Pablo & Igor: West Ham ideal starting lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur - The West Ham Way
Description

West Ham face Tottenham Hotspur in North London this weekend in what is yet again a must win game for Nuno Espirito Santo and the club.

We have to win on Saturday, or the win against QPR will feel pointless. Yes, we got through to the next round of the FA Cup, but that match was nothing more than a confidence booster. A confidence booster to take into this game and beyond, but that small bit of confidence we got from that narrow win against a mid table Championship side will all be gone with another loss.

To give us every chance of getting the win on Saturday, Nuno has to get the mentality of the team right, if we can’t get up for Tottenham away we’ve got no hope of staying up. Not only that, the Portuguese manager has to get the starting lineup spot on.

With Paqueta unlikely to feature as he wants to leave, and Mavropanos injured, there are a couple of selection dilemmas. The first priority has to be to make sure Max Kilman isn’t in the team – i’d choose Igor, Mayers, Golambeckis, or even Magassa in central defence before even thinking about starting Kilman. However, I think Nuno will opt for the Englishman.

My predicted team to face Tottenham Hotspur: Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Mayers, Walker-Peters; Fernandes, Soucek; Summerville, Castellanos, Bowen.

Apart from Kilman, this team wouldn’t be exactly bad, I don’t think we’d see a heavy defeat away at Tottenham with this team as it’s very defensive. However, I think it would struggle to win, and we need to win. We can’t afford to play for draws, especially against a team in such poor form like Spurs, especially at home.

My ideal team to face Tottenham Hotspur: Areola; Walker-Peters, Todibo, Igor, Wan-Bissaka; Potts, Magassa, Fernandes; Summerville, Pablo, Bowen.

The first noticeable difference is the formation, I think we have to start with a back four, we have to go for it. I think Igor is the best option to partner Todibo, I wold have gone for Mayers, but the manager clearly prefers him as a full-back option in a back four, so I didn’t even really consider it. But I would really like to see it.

The most controversial choice is Pablo Felipe over Valentin Castellanos. It may be slightly harsh on Taty after he scored the winner against QPR, however, I think Pablo would be the better option. We haven’t seen him play the proper striker role yet, but I think his ability to hold the ball and link play could really benefit us at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, if Nuno opts for the Argentinian over the Brazilian I wouldn’t complain at all. He might be full of confidence after scoring his first goal in claret and blue, but only people at the club know that.

West Ham receive boost through Spurs injury - The West Ham Way

Tottenham injury U-turn hands West Ham a massive advantage.

After an impressive win against Ipswich, it’s a real shame that the international break followed. Unfortunately, it’s likely to kill any sort of momentum they were building, especially considering they’ve got a tough run of fixtures after the break.

This begins with a trip to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur. While West Ham have been relatively injury free so far this season, with Niclas Fullkrug being the only major one, Spurs have had a fair few already.

Unfortunately, it seemed like the large majority of them would be returning ahead of the London derby. The biggest name they’ve been missing is none other than Son.

While he was initially meant to be back fit for Saturday, Claret and Hugh has reported that this might not be the case. “Son Heung-min could be set to miss West Ham’s next game when they face Tottenham in the Premier League on October 19th. The South Korean star has been carrying a thigh injury that has taken longer to heal than expected. According to the latest reports, he could be in line for a place on the bench at best for Spurs’ next match.”

This is a huge boost to our Irons. Having the opposition without their best player is absolutely massive, but that doesn’t mean the threat is gone. Brennan Johnson has been in world-class form and it is going to be a real struggle to contain him, for example. Every player will need to be at their very best if we are to get a result.

Tottenham have been handed a huge boost ahead of their clash with West Ham as a trio of players are set to return from injury.

West Ham vs Tottenham, from an entertainment perspective, is always one of the best rivalries in the league. It’s not very often the two produce a boring affair.

Ultimately, above all else, it gives the winners bragging rights as the two clubs share a lot of the same catchment areas.

While form usually goes out the window in these London derbies, any little thing can be a massive boost and give either side the edge. Unfortunately, it seems like it could be Spurs who get that push over the line.

According to Premier Injuries, the North London side are set to welcome back Son Heung-Min, Wilson Odobert, and Richarlison for the first game after the international break.

Obviously, this is anything but ideal for the Irons, especially when coupled with an in-form Brennan Johnson and the likes of Maddison also on the up.

Despite their 3-2 defeat to Brighton, West Ham will need to be at their best to beat Tottenham, especially away from home. A win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would do wonders for morale and would be brilliant to get fans on side.

West Ham lead the race to sign former Spurs player - The West Ham Way

West Ham are reportedly leading the race to sign a former Tottenham Hotspur star.

After months of West Ham being linked with him, Steven Bergwijn’s rumoured move to the club never materialised.

Although the number of reports linking him with a move to East London has dropped dramatically, it seems like he may still be someone the Hammers look to bring in as they are keen on signing a winger ahead of the new season.

According to teamTALK, the Hammers are leading the race to sign him from Ajax. The Dutchman managed to contribute 16 goal involvements in just 24 Eredivisie games last season and his side set to demand between £20 and 25 million for his signature.

Unfortunately, his immense form has attracted the interest of a number of clubs from Saudi Arabia and France, meaning that the Irons will need to get the ball rolling soon if they are really that set on signing him.

The report claims that Ajax manager Francesco Farioli has “given up all hope” of keeping hold of his star player. While the money in Saudi Arabia may tempt him, there’s no doubt that he’d love the opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League once again after never really being given a fair chance at Tottenham.

Considering that they need to sign a striker, a right-back and ideally another central defender, shelling out that amount on a winger may not be something they’re willing to do. With that being said, if they do decide to sign Bergwijn they would be getting a great player who’s only just approaching his prime – it could turn out to be great value for money in the end.

West Ham’s hilarious response to rival’s approach for Bowen - The West Ham Way

Tottenham have reportedly enquired about the availability of West Ham’s most important player and the club’s response is brilliant.

With the way things have gone, there’s very little that could stop Jarrod Bowen from going down as a West Ham legend. His last minute winner in the Conference League final means that he is forever cemented in East London folklore and his world-class form over the past season has only further improved his excellent reputation amongst the Hammers fans.

However, if there was anything that could sour this relationship it would be joining West Ham’s bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur. There’s always been a hatred between the two clubs, but that only seems to be intensifying as the years go by.

So when they enquired about the availability of Bowen, HITC reports, there’s only one thing more hilarious and disrespectful than the Hammers just telling Spurs to go do one and that’s giving them a ridiculous price that they can buy him for.

In order to acquire his services, Tottenham were told that they would have to pay £150 million to their London rivals. On paper, this seems like a ludicrous amount and (in all honesty) it probably is. This would make him the third most expensive player of all time which, as much as Bowen’s sensational, he certainly isn’t worth that amount of money – but that’s the point.

The reason the club gave him a seven year contract is so that he stays at the London Stadium for the majority of his career. It would be idiotic to give him that sort of deal and then let him go. That said, if anyone did want to buy him they’d definitely need to pay more than the £105 million Arsenal paid for Declan Rice, which prices the majority of teams out of a move due to PSR and the clubs that can afford him would rather spend their money elsewhere.

It’s laughable that Tottenham even thought they had a chance of signing our star man and it’s fair to say they won’t come back again in a hurry. You can’t blame them though, it would be nice for them to sign someone who knows what it’s like to not bottle it in the big games.
