Transfer news LIVE!

Arsenal have been linked with signing a striker all window but it appears a new defender could be the first addition through the door. The Gunners are interested in Bologna and Italy's Riccardo Calafiori and are now leading the race for a player who is expected to cost around £42million. Viktor Gyokeres remains the desired target up top, and is available for an £85million release clause.

Chelsea were also interested in Calafiori, though not at that price, but are closing in on their sixth summer signing in the form of Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino. A deal could be wrapped up this week, just days after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Marc Guiu joined. Spain's Euro 2024 star Nico Williams is now a target, and also of interest to Tottenham.

Spurs have signed Leeds teenager Archie Gray for £30m, and are now looking at Williams who has a £49m release clause. Désiré Doué and Pedro Neto are also targets. Manchester United's transfer business is also stepping up as Bayern Munich's Matthijs De Ligt and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee likely first arrivals. Transfer news LIVE!

The summer transfer window continues to hot up with Arsenal rejecting Manchester United’s surprise offer to sign Jadon Sancho for £40million. A new forward is on the Gunners’ shortlist with Santiago Gimenez, Viktor Gyokeres, Nico Williams and Victor Osimhen all linked so far but no breakthroughs as of yet.

Osimhen remains a target for Man Utd and reports out of Italy claim a fresh player-plus-cash bid involving Rasmus Hojlund is set to be launched as Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues his novel approach to the transfer market. Liverpool are also looking to make their first signing of the summer, which won’t be Anthony Gordon after Newcastle sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to ease their PSR concerns.

That also means Chelsea will miss out on a swoop for Alexander Isak, but they are busy with both Aaron Anselmino and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall set to sign. Tottenham, meanwhile, are closing in on a deal for Archie Gray after his move to Brentford collapsed. Follow all the latest updates, news and rumours via Standard Sport’s live blog!

Done deal!

This one is a surprise.

Newcastle have signed John Ruddy on a free transfer from Birmingham.

That’s four first-team goalkeepers on the Magpies’ books, joining yesterday’s new signing Odysseas Vlachodimos, Martin Dubravka and Nick Pope!

Done deal!

Two more signings in the book today as Aston Villa complete a double purchase from Juventus.

Having seen Douglas Luis move to Turin for £42m, Villa have landed Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior for a combined fee worth £18m.

Argentine midfielder Barrenechea, 23, spent last year on loan at Frosinone.

Spurs offer Joe Rodon in Archie Gray talks

Tottenham are closing in on a deal for Leeds teenager Archie Gray after Brentford's move for the midfielder collapsed, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

Talks between Spurs and Leeds for the 18-year-old are progressing well, with expectation that a package worth in the region of £35million can be reached.

Defender Joe Rodon, who spent last season on loan at Leeds, could be included in the deal in part-exchange, which is still being discussed.

Gray is keen on the move to north London and personal terms and a medical are expected to be a formality.

And another one..! Ben Johnson completes his move to newly-promoted Ipswich after leaving West Ham.

“Ben is a player who fits the profile we like to bring to the Club,” Town manager Kieran McKenna told the club website. “He is a young and talented defender with good technical quality, as well as excellent physical attributes.

“Ben also has a good amount of Premier League experience for his age and he is hungry to take the next step in his career. We feel this is a good move for him and he is an excellent addition for the Club.

“Everyone who has worked with him speaks highly of his character, so we’re sure he will fit into the dressing room and our environment and culture.”

Done deal!

Today is of course the first day of the ‘new season’ when it comes to contracts and whatnot, so that means a flurry of activity as clubs announce what are largely expected deals.

Lewis Hall has signed for Newcastle in a £28million deal that was already agreed as part of his loan move from Chelsea a year ago.

He told the Newcastle website: "I am extremely proud to be able to build on last season and continue my journey at Newcastle United. The fans, the manager and his staff, my teammates and everyone at the club have made me feel so welcome that I want to repay the faith they've shown in me.

"When you pull on the black and white shirt, there is no feeling like it and playing in front of the best supporters in the country is extra special for me being a Toon fan.

"I gained a lot of experience last season, and with the squad we have, we'll be looking to push on even further this season. I can't wait to get started."

Done deal!

Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Daichi Kamada on a two-year deal.

Following the signing of Chadi Riad, the Japanese midfielder is officially the second signing under Oliver Glasner after leaving Lazio.

Kamada said: “I’m excited to be joining Crystal Palace, and to be working with Oliver – who is a coach I know well – again. I am looking forward to testing myself in the Premier League, and hopefully the club and I can achieve all of our objectives together.”

Chelsea youngster to join Leicester

Leicester are set to sign Chelsea academy star Michael Golding.

The 18-year-old midfielder will move in the opposite direction to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, in a separate transaction to that £30m switch.

The Foxes will pay £4m for Golding, so say Football Insider, on a four-year deal with a medical taking place today.

Tottenham near Archie Gray breakthrough

Spurs are increasingly confident of signing Archie Gray.

Multiple reports now describe talks as moving forward rapidly with agreements on personal terms and a fee in the process of being struck.

Man Utd accelerate Manuel Ugarte talks

Manchester United have accelerated their talks to sign Manuel Ugarte.

The Red Devils are known to be prioritising a move for a new defensive midfielder this summer with Uruguayan Ugarte available to leave PSG.

Sky Sports in Germany report on United getting “serious” in their bid with potential rival interest from Bayern Munich subsiding.

Arsenal keen on £40m Euro 2024 star

The price tag for Riccardo Calafiori is set at £40m.

That’s according to the Express, who report on Arsenal and Juventus joining Liverpool, PSG, Real Madrid and Tottenham in tracking the Bologna centre-back.

With Italy out of Euro 2024, Calafiori’s future may be put under the spotlight a little more.

Bologna are said to prefer not to sell to Serie A rivals Juve, who poached their coach Thiago Motta only weeks ago.

Basel hold a 40 per cent sell-on clause in his contract, which could knock up his fee yet further.

Chelsea striker reveals transfer options

Chelsea striker Armando Broja have claimed that he could sign for teams in three major leagues this summer.

An underwhelming loan spell at Fulham and at Euro 2024 with Albania have harmed the Blues’ chances of bringing in serious cash for Broja.

But he is still likely to leave this summer and told Albania’s RTV Klan what he would say in a hypothetical phone call from AC Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“I would tell him first of all that I am a big fan of his, I have always liked him as a player,” said Broja.

“Milan are a great club, second only to Real Madrid in history. I would tell him that I have to speak to the agent and the family, then I will tell him know.

“It’s true, I have offers from these three championships (Serie A, Bundesliga, Premier League). Staying at Chelsea is an option, I still have a contract with them that expires in many years.”

Earlier in the window, Roma were linked with veteran defender Mats Hummels but that interest subsided. With Chris Smalling up for sale, they could attempt to bag Varane as his replacement.

Spurs could hijack Archie Gray deal

Tottenham are still contenders to sign Archie Gray.

Brentford looked have agreed a deal worth around £35m to sign the young Leeds midfielder, who is highly-rated and available as the Whites look to adhere to financial rules.

But Leeds are now widely reported to have rejected the deal at the last minute.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs says Spurs could yet hijack the move with their own bid.

Liverpool and Chelsea have admired Gray previously but it is Tottenham tipped to make a late swoop, with time running out.

Chelsea in advanced talks to sign Caleb Wiley

Chelsea’s efforts to sign unknown gems (at least from a European perspective) has taken them to Atlanta for a deal to sign Caleb Wiley.

Arsenal boost as Napoli drop Victor Osimhen price

Napoli are prepared to lower their demands for Victor Osimhen in a bid to hasten his exit from the club.

Arsenal along with PSG and Manchester United have been strongly linked with the Nigerian striker, who has a £109m release clause in his contract.

But a lack of buyers for Osimhen at that price is leading to Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis considering a new approach, given he wants to cash in on his player and also get his high wages off the books.

Antonio Conte has long expected to have to prepare for the new campaign without Osimhen and his likely presence at the upcoming start of pre-season training is seen as a blow, given they still don’t see him as a likely part of the team for the coming year.

Romelu Lukaku and Artem Dovbyk are Napoli’s ideal replacements but they must sell Osimhen first.

Marseille confirm Roberto De Zerbi has new manager

Roberto De Zerbi has signed a three-year deal to take over as Marseille head coach.

Marseille revealed earlier this week that an "agreement in principle" had been reached for the former Brighton boss and it has now been made official.

De Zerbi left the Seagulls at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign after a successful 20 months at the Premier League club, where he guided them into the Europa League for the first time.

"I'm delighted to be joining Olympique de Marseille, as I had a very strong desire to join the club," De Zerbi said.

"The history and prestige that surround OM, the passion and fervour of its supporters, and the seriousness and enthusiasm shown to me by Frank (McCourt), Pablo (Longoria) and Medhi (Benatia) were all decisive factors in my decision to embark on this exciting challenge.

"I can't wait to sit on the bench at the Orange Velodrome, this time as OM coach, and help the club regain the position that Marseille deserves."

Chelsea offer Jackson as part of Isak deal

Chelsea and Newcastle have discussed including Nicolas Jackson as part of a deal to take Alexander Isak to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Guardian, the Blues are back in for the Newcastle striker but progress has been slow with the Magpies valuing their star man at around £120million.

In a bid to bring down the price, Chelsea could part ways with Jackson but any deal is still considered unlikely.

Arsenal close in on first summer signing

It’s been a fairly slow start to the summer transfer window at Arsenal.

Still, according to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are set to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, which could then see Aaron Ramsdale depart.

Leeds need to sell and Gray's expected exit as a homegrown player would be accounted for as pure profit.
