Tottenham Hotspur picked up a fourth win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, moving Thomas Frank’s side up to third in the top flight.

It’s been a strong start to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by Frank, who was backed with money to spend in the summer. Around £55 million of that went on bringing Mohammed Kudus to north London from West Ham.

The 25-year-old had endured a difficult campaign with an underwhelming Hammers side last term, managing just five goals and four assists. However, he was immediately a prominent part of Frank’s work in pre-season and has started every league fixture.

Wayne Rooney predicts big things for Tottenham Hotspur winger

Kudus picked up a brace of assists against Burnley and Brighton and finally got his first Spurs goal against Leeds United, in a match during which he also picked up an assist. It was an impressive performance and one that caught the eye of Manchester United and Premier League legend Wayne Rooney.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Rooney said: “I think he’s been a breath of fresh air, you look at the stats from the game, he’s first in everything, duels won, successful dribbles, shots, touches in the opposition box, sprints and he’s had a real impact for Tottenham this season.

“He’s got four assists this season, joint first in the Premier League; he’s by far had the most successful dribbles in the league. So, all that was missing was the goal. I think that goal today will push him on that next step. He’s been a real top signing.”

Mohammed Kudus shines against Leeds United

Tottenham Hotspur beat Premier League rivals to the signing of Kudus this summer with West Ham looking to cash in and fund their own spending. The Standard named Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all as rivals to sign Kudus.

Reacting to the Leeds United match, Kudus celebrated on finally finding the back of the net. He said: "It feels really good. Something I've been working on for the past month, to score my first goal and it will open doors for more to come.

“Sometimes it's not about winning the first ball, it's the reaction for the second ball and when I went inside, I just thought, 'shoot in the corner' and I'm so glad it went in.

“The game was less about tactics, it was about great determination and who wants it more because they were running and fighting for the ball. We knew that we had to match their intensity. That's what the game was about and I think every one of us was on top to get the win. I love it, however the opponents want to play, we will definitely match up to that."

Tottenham Hotspur winger Yang Min-hyeok is turning heads on loan at Portsmouth in the Championship, rewarding faith from manager John Mousinho with vital goals in back to back fixtures.

The 19-year-old spent the back end of last season on loan at QPR, scoring two goals in 14 appearances across a solid if not spectacular stay. Yang was involved in pre-season under Thomas Frank but it was judged to be best for the rising star to continue to earn experience in the second tier.

The Star claimed that Portsmouth saw off competition from clubs in France, Belgium and the Championship to bring Yang to Fratton Park. The Spurs forward came off the bench against Oxford United in the first game of the season but then didn’t see minutes in the following five outings.

Yang-min Hyeok on target for Portsmouth

Yang was then handed his first start against Ipswich Town on September 27. He was also in the starting XI against Watford last weekend and then against Middlesbrough on Saturday, with Josh Murphy out injured. In both of those two latest matches, the star scored vital goals for Pompey.

Yang netted after just 5 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Watford and scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Boro, helping Mousinho’s side to four points over those matches. It’s a head-turning run of form.

The forward was given a standing ovation by the Fratton Park faithful when leaving the pitch against Boro, fans showing their appreciation for his work. The player’s goal was a tidy finish from the centre of the box, having made a dangerous run from the wing. It’s becoming somewhat of a trademark move, having scored a similar goal against the Hornets.

Given a 9/10 for his outing by The Star, our sister site wrote: “A player transformed, what a difference a week makes. First Watford and another right-footed half-volley against Middlesbrough, this time from Williams’ excellent cross. Pompey’s biggest threat throughout with his energy and directness.”

Tottenham loan star ‘very impressive’ in Championship

Speaking after the game, Pompey boss Mousinho told the BBC: “It’s about a number of things. Patience first and foremost, recognising than Min-hyeok has been in the country for less than a year. He’s still learning the language and has been in Portsmouth for eight weeks.

“It’s a baptism of fire in the Championship. He had that expose with QPR but didn’t start three games on the spin. He’s improved in every single one of those games. I thought he was very impressive again today.”

The 19-year-old is tipped for great things and there are hopes he can follow in the steps of compatriot Son Heung-min at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Speaking to LondonWorld when the teenager joined QPR, South Korea football expert Joel Kim said: “We want him to be the best he can be and to take Korean football to another level, he’s the youngest player to have been recruited by a Premier League club.

“He’s going to break those records being so young and already making an impact. We are hoping that Son Heung-Min’s ceiling will be Yang’s floor, if he can take Korean football to another level. We’re seeing some promising signs of that for sure, especially with his adjustment to the Championship. We have hopes but it’s too soon to say he’ll be the next Son Heung-min or the next legend. Only time will tell.”

Tottenham picked up a big win away from home in Saturday’s early kick-off, defeating a Leeds United side that hadn’t lost at Elland Road for more than a year. Mathys Tel put Spurs ahead with a deflected strike, but Noah Okafor tapped home an equaliser before the break.

Just before the hour-mark, the ever-lively Mohamed Kudus struck home from outside of the box. His strike took a deflection but may well have been on course to catch the keeper out anyway.

Spurs had gone three games without a win excluding the Carabao Cup, falling behind in each of their last Premier League games, and so Thomas Frank will have been delighted to see his team take the lead twice here and hold on to the lead the second time around.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, match-winner Kudus said: “I've definitely been waiting [for my first Tottenham goal]. As an attacker it boosts your confidence when you score. I want to give my team-mate [Mathys Tel] some credit. I am a big fan of how he trains and how he has kept on going.

"We now go to represent our country and come back with the same focus. This is a big step in the right direction."

Tel, who scored the first, added: “That was a tough game for us. The opponent played very well. We deserved to win because we fought until the end. I worked this week a lot on finishing. I'm very happy for me. I hope I can help the team more and keep going.

"We are always together, work together and win together. I am very happy again about the win and what we showed. We just need to keep going."

Pundits on Spurs win

TNT pundit Joe Hart said of Tottenham’s win: “Of all the things that Tottenham did today, they fought really, really hard for the win and they were up for the battle. Leeds gave a great account of themselves but two moments of magic and they take three points back down the road.”

Fellow pundit and former Spurs favourite Peter Crouch added: “Tottenham are just showing their character at the moment. Getting a late goal at Bodo/Glimt [in the Champions League] and coming here, a tough environment, for an early kick off against Leeds. To come through that shows how far Thomas Frank has taken them in the short time he's been at the club.”

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has hinted at a potential transfer move to sign a Bodo/Glimt midfielder who impressed against the London outfit on Tuesday evening.

Spurs had to fight for a 2-2 draw against the Norwegian side, who they had also gone up against in the Europa League last season. Jens Petter Hauge stole the show on Tuesday with a 13-minute brace in the second half putting the hosts ahead.

Frank’s side did find a way back thanks to a goal from Micky van de Ven and an own goal from Jostein Gundersen with just one minute of the 90 to play. Speaking after the match, Frank was asked for his evaluation of standout man Hauge.

Thomas Frank hints at potential Bodo/Glimt transfer

Not only did the Spurs boss heap praise on the 25-year-old’s efforts, but he went on to bring up a past transfer move for the midfielder. He told TV2: “He was fantastic. I actually tried to sign him for Brentford a long time ago. It was good to see him again. I knew he was good and today he was exceptional.”

When pressed on the possibility of signing Hauge for Spurs, he added: “You never know what the future holds.”

Tottenham Hotspur have already strengthened on the flanks and in attacking midfielder positions since Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou. Randal Kolo Muani, Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons all represent marquee transfers with the loan move of Mathys Tel also made permanent.

Hauge on failed Brentford transfer

However, Spurs could be attracted by Hauge’s natural ability to play on the left, following the departure of club stalwart Son Heung-min this summer. The Norway international has never played in the Premier League, but does have Bundesliga, Serie A and Belgian Pro League experience.

When speaking about Frank himself, Hauge reflected on that transfer move from Brentford. He said: “I had a Zoom meeting with him. We were close a few years ago. We had a good talk out on the field. He’s a fantastic coach who has done incredibly well. It was close once, but it never quite worked out.”

Hauge has three goals and four assists in just five appearances across all competitions for Bodo/Glimt so far this season. He picked up a hat-trick of assists in the 5-0 Champions League qualifying win over Sturm Graz in August.

The winger contributed nine goals and 10 assists last season. He played 90 and then 84 minutes against Spurs in the Europa League semi-final but did not register a goal or an assist in those matches.

Thomas Frank has made a rather frank admission over his Tottenham team selection after Tuesday night’s Champions League draw with Bodo/Glimt. Spurs have developed a habit of falling behind over recent weeks, but they have also managed to come back on all three occasions, and they rallied back to draw 2-2 in Norway.

The last three games have been a reminder that Tottenham still have plenty to improve despite looking much more solid under Frank. Injuries haven’t helped during this period, with the likes of Dominic Solanke struggling with injury, and Xavi Simons is having to learn on the job in the absence of James Maddison.

And Frank himself has no issue in admitting that he doesn’t yet know his best or most reliable starting XI. “I think that's too early to judge, in my opinion,” he said after the game. “You can say we didn't play our best first half today, but I think I made it very clear from the beginning I have a big respect for Bodo, and everyone should have for what they do and what Kjetil Knutsen is doing.

“I think it's also fair to say that we didn't touch the ball in the first half last year either, and it was still 0-0 in that half. I think they were slightly better today in the first half, Bodo, so I think that's more respect to them. I think it's also fair to say that it went quite well against Wolves in the first half, so I know that's a bigger perspective.

“I think overall, you can say with a lot of games, that go-to starting XI you like to find at a certain stage, that's something I'm looking into, which is normal. A new coach, new players, and we still need to do a little bit of rotation.”

Solanke blow

Spurs are also having to rotate because of injury and the sheer volume of games, and it will be interesting to see if more changes are made this weekend when they face Leeds United.

One player Tottenham will remain without is Dominic Solanke, who is undergoing surgery. “Dom has got that ankle issue that’s been bothering him for a little while so now it’s time to make a minor surgery,” Frank confirmed on Tuesday.

“It’s a small procedure, so that will mean he’s not ready for (tomorrow). We will have more news about timeframes after the international break but I don’t expect it to be long.”

Leeds United will be without a key player when they face Tottenham in the Premier League this weekend. Leeds have had a solid start to life back in the Premier League, picking up a respectable eight points from their first six games, leaving them in 12th place and just three points behind Saturday’s opponents Spurs.

Tottenham have been left frustrated by back-to-back draws in the Premier League, but there is generally a positive feel around the North London club, with the team looking much more solid so far under Thomas Frank.

Spurs have a busy schedule, returning to Champions League action last night, and injuries have built up a little again over the last few weeks, which never makes things easy. As for Leeds, they have done pretty well on the injury front so far, but they have been hit with a fresh injury blow in the form of Daniel James.

James came off injured during Leeds’ late defeat to Fulham on September 13, and it was hoped the injury would be a short-term one. But Wales boss Craig Bellamy has confirmed that the winger will remain sidelined for the next few weeks, meaning he will miss the Tottenham game, and he will remain out for the West Ham clash on October 24 unless he returns sooner than anticipated.

“That’s the first I’ve heard of a knee injury. He has an ankle problem,” Bellamy responded during a press conference. “We’ll wait and see, nothing has been confirmed yet so if it’s good, brilliant, but if it isn’t then we’ll adapt. We’re just waiting for confirmation. It’s still too early so we’ll wait and see on that.”

A Leeds spokesperson has since added: “As Wales manager Craig Bellamy confirmed in his press conference earlier today, Daniel James has an ankle issue which is currently undergoing assessment. Any absence is not expected to be long-term and Leeds United manager Daniel Farke will provide a full update during Thursday's press conference."

The Yorkshire Evening Post have since reported that James is expected to miss around six weeks of action.

Leeds boss Farke has praised James this season, saying: "I hope he's a better player working with me for two years. I think he has grown a lot in his personality because he's not the young, potential player any more, he's a proven, mature player. Not by speeches but by his whole behaviour he's taken on more and more responsibility.”

Gabriel turned from villain to hero as Arsenal closed the gap on leaders Liverpool to just two points with a last-gasp victory over Newcastle United at a stunned St James’ Park.

The Brazilian defender had cost his side with a poor decision to go to ground rather than challenge goalscorer Nick Woltemade in the air, as the German striker’s goal was the difference until the 84th minute. Mikel Merino and then Gabriel himself would have other ideas with dominant headed finishes to earn the Gunners all three points in a tough away trip.

Arsenal have had a challenging start to the season which has already included a trip to Anfield, a crunch clash with Manchester City and tough fixtures on paper against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, in addition to a home game against newly-promoted Leeds United.

Having come through that start to the season in second place with 13 points from 18, the Gunners’ upcoming fixtures offer optimism that things could be set to only improve from here. Their rivals at the top of the Premier League may have something to say about that, though.

Arsenal’s next six Premier League fixtures compared to rivals

Next up for the Gunners in the league is a seemingly-straightforward game at home to struggling West Ham United. This may be more challenging than it appears, though, as it will be new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game at the helm and the Hammers have won on their last two visits to the Emirates. In fact, the last time the home team won a Premier League fixture between these two sides was back in 2022.

Following this, Arsenal have two more London derbies to contend against Fulham (A) and high-flying Crystal Palace (H), before consecutive away trips to newly-promoted Burnley and Sunderland and a massive North London derby at home to Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners may believe that they have a favourable set of fixtures compared with their title rivals.

As for leaders Liverpool, a tough test awaits as they head to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea next up. Though the Blues are off the back of a shocking 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton, there is no doubt they will be up for it against Arne Slot’s men.

Following that is the North West derby against Manchester United at Anfield. Liverpool have only lost two of their last 18 league encounters with the Red Devils, but this is a fixture in which anything can happen - and United have left Anfield with a point in each of the last two seasons. Brentford away is after this for the Reds, with home matches against Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest sandwiched in between a mouth-watering clash with Manchester City at the Etihad.

As for City themselves, they travel to Brentford next before hosting Everton at the Etihad. Away fixtures at Aston Villa and Newcastle approach, in addition to a home game against Bournemouth and that massive encounter with Liverpool on November 9.

Arsenal’s bitter north London rivals Tottenham sit just two points behind their rivals in fourth place, with a trip to Leeds United next up before Aston Villa visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Everton (A) follows that, before a tough November run consisting of home games against Chelsea and Man United ahead of November 23rd’s North London derby at the Emirates.

Next six league fixtures in full for Arsenal, Tottenham and rivals

Arsenal:

West Ham (H - Oct 4), Fulham (A - Oct 18), Crystal Palace (H - Oct 26), Burnley (A - Nov 1), Sunderland (A - Nov 8), Tottenham (H - Nov 23).

Liverpool:

Chelsea (A - Oct 4), Man United (H - Oct 19), Brentford (A - Oct 25), Aston Villa (H - Nov 1), Man City (A - Nov 9), Nottingham Forest (H - Nov 22).

Manchester City:

Brentford (A - Oct 5), Everton (H - Oct 18), Aston Villa (A - Oct 26), Bournemouth (H - Nov 2), Liverpool (H - Nov 9), Newcastle (A - Nov 22).

Tottenham Hotspur:

Leeds (A - Oct 4), Aston Villa (H - Oct 19), Everton (A - Oct 26), Chelsea (H - Nov 1), Man United (H - Nov 8), Arsenal (A - Nov 23).

He couldn’t, could he? Tottenham Hotspur are a different team to the one that Harry Kane left behind, however, the former skipper could be the missing piece of the jigsaw that Thomas Frank needs.

Despite a disrespectfully low Ballon d’Or ranking outside of the top 10, the England captain continues to have his name in the mix as one of the best strikers in the world with only the likes of Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe currently keeping up with the 32-year old Bayern Munich talisman.

With an astonishing 16 goals and four assists in 12 games so far this season, Kane is ageing like a fine wine and is showing no signs of slowing down or easing up on Europe’s defences.

Harry Kane release clause opens Tottenham return door

Speaking as part of his pre-match press conference for the Carabao Cup third round tie with Doncaster Rovers, Spurs boss Frank wasn’t hiding the fact that he would love to see Kane back in North London with the cockerel on his chest.

"There are a lot of Tottenham fans, including myself who would like to see Kane back," Frank said, via Sky Sports.

"Personally, I don't think he will do it right now, if I'm honest. He'll probably stay in Bayern [Munich] and continue performing well. He was the top scorer last year. He won the title and he's doing fantastic now. I don't know what he's thinking.

“Myself, I'm a traveller, I like to explore things as well, so he's been here for many years, so why not enjoy the time in Bayern a little bit more. But he's welcome. If he wants to join us, he's more than welcome."

How much would it cost to sign Kane?

Kane might be 32, however, Roberrt Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and company have all shown that age is no barrier for those who look after themselves and who can adapt their game which makes the £54m release clause reported by Sky Sports a bargain.

There was a striker merry-go-round this summer, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Premier League teams getting the cheque book out if the top of the table is tight.

Daniel Levy might not have been entirely popular with Spurs fans, on this occasion though, he has left the club with an open goal with the genius clauses in the agreement for Kane to move to the Bundesliga. Not only is Kane’s release clause affordable, they get first refusal and the chance to match any bids that might be made to Bayern.

With 74 goals in 109 England caps, there can be little doubt about his place in the record books and a return to the Premier League could have Spurs fans in raptures and Alan Shearer sweating.

Tottenham Hotspur won 3-0 against League One side Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. Joao Palhinha and Brennan Johnson got themselves on the scoresheet against the Yorkshire club. Jay McGrath also scored an own goal for their opponents.

Spurs drew 2-2 away at Brighton and Hove Albion in their last Premier League outing. They fought back from 2-0 down against the Seagulls to pick up a point at the AMEX Stadium. Next up is a home clash against Wolves this weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper and defence

Spurs will bring Guglielmo Vicario back into the team against Wolves. He has played in all five of their league fixtures so far this season. Antonin Kinsky took his place between the sticks in the cup against Doncaster and kept a clean sheet.

Pedro Porro likes to get up and down the right flank of defence. He has been on the books at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since 2022 and has since made 122 appearances. Destiny Udogie plays a similar role on the left and should replace Djed Spence.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are the most likely centre-back pairing. The latter has had his fair share of injury issues since his move to England and will be eager to keep his fitness up. The duo will be eager to keep Wolves at bay as Thomas Frank’s men go in search of three points.

Tottenham Hotspur midfield and attack

Joao Palhinha has made a positive impression for Spurs since his loan switch from Bayern Munich. The former Fulham man has slotted into their starting XI very nicely. He managed to get on the scoresheet against Doncaster and will be full of confidence.

Xavi Simons has the ideal opportunity to start against Wolves. He has recently joined from RB Leipzig and is still getting to grips with life in England. The Holland international has serious quality and was an eye-catching acquisition.

Spurs may select Lucas Bergvall from the off like they did against Brighton. At the age of just 19 still, he has bags of potential and will only get better. He has a bright future ahead of him and is still developing his game.

Frank’s side snapped up Mohamed Kudus from West Ham to bolster their attacking department. He was brought in to add more competition and depth to their attacking department. The forward will be looking to show what he can do again against Wolves.

On the other side, Johnson could keep his position ahead of Wilson Odobert after starting against Doncaster. The ex-Nottingham Forest man injects experience and pace into the team. He scored the winner in the Europa League final against Manchester United back in May and will always be remembered for that massive contribution now.

Spurs are poised to go with Richarlison up top. The Brazilian has enjoyed a new lease of life so far under Frank and seems to be enjoying himself. He scored against Brighton last Saturday and will be eyeing more goals to add to his tally.

Tottenham Hotspur delved into the transfer market over the summer to bolster their ranks. They signed the likes of Joao Palhinha, Xavier Simons and Mohamed Kudus, among others, to boost their squad. Thomas Frank was picked as their head coach after their decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou, who is now at Nottingham Forest.

Spurs fought back from 2-0 down away at Brighton and Hove Albion in their last Premier League outing to draw 2-2. Richarlison got another goal against the Seagulls. Meanwhile, Jan Paul van Hecke scored an own goal for the hosts. They then beat Doncaster Rovers last time out in the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur eye Ruben Neves

Spurs were contacted about signing Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves along with Manchester United and Newcastle United in the summer and are being ‘kept informed’ about his availability ahead of January, according to TBR Football. He has been playing his football in Saudi Arabia since 2023. His contract in the Middle East at the end of the season so his long-term future is up in the air.

Reporter Graeme Bailey has told TBR Football: “I am told that Neves thinks there is ‘unfinished’ business in England – he had a wonderful time at Molineux and he is still highly respected. But it is not a given that he moves back to England.

“A return to Portugal would be considered whilst there is strong interest in Spain and Italy too – he is not going to be short of options. It is believed that Neves, given his substantial earnings during his stay in Saudi Arabia, won’t be looking for similar wages – he is in a good position that he will be able to choose the best club for him – this move will not be about the finances.”

Would Ruben Neves suit Tottenham Hotspur?

Spurs could see Neves as someone to bolster their midfield department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth in the middle of the park. He is someone who knows the league already and has experience.

The Portugal international, who has 59 caps under his belt, rose up through the academy at FC Porto. He was a regular for the Portuguese giants at various different youth levels as a youngster. He went on to play 93 games for their first-team and scored four goals before heading over to England.

Wolves made headlines by snapping him up whilst they were still in the Championship. Neves helped the Midlands outfit win promotion from the second tier at the first time of asking under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo. He then adapted well to life in the top flight and was one of their key players before Al-Hilal swooped in.

Neves made 253 appearances, 219 came in the Premier League, for his former team and found the net on 30 occasions. He was a popular figure during his days at Molineux and they were disappointed to see him leave. The player couldn’t turn down the sort of money that was on offer in the Saudi Pro League though.
