Tottenham are pushing to land an exciting new signing for Ange Postecoglou ahead of the new Premier League season, it has been revealed.

Spurs continue transfer trend

Recent transfer windows have seen Spurs shy away from big money moves for the most part and instead look to find future gems, as they did with the signing of Udinese defender Destiny Udogie and Metz midfielder Pape Sarr.

They have continued in that vein this summer, signing Archie Gray from Leeds United in a deal worth up to £40m to bolster their midfield, while they have blended that with experience by renewing Timo Werner's loan in north London.

However, targetting young players is a trend that shows no signs of stopping.

Spurs pushing for winger

Now, it has emerged that Tottenham are the side currently pushing the hardest to land Stade Rennais winger Desire Doue amid interest from across Europe. Though just 19, he has already made a lasting impression in France.

Last season, the versatile winger grabbed four goals and five assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances to help Rennes safely into midtable and out of relegation trouble.

Asked about Doue, teammate Baptiste Santamaria was full of praise for the teenager, and revealed that he had never seen such a gifted player.

"He's a very talented player with a great sense of football. But he's still young. But he's a player who aspires to go to the biggest clubs. He's one of a kind: he likes to hit the ball but he's solid on his feet. Desire's technical, percussive and physical qualities are quite incredible. When he becomes more consistent, he'll be unplayable. For his age, he's the most gifted youngster I've seen in my career", he explained.

And Postecoglou is understood to be a big fan of the teenager and wants to bring him to Tottenham this summer, with Rennes understood to be holding out for around £35m to let him leave, a fee that would make him second only to Jeremy Doku in their list of most expensive departures.

With that in mind, transfer journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that the Lilywhites are pushing to get a deal done, stealing a march on other interested parties in the process.

“Links for Desire Doue, but I’m told it’s not Chelsea at the moment who are the club to watch, it is Tottenham who are pushing”, he explained.

“Desire Doue, PSG are one of the suitors, Bayern and Spurs, and Spurs are the ones who are really starting to move now. PSG are there but I’m told that Spurs are the ones who are really starting to circle at this stage.”

Luis Enrique's side are looking to replace Kylian Mbappe this summer, but can already boast both Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele in the wide areas, while Bayern Munich have just added Michael Olise to ranks that already include Serge Gnabry, Kinglsey Coman and Leroy Sane.

As a result, a move to north London and the Premier League may prove surprisingly enticing for Doue, who would be likely to see plenty of first team football, even if Postecoglou's side are not in the Champions League for the 2024-25 campaign.

However, he still has two years left to run on his £8.5k per week deal with Rennes, which means that he could well opt for another season in France before making the next step in his career.

Should Spurs manage to persuade him otherwise and get the deal over the line, it would represent a massive coup for the Lilywhites.

Spurs confident of landing £20k-p/w "monster" who's like Watkins

We are only days away from the dramatic conclusion of the European Championships and finding out if football really is coming home this summer or if it's taking a detour to Madrid.

The country will be watching with bated breath on Sunday evening, but the Tottenham Hotspur recruitment team will be watching the match for a different reason.

Based on recent reports, Daniel Levy and Co will be focussing on one of the England players who's been touted for a move to N17 this summer, and while it's not semi-final hero Ollie Watkins, the star in question has been compared to him in the past.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Dean Jones via GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are still interested in signing Brentford's Ivan Toney this summer.

Alongside the Lilywhites, Jones has revealed that Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham United have also been considering the £20k-per-week ace recently, setting the stage for an exciting transfer battle.

However, he states that sources close to the North Londoners believe they could make a 'serious push' for the striker and that the longer he remains on the market, the more likely they'll be able to secure his services for closer to £40m and not the £60m the Bees value him at.

It could be a tough deal to get over the line, especially if he stars in the final on Sunday, but based on his performances in his last full season, it is one worth pursuing, and the comparisons to Watkins are just a massive bonus.

How Toney compares to Watkins

It would be fair to say that as campaigns go, last season was not a great one for Toney.

Upon the completion of his eight-month betting-related ban, he scored just four goals and provided two assists in 17 appearances, and while that's not horrific for a player in arguably the most challenging league in the world, it's a far cry from his two previous campaigns in the top flight in which he racked up 20 plus goal involvements.

So, with that in mind, it wouldn't be fair to judge his ability off the back of a down year in which he had to deal with an extraordinary challenge off the pitch in the form of his ban, and unsurprisingly, the comparisons to Watkins do not stem from the 2023/24 season.

Instead, it comes from FBref, which compared Premier League forwards in 2022/23 and created a list of the ten most similar players for each one. In the case of the Brentford man, they ranked Villa ace as the most similar striker in the league.

This conclusion is easier to understand when looking at how closely the pair ranks in several underlying metrics, such as non-penalty expected goals and assists, actual non-penalty goals, progressive passes received, shots, goals per shot, key passes, tackles won and successful take-ons, all per 90.

Alongside their underlying numbers, the pair have also proven themselves to be prolific forwards in the top flight.

In that season in particular, the former Exeter City gem scored 16 goals and provided six assists to the Northampton-born star's 21 goals and five assists.

Spurs now favourites to land "superstar" Johnson upgrade for £60m

It has been four weeks since the transfer window officially opened, and while Tottenham Hotspur made quite a splash by spending £30m on signing Leeds United's Archie Gray last week, they've got plenty more to do.

Daniel Levy and Co must get their recruitment right this summer if they are going to progress under the exciting management of Ange Postecoglou, and based on recent reports, that looks like it is happening.

The latest player touted for a move to N17 is one of the most influential attackers in the Premier League, although his arrival could spell trouble for Brennan Johnson.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from journalist Dean Jones via GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are very interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto this summer.

Alongside the Lilywhites, Jones claims that Newcastle United are chasing the talented winger. The good news is that the North Londoners are clear favourites at present, thanks to the allure of European football and London.

However, just because Spurs are in pole position to land the player doesn't mean he'll come cheap. According to the report, the Old Gold value their star winger at around £60m.

Signing Neto would represent a serious investment in the first team, but based on his performances last season, one well worth making - even if it puts Johnson's place in the team at risk.

How Neto compares to Johnson

Now, if Neto does make his way south to N17 this summer, one of his main competitors for a space in the starting lineup will be last summer's £47m man, Johnson.

So, how do the pair stack up with one another? Well, from a pure output perspective, it's an interesting one.

For example, the former Nottingham Forest ace scored five goals and provided ten assists last season, while the Wolves ace scored three goals and provided 11 assists. So it's the Spurs man who comes out on top, right? Not necessarily.

The Welshman racked up 15 goals and assists in 38 appearances, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 2.5 games. In contrast, the Portuguese "superstar", as dubbed by pundit and former professional Jamie Carragher, produced his 14 goals and assists in just 24 appearances, equating to a more impressive average of one goal involvement every 1.71 games.

Now, the reasons the former Lazio man has a far more impressive ratio of games-to-goal involvements also highlight one of his significant issues: his injury history.

Last season alone, he missed 19 games through injury, so the Lilywhites will have to seriously consider this over the coming weeks. However, with the number of rightwingers at Postecoglou's disposal, he could potentially rest the 24-year-old more often to keep him fresh and firing, which in turn could help Johnson play more often as well.

Ultimately, Neto is a more effective and direct winger than Johnson when he is on the pitch, and if the North Londoners want to create a more lethal frontline this summer, then signing him would be a great start.

Moreover, while his injury problem is certainly something that should be considered, rotating him in and out of the side depending on the magnitude of the match could see the other wingers in the team continue to pick up meaningful minutes.

Outscored Son & Richarlison: Spurs target £42m ace who's like Watkins

The Euros are coming to a climactic conclusion this weekend as England have somehow slugged their way into the final to face off against the competition's great entertainers, Spain.

The Three Lions made it past the Netherlands in the Semi-final thanks to a spot kick from former Tottenham Hotspur icon Harry Kane and a last-minute goal from substitute Ollie Watkins.

However, while the tournament has transfixed the whole country over the last month or so, Premier League clubs have been hard at work in the transfer market.

In fact, based on recent reports, the latest striker touted for a move to N17 has won comparisons to England's most recent hero, Watkins, and outscored Son Heung-min and Richarlison last season.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Caught Offside, Tottenham have maintained their long-term interest in Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the story has revealed that their North London rivals Arsenal and Italian giants Napoli are also keen to land the Mexican's services this summer.

No price is mentioned, but a report out of Italy in May claimed that a fee of around €50m would be enough to tempt the Dutch side into selling, which is around £42m.

It might still be a sizeable investment, but given how well he played last season and his flattering comparisons to Watkins, Daniel Levy and Co should be doing all they can to sign Gimenez.

Gimenez's comparisons to Watkins

Now, before getting onto Gimenez's impressive goalscoring record, let's take a look at this comparison to England's recent hero, Watkins.

It stems from FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues. In the Mexican's case, they consider the Aston Villa ace to be the eighth most similar forward.

This conclusion is easier to understand when looking at their respective underlying numbers.

For example, they rank very similar in metrics such as progressive passes and carries, aerial duels won, carries into the penalty area, and shot and goal-creating actions, all per 90.

It's not just his similarity to the England ace that makes the "insane" Feyenoord star, as dubbed by U23 scout Antonio Mango, worth signing; he's also incredibly prolific in front of goal.

In fact, his tally of 26 goals and eight assists is better than anything a Spurs player could muster, including Son, who scored 17 goals and provided ten assists in 36 games, and Richarlison, who found the back of the net 12 times and produced four assists in 31 matches.

Ultimately, Gimenez looks to be an outstanding attacking talent, and his comparisons to Watkins and proficiency in front of goal should be all the reasons Levy and Co need to pull the trigger and bring him to N17 this summer.

Tottenham showing sudden desire to sign £50m Brazilian "in recent days"

Tottenham have displayed a sudden interest in signing a £50 million Brazil international "in recent days", as Spurs look to back manager Ange Postecoglou ahead of his second full season in charge of the club.

Spurs targeting new central midfielder for Postecoglou

Widespread reports indicate that a new midfield number six is firmly on the agenda in north London this summer, coming amid the uncertainty surrounding a few squad members in that position.

Denmark international Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is keen to leave Spurs after losing his starting place under Postecoglou last season, as reported by Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg.

Hojbjerg actually featured in 39 games across all competitions, but only a handful of those cameos were full starts. The 28-year-old's contract expires next summer as well, so now is the right time for chairman Daniel Levy to sell Hojbjerg and make some money back off the £20 million they paid to bring him in from Southampton.

Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Giovani Lo Celso also struggled for consistent opportunities in Postecoglou's debut managerial season. Multiple reports from reliable sources state that Tottenham want to use Lo Celso in a player-plus-cash bid to sign Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa but it remains to be seen whether Unai Emery's side will give in to their advances.

In any case, Lo Celso's future appears far away from N17, with the Argentine's contract also set to expire next summer. Postecoglou is rumoured to want a new midfield number six more tailor-made to his system, leading to Tottenham's interest in Chelsea star Conor Gallagher among others.

Gallagher's own expiring contract, which is also set to run out in 2025, could make him a transfer opportunity for Spurs and other interested sides with Chelsea under some pressure to sell this summer or agree on an extension.

The history between Tottenham and Chelsea as bitter rivals could make this a complicated deal, though, so the Lilywhites do have alternative options to pursue.

Tottenham show sudden interest in signing Joao Gomes

According to South American reporter Valentin Furlan, Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is somebody Tottenham are considering.

The Brazilian, who's estimated to be worth around £50 million, impressed under Gary O'Neil last season and even managed to earn call-ups to the national team. Tottenham have shown a sudden interest "in recent days" to sign Gomes, according to Furlan, and it is believed the Molineux side are open to selling him for good market value.

Gomes joined Wolves from Brasileirao side Flamengo for just £15 million in January 2023, making 34 league appearances in his full debut season last campaign.

Tottenham are now prepared to take a £22 million loss by selling one high-earning member of Ange Postecoglou's squad at a cut-price this summer.

Players who could still be sold by Spurs

Joe Rodon is the latest player to depart Spurs after Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic and Tanguy Ndombele all left north London before the Welshman, following the cancellation or expiry of their contracts.

Tanganga has joined Millwall on a Bosman deal after spending 2023/2024 on loan at The Den, while both Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic continue their stays at Bayern Munich and Hadjuk Split respectively.

After Spurs mutually agreed to terminate Ndombele's deal, five years after they signed him for a club-record fee from Lyon, the Frenchman has now put pen to paper on a move back to his homeland with OGC Nice.

Rodon, meanwhile, re-joined Leeds to the tune of £10 million with English sensation Archie Gray heading the other way for £40 million (Fabrizio Romano). The centre-back was out of favour under Postecoglou, but his terrific form at Elland Road last season gave Daniel Levy leverage in negotiating a move for Gray.

More players are expected to follow the aforementioned crop out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium exit door. Indeed, AC Milan remain in talks with Tottenham over a deal for Emerson Royal, who wants a San Siro move with personal terms verbally agreed.

Bryan Gil, Djed Spence, Giovani Lo Celso, Troy Parrott, Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Manor Solomon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are other players who could be sold by Tottenham this summer, but the trick for Levy is finding a suitable buyer.

Another player who appears destined to leave in the coming weeks is left-back Sergio Reguilon. The Spaniard spent last season on two half-season loan spells at Man United and Brentford, with reports suggesting Reguilon is set to leave Tottenham amid interest from Erik ten Hag and other suitors.

Tottenham ready to accept cut-price Sergio Reguilon bid

According to Football Insider and journalist Wayne Veysey, Tottenham are now ready to take a £22 million loss on Reguilon by accepting cut-price bids as low as £10 million.

They originally signed the 27-year-old for around £32 million from Sevilla in 2020, including add-ons, but would green-light his exit for £10m as they seek to get Reguilon's £120,000-per-week wages off the books.

This could be an enticing draw for interested parties like United, and given Reguilon's contract has just one year left to run, it appears Levy has little choice but to make him available at a discounted rate.

Bid expected: Spurs making move to sign their next Gareth Bale

The European Championships are set for a dramatic conclusion this Sunday as England look to put the ghost of 2021 to bed against Spain.

However, away from the two finalists, there have been a plethora of standout players across the last four weeks.

Unsurprisingly, a number of these players have been consistently linked to some of the biggest clubs in Europe, and based on recent reports, Tottenham Hotspur are particularly keen on one player who almost made it to the semi-finals.

The star in question has courted interest from across the continent in recent weeks and has even been compared to a previous Spurs great, Gareth Bale.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Turkey, Tottenham Hotspur are one of several sides interested in signing Galatasaray star Baris Alper Yılmaz.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the story has revealed that Manchester United are keen on the Turkish star, and both teams are expected to make offers in the coming days.

The interest from the Red Devils is far from ideal for Daniel Levy and Co, but the good news is that another report from Turkey earlier this month claimed that the Süper Lig giants would be willing to sell their talented ace for around €30m, which is about £25m.

It's not necessarily cheap, but given his performances last season at the Euros and his comparison to Bale, it may prove to be a bargain in the long term.

Yılmaz's comparisons to Bale

Now, comparing a player that, before this summer, few fans in England would've known much about to one of the greatest British footballers of all time may seem a tad extreme, but there are some similarities.

The original comparison came from Yılmaz's former coach, Ilker Puren, who told GS Gazette (via the Express), "I compare Baris Alper Yilmaz to Gareth Bale in terms of strength. He has the ability to sprint three or four meters after eliminating the opponent with the ball."

That ability to burst past a player before rifling the ball into the top corner was an iconic image of the Welshman's time in the Premier League, and while the Turkish international wasn't quite that deadly at the Euros, he started every game and was a thorn in the side of opposition defenders.

However, it's not just his ability to beat a man and run at goal that has earned him comparisons to the former Real Madrid man; it's also his positional versatility.

Across his career, the Cardiff-born superstar moved from a left-back to a left-sided midfielder before finding his true home on the right wing. Along the way, he also played on the left wing, as a centre-forward, and in midfield at times, and this ability to play almost anywhere on the pitch is something the Turkish international shares with him.

For example, he has started 66 games on the left wing, 64 on the right, ten at right-back, eight at left-back, eight at centre-forward, two in attacking midfield and even one as a second striker.

Lastly, while the comparisons to Bale are certainly exciting, the 24-year-old dynamo looks to be a quality addition in his own right. In 55 appearances all over the pitch last season, he scored seven goals and provided 12 assists, which equates to a goal involvement every 2.89 games.

Tottenham set to lodge official bid for £24 million forward within days

Tottenham are set to lodge an official bid for one £24 million forward in the next few days, as Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou seeks fresh attacking options.

Spurs target new forward signing in multiple positions

The north Londoners are believed to be after both a new winger and potentially even an out-and-out striker to replace Harry Kane, with chairman Daniel Levy, technical director Johan Lange and the wider recruitment team identifying targets.

Sky Sports shared this week that RB Leipzig star Lois Openda has been considered by Spurs as they seek a versatile new forward options, alongside both Lille striker Jonathan David and Wolves winger Pedro Neto.

As widely reported, Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze is also a target for Tottenham and there is a belief among some media outlets that Levy is willing to pay the entirety of his £60 million release clause.

Tottenham relied on the likes of Son Heung-min and Richarlison for the majority of their attacking output during Postecoglou's debut campaign in the dugout, with the duo racking up 29 goals and 14 assists in all competitions between them.

However, there have been some rumours that Spurs are open to letting Richarlison leave for the right offer, despite his 2023/2024 purple patch. The Brazilian, who signed from Everton two summers ago for around £60 million, is thought to be attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.

With Richarlison's future uncertain, alongside the likes of Bryan Gil and Manor Solomon, the need for another forward option becomes more prevalent - regardless of Spurs' loan extension for Timo Werner.

Tottenham set to lodge official bid for Baris Yilmaz

According to Turkish journalist Ali Naci Küçük, a forward thought to be turning heads at N17 is Galatasaray star Baris Yilmaz.

The 24-year-old winger bagged seven goals and 12 assists across 55 appearances in all competitions at club level last season, and started every single game of Turkey's Euro 2024 campaign.

He can also play on both the right and left-hand side, even featuring as a centre-forward on rare occasions. The Turkish Super Lig ace has seemingly done enough to impress north London officials, as Küçük explains that Tottenham will make an "official" offer for Yilmaz "in the coming days".

Aston Villa in talks to sign new CM who'd brilliantly replace Ramsey

Description

During his time as manager of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Aston Villa and French giants Paris Saint Germain, Unai Emery has coached some of Europe’s biggest stars. These players have helped him become a manager synonymous with winning silverware, with his trophy cabinet including four Champions Leagues and one Ligue 1 title.

The Spaniard has the fortune of managing both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar during his spell in Paris. Both boasted an unbelievable record under Emery, with the Frenchman scoring 21 goals and registering 16 assists in 44 games and the Brazil legend playing 30 times for Emery, scoring 28 goals with 18 assists.

The likes of Edinson Cavani, who scored 89 times in 98 games for Emery’s PSG side, Angel Di Maria and Thiago Silva also played under the Spanish manager during his stint as PSG manager.

Some of Emery’s other notable players include Spain legend David Villa, who played for Emery 88 times as a Valencia player, scoring 59 goals and assisting once, and former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata, also for Valencia.

With the transfer window now open, Emery has been linked with another of his former players, who could join Villa and reunite with the Spaniard.

Aston Villa could sign Premier League midfielder

The player in question here is Tottenham Hotspur and Argentina midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso. The 28-year-old has struggled to become a regular at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and could depart the club this summer.

This is according to a report from Football Insider which believes the Villans are in talks with Ange Postecoglou’s side over a potential 'three-player swap deal' this summer.

According to the report, Jacob Ramsey is set to go the other way and make the switch to North London, as well as another, unnamed Villa player, in exchange for Lo Celso and a sum of money.

The Lilywhites are hoping to 'reduce the cash outlay' by offering the Argentine to the Midlands side, which means they have to pay less upfront for Ramsey. It's claimed the Villans value the 23-year-old at around £50m, with Spurs hoping to bring that down and are happy to let Lo Celso go in exchange.

Why Lo Celso would be a good signing

Since joining Spurs, Lo Celso has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot. He has gone out on loan twice, to Villarreal both times, where Emery managed him for the second time, having also coached him whilst PSG boss. Interstingly, the Spaniard is the coach Lo Celso has played under the most times.

The 2024/24 season was a very frustrating campaign for the Argentina international, who is currently representing his nation at the Copa America. He played just 24 times in all competitions, with 22 of those appearances coming in the Premier League. However, his 597 minutes in that time equated to just 6.6 full 90 minutes on average.

Should Lo Celso switch to Villa Park as the direct Ramsey replacement, we will get to see him reignite his partnership with Emery. The 28-year-old is clearly highly regarded by the Spaniard; before the pair linked up once again at Villarreal, Emery explained they brought him in because he is a very “versatile” footballer. Lo Celso returned the compliment, explaining his former boss is so good to work with because he knows “what he can give you”.

In terms of how the Argentine compares to Ramsey, they are both number 10s who like to get on the ball in pockets of space behind the striker and drive forward with the ball.

According to Fbref, Lo Celso averaged 4.46 progressive carries and 3.57 carries into the final third per 90 minutes last season. In comparison, Ramsey averaged 3.47 progressive carries and two carries into the final third, slightly fewer although still impressive output.

A carry is considered progressive if the ball is moved towards the opponent's goal at least 10 yards from its starting point or is carried into the penalty area.

One area Lo Celso excels over the Englishman according to the stats is in his creative passing numbers. Last season, the 28-year-old averaged 3.21 key passes compared to Ramsey’s 1.05 per 90, with his expected assists 0.35xA, with Ramsey averaging just 0.15xA per game.

Expected Assists (xA) is a metric designed to measure the probability of a pass becoming a goal assist.

So, should they add Lo Celso to their squad, Villa would be bringing in an experienced player who knows what it takes to play under Emery. The Argentine has great quality on the ball and could be an excellent option to replace Ramsey as one of those number 10s in Emery’s famed 4-2-2-2 system because of his technical ability and eye for a pass. It could be a match made in heaven.

Spurs struck gold on incredible star who's worth way more than Dani Olmo

The European Championships are coming to an end this week, the transfer window is starting to heat up, and Tottenham Hotspur look ready to splash the cash.

The Lilywhites have already made the shocking signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United for around £30m and have seen players like Eberechi Eze and Jonathan David constantly linked to them for the last few weeks.

However, one of the latest players touted for a move to N17 is Spain and Euros star Dani Olmo.

While he'd be an incredible addition to Ange Postecoglou's squad, the Australian already has a talented creator worth way more than him at the club.

The latest on Dani Olmo to Tottenham Hotspur

According to a report from journalist Dean Jones this week via GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are one of several teams interested in signing Olmo this summer.

Daniel Levy and Co will have to stump up around £51m to activate his release clause and get ahead of the other interested parties, which include Manchester City and Chelsea, to secure the 26-year-old's services.

It could be a tough deal to get over the line, but if they can do it, the North Londoners would have another very talented player on their hands and one who could thrive in Postecoglou's progressive system.

For example, according to FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues, the Spaniard is in the top 9% of attacking midfielders and wingers for expected assists, the top 12% for total shots, the top 14% for interceptions and the top 15% for non-penalty expected goals and assists, all per 90.

Moreover, his raw output is just as impressive. Last season, he scored eight goals and provided five assists in just 25 appearances, equating to a goal involvement every 1.92 games. For Spain, he's produced 20 goal involvements in 38 matches, which is one every 1.90 games on average.

In all, it makes perfect sense why Spurs are keen to sign Olmo and why he's worth so much, but at the same time, the club already have an exciting attacking player worth even more than him.

James Maddison's valuaiton in 2024

Yes, the man in question is James Maddison, who joined Spurs from Leicester City for £40m last summer as the club's marquee signing.

The Englishman's first campaign with the Lilywhites was a mixed one. He started by producing eight goal involvements in his first ten full league games, but upon returning from an injury he suffered in his 11th match, he struggled to have quite the same level of impact.

For example, in his final 17 league appearances, he could only muster five goal involvements for Postecoglou's side. However, considering the entire team's form dropped off a cliff in the final part of the year - losing five of seven games - it's hard to blame him.

Moreover, according to FBref, the "incredible" dynamo, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, sits in the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers for shot-creating actions and progressive passes, the top 2% for attempted passes, the top 7% for assists and the top 17% for pass completion, all per 90.

Add to this the fact that he scored ten goals and provided nine assists in 32 appearances for Leicester in his final season with them, and it's clear that his slight dip in form towards the end of 2023/24 was just that, a slight dip.

With this in mind, it makes sense that Transfermarkt has valued the Coventry-born dynamo at €70m, which is around £59m, or £8m more than Olmo might cost the club this summer.

Ultimately, if Levy and Co. have an opportunity to sign the Leipzig ace in the coming weeks, then they should take it. However, they shouldn't lose faith in Maddison, as he's still an incredibly talented player, and his lofty valuation reflects that.
