a top player."

Now, Hamann, who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, has offered his assessment on whether Kolo Muani would suit Liverpool while taking a swipe at Spurs.

"Randal Kolo Muani to Liverpool would be a surprise," he told Bet King.

"I think he had a spell at Juventus as well, which didn't really work out. But I've seen him in the Bundesliga; he's a hugely talented player.

"I don't think we should take Spurs as a benchmark because in recent years, every player who went there got worse, their form deteriorated.

"So, we shouldn't take this at face value. I think he's certainly a player who's capable of doing it.

"I think he showed glimpses at Spurs of what he's capable of, and I think he's a player who could do well at Anfield."

Kolo Muani has scored 23 goals during the 2022-23 season for Eintracht Frankfurt, helping the team reach the German Cup final, where it lost to RB Leipzig.

He's previously won two Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups and the French Super Cup. The striker was part of the France squad that lost the 2022 World Cup final to Argentina.

Liverpool could be one of many teams that look to take advantage of Tottenham's potential relegation from the Premier League, with plenty of top talent that could be available

Former Liverpool player Jan Molby has suggested that the club should be looking at Tottenham duo Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray ahead of the summer transfer window.

It comes as Spurs face the very real possibility of relegation from the Premier League, with only four games left for the club to secure top-flight status. The North London club sits in 18th, two points off safety behind West Ham, setting up a tense few weeks as new boss Roberto De Zerbi battles an injury crisis at the same time.

While full focus for Tottenham will be on the pitch, other teams will be watching on for an opportunity to pinch some top talent for a cut price, should relegation occur.

Liverpool could be one of the teams to take advantage of that situation, with previous links suggesting Micky van de Ven may be an option for the backline.

However, former player Jan Molby claims he would only take the duo of Gray and Bergvall from the Spurs midfield when speaking to Anfield Index.

"The only two that would interest me would be the two youngsters, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall," the ex-Liverpool star said when looking through the Tottenham squad.

"One, and this is a real bonus, is the amount of football that they've played already.

"You know, because of the situation at Spurs, so that is a real bonus.

"I'm not talking about them being 16, 17 years old, but at 18, 19, 20, they've played a lot of football and they've played a lot of football in trying conditions and circumstances which, if you've got something about you, can make you... my only worry about both of them is the fee."

It remains to be seen whether either Gray or Bergvall would be available this summer, in the event of a Tottenham relegation, but only time will tell.

However, a move for either could help secure the long-term future of the Liverpool midfield, which appears to be in flux heading towards the summer transfer window.

Curtis Jones is entering the final year of his contract, which could see him make a move, while no talks have been held yet with Alexis Mac Allister over an extension of his contract, which expires in 2028.

A potential exit has been touted for both, while there is seemingly more clarity over Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, giving a base to work around.

Adding Bergvall and Gray could offer quality for the present and potential for the future, but it remains to be seen if a deal is possible.

Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool when the season ends, and Ally McCoist has made a transfer prediction about where he will end up amid Tottenham relegation fears

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson will not be short of options when his contract expires this summer and he leaves the Anfield side, with Celtic among those often touted as a potential destination.

Tottenham is said to be leading the race for Robertson, but that move will hinge on Roberto De Zerbi's side staying in the Premier League. It is currently two points behind West Ham and languishing in the relegation zone.

And Ally McCoist believes that if it comes down to Spurs heading into the Championship, that could bring Celtic into contention for Robertson's signature. The Scottish giant signed his former Liverpool teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain earlier this year.

"If you are offering him the option of the Championship or Celtic, I think he would probably take Celtic," McCoist said on talkSPORT. "But I still think there will be other teams in England’s top flight who would take him.

"He’s been absolutely different class. I can’t believe this. I have said this 100 times. I sound like a broken record. I can’t believe Robbo hasn’t had more game time at Liverpool. Milos Kerkez has come on now."

While Robertson has been an excellent servant for Liverpool, it is understandable that Kerkez has come in and taken his spot. It is equally understandable that the player wants more regular game time.

"I am really focused on just trying to finish the season as strongly as possible because that's what this club deserves from me," Robertson told reporters a few days after the announcement that he was leaving was made.

"There's been discussions all season. Last summer, I was close to having a decision to make and I decided to stay. It was the same in January. It was more a discussion with the club and it was an open and honest conversation.

"I've always said I've had an amazing relationship with the owners and people like that. It was just a sit-down with my wife to see what we wanted next and obviously we'll see where we go, but it's important to end this story and we'll see whatever comes next.

"I want to play, so that was where the discussions came. It's not like I've knocked back a contract or anything; there was no contract on the table. It was a conversation we all had.

"It was a conversation of 'OK, this is what I want to do, I want to play and I believe I've still got the ability to play.' I think I have shown that this season.

"You can't be promised anything at this club — and that's absolutely fine. It can't be promised at any club. But it's also maybe time for the story to end and obviously me and Mo [Salah] both made that decision this year."

Liverpool.com says: Celtic will always be an option for Robertson, even later in his career. He could play for a Champions League level English team next season, potentially, or at least somewhere in European competition.

He still has the quality to play at a very good level, which would make a switch to Spurs an interesting decision.

Roberto De Zerbi is the favorite to be appointed as Tottenham's new manager after Igor Tudor's exit, with one Liverpool player having made his feelings on the Italian perfectly clear

Liverpool could be set to come face-to-face with Roberto De Zerbi again next season, with the Italian being strongly linked with a return to the Premier League.

De Zerbi, who left Marseille earlier this year, is the favorite to become the new Tottenham manager, with Spurs having parted ways with interim boss Igor Tudor on Sunday.

Tudor left north London after a poor spell in charge, having taken over following Thomas Frank’s firing. The 47-year-old lost five of the seven games he took charge of, and picked up just one point in the Premier League, which came against Liverpool in what is a damning indictment of Arne Slot’s side.

Former Brighton boss De Zerbi is now seen as the favorite to take over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. According to The Mirror, Spurs are looking to appoint a new manager before their next game against Sunderland on April 12.

They are said to be trying to convince De Zerbi to take the job now, with the 46-year-old having been reluctant to do so until the summer with Tottenham in the midst of a relegation battle.

Should Spurs get their man, the appointment will certainly get the approval of Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The midfielder played under De Zerbi at Brighton before he made the move to Anfield in 2023, and he’s in no doubt about his ability as a manager.

"He’s a crazy guy, he’s Italian, I love him," Mac Allister said on The Rest is Football podcast back in December 2024.

"He's the best manager I’ve ever had. The passion he gives for football is special and his tactical side is amazing.

“He makes you feel good. Since the first day I met him he was amazing with me and that’s why I said he was the best coach."

Mac Allister’s comments may come as a surprise, not least because he spent a year playing under legendary Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Not only that, but the Reds were in the middle of a title charge under Slot when the Argentine gave that interview.

Still, his view may give Tottenham some confidence, and it needs as much as it can get at the moment.

If De Zerbi does take the job, he will have an almighty job on his hands, with Spurs sitting just a point above the relegation zone after a disastrous 3-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest before the international break.

Jamie Carragher questions Arne Slot's use of two Liverpool players after Tottenham woe

Jamie Carragher questions Arne Slot's use of two Liverpool players after Tottenham woe - Liverpool.com
Description

Liverpool just slumped to a low point of the campaign, throwing away two points at home to hapless Tottenham. Jamie Carragher has questioned Arne Slot's approach.

If you were looking for a bright side, you'd at least have to admit it's quite funny that a draw with Spurs is the result that has triggered such a sense of crisis at Liverpool. That tells you all you need to know about the season the North London side is having.

But while Arne Slot has not yet turned Liverpool into the worst of the so-called big six, and has inexplicably guided the team into a potential Champions League spot, there is now near-universal acceptance that something is going horribly wrong at Anfield. Performances have been consistently alarming for a matter of months.

Jamie Carragher branded the Spurs draw an "absolute disaster", but noted that the same problems have reared their head all season. While suggesting that any manager would potentially encounter similar issues with the squad that has been assembled, he did question Slot's use of two players in particular.

The first was Alexis Mac Allister, whom he called a "real problem". Carragher did not directly blame Slot for the Argentine's form, but suggested that the manager can no longer trust him to do what he once did.

"The longer the games go on the more Mac Allister struggles," Carragher assessed. "I think that’s a real problem for Liverpool that they need to address in midfield."

Sure enough, Dominik Szoboszlai often appears to be the only one doing anything against the ball in the Liverpool midfield. Mac Allister was a player whom Jurgen Klopp was happy to rely on in his high-pressing system, and yet the intensity appears to have all but disappeared from his game, with the 27-year-old looking perpetually a yard off the pace.

The second issue that Carragher picked out lies more squarely with Slot. The former Liverpool defender believes that the manager is guilty of misusing Curtis Jones.

When Slot was first appointed, Jones purred about how the new style would be more suited to his game. He was so effusive that some even felt that it was a little disrespectful to Klopp.

And yet fast-forward to today, and Jones can hardly get a kick. When he does play, it is usually from the bench, and Carragher has questioned Slot's latest substitution.

“Curtis Jones comes on and the game goes end to end, he takes on the Wirtz role and I don’t know why, he’s not that player," Carragher said. "There’s too much space when the game opens up and Mac Allister can’t cover it."

Jones has caused a bit of a conundrum for successive managers now, with clear talent but no firmly-defined role. He has featured everywhere from the wings to the number six position.

Off the bench in the Wirtz role, the academy graduate failed to make his presence felt, and arguably even left the midfield more exposed. After a slow start, the big-money summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen has been one of the better pieces of business, and he puts in an impressive off-the-ball shift for a technical, tricky number 10; you would have to question what Slot was hoping to achieve with the change.

He may well point to squad management, with a big game against Galatasaray coming hot on the heels of this one. But having failed to build on the one-goal advantage, the result against Tottenham was still in the balance, and in hindsight it looked more secure with Wirtz still on the pitch.

If Slot cannot trust his depth beyond such a small core of players, that's a recruitment issue, and Carragher is right to warn that a new manager would not be a straightforward cure-all. But failure to even beat this hapless Spurs side will be a wake-up call for the Liverpool hierarchy, with Champions League qualification on the line; there comes a point where there's very little to lose by making a change in the dugout, but potentially tens of millions of dollars to gain..

Roy Keane and Jamie Redknapp praised Igor Tudor's tactical approach as Tottenham earned their first Premier League point since February with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool

Roy Keane commended Igor Tudor for deploying Dominic Solanke and Richarlison together up front for Tottenham Hotspur during their 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Both strikers formed a partnership at Anfield, with the Brazilian netting their 90th-minute equalizer. Second-half substitute Randal Kolo Muani provided the assist for the goal, but Solanke caused problems for Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk.

Spurs were behind for more than an hour of the match, but secured their first Premier League point since February. In doing so, they ended a sequence of six consecutive defeats across all competitions, the last five of which came since Tudor's interim appointment.

Keane, who had earlier slammed Liverpool's players, praised the manager for fielding two strikers. He said on Sky Sports: "[Spurs' strikers] gave them an outlet and Liverpool struggled to deal with it.

"You always think there is a softness to Spurs, but the physicality of the two players up front was a huge bonus. They were knocking people over.

"Between now and the end of the season, they'll have battles every week. Forest are their next game - huge."

Keane also said: "Spurs dug deep. People have been poking fun at Spurs the last few months, but today they showed that fighting spirit.

"It was ugly sometimes. They went direct; the goal came from direct play. It was unlike Tottenham.

"They showed spirit, fight and quality at the right time. To go a goal down, I thought we'd find out about these lads today. You have to give them credit; they deserved it. Towards the end, Liverpool had one or two chances, but Tottenham could have gone on to win it."

Jamie Redknapp singled out Richarlison for particular praise. He said: "All game, [Richarlison] was a thorn in their side, Gomez and Van Dijk. He had a bit of physicality.

"Spurs might have fallen on a system here, with two strikers: Richarlison and Solanke. They're a handful; they were powerful.

"It wasn't pretty, but they had opportunities. It just became uncomfortable for Liverpool. The longer it went on, you thought [Spurs] would get something."
