Tottenham Hotspur came crashing back down to earth after their progress in the Europa League in midweek as they lost 2-0 at Fulham in the latest Premier League outing on Sunday afternoon.
It is the club’s 15th defeat of the league campaign, and leaves them on 34 points after 29 games - level on points with Everton. Rodrigo Muniz opened the scoring after 78 minutes at Craven Cottage before Ryan Sessegnon added a second with two minutes of normal time remaining. Sessegnon’s celebration was low-key after he spent a number of years with Spurs, choosing to show respect to his former club.
The result boosted Fulham’s hopes of qualifying for Europe next season as it put them just three points behind Manchester City in fifth and four points behind Chelsea in fourth. Fifth spot is set to be enough to earn a Champions League spot this season.
Tottenham’s European hopes lie in Europa League
Tottenham are well off the pace in the race for Europe in the Premier League. They remain in the Europa League after beating AZ Alkmaar last week and know that victory in the competition will provide them with a place in next season’s Champions League.
In his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano was asked if Tottenham will consider Ange Postecoglou’s future after a 15th loss in 29 Premier League games. He responded: “At the moment, Tottenham's full focus is on the present. Especially the Europa League, as a crucial target for Spurs this season. Nothing else coming from sources close to the club.”

Spurs play Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter finals of the Europa League with those games to be played on April 10 and April 17.
O’Hara proposes sack theory
Former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara believes Postecoglou will be sacked if Spurs are knocked out of the Europa League. He said on Sky Sports live coverage on Sunday afternoon: "Fulham are a good side, and they're well organised, but you've got to take the game to them. I understand we've got the Europa League, and we have put all of our eggs in that basket, but the Premier League is bread and butter.
“The standard of the performances in the Premier League this season is nowhere near good enough, and I think Ange is clinging onto his job right now. We've got to play Frankfurt in the quarter-finals they're a good team, they're fourth [in the Bundesliga] at the moment.
"That is a tough game. I think if we go out then, it's probably 'see you later' to Ange Postecoglou at Spurs. I don't see a way back. Is he getting the best out of these players now? We're getting players back fit. The second goal we conceded today - I'm a massive fan of Djed Spence, I really like him, he's done really well since he's come in - but the defending for the goal is absolutely shocking."
