Harry Redknapp has been speaking about the dire Tottenham situation and who may be able to fix it in the short-term. Spurs are on the verge of exiting the Champions League, and more importantly, the Premier League.

The North London club are just one point above the drop zone and in the worst form of any of the relegation-threatened clubs. Interim boss Igor Tudor has lost every game, and it doesn’t look as though he is capable of lifting spirits around the club,

There are questions now over whether Tudor will be sacked, and it certainly isn’t out of the question after the shellacking Tottenham received in Madrid. The question then would become who Tottenham turn to, given the short amount of time any incoming manager is likely to have to stave off relegation.

According to club hero Redknapp, two familiar faces should be considered. It’s such a short-term job for someone,” he told TalkSport. “Someone just needs to go in there and give the place a lift.

“It ain’t going to be what you do on the training ground when you are playing Saturday and mid-week. You ain’t going to be out there putting on some super coaching, it’s going to be about the atmosphere about the place.

“Tim (Sherwood) would be a shout now. I think someone like Tim, Glenn Hoddle, even. I’d do it for sure. But I don’t see myself getting it, to be truthful. I would doubt very much that I would be...”

Asked about the current relegation picture, Redknapp added: “Them two (West Ham and Forest) are in better form. West Ham are playing very well. They have hit a bit of form, and Summerville is in good form, Bowen hasn’t scored lately but is a very good player.

“Notts Forest are quite capable at putting a run together and they are dangerous. Leeds are on the verge of it but they have done well and have had a good season. Tottenham are probably favourites, I think, out of the four, and their situation is pretty desperate.”

As things stand, West Ham are in the relegation zone, goal difference behind Nottingham Forest, while Tottenham are one point ahead of the drop and Leeds are three points ahead.

Crucially, Spurs face Liverpool this weekend, meaning they are in serious danger of dropping into the drop zone this weekend.

Tottenham have a great deal to fix as they stare down the barrel of a possible relegation. The last couple of weeks have been a real low point in Spurs history, with the team sinking within one point of the relegation zone and capping a disastrous start under interim boss Igor Tudor with a 5-2 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

It’s still unclear whether Tudor will see out the week, with growing concern about the team’s Premier League position and the looming threat of relegation.

Whatever happens on the pitch, the Tottenham board know they have to fix the club, or at least begin fixing it immediately. Multiple managers have failed to get a tune from this team, and beyond the fact there is a real culture issue, Tottenham have a crisis-level problem with recruitment.

Investment has been lacking at times, yes, but money has still been spent, and other clubs have proven they can do it well for less. Be it Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton or Crystal Palace, there are numerous examples of clubs recruiting well on limited budgets.

Fabio Paratici did a sloppy job at the help in his short-term return before returning to Italy, and now Tottenham need to find a much better replacement. At this juncture, it will be a relief to Tottenham fans that the club appear to be considering a proven Premier League recruiter.

Dougie Freedman is available having left Crystal Palace at the end of last season, and the former Eagles head coach is credited with a run of superb recruitment at Selhurst Park, culminating in a first-ever FA Cup and European qualification.

Whether it is players or manager, Freedman recruited expertly, regularly dealing with big sales like the loss of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Michael Olise, replacing those players faultlessly, and on the cheap.

Freedman identified players like Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton from the Championship, while also achieving success abroad with the likes of Daniel Munoz and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

According to The Independent, Spurs have now made contact with Freedman to see if he will be interested in taking on a similar role at Tottenham and turning around a dysfunctional recruitment department.

Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Igor Tudor risks seeing his temporary stay in North London made even shorter after being thrashed 5-2 by Atletico Madrid in Champions League action on Tuesday night.

The European tournament had been the potential saving grace of the campaign for Spurs with strong showings so far this term helping the London outfit into the last 16. It had been hoped at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that further success in the competition could inspire an uptick in Premier League form.

Tudor was already under pressure ahead of the midweek fixture, having lost his opening three matches in charge against Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace. That had seen Spurs sink to 16th in the top flight, just one point above the drop zone.

Relegation to the Championship now poses a very realistic threat to Tottenham and a fourth defeat for Tudor could force club chiefs into further drastic action. Should the 47-year-old be dismissed, one man linked with the emergency role is former Spurs talisman Robbie Keane.

Robbie Keane has already responded to Tottenham Hotspur job links

The Irishman, who is currently working at Ferencváros, had also been linked with the Spurs post following the departure of Thomas Frank earlier this year. At the time, Keane said: “I think it’s nice that your name is there. Who puts it there? I have no clue. I think it shows you that I’m doing okay. To be even put there, again, I don’t even know, is it just the bookmakers? I have no clue how it works. I’m obviously aware of it, but I’m happy here.

“It’s a fantastic club, unbelievable training ground and stadium. It’s amazing, of course, as we all know. And really good players, good squad of players.”

Keane is in charge of Hungarian club Ferencváros. The head coach won the Israeli Premier League with Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2024 and followed it up with a Hungarian league title in 2025.

The feelgood factor that could come with the return of Keane could be priceless for Spurs, and it’s a move that has been backed by former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson too.

Speaking to Sky Sports last month, Dawson said: “For me, there’s someone there in the making, someone who knows the football club, someone who has got the passion, played for the club and loves it, will galvanise everyone. That is Robbie Keane for me.

“I can’t imagine him leaving, top of the league and in the knockout stages of the Europa League. I don’t know too many managers that would leave for an interim job. Why not give it him on a permanent basis? They’ve tried Jose, they’ve tried Conte, they’ve tried Thomas Frank.”

Atletico Madrid are in a delicate situation as they prepare to face Tottenham in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. Atleti welcome Spurs to the Spanish capital for the first leg on Tuesday night, and they will be looking to make a statement to awaken what has been a rather ordinary campaign.

Atleti have been nowhere near the standard of the top two in La Liga, only head-to-head above Villarreal in fourth place, although Champions League qualification is very likely.

The Champions League and Copa del Rey are the potential saviours for Diego Simeone’s men, and they have already booked a very winnable final with Real Sociedad in the latter. Atleti only beat La Real over the weekend, so they will be confident of repeating the result and taking top prize in Sevilla next month.

As for the Champions League, Simeone’s men will believe they can at least reach the quarter-finals of the competition having been drawn against a relegation-battling Tottenham side.

Spurs are just one point above the bottom three, and while they have been much better in the Champions League until now, they don’t look as though they are in the same league as Atletico Madrid in terms of ability at present.

But there are some complicating factors, and one potential issue for Atletico is that as many as seven players are one yellow card away from a suspension. A yellow card for any of Pablo Barrios, Thiago Almada, Clement Lenglet, Robin Le Normand, Marcos Llorente, Marc Pubill or Giuliano Simeone in the first leg will mean they miss the second leg in North London.

Lenglet and Le Normand are a key part of the Atletico back line, while Marcos Llorente’s quality and work rate is a foundational part of Simeone’s game plan. Barrios, meanwhile, is a key player in the midfield but is unlikely to start given this will be his first game back from injury.

Not only are those risks a potential boost for Spurs in the second leg, but the threat of suspension could lead to some players playing with a little less intensity in the first leg in a bid to avoid suspension.

One Tottenham star has hit out at former boss Thomas Frank, who was recently sacked amid a rotten run of form. Frank left Tottenham too close to the bottom three for comfort and paid the price, but things have only gotten worse since.

Igor Tudor has taken over on an interim basis and lost all of this games in charge so far, leading to Tottenham slipping to within a point of the drop zone.

It’s a disastrous situation, and Tottenham cannot seem to turn the momentum. Tudor may already be fighting for his job, with Spurs perhaps likely to press the panic button again if they drop into the drop zone over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, there is a Champions League date with Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital to prepare for on Tuesday night. Frank at least managed to get a tune out of Spurs in the Champions League, so it’s not going to look good if Tudor cannot.

The portion of blame that Frank deserves for Tottenham’s struggles remains up for debate, with the club’s board and recruitment staff certainly holding a big portion of blame.

But one player who was quietly happy to see the back of Frank was Mathys Tel. The 20-year-old winger was notably left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad earlier in the season, and he found opportunities hard to come by under Frank.

The winger has now revealed in an interview with Zach En Roue Libre that he did not see eye-to-eye with his old boss. He said: “I disagreed with Thomas on my role within the team and he didn’t like me for it. He didn’t look to try and fix things. I was confused why I was on the bench a lot. I felt I could help the team more than I was.”

Tel has struggled for production for Tottenham this season, scoring only three times in 27 appearances across all competitions. He also struggled to make a big impact at the back-end of last season after joining on a loan deal with the option to buy from Bayern Munich, an option that was ultimately triggered.

But the winger is only 20 years of age, and many feel he has the potential to grow into an important oplayer with more game time and starts. He has only started once under Tudor so far, and that start came in the defeat to Crystal Palace over the weekend.

One of Tottenham’s bright young stars has been attracting interest amid some impressive displays while out on loan. Spurs have a bright crop of young players who may be used sooner than anticipated given the current state of the club.

Tottenham are battling for their lives, now just a point above the relegation zone. Igor Tudor may already be fighting to keep his interim job, but he does have a respite of sorts in the form of the Champions League this week, which will at least provide a different kind of pressure.

Meanwhile, club bosses will be trying to formulate new plans to turn this sinking ship around both in the short and medium term. Spurs are going to have to get their managerial appointment spot on this summer, and they need to hit on recruitment.

Spurs have been particularly weak on the recruitment front in recent years, but they have managed to bring in some talented youngsters. One of them is Luka Vuskovic, who has been impressing on loan with Hamburg.

Vuskovic has been a regular with the Bundesliga side, and his performances have seen him linked with a number of clubs around Europe. But thankfully for Spurs, they still have full control over the 19-year-old’s future, with no option to buy in the loan deal.

This week, the player’s agent. Pini Zahavi, spoke to Mundo Deportivo after he was asked about his client’s future. He responded: “I cannot comment on anything at this time. The player still belongs to Hamburg and is completely focused there.”

“I can give an update in exactly two months, that is, after his loan ends and he officially returns to Tottenham.” Spurs have the defender tied down to a deal until 2030.

Atletico Madrid will welcome an important player back from injury ahead of their Champions League clash with Tottenham on Tuesday night. The Spanish giants picked up a big win over the weekend, defeating Real Sociedad 3-2 to keep hold of third place.

Atleti are currently ahead of fourth-placed Villarreal on head-to-head only, level on points, although the clear objective for both teams is to qualify for the Champions League, and each of them have a nine-point lead over Real Betis in fifth.

Tottenham face a big test against Atletico as they look to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The competition has been the only saving grace for Spurs this season, given their awful domestic campaign that has left them on the brink of the relegation zone.

Interim boss Igor Tudor is still looking for his first win, and it would be quite the statement if he was to get it in the Spanish capital . Given Tottenham’s recent form, most Spurs fans will simply be hoping to keep the tie alive going into the second, home leg, be that a narrow win, draw or narrow defeat.

But Atletico have been far from their best this season, and while they will still be heavy favourites against this struggling Tottenham side, they too have some issues they will want to address going into next season, when they will hope to close the gap on the top two in La Liga.

Ahead of this game, Diego Simeone will welcome back an important player in Pablo Barrios, the 22-year-old midfielder who has become a key starter having come through the club’s academy in recent years.

Barrios has missed the last five La Liga games with a muscular injury, but according to Marca, he has returned to training and will be in contention for the Champions League clash with Spurs.

Barrios has 19 La Liga starts and eight Champions League appearances to his name so far this season.

Tottenham are back in Champions League action on Tuesday night when they face La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital. Spurs are on a rotten run currently, still winless under Igor Tudor.

Atletico Madrid are currently third in La Liga and just goal difference ahead of Villarreal in fourth. Los Rojiblancos don’t look particularly dangerous this season, but they will still be favourites against a relegation-threatened Spurs. This first leg will be key in this one, and ahead of it, we have rounded up the latest injury news surrounding both teams.

Rodrigo Mendoza - Out

Mendoza is out until some time in April with a sprained ankle.

Ilias Kostis - Out

Kostis is out for the season with a ruptured ACL.

Radu Dragusin - Doubt

The defender has been dealing with a knock but should be okay to play here.

Djed Spence - Doubt

Tudor said last week: “Djed is out, he's not ready for the game. We hope for the Champions League [vs Atletico in Madrid].”

Wilson Odobert - Out

Odobert is out for the season. It has been confirmed: “We can confirm that Wilson Odobert has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee... Wilson will see a specialist next week before undergoing surgery, and will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff.”

Destiny Udogie - Out

Udogie is likely to be out until at least the weekend, if not next week, as he looks to come back from a hamstring issue.

Lucas Bergvall - Out

Frank said before his departure: “Unfortunately, Lucas picked up an ankle injury, so we keep being very unlucky with injuries, and it looks like it could be a longer one. He's been assessed over these two days, so [in terms of a RTP] timeframe, I'll know more about the next couple of days.” Bergvall is expected to miss around six weeks more.

Ben Davies - Out

Davies has undergone ankle surgery and will be absent until some time in April.

Rodrigo Bentancur - Out

Bentancur has undergone surgery on his right hamstring and he will be absent until at least after the March international break.

Mohammed Kudus - Out

Kudus has been ruled out for months with a hamstring issue. Frank confirmed: “Mohammed, unfortunately, is a bigger one to the tendon in the quad. That is one where we expect him back after the March international break.”

Dejan Kulusevski - Out

Tudor said recently: “He's had really big problems as you know, but he's positive and also the doctors are positive, so we'll see next week how he’s going. We hope [he can play this season]. In this moment, we don't know.”

James Maddison - Out

Maddison is out for much - if not all - of the season with a knee injury. Frank said in December: “It's very early stages. It's still a long-term injury, so it's good to see him out there, but very early stages. There's no specific time frame. It will be a long time, unfortunately, before he's available.”

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe could seek to reunite with former AFC Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke at St James’ Park, should Tottenham Hotspur be relegated to the Championship.

Spurs have slipped to 16th in the league and are just one point above the drop zone after a dismal run of results. With West Ham and Nottingham Forest picking up points, it’s a worrying situation in North London.

Igor Tudor has arrived to replace Thomas Frank but the interim boss has lost his first three matches in charge against Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace. It’s left Tottenham fearing relegation and a drop to the Championship would come with significant consequences.

The loss of income would leave Spurs needing to sell their highest-paid players to balance the books. One of those could be Solanke amid fresh reports over the weekend.

The 28-year-old only arrived at Tottenham from Bournemouth for £55 million in the summer of 2024 but has made just 59 appearances for the club amid injury woes. Solanke remains highly thought of by rivals, with a total of 41 Premier League goals to his name.

The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle United view Solanke as a ‘potential summer target’ to strengthen their attacking options, with a £65 million price tag touted. Magpies boss Howe knows the player well thanks to time together at Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe knows ‘incredible ability’ of Spurs striker Dominic Solanke

When managing the player at the Vitality Stadium, Howe said: “Dominic is someone who has always kept his head down, he’s worked hard, he’s never let any outside noise affect him, he’s been very consistent with his attitude and his work.

“He’s a great lad, he’s got an incredible ability. And he’s had to deal with a lot the other way [criticism]. Sometimes you’ve got to realise that very young players make big moves and moving area and all the things that come with a transfer, sometimes it takes players longer to settle at a new club than others.

“But he’s an outstanding player, I have said that from day one, and he’ll only continue to get better.”

Solanke has now featured in the last eight league matches having recovered from an ankle problem, starting six of those fixtures. Following the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, in which he scored the only Spurs goal, Solanke said: “We've just had a big conversation. We know the position we are in is definitely not where we want to be so we need to figure out how we are going to get out of it as soon as possible.

“We know there's been difficulties but we're not in a position to make any excuses anymore. We need to do the job on the pitch and I think it is easy to say that we want to be better, but we need to make sure we are better on the pitch.”

In other news, Tottenham lining up manager Arne Slot says is 'one of the best'.

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a potential transfer blow to any remaining hopes to recruit Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson come the end of the season.

The 31-year-old was hotly tipped to make a move to the capital in January with his contract at Anfield due to expire at the end of the current campaign. There were claims that a medical had been booked at Spurs but the deal collapsed at a late stage.

The real reasoning behind the snag in that deal has now been revealed by the player himself, and comes as a potential blow to Spurs. The Standard had claimed that the London outfit could well ‘revive’ interest in Robertson in the summer, when he would be available as a free agent.

However, the defender has explained that it was himself who decided not to join Tottenham, seemingly unconvinced by the project. Those negotiations could be even harder this summer given the team’s recent form and potential relegation to the Championship.

Andy Robertson addresses Tottenham transfer links

Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Wolves in the FA Cup on Friday night, Robertson said: "There was obviously interest there - there were discussions had with both sets of clubs. But the decision was that I wanted to stay. We stayed at Liverpool and that was the decision made."

A move for the Scotland international would likely be impossible financially should Igor Tudor’s side be relegated from the top flight, but the player is yet to agree a new deal at Anfield, which will pique the interest of Premier League rivals.

Robertson added: "I was never not committed. I've been committed to Liverpool for the last eight and a half or nine years now and I'll be committed until I'm no longer needed.

“That's always been my mindset. This club has given me everything and I've given this club everything. It's been a fantastic relationship so hopefully that continues and obviously January happened, but it is now gone. Now we move forward and like I said, my focus never came off trying to help the lads on the pitch and in training.

"Whatever was happening behind the scenes happened, and all I can say is that I kept focusing on football. I've always said that [the talks] will stay between me and the club. I don't think it will get played out in public. It is not one of them. I have got an amazing relationship with Richard Hughes and with Mike Gordon and Michael Edwards.”

In other news, Gareth Bale urges Tottenham to make £100m transfer gamble to solve Premier League crisis.
