It’s set to be a new dawn at Tottenham Hotspur this season with the arrival of Thomas Frank to replace Ange Postecoglou.

The former Brentford manager is expected to breathe new life into the squad, with outgoings inevitable. Stalwart Son Heung-min has been linked with an exit, which would bring about an end to a 10 year stay with the club.

Son has made a huge 454 appearances for the team, but that doesn’t come close to some of Tottenham Hotspur’s legends with the most appearances.

Tottenham Hotspur players with the most appearances

Glenn Hoddle – 490 appearances (1975–1987)

One of Tottenham Hotspur’s most recognisable former players, Hoddle is still regularly seen around the football scene thanks to his punditry work. Hoddle won two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup with Spurs, spending a total of 17 years with the club having worked his way up through the academy.

Hoddle, of course, returned to manage the club in 2001 after stints in charge of Swindon Town, Chelsea, England and Southampton. Hoddle took Spurs to the League Cup final in September 2002 but lost to Blackburn Rovers. He won the Premier League Manager of the Month award twice while managing the team.

Cyril Knowles – 507 appearances (1964–1976)

Knowles was a full-back ahead of his time with bombarding runs and dangerous crosses in from the flank. He helped Tottenham Hotspur to a FA Cup, two League Cups and the UEFA Cup of 1972. Knowles had a brief stint in management after his retirement, working at Darlington, Torquay United and Hartlepool United, before he passed away in 1991 from cancer.

Pat Jennings – 590 appearances (1964–1977)

The only player in the top five Tottenham Hotspur appearance makers not from England, the Northern Irish shot-stopper was only 10 outings from the 600 mark in a Spurs shirt. A FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup winner, Jennings made the rare decision of joining Arsenal when leaving the club in 1977 but remained loved at White Hart Lane. He later returned to Spurs in 1985 but worked with the reserve side to retain his sharpness for Northern Ireland’s 1986 World Cup campaign.

Gary Mabbutt – 611 appearances (1982–1998)

The defender captained Spurs for over a decade and was part of the FA Cup winning team of 1991 and the UEFA Cup winning side of 1984. A versatile player, Mabbutt could also play in midfield and earned 16 caps for England during his career. He scored on his Tottenham Hotspur debut, in a 2-2 draw with Luton Town and was famously on the receiving end of an elbow from Justin Fashanu, which left him with a fractured skull and eye socket in 1993.

Steve Perryman, 854 appearances (1969–1986)

The midfielder is currently the Tottenham Hotspur appearance record holder. Now 73 years old, Perryman captained Spurs during one of the club’s most successful eras and played an important part in the UEFA Cup wins of 1972 and 1984. He also won two FA Cup titles and two League Cup trophies with the club.

Perryman went on to finish his career at Oxford United and Brentford before moving into management. He worked as head coach at Brentford and Watford before a brief stint as Spurs caretaker in 1994. He was then director of football at Exeter City from 2003 to 2018.

Teddy Sheringham has likened Eberechi Eze’s potential transfer to Tottenham Hotspur to Eric Cantona’s move from Leeds United to Manchester United back in 1992.

The Frenchman arrived at Elland Road in January 1992 and helped them win the top-flight title but lasted less than a year in West Yorkshire before being snapped up by the Red Devils in November 1992 after issuing a transfer request.

He went on to have a major impact at Old Trafford, scoring 82 goals and providing 63 assists before retiring at the age of 30 in 1997. He won four Premier League titles with the Red Devils, along with two FA Cups.

He is widely revered as a club legend at Old Trafford - and Teddy Sheringham believes Eze has the potential to shine at Tottenham the way Cantona did at United.

Teddy Sheringham sings Eberechi Eze’s praises and hails potential impact

Speaking to London World, Sheringham was discussing Spurs’ potential transfer business under Thomas Frank and believes somebody like Eze can “enchance” the current squad.

He said: “I think there are players they can add, still. Players like Eze would enhance that football club. They’re in the Champions League this coming season so they can afford to push the boat out and sign some players with a big stature and reputation.

“I think Eze is definitely one of those that would walk into Tottenham Hotspur and think ‘this is a proper place, I’m going to enjoy playing my football here’. I think he can shine the way Eric Cantona did when he went to Man United all those years ago. He could become the main man at Spurs. And that’s the type of player you want coming into your club.”

Tottenham are interested in Eze, who has a £68m release clause in his Crystal Palace contract.

Time for Tottenham to “kick on”

Spurs will be playing in the Champions League next season after winning the Europa League. They have made the bold decision to sack Ange Postecoglou after his Europa League triumph and replaced him with Frank.

Sheringham feels getting into the Champions League has provided a big boost and has urged them to sign two top players.

He continued: “Well, this is a prime time to kick on. They’ve had a touch with the Europa League win getting them into the Champions League, given where they finished in the Premier League. And now they’re in a similar position to when Pochettino got them into the Champions League final that year. Like then, they’re in a real good place, with a real chance to kick on and get players of a big stature.

“They absolutely should be signing at least two players this summer that lift the football club, same as when Spurs signed Jurgen Klinsmann back in my day. When he arrived at the club, it was a proper ‘wow, what a player this is we’ve signed’ moment. It was a proper move for Tottenham Hotspur. And with Champions League football, they need to start doing that again.

“I think it would be a statement of intent to sign two players of that level. I think Eze can be one of them, without a doubt.”

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank will hopefully give youngster Yang Min-hyeok special treatment during his first campaign in north London and help the prospect fulfil his lofty potential.

For now, Frank and Spurs remain focused on the summer transfer window and recruiting ahead of the Premier League season and a return to the Champions League. One the window closes and the campaign is underway in full, the new Tottenham Hotspur manager should keep a close eye on Yang.

The 19-year-old was signed by Spurs in December and quickly sent out on loan to QPR in January. Yang was afforded 14 Championship appearances under Marti Cifuentes, scoring twice and picking up an assist.

Yang Min-Hyeok tipped for bright future at Tottenham Hotspur

The winger hardly set the second tier alight but there were moments of promise. The forward showed drive and a desire to make things happen, making an impact as soon as he entered the pitch for his debut against Millwall in February.

Speaking about the player’s development towards the end of last term, Cifuentes said: “He’s progressing, doing well. The last two games at home especially, he did well. The impact from the bench against Portsmouth was very positive.

“He’s growing, learning our way of playing and the pace of the game. He’s doing good things and is still a young lad that needs to keep learning and improving some areas. His attitude is top. He is dangerous and has the pace to go forward, get in behind and go one vs one.”

In reality, still a teenager and having just moved to the UK, that loan may have come a little too soon. For the 2025/26 season, Yang will likely be best off progressing by training with the Spurs first team squad and enjoying minutes for the under-21 side.

Yang tipped to follow in footsteps of Son Heung-min

Tottenham Hotspur supporters should be excited. After the player signed for QPR, Korean football expert Joel Kim told LondonWorld why there is so much hype around the youngster in his home country. He said: “We want him to be the best he can be and to take Korean football to another level, he’s the youngest player to have been recruited by a Premier League club.

“He’s going to break those records being so young and already making an impact. We are hoping that Son Heung-Min’s ceiling will be Yang’s floor, if he can take Korean football to another level. We’re seeing some promising signs of that for sure, especially with his adjustment to the Championship. We have hopes but it’s too soon to say he’ll be the next Son Heung-min or the next legend. Only time will tell.”

There can be no underestimating the impact that Son can have on Yang either. Two players with a similar profile on the pitch, Son also knows what it takes to adjust to a new country and can be a father figure to Yang.

Keane Lewis-Potter progress offers hope for Frank and Yang

Frank has experience developing young wingers, with the progress of Keane Lewis-Potter at Brentford an easy comparison. The former Bees manager worked closely with Lewis-Potter, whose more slender build is similar to that of Yang, to create a versatile player ready for any challenge. That adaptability and knowhow is exactly what he must foster in Yang.

Speaking about Lewis-Potter after he signed a new contract in January, Frank said: "I'm very happy that we've agreed a new contract with Keane. He has been through a great development over the last couple of years.

"We know that he's an offensive player - a winger - mostly, but he can play all the front four roles; what he's also turned out to be is a very flexible and versatile player that can play multiple other positions, which he has shown this season by playing games at left-back, where he has done fantastically.

"For me, he is a fantastic Brentford player with a big skillset: one-on-one he is fantastic, his crossing is very good, and the way he helps the team is also so good. There is a big future for him here at Brentford."

Lewis-Potter has been outspoken in praise for Frank too, highlighting how good the manager is with young talents. Speaking about his positional change, Lewis-Potter said: “Thomas Frank called me into his office to speak with him… I thought I was in trouble! But he sat me down and just said, ‘I’ve got an idea’.

“He explained that he wanted me to play left-back and detailed what he thought I could do to help the team in that position. At the end, he just asked me, ‘Would you be okay with that?’. I could have turned around and told him I didn’t want to do it! But as soon as he described the plan he had for me, I just said: ‘I’ll do whatever you want me to for this team’.

It’s too early to be putting pressure on Yang, but Frank has the credentials to help the South Korean reach lofty heights and maybe even become a world-beater.

Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United look set to end their pursuit of Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz with the Cottagers decisive on their stance not to sell the Brazilian.

Newly promoted Leeds United are said to have already seen one bid rejected by Fulham. The Yorkshire Evening Post claims that the offer sent to west London was £32 million.

That offer was formed of an initial £26 million with a potential of £6 million worth of add-ons. It remains to be seen whether Leeds United increase their offer but the Fulham stance is that no fee will tempt them to sell.

Fulham stance on Rodrigo Muniz transfer confirmed

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas took to social media platform X on Thursday to provide the latest update. He said: “Understand that, as far as #Fulhamfc are concerned, Rodrigo Muniz is not for sale this summer. He remains an important part of Marco Silva’s squad, amid the interest from #LeedsUtd and others.”

Muniz is entering the last 12 months of his Fulham contract but the club has the option for another 12 months, which puts the London outfit in a strong negotiating position. GIVEMESPORT had also named Tottenham Hotspur as potential suitors for the player as they look to strengthen ahead of a return to the Champions League.

That outlet claimed that Muniz could be open to leaving Craven Cottage but, given his contract situation, the final decision on that will be the club’s. The striker made 36 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 11 goals.

The forward broke through into the starting XI towards the back end of the 2023/24 campaign, scoring nine goals after the start of February. Muniz was praised by Premier League legend Alan Shearer when emerging.

Alan Shearer praise for Fulham talisman

Shearer told Match of the Day: “He really was a handful. Tough to play against, horrible to play against in fact. That's always a good thing for a centre-forward, that's what you have to be.

"He was strong, he ran the channels, he brought players into the game and he really upset the Bournemouth defenders in every way, in everything he was doing. He was willing to run in behind and on one of the occasions he does it, they get their first goal because of it.

"They [Fulham] got balls into the box for him and he was first to react. He understood the situation and got there first. He was barging defenders out of the way and I really enjoyed his performance. That's what you have to do.

"We haven't seen enough of him because he's been out on loan or injured or whatever it is, but he has got a real opportunity to stake a claim and stay in there [in the team]. He's got to produce that every week now. I mean, they have signed Armando Broja on loan but Muniz has got an opportunity to stay in there if he keeps performing like that."

Thomas Frank may have only just arrived at Tottenham Hotspur but he may be on the edge of a tenure-defining transfer gaffe should he allow club captain Son Heung-min to leave.

The South Korean international is entering the final 12 months of his contract and reports suggest that the club could look to cash in on the player, who has 127 goals in the Premier League. The forward bagged just seven league goals last season and, at 32 years old, is perhaps past his most prolific years.

TEAMtalk last week reported that Son had held talks with the club over a summer exit with clubs in the Saudi Pro League said to be lining up offers. Turkish outfit Fenerbahce are also linked with a £26 million price tag put on the player.

Son Heung-min ‘in talks’ over Tottenham Hotspur exit

Tottenham Hotspur have already brought in Bayern Munich man Mathys Tel on a permanent transfer and there is growing interest in Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze. Both of those players would likely be above Son in the pecking order, but that does not mean that Spurs should sell the star.

Thomas Frank would be somewhat of a clown to let that happen. His arrival at the club comes under enough controversy given that Ange Postecoglou was sacked at a point when his relationship with fans and players was at an all-time high following the Europa League triumph.

Frank will need Son to help his transition go smoothly. The captain is clearly an influential figure in the dressing room and, given talk of unease from players following Postecoglou’s departure, losing that influence would be a crazy decision.

Thomas Frank should lean on Son influence

Should the new manager endure a bumpy start to life at Tottenham Hotspur, he will want Son’s influence. The winger regularly took some of the pressure off Postecoglou, defending and praising teammates to the media when the going got tough.

James Maddison was labelled as a ‘joy’ to play with by Son after he arrived at the club and, last season, the South Korean underlined Dejan Kulusevski’s ‘work rate’ and Cristian Romero as ‘unbelievable’. He’s a calm presence who knows the right thing to say.

Son isn’t afraid to give hard truths either. Frank may want to be cautious when criticising an already fractured dressing room and having the forward to support him in that would be helpful. In 2024, Son reportedly had a falling out with South Korea teammates who left dinner early to play table tennis and Postecoglou backed his player for doing that.

At the time, in words that Frank should take in before sanctioning a sale, the Aussie said: "It was Sonny being Sonny. When you're a leader, sometimes you get in the firing line. That's what leadership is all about.

"Leadership is not about being popular and trying to make everybody happy, it's about when you see something that you don't feel is right then you stand up for it because it's the best thing for the group. I see that in Sonny."

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will have to fend off serious interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United should they be serious about signing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest this season.

The former Manchester United man enjoyed a head-turning campaign at The City Ground last time out. Elanga picked up six goals and 11 assists for Forest, featuring in every Premier League match of the campaign.

Both Spurs and Arsenal are looking to strengthen their options on the flanks this summer. Thomas Frank’s side could see captain Son Heung-min leave the club with Gunners stars Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli also linked with potential exits.

Arsenal and Tottenham linked with Nottingham Forest winger

TBR Football recently named the two north London clubs as interested suitors in Elanga, with Chelsea and Aston Villa linked. The Sweden international is said to be happy at the City Ground but aware of interest in his services and not opposed to a move.

Newcastle United were also named as a potential destination in that report and now look to be the frontrunners, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the Magpies had seen a bid of £45 million rejected by Nottingham Forest.

The outlet claims that Forest have ‘no intention’ of selling their player with Newcastle United potentially having to turn transfer interest towards AFC Bournemouth man Antoine Semenyo or West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus.

Newcastle United bid could force Gunners and Spurs to look for alternatives

Tottenham Hotspur could instead turn attention to Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, if Elanga is off the table. The Sun names the Eagles man as a ‘major target’ for Thomas Frank this summer. It’s added that Spurs have been tracking the player for ‘years’. The England international is believed to have a £60 million release clause in his contract but that there are ‘complex’ conditions in how that fee is paid.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have alternative options with Real Madrid star Rodrygo one player increasingly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Rodrygo will not be a cheap addition and the 24-year-old is also said to be courted by Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Cadena SER now reports that the Premier League does indeed seem the most likely destination for Rodrygo.

The player’s future under new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso is still unknown, having been benched against Pachuca recently. Cadena SER claims that, even if Rodrygo is out of favour under Alonso, Real Madrid will demand a fee of €90 million - or £77 million - to green light a transfer exit. Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta is expected to have a tough time negotiating that down.

In other news, Arsenal set to sign 'amazing' player as their next signing after Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are set to do battle over a transfer move for Brentford captain Christian Norgaard this summer with both north London outfits in the market for greater strength in depth in the centre of the park.

The Bees captain only signed a new two-year contract in March but that may not deter bids from the Gunners and Spurs after Thomas Frank labelled the west London outfit as a ‘selling club’ earlier this year. Norgaard has made 122 Premier League appearances and been the linchpin of Frank’s work at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Frank has, of course, now moved to Tottenham Hotspur, which explains Spurs links. Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to bring in another central midfielder this summer should Thomas Partey leave as a free agent, as per The Standard.

Arsenal and Spurs battle for Premier League midfielder

New sporting director Andrea Berta is close to brokering a deal for Real Sociedad man Martin Zubimendi but, with Jorginho also leaving the club, one addition in midfield may not be enough. Norgaard is the type of profile that would slot in seamlessly to Mikel Arteta’s system at the Emirates Stadium.

Partey’s current Gunners deal is set to expire at the end of this month and it had been claimed that discussions were ongoing over an extension. However, those talks are yet to prove fruitful with no new deal agreed.

At Tottenham Hotspur, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma are both entering the final year of their contracts with the latter particularly downtrodden by news of Ange Postecoglou’s departure and linked with a move away.

Norgaard has known Frank ever since playing under him at youth level for Denmark and the former Brentford manager labelled him as an ‘integral’ part to his system at the Premier League club. The 31-year-old made 34 appearances in the Premier League last term and has been described as a ‘late bloomer’ by Frank.

Brentford star inspired by Martin Odegaard

In 2022, Frank said: "Every team has one or two players that are the glue, that make the team tick, or better, just by stepping on the pitch. Nørgaard is one of the players that does that for us."

In a potential boost for Arsenal, Norgaard has been outspoken in his admiration for Martin Odegaard and the way the Gunners midfield plays. In 2023, he said: “Of course, it’s sticking to our defensive principles and forcing it outside and trying to double up.

“Especially on players like Martinelli and Saka, we know how good they are when they get the ball wide. And then see if we could shut down Odegaard as much as possible, he’s a fantastic player and he also showed today some of the skills that he has. But I think in general we played a really good game and I know that sometimes from the outside it looks like we are under pressure the whole time, but we feel very comfortable and very solid in that low-block.”

Tottenham are expected to sell an in-form player this summer as they look to go in a new direction under Thomas Frank. Spurs are no preparing for a season of Premier League and Champions League football, and they will go into the new campaign under new boss Frank.

Frank will get his chance to put his own stamp on his new squad this summer, and a number of new recruits are likely between now and the start of the new season. But Spurs must balance their spending with departures, and not wanting to lose their best players, they can strengthen their hold of such players by offloading fringe stars for solid fees.

One player who falls into that category is Manor Solomon, who is coming off the back of an impressive loan campaign with Leeds United. The 25-year-old has not managed to make an impact at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and after his solid loan spell in the Championship, now might be the best chance to sell.

Solomon scored 10 times and provided 13 assists for the Whites last season, helping them secure promotion back to the Premier League, and Spurs are set for a big profit, given they signed the Israeli attacker for free. He is currently valued at around £11million by Transfermarkt.

The Athletic say Tottenham are likely to offload fringe players like Solomon, and they expect to make a significant chunk of cash on his departure. Leeds are the obvious option as they look to strengthen ahead of their first season back in the Premier League.

What Solomon and Farke have said

Speaking about Solomon and his title-winning goal, Leeds boss Daniel Farke said in May: “It’s impressive, especially when you keep in mind what happened last season. He;s shown unbeilable consistency. Not in the official team of the season but he's been outstanding with important goals. He always came back and delivered. I don't have to look after him. The fire is always burning, simetimes you have to channel it a bit.”

Solomon, in return, has said of Farke, as reported by LeedsLive: “Daniel was one of the decisions [sic] why I joined Leeds, so definitely it could be one of the reasons why I will join Leeds in the summer, why or not.”

Solomon also said after securing promotion to the Premier League: “This is why I came. I'm so happy to see everyone celebrating. I was taking a risk but as you can see it paid off. I'm really proud to have played for Leeds. This season has been a rollercoaster, so so exciting. I've enjoyed it so much, every single minute with these fans and players. We deserve it.”

In terms of what the winger has said of his own future, he admitted in February: “You can’t predict what will happen in the future, whether I come back to Tottenham, whether I go to a different team, or whether I stay here in Leeds, you can’t predict it, but, of course, for me, the door is really open.”

He added in a recent post on social media: “After nearly a year without football, I couldn’t have asked for a better comeback season and a better ending. I really don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that Leeds United will forever be in my heart. Thank you again, fans, for the unforgettable past few weeks and all your incredible support and love throughout the entire season. We are the champions!”

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal for their next signing of the summer with Japan international Kota Takai to join the North London club from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale.

The deal is worth £5m for the 20-year-old centre-back, with the player poised to be part of Thomas Frank’s first-team squad next season.

That is all according to BBC Sport who say Takai will be among Spurs’ central defensive options alongside Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin. The player has two caps for Japan and made his international debut last year against China.

The 20-year-old hails from Yokohama and has been with Kawasaki Frontale since 2011 before making his senior debut for the club in 2022.

Kota Takai deal is a club record sale for Kawasaki Frontale

The £5m agreement almost doubles Kawasaki Frontale’s previous club record sale - which stood at around £2.6m. That was when Kaoru Mitoma left the J-League side for Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2021. They also sold Brazilian Renatinho to the Chinese Super League for the same price back in 2015.

Some other players now plying their trade in Great Britain have come from Kawasaki. That includes Celtic ace Reo Hatate and Leeds United midfielder Ao Tanaka, who played a key role in the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League last campaign. He left Frontale for Fortuna Düsseldorf before making his way to Elland Road.

Takai has some big names in front of him at Spurs as he looks to become a regular in North London. The deal will provide Frank with some much-needed depth as Tottenham compete on four fronts next season after they qualified for the Champions League.

Thomas Frank excited to work with Spurs squad

Speaking about his plans last week for the Tottenham squad, Frank said: “It’s a very talented squad, a very good squad and I’m very excited to start working with them.

"Of course, when you follow the Premier League, you see the other teams, you see Tottenham - you’ve seen some fantastic performances from the team over the last years. So, I think there’s big potential.

"But, of course, I’m looking from the outside, so I’m looking forward to getting to know them, to be around them, to feel them, understand them, work with them on the training pitch. That’s where you really get the big understanding, understand the relationships between players and how you can get the best out of them.

"I’ve got an idea already, my head is spinning [with] how can we play, how do I put them together, but I’m looking forward to that."

Another market that has also become more expensive is the South American one with Spurs having to dig deep if they want to sign Ian Subiabre according to River Noticias, who claim a “formal enquiry” has been made for a player Chelsea have already withdrawn their interest for due to the demands being made.

The 18-year old winger is an exciting prospect having broken into River Plate’s senior squad but has only played 290 minutes and scored one goal in 12 appearances. A £23m release clause is one that could either be a master-stroke or money down the drain given how unpredictable talented teenagers can be.

There is always an element of the unknown with signing players from South America, but if Subiabre was English and playing in the Championship, Spurs probably wouldn’t think twice about spending a similar amount of money on a promising prospect. At one stage in their respective careers clubs have taken a gamble on teenagers who became greats someone, eventually, with take the punt on Subiabre.

What type of player is Subiabre?

In Subiabre’s own words though, the best is yet to come, as an interview with River Plate’s club media shows where he sees his future and who he compares himself to: “I'm a powerful, high-scoring striker. And strong in one-on-one situations,” Subiabre claimed.

“I like to drop back to link up with my teammates and provide assists. I can also play on the right or left wing.”

“Julián Álvarez is an extraordinary player. For me, he's an example. He works hard in training and displays tremendous quality in matches,” Subiabre said of his role model.

“He has skill, he's a goalscorer, and he's constantly pressing. And he understands the game perfectly.”

Spurs do need extra attacking options and it may be that Subiabre could be signed without the pressure of having to be a first choice player every week. There would also be the option to loan the Argentina youth cap back to River Plate to continue his development and to give him time to learn English before crossing the Atlantic.

Football is a small world, Spurs will know why Chelsea pulled out of the deal, but don’t seem to have been put off despite the well reported release clause.
