Tottenham appear to have found the balance between exciting young talent for the future, and players who can actually serve the first team right now. Heung-min Son has been speaking about two of the brightest teenagers at the club, and has high praise for them.

Postecoglou impressed by Gray and Bergvall

Postecoglou has shown age is no barrier when it comes to players breaking through into his senior squad. Mikey Moore and Jamie Donley got minutes under their belt in the Premier League last season.

Now, in pre-season, we’ve seen a number of other academy products mixing it with the first-team. Most notably, though, are two new signings for Spurs: Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

The pair may not have come through the ranks at Tottenham, but they are making their mark early on in their Spurs career, and they’ve definitely won Heung-min Son over already.

Son told the press (via Football.London): “They’re working really hard every, every single day they want to show who they are. I think it’s just a joy to watch and both of them are working really hard — they just want to listen and just want to learn.

“I think that’s very important at this age because you hope those guys both have amazing bright futures. So, I’m always trying to help the two of them because they just came to a new club and they probably need a little bit of help from me. It’s just a joy to watch. Every single day they impress me with their attitude.”

Bergvall and Gray can have a huge impact for Spurs

Clearly, Son is not concerned with the expectations placed on two 18-year-olds ahead of the coming campaign.

He added: “They are young but they can make a huge impact for the team. These days, with this generation, I think age is not important. I think they should take a big responsibility and that is what they do every single day.

“So, if they do that in the game, I have no doubt they will be very, very good. So, let’s see what happens this season. I hope they will both be amazing players.”

Spurs Web Opinion

These two players are the only reason I’m not losing my mind at the fact we haven’t signed any other players this summer.

They’ve both got the world at their feet, and it’s so exciting to think about what they can do for us, not just in the future, but right now.

Ben Davies reveals how things have changed under Postecoglou

Description

Ben Davies has said that the mood inside Tottenham Hotspur has been extremely positive since Ange Postecoglou walked through the door over a year ago, insisting that there is a feeling among the squad that they can do something special.

Ben Davies enters 10 years at Tottenham

Davies is better placed than most to judge the mood of the squad, having been at the club for a decade since his switch from Swansea in 2014.

Despite being written off by a lot of people, the defender has been a key cog in the Tottenham side under various managers, with the Welshman admitting that being able to adapt to the coach’s tactical demands is one of his big strengths.

He told The Athletic: “I’ve never been the most physical player in the world. I’m not the best athlete, but I’ve had to adapt to different managers and different roles. When I have guidance — when a coach gives instructions — I’m good at understanding why a coach would have that thought process.”

Being one of the most experienced players in a young Tottenham squad, the 31-year-old confessed that he tries his best to set an example to the youngsters on how to behave off the pitch.

He said: “Young players will look up to you as an older player in the dressing room. One thing I’ve always tried to do in my career is behave well and do the right things.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“Don’t be late — I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been late to a lunch or meeting the whole time I’ve been here. These are the little details: the standards in training, the gym, the everyday things that have probably helped me stay at this level for so long.

“Hopefully, it rubs off on these young guys. I hope the new guys see me as someone they can ask advice from if they ever need anything. It can be quite daunting, coming to a big club like Spurs, so having someone to lean on can only help.”

Postecoglou has lifted a weight off Tottenham

Davies has seen plenty of ups and downs at Spurs but he confessed that the feeling around Hotspur Way has changed for the better since Postecoglou walked through the door.

Speaking about the impact of the current regime, the left-back said: “The feel of the players and the external feeling around the club has got a lot better. You can feel it when we get good results playing exciting football. There’s just been a weight lifted off of us.”

“He (Postecoglou) has a real effect on the team in the meeting room when he lays out his ideas very clearly and sets his standards. There’s no hiding if it’s on the videotape. There’s no harsh judgment or deep criticism, it’s just made very clear what he expects.

“It’s a more corrective style. If you make your mistakes trying to do the right things, that’s completely fine because there’s an acceptance that — just like in real life — mistakes happen. He’s more about how you react to them.”

The experienced defender admitted that there is a genuine belief at the club that this squad can achieve something special together.

The Wales international added: “We’re building towards something special and the fans have been understanding. There were times last year when it wasn’t what we wanted.

“We had a couple of tough results, but they stuck with us and can see that things are growing. Hopefully, we can do something special together.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Davies is an absolute manager’s dream, given his versatility, tactical acumen, professionalism and discipline, which is why every manager at Spurs over the last 10 years has valued the former Swansea man highly.

Kulusevski is convinced Spurs youngster has what it takes to go 'straight to the top'

Dejan Kulusevski believes that Lucas Bergvall has the talent and the attitude needed to go straight to the very top of the game, insisting that the midfielder is now in the right environment for him to succeed.

Kulusevski takes Bergvall under his wing

As many would have expected when Spurs secured Bergvall’s services, Kulusevski has taken the youngster under his wing, with the pair seeming inseparable during the club’s pre-season tour to Asia.

The winger admitted that it feels great to have a compatriot with him at Tottenham and that the pair have been able to connect really well.

When asked about having another Swede at the club, Kulusevski told Football.London: “Honestly, it feels amazing. It’s just nice for me, you know, just to speak Swedish, to have a brother that did everything that I did when I was young because he’s from the same club.

“We had the same friends, same coaches when we were young, so you know, it’s cool and life is crazy, you know, you never thought a couple of years ago, but now we’re here together, and competing to win together. He’s a really good player, really good guy, and I’m happy that the club brought him in.”

When asked if he has become like a big brother to the newcomer, the former Juventus man said with a laugh: “I don’t know. You’ll have to ask him. I just know that I’m here for him, whatever he asks, but he’s very intelligent, he has amazing principles in life and that will take him far.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Bergvall can go to the very top of the game

Kulusevski explained that while Bergvall’s talent is there for all to see, the youngster has also showcased the willingness to work hard to adapt to the new surroundings, given the step up in quality.

When asked about the impression the midfielder has made in his first few weeks, the 24-year-old responded: “He’s very good, obviously, like, everybody’s seen him. Then, of course, I haven’t seen him at this level and everything, like, we have to give him time; we have to give him time for a lot of new challenges, but what’s important is that the talent is there and the work rate.

“He’s a good guy, so we, the coaches and the players have to be here for him to help him in any way, if he needs it – maybe he doesn’t need it, and he can go straight to the top from the beginning.”

Like Bergvall, Kulusevski also left Swedish football at an early age to move to Atalanta and the winger insisted that leaving one’s comfort zone at a young age can only be good for a player’s development.

When asked about his decision to leave the Allsvenskan as a teenager, the Tottenham man said: “Yeah, for sure. I did something nobody has ever done, because at that age, they don’t go outside [Sweden], but I thought that was the right thing for me, so it was amazing, like, honestly. I think about it a lot.

“It was amazing. I have friends from all over the world that played in that Atalanta team. It was pretty similar to what we did at Brommapojkarna, so it was fun, and I think that it’s a good thing for young boys to leave all their security at home and try some more difficulty.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think it would be unfair to expect too much of Lucas Bergvall this season as he is likely to have a steep learning curve in the Premier League, given the significant step up in quality.

Ange will want to ease him into proceedings, and we might not see the best of the teenager until next season.

“A big thank you to the fans for your unconditional support. I would have liked to make my professional debut here, this is a really special club for me and my family, but I will keep all the moments and people in my heart. I wish success, luck, and all the best in the future.”

Santiago made the bench five times for Spurs but never got onto the pitch for his debut.

Man United and Spurs are the two clubs to watch in race for £45m star

According to Ben Jacobs, Brentford have now dropped their valuation for Ivan Toney, thus handing a major boost to Tottenham Hotspur and Man United.

Ivan Toney continues to be linked with Spurs

Toney continues to be mooted as one of Tottenham’s top targets, with Ange Postecolgou thought to be keen on adding more firepower to his forward line ahead of the start of the new season.

The latest outlet to make this claim was The Mirror, who revealed a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites are studying a potential approach for the England international.

The report revealed that while Brentford valued their star man at £80m at the start of the summer, they are now ready to accept a lower fee due to the lack of interest in the striker so far.

However, it was explained that Ange Postecoglou’s men might have to cash in on Richarlison before pushing ahead with a move for the 28-year-old.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Man United and Spurs are the ones to watch

Jacobs has now explained that Toney is willing to run his contract down and leave the Gtech Community Stadium on a free transfer next summer.

As a result, the Bees are now thought to have significantly reduced their asking price, with a bid of around £45m-£50m now expected to be enough to secure the centre-forward.

The journalist named Manchester United as the other potential suitor for Toney over the coming weeks.

Jacobs told talkSPORT: “My understanding is that Toney is not against free agency in 2025. Because it might open up a big club who feel there is a bargain to be had by bringing him in on a free transfer.

“If he is to go this summer, it’s understood that Brentford would be looking for somewhere in the region of £45-50 million. Manchester United and Spurs are the two clubs to watch.”

Spurs Web Opinion

With Man Utd having signed Joshua Zirkzee and already having Rasmus Hojlund among their ranks, I do not think they will be too desperate to sign another number nine.

It does appear as if the path is clearing for Spurs to push ahead with a move for Toney this summer.

When, where, and how to watch the Spurs vs Team K

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are on a hot streak in pre-season right now, but they’ll face a stern test against the best of the Team K-League next. Here are all the details on the upcoming friendly and which players may be involved.

So far, Spurs have defeated Hearts, QPR, and the J-League XI, as well as thrashing League One outfit, Cambridge Town, in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side are looking good, then, but there is still work to be done. Now, the team head from Japan to Korea, to take on the cream of the crop in the K-League.

When and where is the game?

Spurs take on the K-League XI on Wednesday, July 31, with a kick-off time of 12 noon in the UK.

The game is being hosted at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

How to watch Spurs vs K-League XI

As always with Tottenham’s friendly matches, you can follow the action live on SpursPlay if you are subscribed to the platform.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Otherwise, you’ll have to wait for the highlights to drop on Tottenham’s official social media channels.

Spurs team news

There are no major concerns for Tottenham, although Lucas Bergvall did pick up a knock in the game against the J-League XI and could be unavailable for the upcoming clash.

Meanwhile, Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies, Richarlison, and Fraser Forster are still recovering from their injuries that occurred in the backend of last season. However, it is only the latter that is a long-term issue.

Postecoglou did not take Sergio Reguilon on the tour as the Spaniard is looking for a new club. There is also a chance that Emerson Royal may be left out of the game as his move to AC Milan appears to be nearing completion (Fabrizio Romano).

There should once again be a strong mix of experienced first-team players and up-and-coming young talent in the lineup.

Interestingly, Spurs will come up against one of their latest acquisitions, as Min-hyuk Yang has been included in the K-League team for the game.

The Spurs Web prediction

Just like the J-League game, this will not be easy at all. These are some of the best players in their division and indeed, in Asia. That said, our players are getting sharper and stronger, and as long as that continues to be the case, we will have enough to secure the victory.

Amanda Stavely directly responds to rumours she could invest in Tottenham Hotspur

Description

The Times have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur’s owners are now in talks to sell a minority stake in the club, but Amanda Stavely is keeping her lips sealed over whether she could invest (Athletic).

Tottenham are open to selling a stake

The Times report says that Daniel Levy and Tottenham’s top brass value Spurs at around £3.75 billion, including the debt incurred.

According to various sources, the Lilywhites are now looking to push through a minority sale, potentially even as little as 10 per cent, with the club reportedly being advised by bankers from Rothschild on the sale.

It is explained that Tottenham are doing this to raise fresh capital for new signings and to help the development of their women’s team, among other investments.

Will Tottenham find a buyer?

The financier Amanda Staveley, who brokered the deal for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to take over Newcastle United, is said to have expressed an interest in Spurs while the club is also expected to attract interest from American investors.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Times report points out that Tottenham’s 62,850-capacity stadium has greatly enhanced the club’s attractiveness to potential investors.

However, when directly asked about the links with Spurs this week, Staveley chose to keep her cards close to her chest. She did admit the possibility of investing in or purchasing a new club though.

When asked what she could say about the Spurs links, Stavely told The Athletic: “Not much, I’m afraid. My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn’t always work out exactly how you want it to,” she replied when asked on talks with Rothschild & Co.

“Nothing is going to replicate that. I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can’t change, but I didn’t want to get in Newcastle’s way. It’s got to be about what’s best for Newcastle.

“Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We’re hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We have known for a while that Levy has been speaking to potential investors regarding a minority sale of the club.

The Spurs chairman might have identified that as the best way to have a major competitive advantage over their rivals in this PSR era.
