With the focus now back on club football after the conclusion of Euro 2024 and the Copa America respectively, expect transfer talk to go into overdrive. Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has confirmed, are likely to be busy this summer and are closing in on the signing of Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Setford. There could, however, be more of a statement signing in the offing too, with the Gunners reportedly handed a boost in their pursuit of Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have already been busy this summer but remain on the hunt for a new striker. Now, their attentions are said to have turned to England’s hero of the semi-final in Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins.

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged Lille defender Leny Yoro to make the “right decision” and move to Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils are one of the teams believed to be interested in the 18-year-old, along with Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Chelsea have also previously considered a move for the teenager but have since signed Tosin Adarabioyo to bolster their defensive options.

Madrid have long been touted as Yoro’s preferred destination but Saha is hopeful United can convince the player to snub overtures from the Spanish capital by offering a higher salary.

Tottenham reject AC Milan bid for Emerson Royal amid Dortmund interest

Tottenham have rejected an £8.4m (€10m) bid from AC Milan for defender Emerson Royal, who is valued at closer to £16.8m (€20m).

Milan's offer for the Brazilian, which was submitted both verbally and in writing, was rejected by Spurs and there has been no contact between the clubs since.

Spurs are open to selling the 25-year-old who is not a first-choice under head coach Ange Postecoglou, while Emerson has said he wants regular football to force his way into Brazil's 2026 World Cup squad.

Galatasaray confirm interest in Scott McTominay and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg

Galatasaray vice-president Ibrahim Hatipoglu has confirmed Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Scott McTominay are transfer targets this summer.

The Turkish champions are looking to build on a record-breaking season in which they held off the challenge of arch rivals Fenerbahce by claiming a stunning 102 points.

Fenerbahce have since responded by appointing Jose Mourinho as manager, with the champions now looking to build from a position of strength.

The Cottagers are considering whether to increase their transfer offer as they look to improve their attack for the new campaign. Crystal Palace have also been linked.

Arsenal have begun talks with Real Sociedad over a deal for Mikel Merino.

According to Football Transfers, Mikel Arteta is desperate to add to his midfield and the Spain international is his latest target after moving on from Martin Zubimendi.

However, the Gunners are not prepared to spend more than £21million on the players, who is out of contract next summer. Sociedad want closer to £25m.

Gareth Southgate on England contract extension

Gareth Southgate says he will need "a few days" to decide his future after Sunday's European Championship final but already has "a pretty good idea" of his decision.

The Football Association want Southgate to stay on as England manager for the 2026 World Cup, irrespective of the result against Spain in Berlin this weekend.

The 53-year-old's contract is up in December, allowing for a period of reflection after the Euros, but Southgate says he will not "need weeks" to make up his mind.

Asked if he knew whether the final would be his last game in charge, Southgate said: "No.

"The way my emotions have gone over the last five weeks, it would be ridiculous for me to think about anything beyond Sunday.

"We've got time to make decisions. I won't need weeks. But also, I think I've earned the right to give myself a few days to think things through.

Mikel Arteta maps out transfer plans

Mikel Arteta believes the Premier League’s enforcement of Profit and Sustainability Rules has made clubs wary to do deals and slowed the transfer market down this summer.

Everton and Nottingham Forest were hit with points deductions last season for breaching PSR, while the likes of Newcastle were forced to frantically do deals before the end of last month to stay compliant.

Arteta believes the environment has made clubs wary about splashing the cash and it partly explains why the summer transfer window is yet to get going so far.

Tottenham striker Troy Parrott is travelling to the Netherlands for a medical with AZ Alkmaar ahead of joining on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old is set to leave Spurs after seven years at the club, in which time he made four first-team appearances and was sent on five loan spells.

Parrott's most recent loan spell was at Eredivisie for Excelsior Rotterdam, where he scored 10 goals and provided four assists. AZ were subsquently impressed and now, according to Football Insider, is set to join for a "seven-figure fee".

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a fee with Lille for defender Leny Yoro, but are having trouble convincing the teenager.

Real Madrid are understood to be his preferred destination, while Liverpool have also been sniffing around.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Madrid remain in pole position despite not agreeing a fee with Lille.

Liverpool decided against pursuing the youngster as they are convincing Yoro will move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Arsenal's search for a new goalkeeper has seen them make a bid for Ajax and England Under-20 goalkeeper Tommy Setford.

The Gunners have already seen a miserly £50,000 bid rejected by Wolves for Dan Bentley and Fabrizio Romano reports they have moved on to 18-year-old Setford.

Setford has been at Ajax for a decade and has played for England's youth ranks since. His contract in Amsterdam expires next summer.

Manchester United are lining up a late swoop to lure Xavi Simons to Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, Paris Saint-Germain are expected to loan Simons out for another season after a year at RB Leipzig, with Bayern Munich confident of agreeing a deal.

Manchester United are now pushing hard to complete the swift signing of Matthijs de Ligt, reports claim.

The Red Devils have seriously stepped up their summer transfer plans over recent weeks, with defence a key priority area to strengthen significantly with bids also made for Leny Yoro and Jarrad Branthwaite.

According to Sport Bild in Germany, United will look to quickly wrap up the signing of De Ligt following the Netherlands’ agonising semi-final exit from Euro 2024 at the hands of England in Dortmund last night.

An agreement with Bayern Munich over the former Ajax centre-back is now said to be close in a huge boost for Erik ten Hag.

Liverpool battling to sign Adrien Rabiot on free transfer

Liverpool are reportedly chasing a deal for Adrien Rabiot this summer.

The 29-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Serie A giants Juventus at the end of last month following the expiration of his contract in Turin.

There is now a heavyweight scramble to secure the services of the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, who is expected to decide on his next move now France have been eliminated from Euro 2024.

Manchester United handed Leny Yoro boost after fee agreed

Manchester United have been handed a key new boost in their pursuit of Leny Yoro.

The Red Devils are believed to have made a serious play this week to beat Real Madrid to the signing of the teenage French defender, with reports of a £42m bid being accepted by Ligue 1 side Lille.

And Yoro has now hit out at fake social media accounts that claimed he does not want to move to Old Trafford at all as he holds out for a dream Madrid switch instead.

"I don't want you @ManUtd. Leave me alone,” one account pretending to be Yoro tweeted.

To which the player himself then responded: “Fake account. You guys are psycho. Signal this account.”

Chelsea hold talks over Dani Olmo

Chelsea are among the Premier League clubs interested in a deal for Dani Olmo, reports claim.

The RB Leipzig forward has played a key role in Spain’s march to the final of Euro 2024, registering three goals and two assists in the last four games despite mostly being used off the bench.

He will have another important job to do against England in Berlin on Sunday, after which he could head to the Premier League.

Olmo is believed to have a £50m release clause in his current Leipzig contract that expires on Monday, with the Daily Mirror counting Chelsea as one of the clubs interested in his services.

Arsenal look to be edging ever closer towards a deal for Riccardo Calafiori.

The Gunners have identified the versatile Italy international, 22, as a priority summer target as they look to bolster Mikel Arteta’s defensive ranks for another tilt at the Premier League title next season.

Calafiori is believed to have had an agreement on personal terms for some time now, with Arsenal trying to thrash out a deal with Bologna.

Borussia Dortmund’s move for former Arsenal and Chelsea target Serhou Guirassy has hit a stumbling block.

During the striker’s medical, an issue has been discovered which has alerted the German club.

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is closing in on a move to Lazio, according to the Italian club’s sporting director.

Angelo Fabiani has revealed a deal is close for an initial loan deal that will be made permanent next summer for around £7million.

“[Tavares] is a player who interests Lazio a lot,” he told a press conference on Wednesday. “There have been talks between the two clubs for an agreement that was reached yesterday.

Basel chief confirms Chelsea deal

Basel have all-but confirmed Renato Veiga’s move to Chelsea.

The Blues have agreed to pay just under £12m for the Portugal youth international, who Basel did not want to sell but consider the offer too good to turn down.

Swiss club director Daniel Stucki told BZ Basel: “We had planned to keep him but, ultimately, the market decides.

“If there is a good offer, it would be difficult for the club to block a transfer. With his potential, he has a unique profile.”

Marseille fans and mayor demand 'shameful' Greenwood deal abandoned

Marseille’s bid to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United has sparked a huge backlash in the French city.

According to various reports, the French side have had an offer worth around £27million accepted for the 22-year-old.

Greenwood has not played for United since being suspended on January 30, 2022, over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online.

Mayor Benoit Payan says ir will bring "shame" to the city.

He told French radio station RMC: "Greenwood’s behaviour is unspeakable, unacceptable. Hitting his wife… I saw images that deeply shocked me. Massacring his wife in this way is unbecoming of a man and he cannot have his place on this team.

He added: "The values ​​of OM and Marseille are anything but that in fact. It’s a shame. I will ask [club president] Pablo Longoria not to recruit Greenwood. I don’t want my club to be covered with the shame of someone who hits his wife."

Arsenal outcast vows to fight for future

Nuno Tavares has vowed to fight for his future at Arsenal.

The left-back is currently out of favour at the Gunners and has spent the last two seasons out on loan but Nottingham Forest, his most recent team, declined an option to sign him so he’s set for pre-season in north London.

And asked by Portuguese newspaper Record if his objective to convince in pre-season and earn a place in the Gunners’ squad, he said: “Yes, obviously, I have in mind to return to Arsenal and have a good pre-season.

“Regardless of what happens in the future, I will always do my best, as I have done in all pre-seasons, to have a place at the club. I always try to do my work in the best way. Then it’s up to the club to decide whether I’m a valid option or not.

“But I have a strong mentality. I know what I’m capable of. Sometimes things don’t depend on us, but my job is to focus on myself and do what I do best.

“I played for one of the biggest clubs, Benfica, where there was huge competition. Therefore, it doesn’t have to be a question of fear of competition, because I know my value and I don’t let anything affect me. I trust my work.

“I went with the intention of playing as many games as possible at Arsenal. Because it was my first year playing at a high level and in the Premier League, I think 28 games [in my first season at Arsenal] is very good for the first year. It was a good time.”

Man Utd bid accepted for Leny Yoro

Manchester United have received a major boost in their bid to sign Leny Yoro.

According to Sky Sports, a £42million bid has been agreed in principle with Lille for the teenager to join the Red Devils.

Lille are ready to cash in on Yoro, 18, ahead of his contract expiring next year but rival interest from Real Madrid complicates matters.

Reports in Spain insist that the player would prefer to sign for Los Blancos and they are happy to either negotiate a fee with Lille now or wait until 2025 and bring him over as a free agent.

For now, it remains to be seen whether Yoro would accept an earlier move to Man Utd or whether Madrid can agree a deal for this transfer window with Lille.

Man Utd coach leaves to make space for Ruud van Nistelrooy

Much has been made of the incomings at Manchester United with Ruud van Nistelrooy returning to the club as Erik ten Hag’s assistant coach, alongside Rene Hake.

But that means some outgoings are inevitable and the Mirror have reported that Mitchell van der Gaag has left.

The Dutchman first linked up with Ten Hag at Ajax in 2021 and had been at his side throughout his United spell, up to this point.

It is said to be unclear as to whether Ten Hag made the decision or whether Sir Jim Ratcliffe did as part of his overhaul of the club.
