After a mixed debut season with Ange Postecoglou at the helm, Tottenham Hotspur have a massive summer ahead of them.

The North Londoners managed to qualify for the Europa League, but to take the next step and really push the teams at the top of the Premier League, Daniel Levy and Co will have to land the Australian some seriously talented players in the coming weeks and months.

Luckily, the latest player touted for a move to N17 just enjoyed a brilliant campaign and has won comparisons to England international Declan Rice.

According to a recent report from journalist Ben Jacobs via Playback TV, Tottenham are still interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and are "expected to bid" for the Englishman this summer.

Alongside the Lilywhites, Jacobs confirmed that La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are also keen on the midfielder and have already seen an offer worth £20m plus bonuses rejected.

He goes on to reveal that the Pensioners want a fee of around £55m for the Cobham graduate, but the player himself would rather stay at Stamford Bridge.

It could be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but with how well he played last season, one worth pursuing - the comparisons to Rice are just a bonus.

Now, the first thing to address is this comparison to Rice, and while he might not be the most popular of people on the white side of North London, he's a brilliant player to be compared to.

It primarily stems from FBref, which looks at all players across Europe's top five leagues and creates a list of the ten most similar players in their position for each one. In this case, they consider the Arsenal man the tenth most similar midfielder to Gallagher.

The best way to see the areas where the two stars overlap is to look at their most similar underlying numbers.

In this case, that includes metrics such as non-penalty expected goals and assists, actual assists, shots on target, passing accuracy, tackles and tackles won, interceptions and goal-creating actions, all per 90.

Shot-creating actions are pieces of play that lead to a shot. These include moments such as a pass, take-on or foul being drawn.

However, the pair don't just share similar underlying numbers for key metrics; they are also semi-versatile midfielders who can adapt to playing in several different roles in the middle of the park, depending on what their team needs.

For example, last season, the Chelsea "monster", as dubbed by respected analyst EBL, started 21 games in attacking midfield, 18 in central midfield, eight in defensive midfield and two off to the left. Likewise, Arteta started his £105m man in defensive midfield 30 times, central midfield 19 times and even as a centre-back once.

Moreover, like the former West Ham United captain, the Epsom-born gem was a source of goal involvements last season, racking up seven goals and nine assists in 50 appearances to the Arsenal man's seven goals and ten assists in 51 games.

Ultimately, like Rice, Gallagher has proven that not only can he influence proceedings at the sharp end of the pitch, but he can also make a serious contribution in the middle of the park and in defence.

Therefore, while the money involved is undoubtedly significant, Levy and Co should do what they can to bring him to N17, as he could be transformational in Postecoglou's midfield.

The transfer window has been open for almost four weeks now, and while most of the footballing world has been focused on the European Championships and Copa América during that time, Tottenham Hotspur have been hard at work.

The Lilywhites have been linked to a plethora of talented players, including Eberechi Eze and Jonathan David, and completed their first permanent signing of the window last week with Leeds United's young star, Archie Gray.

However, there's no rest for the wicked, and based on recent reports, it looks like Daniel Levy and Co have identified their next target who has seen his stock shoot up this week thanks to his heroics for Spain, and he's someone who'd be unreal alongside James Maddison.

According to a recent report from journalist Dean Jones via GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are one of several teams keen on signing RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo this summer.

Alongside the North Londoners, Jones has revealed that Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all interested in landing the Spanish international, who is available for £51m thanks to a release clause in his contract.

It wouldn't be an easy or cheap transfer to get over the line, but given how well he played last season and his impressive performances in the Euros, it looks like one well worth pursuing - especially as his partnership with Maddison could be special.

Why Olmo would be a great signing for Maddison

There are a couple of reasons why Olmo would be such a great signing and teammate for Maddison, and the first one is incredibly simple: his output.

In just 25 appearances for Leipzig last season, the 26-year-old dynamo scored eight goals and provided five assists, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 1.92 games and did so primarily from the wings.

In contrast, only Son Heung-min, who racked up 27, and Brennan Johnson, who returned 15, produced more goal involvements from the wing for Spurs last season, and the latter made nine more appearances than the Terrassa-born star.

Therefore, if the former Leicester City ace had the "magic" Spaniard, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, to his right or left at points next season, he may well be able to improve his own return of four goals and nine assists from last season.

The second reason signing the 5 foot 9 ace would benefit the North Londoners' co-vice-captain is that it would allow the Englishman to rest more, which, considering his injury history, would be a massive bonus.

The former Dinamo Zagreb star may have played most of last season out on the wing, but throughout his career, he has started more games in an attacking midfield role - 131, to be exact.

Ultimately, Olmo's signing would likely bring more goals and assists to Spurs' frontline, which in turn would help Maddison's own creative numbers. He'd also be able to play in attacking midfield, which would help the former Foxes man manage his minutes and fitness.

Therefore, signing the Spanish international for £51m seems like a no-brainer, and something Levy and Co should be all over.

Tottenham are believed to be in talks with a three-player swap deal involving Giovani Lo Celso and a £50 million ace, coming after making a "new proposal" behind the scenes.

Spurs targeting new midfield No 6 for Postecoglou

Uncertainty surrounds the futures of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Lo Celso, with both midfield men tipped by some reports to leave N17 in the coming weeks.

Hojbjerg is believed to be keen on departing Tottenham, after a Premier League campaign where he was largely relegated to Ange Postecoglou's substitutes' bench. The Denmark international started just eight out of his 36 top-flight matches, and could seek to move on as a result with his contract also expiring next year.

Lo Celso is also rumoured to be unhappy with his game time at Spurs, which may result in the Argentine pushing to quit this summer. Some reports have even claimed Tottenham would be open to selling Yves Bissouma for the right offer, so Postecoglou's midfield could look pretty different next season, depending on developments.

In any case, it's been claimed that Spurs are targeting a midfield No 6 to potentially replace one of the outgoing men, but also to hand Postecoglou a new option more tailor-made to the Australian's system.

Tottenham have long been linked with a move for Conor Gallagher, as pressure grows on Chelsea to sell the Englishman before his contract expires next year. Another midfielder Spurs like is Atalanta star Ederson, with ex-managing director and unofficial advisor Fabio Paratici recommending him.

As has been widely reported by reliable media sources, Aston Villa starlet Jacob Ramsey is also a candidate for the Lilywhites midfield. Ramsey, who made 16 top-flight appearances under Unai Emery last term, is liked by Postecoglou and technical director Johan Lange is said to be pushing for the north Londoners to strike a deal (Alasdair Gold).

It will be a difficult move to pull off, though, as Villa are holding firm on their not-for-sale stance as things stand after Tottenham had an opening player-plus-cash bid of £20 million and Lo Celso rejected.

That isn't to stop Spurs from trying, as an update emerges on their pursuit of Ramsey this week.

Tottenham in talks over three-player swap deal for Ramsey

According to Football Insider and journalist Wayne Veysey, Tottenham are in talks over a three-player swap deal involving Ramsey and another unnamed Villa player.

This "new proposal" apparently still includes Lo Celso going in the opposite direction, but as of yet, it is unclear who the other player is who would be making the move to Tottenham with Ramsey.

Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy are willing to pay £60 million for an "ice-cold" forward, which would be enough to complete a deal.

Spurs expected to make more attacking signings

Timo Werner comes as Spurs' first outright attacking addition of this summer, with the German putting pen to paper on a loan extension which will see him remain in north London until the end of next season.

The new deal includes an £8.5 million option to buy him outright next summer, as widely reported, which is some way below the £15 million buy clause which Spurs originally agreed with Leipzig in January.

While Werner is staying is undoubtedly good news for Ange Postecoglou, who keeps a versatile and pacey forward tailor-made to his interchangeable system, it remains the case that Spurs are in the market for new attackers.

Tottenham are believed to be contenders for the signing of Desire Doue from Rennes, among others, as technical director Johan Lange and Levy scour the market for exciting forwards.

Palace have already lost Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, and there is a growing number of clubs eyeing up a move for defender Marc Guehi, following his impressive campaign at the Euros.

Eze could well join both Guehi and Olise out the door, given the attacker's contract includes a £60 million release clause which would render Palace powerless to stop his exit from Selhurst Park.

According to The Sun, Tottenham are willing spend £60 million to trigger Eze's release clause, with league champions Man City willing to do exactly the same thing.

This would make the "ice-cold" 25-year-old one of Spurs' most expensive ever signings, showing just how highly they rate the former QPR star. Interestingly, pundit Alan Hutton has previously backed Levy to pay £60m for Eze.

“He just goes out and plays with a smile on his face, he plays with a lot of freedom and he’s got so much attacking quality," said Hutton to Tottenham News.

"He can score goals, he can assist, these are the type of guys you need and he’s been rewarded for his good form by being picked for the England squad.

“I think he could go and be a shining star so £60million is right. You look at some of the prices that are getting banded around now for players that aren’t as good, so I can understand that. If he’s going to be available for that price, I think Levy will spend it.”

It's set to be an incredibly important summer for Tottenham Hotspur this year as Daniel Levy and Co hunt out the best players to help support Ange Postecoglou's lofty ambitions in North London.

The Australian endured a mixed debut campaign with the club, but with Europa League football secured, there were more positives than negatives.

That said, with six teams scoring more goals than them last season, there is clearly some room for improvement up top, and based on recent reports, they may well get that improvement.

The latest player touted for a move to N17 would be a seismic signing, breaking the club's transfer record and signalling to the rest of the league that they mean business - although it might not be great news for Richarlison.

According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Tottenham have made signing a new, versatile forward a 'priority' this summer and have identified RB Leipzig's Loïs Openda as a potential target.

The report claims that no bids or offers have been made thus far and does not mention a potential price, but another report from Caught Offside earlier this year revealed that the German club have placed a massive €100m price tag on the player's head this summer, which converts to around £84m.

This enormous price is due partly to his impressive form but also because he has a €80m release clause - £68m - which will kick in next summer.

It would be an extraordinary transfer to get over the line, but Spurs have plenty of money to spend, and if they want to help Postecoglou realise his aims in the coming season, then signing Openda would go a long way in doing that, even if it spells trouble for Richarlison.

How Openda compares to Richarlison

If Spurs are able to acquire Openda this summer, his primary competition for the striker role in Postecoglou's team would be Richarlison. But how do the pair compare?

Well, from a pure output perspective, it's hardly even a competition at all. In 45 appearances last season, the "terrifying" Belgian marksman, as journalist Seb Stafford-Bloor dubbed him, scored 28 goals and provided seven assists, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 1.28 games for Leipzig.

In comparison, the Lilywhites' Brazilian striker scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances, and while that is still an impressive rate of return, his average of a goal involvement every 1.93 games is notably worse than the man who could replace him.

Okay, so what about what's going on under the hood then?

Does the former RC Lens gem also boast superior underlying numbers? Unfortunately for the former Everton ace, the answer is a resounding yes.

For example, aside from progressive passes and passing accuracy, the 24-year-old comes out on top in most other relevant metrics, such as non-penalty expected goals and assists, progressive carries, shots and shots on target, key passes, shot and goal-creating actions, and successful take-ons, all per 90.

Ultimately, Richarlison is a talented player, but over the last two seasons, he just hasn't shown enough to suggest he's the striker to take Spurs forward, and while Openda will cost a King's ransom, his performances last season and underlying numbers indicate he'd be more than worth it.

After a relatively quiet start to the summer window, Tottenham Hotspur have burst into life over the last week or so, seeing more and more players linked with the club and, most importantly, making the statement signing of wonderkid Archie Gray from Leeds United for £30m.

However, Daniel Levy and Co don't look finished there as, while the young 18-year-old has a bright future ahead of him, Ange Postecoglou also needs players who can come in and instantly improve his squad, players like Eberechi Eze.

The Crystal Palace midfielder has been consistently linked with the club over the last month or so, and based on recent reports, the latest player touted for a move to N17 could form a brilliant partnership with him next season.

Why David would be a great teammate for Eze

Now, without being too obvious here, the main reason that David would be such a great teammate for Eze, and vice versa for that matter, is his output.

In just 47 appearances for Lille last season, the 24-year-old scored 26 goals and provided nine assists, which equates to a goal involvement every 1.34 games, and it wasn't a one-off either.

Over the last four campaigns, the New York-born poacher has scored 84 goals and provided 18 assists in 183 club appearances, meaning that he averaged a goal involvement every 1.79 games over a four-year period.

With such an impressive level of consistent output under his belt at a relatively young age, it's easy to see why Canadian journalist Tony Marinaro described the 52-capped international as "one of the best strikers in the world."

Speaking of international football, he has been incredible in this area of the game as well. In those 52 caps, he has racked up 27 goals and 16 assists, which works out to be a frankly absurd average of a goal involvement every 1.20 games.

Now imagine how productive someone like Eze could be playing alongside the "mind-blowing" Canadian, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig.

Not only would the Englishman's creative numbers explode thanks to the striker's proficiency in front of goal, but given the sheer number of assists the former Gent man provides, the Palace ace's goalscoring numbers would likely increase from the already impressive 11 in 31 from last season.

Ultimately, while bringing Eze in alone would help improve Spurs' squad, signing him alongside the incredible David could help catapult the club back up to the Premier League next season.

Spurs targeting replacement for Harry Kane this summer

One item on Spurs' list of summer agendas is to finally replace club-record goalscorer and Lilywhites legend Harry Kane, coming nearly a year after he departed for Bayern Munich in a multi-million pound deal.

The 30-year-old has gone on to make 45 appearances in all competitions for the Bavarians thus far, scoring an incredible 44 goals and registering 12 assists in that time, and Spurs were tipped to really miss Kane's proficiency over Postecoglou's debut campaign in the dugout.

Tottenham did manage to cope well without their former superstar, though, with Postecoglou even recording the best start made by any new manager in Premier League history. The bulk of their goals came courtesy of Son Heung-min and Richarlison, who grabbed 29 between them with a further 14 assists to boot across all competitions.

However, there are some doubts over Richarlison's suitability to lead the line going forward, despite the Brazilian's phenomenal mid-season purple patch. Reports have suggested that Tottenham are even open to selling Richarlison for the right offer, amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

A host of interesting options have been named as striker candidates on Tottenham's summer transfer wishlist. Ivan Toney is thought to be attracting Spurs interest, with the England star contributing well when called upon by Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024.

The 28-year-old, who racked up 20 league goals the season before last, has entered the final 12 months of his contract - which could force Brenford to sell for a lower than desired fee.

Toney isn't the only striker linked with a move to N17, as Sky Sports detail other names they've been considering in a report this week.

As well as the likes of Lille striker Jonathan David, Sky claim that RB Leipzig star Lois Openda is a target for the Lilywhites as well.

Spurs are after a forward with versatility, and the 24-year-old is thought to fit the bill in this respect. Tottenham have looked at signing Openda for Postecoglou, despite other claims he could cost as much as £85 million, but it remains to be seen if they decide to formalise their interest with an offer to test Leipzig's resolve.

This isn't the first time they've been linked with Openda, who scored 28 times and provided seven assists last term, and pundit John Wenham believes he'd be an "interesting" potential replacement for Richarlison.

“I watched Openda in the Champions League a couple of times this year and I was impressed,” Wenham said to Tottenham News, “He has a real mix of pace and excellent finishing ability. He looks like someone who could also play out wide, so he would be an interesting replacement for Richarlison."

European heavyweights Real Madrid are said to be targeting another "special" Tottenham prodigy after their reported interest in star defender Cristian Romero.

Real Madrid show interest in signing Romero from Spurs

Last month, Real started to become heavily linked with a move to sign Romero, as they seek to bolster Carlo Ancelotti's central defensive options ahead of defending their Champions League and La Liga titles.

Reputable media sources like American broadcaster ESPN, via The Daily Mail, claimed Real made an enquiry to Tottenham over Romero - coming after another impressive season in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old was a mainstay under Ange Postecoglou when fit and available, starting 33 league games and forming the backbone of Spurs' team through his partnership with Micky van de Ven.

Romero stood out as one of Tottenham's best-performing players by average match rating, according to statistical football website WhoScored, and sits in good company alongside the likes of Son Heung-min and Pedro Porro.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time his name has been mentioned in tandem with the Spainish football giants, as Real were reportedly eyeing a move for Romero in 2023 as well.

When a prestigious club like Real Madrid comes knocking for a star player, there is usually cause for concern, but Tottenham have responded with gusto - making clear that Romero is not for sale this summer (Pete O'Rourke).

“If we’re talking about Real Madrid, I’m sure he’ll want to speak to them,” said pundit Alan Hutton on Romero's links to the Bernabeu (Football Insider).

“But for Daniel Levy to sell somebody who’s a main player in the team, it would have to be for huge money to allow him to go. They still need more options to come in.

“They can’t allow Romero to leave and not have a top-level centre-back ready to come in for the start of the season. I wouldn’t want to see him leave. I think him and Van de Ven are a very solid partnership and Van de Ven makes him better as well.”

Reports surrounding Romero and a potential move to Real have died down in recent weeks, but that hasn't stopped Ancelotti's side from setting their sights on another Spurs gem.

According to HITC, Real Madrid are interested in signing Tottenham starlet Mikey Moore, alongside the likes of Paris-Saint Germain.

The wonderkid is fast gaining a reputation as one of England's brightest young forwards, racking up 16 goals and registering nine assists in 14 appearances at academy level last season.

Moore was given the nod by Postecoglou on two occasions at senior level last season, making his debut at home to Man City. Amidst this interest from Real and PSG, HITC state that Spurs are confident they can keep hold of the 16-year-old, despite contact from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

It may be about as clichéd as you can get, but last season was a campaign of two halves for Tottenham Hotspur.

Ange Postecoglou got off to a flying start in the Premier League, leading the team to ten unbeaten games before that disastrous match against Chelsea halted their momentum.

An avalanche of injuries followed, and despite looking incredible at the start of the campaign, the Lilywhites eventually limped into fifth place and Europa League qualification.

James Maddison's season mirrored that of the club's as his influence waned as the year went on - racking up just five goals and assists in his final 17 appearances - but based on recent reports, Daniel Levy and Co could soon sign an incredibly exciting player who'd surely help the Englishman's creative numbers explode next season.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham have maintained their interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers' star winger Pedro Neto.

The report claims that the Lilywhites are keen to bolster their attacking options this summer, and while they have some concerns over the 24-year-old's injury record, they are still impressed by his sheer skill and ability.

However, it won't be cheap to get over the line, as the story has revealed that the Old Gold will likely ask for between £50m and £60m for their dynamic wideman, although the prospect of seeing how Maddison and Neto could combine in North London might make that fee easier to swallow.

Why Neto would be a great signing

Now, the elephant in the room is Neto's injury record; unfortunately, as he missed 19 games last season, it cannot be ignored.

However, were he to join Spurs this summer, he could be used as more of a rotational option alongside Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson on the right, so as not to overplay him too much.

That said, every transfer involves an element of risk, and in the case of the Portuguese star, that is his fitness, but with how well he played at points last season, it feels like a risk worth taking.

Opposing teams would no longer be able to focus solely on stopping the Englishman's creative output and would instead have to dedicate players to stopping both stars from impacting the game, thus freeing up that bit more space to operate centrally.

Moreover, having the creative prowess of the Viana do Castelo-born winger to his right would likely help the Coventry-born ace improve his own goalscoring record as well, which would, in turn, help Postecoglou's progressive attacking system flow more seamlessly from defence to attack.

Ultimately, starting an attacking threat as potent as Neto on Madison's right and Son Heung-min on his left would undoubtedly go a long way in helping the 27-year-old get back to his creative best for Spurs next season. While injuries will always be a concern for the Wolves man, his raw ability makes this potential transfer a risk worth taking.

As well as Williams, Spurs are targeting Wolves winger Pedro Neto and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, as Lange compiles a shortlist of options for out-wide.

Meanwhile, Tottenham also want a prolific new number nine who can be the focal point of their team going forward next season, as Postecoglou seeks to transform the Lilywhites into an elite English side after promising flashes last season.

So far, Levy has green-lit deals for Werner and former Leeds United sensation Archie Gray, who arrived from Elland Road to the tune of £40 million. Attacking players like Bryan Gil and Manor Solomon are expected to be sold by Spurs as well, which could free up space for potential attacking additions.

One very highly-rated forward who is on Tottenham's radar is Rennes starlet Desire Doue, who could well follow a similar pathway to Man City star Jeremy Doku with a switch to the Premier League.

The 19-year-old, who made 43 appearances across all competitions for the Ligue 1 side last season, bagged four goals and six assists in all competitions. Doue's teammate, Baptiste Santamaria, has already tipped the teenager to be "unplayable".

"He's a player who aspires to go to the biggest clubs," said Santamaria. "He's one of a kind. He likes to hit the ball but he's solid on his feet. Desire's technical, percussive and physical qualities are quite incredible. When he becomes more consistent, he'll be unplayable. For his age, he's the most gifted youngster I've seen in my career."

Postecoglou really wants Doue with Tottenham in ongoing talks

According to The Sun, Postecoglou is "especially big" on signing Doue for Tottenham, and the north Londoners are thought to be in ongoing negotiations with the player's camp and Rennes themselves.

They do face stiff competition from London rivals Chelsea, though, who are in the same situation - so it appears there's a growing clamor for Doue's services from the English capital.
