The Times have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur’s owners are now in talks to sell a minority stake in the club, but Amanda Stavely is keeping her lips sealed over whether she could invest (Athletic).

Tottenham are open to selling a stake

The Times report says that Daniel Levy and Tottenham’s top brass value Spurs at around £3.75 billion, including the debt incurred.

According to various sources, the Lilywhites are now looking to push through a minority sale, potentially even as little as 10 per cent, with the club reportedly being advised by bankers from Rothschild on the sale.

It is explained that Tottenham are doing this to raise fresh capital for new signings and to help the development of their women’s team, among other investments.

Will Tottenham find a buyer?

The financier Amanda Staveley, who brokered the deal for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to take over Newcastle United, is said to have expressed an interest in Spurs while the club is also expected to attract interest from American investors.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Times report points out that Tottenham’s 62,850-capacity stadium has greatly enhanced the club’s attractiveness to potential investors.

However, when directly asked about the links with Spurs this week, Staveley chose to keep her cards close to her chest. She did admit the possibility of investing in or purchasing a new club though.

When asked what she could say about the Spurs links, Stavely told The Athletic: “Not much, I’m afraid. My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn’t always work out exactly how you want it to,” she replied when asked on talks with Rothschild & Co.

“Nothing is going to replicate that. I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can’t change, but I didn’t want to get in Newcastle’s way. It’s got to be about what’s best for Newcastle.

“Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We’re hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We have known for a while that Levy has been speaking to potential investors regarding a minority sale of the club.

The Spurs chairman might have identified that as the best way to have a major competitive advantage over their rivals in this PSR era.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have now opened direct talks regarding the transfer of Tottenham target Conor Gallagher.

Tottenham were linked with Gallagher for a long time

While Gallagher has been linked with Tottenham for well over a year, it does not seem as if the North London club have made any concrete move for the midfielder so far this summer.

However, there continues to be speculation linking the England international with a move across the capital, with The Mirror revealing on Sunday that Ange Postecoglou’s men are continuing to assess a move for the 24-year-old.

The report claimed that the Lilywhites would have to pay £50m to bring Gallagher to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, adding that Aston Villa had now pulled out of the race for the player.

Atletico make their move for Gallagher

If Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Atletico Madrid have now begun talks with Chelsea over a deal for Conor Gallagher.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist reveals that the Blues have informed Diego Simeone’s men that an offer of around €35m-€40m along with add-ons would be enough to clinch a deal.

According to Romano, the midfielder has now moved to the top of Atletico’s wishlist, with the transfer now thought to be ‘getting closer’.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like Chelsea prefer to sell Gallagher overseas than to a direct rival, which is why Tottenham would have to pay a premium in order to land the midfielder.

It does appear as if the Lilywhites’ interest in the player has now cooled.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has labelled teammate Pedro Porro as one of the top five right-backs in the world.

Porro on fire under Postecoglou

Although many predicted Porro was not good enough in defence to play at right back in Ange Postecoglou’s system, the Spaniard has continued to ignore his doubters.

With seven assists and three goals, as well as scoring the winner against Burnley in the FA Cup third round, Porro displayed his ability as an all-round player last season, filling the void left for years since Kyle Walker departed to join Manchester City (Transfer Markt).

Despite his positive season with Tottenham, Porro was not selected in Spain’s Euro 2024 squad, the team who went on to win the tournament.

The 24-year-old will be looking to continue silencing his critics as he enters the new season as Tottenham’s first-choice right-back.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Sarr says Porro is in the top five in the world

Senegalese midfielder Sarr had a breakthrough season under Postecoglou last time out, managing three goals and assists in the 34 appearances he made for Spurs. But rather than celebrating his own achievements, he has instead decided to praise his teammate this week (Transfer Markt).

Speaking to SpursPlay about Porro, Sarr said: “He has a lot of energy. I like the way he plays and he’s in the top five right-backs in the world for me.”

SpursWeb opinion

Most Tottenham fans on X will be aware of a certain account, which shall not be named, which was recently blocked by Porro after criticising him and saying he should be second choice behind Djed Spence. So, it is nice to hear some sanity from Sarr regarding Porro.

Whether he is one of the top five right-backs in the world is debatable, but he is certainly a great player with a lot to offer.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the media at today’s press conference ahead of the match against Team K League.

Postecoglou has been speaking with the press in Seoul

The North Londoners take on Team K League in the opening round of the Coupang Play Series 2024 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Ahead of tomorrow’s fixtures, the players are also being put through their paces in an open training session at the same venue.

Tottenham last faced tomorrow’s opponents back in July 2022 when they ran out 6-3 winners courtesy of goals from Eric Dier, a brace apiece from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, with an own-goal thrown in for good measure.

Ange Postecoglou’s side arrived in South Korea on Sunday on the back of their 3-2 victory over Vissel Kobe on Saturday.

Tottenham are unbeaten in pre-season so far following victories against Cambridge United, Hearts Queens Park Rangers and Vissel Kobe.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Australian provided an update on the availability of his players ahead of the match and confirmed that Timo Werner, who missed the Kobe fixture through illness is back available.

Ben Davies, who had his first outing of pre-season in Japan has come through the game unscathed, however, fellow defender Ashley Phillips is doubtful.

Udogie will train today – but will not be risked against Team K League

Radu Dragusin linked up with the squad in South Korea following his Euro 2024 exploits and is set for his first minutes.

Destiny Udogie and Richarlison are both still sidelined as they continue their comeback from injury.

Postecoglou told Football.London: “From the other night, everyone is ok. Timo is available. Ben Davies got through fine. Ash Phillips is a bit sore so we’ll have to see whether he can play.

Radu has joined us now and he’s been training. Destiny will train today but obviously he won’t play tomorrow. Richy is still a few days away.”

Tottenham Hotspur secured the services of another promising young talent last week.

Ange Postecoglou speaks about his latest signing

The North Londoners confirmed the arrival of winger Yang Min-hyuk from Gangwon FC on Sunday, following in the footsteps of recent teenage talent Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.

The 18-year-old agreed to a six-year contract with Ange Postecoglou‘s side and will join the club in January 2025.

The teenager has started all 25 of Gangwon’s league games so far this season, producing eight goals and four assists.

Yang scored his first goal for Gangwon in March, with the teenager becoming the youngest scorer in the division since 2013.

Tottenham signed Yang Min-hyuk on Sunday

Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou was asked about his latest signing in a press conference in Seoul today ahead of tomorrow’s Coupang Play Series opener against Team K League.

Yang is part of the Team K League squad which previously also included former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard, until he had to withdraw through injury.

Postecoglou gave credit to the club’s scouting department for identifying Yang as a transfer target, with the Australian believing the South Korean is an exciting player to have within the Tottenham ranks.

He told Football.London: “We’re delighted to have him as part of the club. He’s someone who was identified by our scouting department.

“We’re always looking to the future as well as the present. He’s a very exciting player.

“He’s shown great promise and we’re looking forward to having him as part of the club once he’s finished his commitments with his club now.”

SpursWeb Opinion

The club’s recruitment strategy has vastly improved over the past two years and hopefully Yang is testament to the efforts those put in behind the scenes to ensure Tottenham are at the forefront of spotting exciting talent from across the globe.

James Maddison can't believe the talent Spurs have in the Hotspur Way academy

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has heaped praise on his younger teammates, who have impressed so far during the pre-season campaign.

Tottenham’s talented youngsters

Pre-season provides the chance for fringe players to step up and get some minutes in the first team, and Tottenham’s younger stars are seizing their opportunity in style.

Excluding the somewhat bizarre fixture in Australia against Newcastle, three days after the Premier League season concluded, Spurs have won all three of their summer friendlies, against Hearts, QPR and Vissel Kobe.

And it is Tottenham’s rising stars who have caught the eye, with 16-year-old Mikey Moore netting twice in pre-season, while strikers Dane Scarlett and Will Lankshear have both scored (Sofascore).

And Tottenham’s array of young talent is only getting stronger, with the signings of Swedish international, Lucas Bergvall, and Leeds United midfielder, Archie Gray, while South Korean winger Yang Min-huk will join the squad in January next year (Transfer Markt).

MORE SPURS STORIES

Maddison can’t believe the Hotspur Way talent

Spurs assistant manager, Matt Wells, told Spursplay that Maddison was impressed with Tottenham’s youngsters.

Wells said: “I was speaking with James Maddison; he was saying that he can’t believe some of the talent of our young players.”

Although Maddison will be keen to retain his place in the first team, he will be hopeful that Spurs can hold on to their promising prospects, with Real Madrid, PSG and Borussia Dortmund all recently showing an interest in Mikey Moore (HITC).

SpursWeb opinion

Maddison is spot on about Tottenham’s young players. Although supporters have championed academy graduates in the past that have since struggled, the quality on show at the moment is on another level.

Even rival fans have commented that Spurs are assembling a strong squad for the future. It certainly looks like Big Ange is building something special.

Report: Tottenham still have plans to sign another young right

Football Insider report that Tottenham still plan on investing in a young up-and-coming right-back this summer once they finally conclude the sale of Emerson Royal.

Emerson Royal to AC Milan is close

Football Insider claim that an agreement between Tottenham and AC Milan is now ‘imminent’, and it seems Emerson Royal could leave the pre-season tour of Asia earlier than expected.

The Brazilian has apparently already agreed on personal terms with the Italian giants and, after Milan’s first bid was rejected, the two clubs are now finally close to an agreement.

This backs up what TuttoSport reported this week when they said the transfer of Emerson to Milan would be completed within the next ten days.

However, Ben Jacobs reported today that Tottenham are actually still waiting for a fresh bid from Milan and an agreement has not yet been reached.

Tottenham want a new young right-back

Football Insider say that if and when Tottenham do complete the sale of Emerson Royal, they plan on reinvesting the money into a new up-and-coming right-back.

The club are said to be looking for someone ‘who can develop under Postecoglou over a longer period.’

It remains to be seen what part Djed Spence will play in Tottenham’s plans, or their need for a new right-back in general, with the former Middlesbrough man enjoying a terrific pre-season so far.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think Spurs will hold off on signing a new right-back for the time being, with Djed Spence impressing and Archie Gray able to cover there.

That could be a move they revisit in January if anything changes, but there are other priority positions to concentrate on. I would actually prefer a new left-back to a right-back at the moment.

Description

Archie Gray has been speaking about his first few weeks at Tottenham Hotspur and the role Son Heung-min has played in helping him feel at home at the club.

Archie Gray is settling in at Tottenham

Gray already looks at home at Spurs, with the youngster appearing to get along well with his new teammates since making the move from Leeds.

The 18-year-old admitted that he is settling in well in his new surroundings and praised his teammates for the way efforts they have made to make him feel welcome.

The youngster told Football.London: “I’m really enjoying it and everyone’s been brilliant with me so far. I wouldn’t say I’m the hardest guy to get along with, I’m pretty laid back and pretty easy to speak to, but everyone’s been amazing with me and I’m enjoying the first few weeks.”

Heung-min Son has taken Gray under his wing

Gray revealed that Son Heung-min, in particular, has gone out of his way to help him feel welcome, explaining that Joe Rodon had asked the Spurs captain to help him out.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The teenager has been blown away by the South Korean in training, opining that the forward has no weaknesses in his game.

Gray said about Son: “On the pitch and off the pitch, he’s been helping me, it’s just little things. He is really good friends with Joe Rodon and last year when Joe was at Leeds I was probably the closest with Joe when he joined and I think when I came here Joe told Sonny to look after me a little bit.

“He’s making me feel really welcome and just with little things like helping me speak to everyone and helping me into the group.”

“There’s nothing that he could improve on. Every day he sets the standard in training and I look up to him and I feel like I’m lucky to have a player like that in the team and for him to be captain is just incredible.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him. You know his quality in games, he’s been showing it for ten years now and internationally he’s been amazing. I don’t usually like speaking that highly of people in the same team as me, because it feels weird, but he’s incredible.”

Finally, the new Tottenham man confessed that the step in quality from Leeds to Spurs is considerable, but insisted that he has been enjoying the challenge so far.

He said: “Yeah, definitely [it’s a step up]. It’s the manager’s style of play. Just end-to-end stuff and it’s been really intense training and I think it’s been really good for everyone, you know, to get the fitness levels up, but for me to get used to the style of football has been a big thing and I’ve been enjoying it so far.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We are so lucky to have Son as the club captain as the South Korean always seems to go out of his way to make the newcomers feel at home. When the best player in the team is as selfless as the 32-year-old is, that sets the tone for the whole dressing room.

Rumoured Spurs target reveals he plans to stay at current club for another season

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of targets during the summer window, however, one name who was rumoured to be of interest will not be on the move this summer.

No move will take place for Forest player this summer

Spurs raided Nottingham Forest last season to bring Brennan Johnson to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it appears that one of his albeit, very brief former team-mates will not be making the move south.

Central defender Murillo has confirmed that he will remain a Nottingham Forest player for the season ahead despite having been heavily linked with a move away from the City Ground.

The Athletic claimed last month that Forest were expecting to sell the Brazilian this summer, however, that appears not to be the case as things stand.

Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold, also last month, confirmed that Tottenham have been scouting the defender as one potential option to bolster their options at the back.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Murillo will remain at Nottingham Forest

The left-sided central defender revealed his desire to play in the Champions League in the future, but believes for now that regular football at Forest is in the best interests of his development.

He said in an interview with The Telegraph: “I need regular game-time and really feel that with Forest I’m in the best place for my career,” he said.

“Staying here for another season will enable me to mature as a player and eventually become better prepared if the chance ever comes to play at another level one day.

“Of course I want to eventually play in the Champions League. When I was growing up I’d play video games and play with all those teams. Whenever I hear that classic music before the games it moves me, and it would be a dream to play in that competition.

“But I’ve been focusing on my work here 100 per cent and I just want to do my best. Forest is a massive club in its own right and I feel good here.

“It was a season where I learned a lot and at first I wasn’t sure whether I would prove my value. I always believed in my potential but was questioning myself. With a lot of work I managed to have a good season and, God willing, it will be even better this season.

“I still believe I can do better. As a team we also believe we will fight for a better position and have higher ambitions.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Regular game time at Tottenham would have been a challenge for Murillo given the fact he has Micky van de Ven ahead of him in the pecking order.

Tottenham are best-placed to spend £40-odd million on more critical targets such as a central striker who can contribute 15+ goals a season, rather than adding cover from the bench. We need players who can improve our starting XI.

Description

According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur may look to bring in another midfielder this summer – one who offers Ange Postecoglou something a little different in the centre of the park.

Postecoglou wants proven players

The report says that after having secured some top young talent this summer, Ange Postecoglou now wants to add proven quality to his squad, with the Lilywhites said to be looking at players who have experience in the Premier League.

One of the names on their list is thought to be Toney, with the report claiming that Brentford have now lowered their £80m valuation of the marksman after he failed to attract any bids.

However, it is explained that Tottenham may have to cash in on Richarlison in order to fund any moves for the Bees star.

Another midfielder could arrive

The report claims that despite the arrival of both Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, Spurs could also look to bolster their squad with another midfielder who could bring ‘something a little different’ to what they already have.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It is said that Gallagher fits the bill for what Postecoglou is looking for and that the North London club could consider a move for the former Chelsea man.

The outlet explains that Spurs no longer have to worry about competition from Aston Villa for the 24-year-old after Unai Emery’s men secured Amadou Onana from Everton.

The publication adds that the Blues value Gallagher at £50m but Tottenham are not expected to face any challengers should they press ahead with an approach for the Chelsea man.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Hojbjerg having left and with there being question marks about whether Bentancur would be able to return to his best, I have no doubts that Ange would want to bring another midfielder through the door this summer.
