Tottenham Hotspur have today confirmed the departure of Bryan Gil, who has joined Girona on loan for the 2024/25 season. And, there are key details involved in the deal that could lead to the Spaniard’s permanent exit in the near future.

Bryan Gil to Girona confirmed

Rather unsurprisingly, Gil had been deemed surplus to requirements by Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou, and the player himself had made it very clear that he would like to leave the club this summer.

Now, the club can confirm a deal has been struck with La Liga side Girona to take Gil on loan for the upcoming campaign.

The announcement reveals that Gil will remain with Girona for the full 2024/25 season.

The finer details of Bryan Gil’s loan

As per Fabrizio Romano last week, when he gave the deal the ‘here we go’ treatment, the nature of the arrangement is thought to give Girona priority over a permanent transfer next summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Gil is believed to have signed a new contract with Spurs, including a €15m (£12.67m) release clause. Other clubs can activate this if Girona do not wish to, and the ultimate decision will lie with the player himself.

Romano also claimed over the weekend that the deal would be completed on Monday, July 29, with only official paperwork left to resolve.

This move to Girona marks the third La Liga club Gil has spent time on loan with in the three years since he joined Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s a shame we couldn’t get a permanent switch sorted out this summer for Gil, as it’s so clear his future does not lie with Spurs.

But, he’s gone, and will have a chance to show what he can do out there and hopefully secure a full transfer for next summer.

Lucas Bergvall is setting his sights very high for the upcoming season, asserting that he wants to help Tottenham Hotspur win the Premier League title.

Lucas Bergvall is settling in at Spurs

While some Spurs fans are understandably a little anxious at the lack of big names to arrive through the door this summer, there is certainly plenty of excitement around the youngsters that the club have acquired.

Bergvall is one of those, having already shown glimpses in pre-season of the kind of talent that saw him being heralded as one of the best young players to come out of Swedish football over recent years.

There were some concerns about the midfielder when he came off with an injury during the friendly against QPR but he was able to shake that off and play a part in Tottenham’s win over Vissel Kobbe on Saturday.

When asked about his injury, Bergvall told Football.London: “Yeah, everything is ok. It’s alright. It was just a little bit with my bone here (points to his hip). It was nothing, but just to be sure [I came off] to not get any worse.”

The 18-year-old faces a massive challenge in adapting to the Premier League, which represents a huge leap in quality compared to the Allsvenskan, and he admitted that the pace of the game has been considerably higher in his first few weeks at Spurs.

When asked about his early impressions, the teenager said: “It’s a lot faster! It’s what I expected. It’s new for me and I just want to get into it and learn as fast as possible.

“There’s a lot of new first impressions, of course, new people and guys on the team. I’ve been really excited to be here and train. It’s tough but fun of course. It’s been good. The first few days here have had a lot of training and I’ve been getting to know everyone in the group. It’s been good.”

Bergvall wants to win the league with Tottenham

Bergvall was not shy of setting his aims high when asked to outline his ambitions ahead of his first season at N17.

The midfielder said: “My first goal is to make my Premier League debut and then to come into the team and win something, to have a good season and qualify for the Champions League and also the goal is to win the league.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This will be music to the years of Spurs fans. The fact that Bergvall is admitting this publicly is evidence that Postecoglou has made it clear to the players that they will be aiming to compete for the title this season.

Description

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are still continuing to explore moves for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Wolves’ Pedro Neto.

Tottenham want another attacker this summer

Tottenham have added plenty of young talent to their squad, with the likes of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Yang Min-hyuk arriving through the door, with the latter set to link up with the squad in January.

However, Ange Postecoglou will still want to add some proven top-class talent to his squad before the start of the new season if he harbours ambitions of competing with the best sides in the Premier League.

Romano has now revealed that the Tottenham head coach is keen to bolster his attack and that the Lilywhites are expected to sign at least one big-name attacker this summer.

Spurs still like Eberechi Eze and Pedro Neto

He named Eze and Neto as the two players that the North London club are still studying, although he made it clear that a deal for either player is not imminent at the moment.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Romano told GiveMeSport: “Tottenham are exploring the market and are exploring several possibilities at the moment. Still, no name is imminent, but there is interest in several players, like Eze at Crystal Palace and Pedro Neto at Wolves, who has many admirers in the Premier League.

“Tottenham want to do something in the offensive positions and I think it could be soon because their idea is to add one more player for Ange Postecoglou.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ange will be pretty keen on bringing a couple of big names through the door as early as possible as he would want the new arrivals to have some time to adapt to his methods.

Tottenham thus have to now make a couple of big moves over the next week or two.

Chris Waddle urges Levy to sign attacker

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of top players from the Premier League already this summer, but one longstanding target is yet to be acquired. Now, former Spurs star, Chris Waddle, has urged the club to make a deal happen.

Eberechi Eze fits the profile

It has been one of the big transfer sagas of the summer for Spurs already, as links to Eberechi Eze continue to run almost every day. But, he is still a Crystal Palace player.

Waddle wants Tottenham to change that, as he told The Sunday Mirror (28/07/24, page 71): “He’s a great talent. I think he’d mainly be used in a wide role. He’s got pace, grace and balance. The Spurs fans would love to watch him. He’s definitely a Tottenham player. He would be a great addition.”

Sadly, for Spurs fans, little progress has been made on this particular deal. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano at least, who claimed no formal offer has been made to Palace, while the Lilywhites are just one of the big clubs in the Premier League monitoring Eze.

Romano added that Spurs have been in contact with Eze’s agent as far back as February of this year.

MORE SPURS STORIES

How much will it take?

Striking a deal for Eze will not be easy. Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport that Palace are keen to keep their star man this summer, and the nature of his release clause makes things ‘complicated’ for a transfer to occur.

It is thought Eze would be allowed to leave Palace for £60m as part of a gentleman’s agreement release clause, but the Eagles would want that fee paid upfront rather than in instalments (The Times).

Spurs Web Opinion

I really like Eze and I do hope we manage to sign him. The longer this goes on, however, the less likely I think it is to happen.

I had thought we might be able to get this wrapped up quickly after Euro 2024, but I would imagine we are not willing to pay that £60m.

Report: Agent flies to London and there 'has been contact' from Spurs and Chelsea

The next few days could be pivotal for one Tottenham target, as the player himself comes face to face with his current club manager for the first time, while his agent spends time in London holding talks with Spurs and Chelsea regarding a potential transfer.

Crunch time for Chiesa

Federico Chiesa‘s future at Juventus is very much in doubt, with his contract entering its final 12 months and the player reportedly looking to find a new challenge outside of Italy.

Now, a report from CalcioMercato reveals Chiesa is heading into an important period of the summer, as he finally meets with his new manager at Juventus, Thiago Motta, for the first time.

Motta replaced Massimiliano Allegri at the Turin club this summer, but with Chiesa taking part in Euro 2024 and subsequently missing Juventus’ pre-season tour of Germany, the pair have not crossed paths until now.

The report claims Motta has been “very cold” with Chiesa and it is very much believed the coach does not see the Italian winger as part of his project.

It is thought there are “clear distances” between club and player when it comes to negotiating a new deal, and for this reason, Juventus know they must cash in this summer or lose Chiesa for nothing next summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Chiesa himself would like a “central role” in the new Juventus project, but that cannot be guaranteed, and Motta sees the 26-year-old as “expendable.”

What does Chiesa want?

It is said Chiesa has instructed his agent to find him a move to a club taking part in the Champions League and that he is very open to playing abroad after spending his whole career in Italy.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United are cited as options, but it is revealed Chiesa’s agent is currently in London where there “has been contact” with Tottenham and Chelsea.

Juventus are thought to want €25-30m (£21-25.3m), but would be “willing to negotiate lower” as they are keen to get Chiesa’s salary off the wage bill this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t know why, but this just has Chelsea written all over it.

We hear Chiesa was not and is not among the top targets for Spurs, and I don’t think we will make a move for him, which will leave him with fewer options, and we know Chelsea like to sign players of Chiesa’s profile.

Alan Hutton backs Spurs to make move for Conor Gallagher alternative

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton believes that the club should look to move for a new midfielder this summer.

Hutton believes a move for Man Utd player would be good business

Following the departure of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Marseille on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy, Tottenham are currently one senior midfielder short within their ranks.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher in recent weeks, however, a deal has failed to materialise as of yet (GiveMeSport).

Another player to said to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer is Scotland and Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

The Sun claimed earlier this month that Tottenham were looking to rival Fulham to land the 27-year-old, with United wanting at least £40m before they even consider selling him.

Hutton backs Tottenham move for Scott McTominay

Hutton believes that McTominay’s style would be a good fit for what Ange Postecoglou demands from his players.

He told Football Insider: “I think it would suit him because he’s high energy, and that’s when you get the best of him.

“You see from Scotland games when he’s allowed to burst forward when he’s allowed to get forward, he can score goals and he can assist.

“He can close down, he wins the ball back high up the pitch and I think that’s what Ange likes.

“You see him doing it a lot for Scotland, he doesn’t do it as much for Manchester United because he’s being asked to play a different type of way.

“Fees, it’s going to be probably £30million or above, with the experience that he’s got, he’s still at a decent age he’s got a lot of football in him.

“He gives you something else.

“We talk about Conor Gallagher and how much he’s worth, and he’s a little bit younger to be fair, but Scott McTominay gives you the same kind of attributes as well.

“He would be a real good addition to an Ange team and he would fit in seamlessly.”

SpursWeb Opinion

When a transfer fee in the region of £40million is being mentioned for Scott McTominay and Tottenham already have Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray looking to prove themselves next season, that amount of money would be best put towards a move for the likes of Eberechi Eze.

Pundit urges Tottenham to move for 28

Tottenham Hotspur have been urged to move for a Premier League-proven striker to improve their attacking options.

Tottenham’s search to replace Harry Kane continues

Ange Postecoglou had little time to look to try to fill some of the void left by Harry Kane last summer when he joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on the cusp of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The Australian has used Heung-min Son mostly down the middle following Kane’s exit, with Richarlison also deputising as and when he has been available amid his injury issues.

Former Ipswich and Newcastle midfielder Darren Ambrose, who is also a boyhood Spurs fan believes that Ivan Toney should be the man to arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Toney is within the final twelve months of this contract at Brentford, who value the striker in the region of £50milion (GiveMeSport).

The Bees will likely to be reluctant to see Toney depart after his replacement Igor Thiago is expected to be out for months after suffering a knee injury during a pre-season friendly against AFC Wimbledon earlier this month.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Brentford’s striker situation has become complicated

Ambrose told talkSPORT: “He (Toney) oozes confidence, and I think Ange Postecoglou could do with someone like that.

“Richarlison came in from Everton, good signing, can he be the one to score goals? I am not a huge fan of Son in the number 9 role.

“He is so effective from the left, and you need your best players playing in the places they are most effective.

“So, to get him on the left, you need a number 9. I think Ivan Toney could really work with the way Ange Postecoglou likes to play.

“He will get chances, and 10, 15 more goals and you are seeing a top-three side there, more goals than last season, and you are seeing a top-three side there.

“Oozes confidence, had a good Euros, good impact. If he came in, it’s probably his last chance saloon basically for a big club. I would be relatively confident that he would do really well at Spurs.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Brentford are likely to dig in their heels to demand a fee of over £50m for Toney, especially due to Thiago’s injury which would leave them without a striker if the England international departed.

Lille’s Jonathan David, who is also in the final year of his contract, would be more attainable at a £20million fee.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that AC Milan will hold a final round of talks today with Tottenham Hotspur with the hope of clinching a deal for Emerson Royal.

AC Milan and Spurs continue transfer talks today

Milan’s negotiations with Spurs over a deal for Emerson Royal have been ongoing for well over a month but it now finally appears that the two sides are close to coming to a full agreement over the right-back’s transfer.

Last week, Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that the two clubs are now closer than ever to sorting out their differences and that the player was just a ‘step away’ from sealing a move to the San Siro.

This was subsequently backed up by TuttoSport, who said that the Rossoneri expect the 25-year-old to sign on the dotted line within the next ten days and seal his departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Romano has now become the latest journalist to provide an update on the saga, confirming that Emerson is expected to be a AC Milan player by the end of this week.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Emerson Royal is expected to join AC Milan this week

The journalist explained that the two clubs will hold further talks today, with the Serie A giants confident of pushing the deal through.

Emerson is currently with the Tottenham squad in South Korea as they continue their pre-season preparations.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham clearly had no intention of dropping their asking price significantly and it looks like their decision to play hardball has worked, with Milan now back at the negotiation table.

With all three parties wanting this deal to go through, I would expect it to be finalised fairly swiftly.

Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer activity is continuing to take shape with just over a month left of the summer window.

There could be another outgoing at Tottenham shortly

Emerson Royal’s current situation at Tottenham continues to attract plenty of column inches in the media and today has been no different.

Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has shared his latest understanding of the Brazilian’s potential move to AC Milan.

The Tottenham defender has been heavily linked with a move to the Serie A giants for a number of weeks, however, a move has yet to materialise.

Sky Italia reported earlier this week that both clubs had made some progress over their negotiations for the 25-year-old with their latest offer being £12.7million.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Emerson Royal is on the verge of AC Milan move

In an interesting development, Di Marzio has now revealed that Royal is now just a ‘step away’ and has never been closer to completing the transfer.

Royal has already agreed personal terms with AC Milan, who will play in the Champions League next season after finishing in second place in Serie A.

Milan’s urgency comes after current full-back Alessandro Florenzi picked up a serious kne injury in their pre-season friendly against Manchester City in the USA.

SpursWeb Opinion

It looks likely that this deal will get wrapped up at some point this week with the Italian side needing reinforcements to improve their options at right-back.

Former Premier League midfielder Kevin Nolan has backed Tottenham Hotspur to make a move for talented Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Eberechi Eze to Tottenham?

Tottenham have been linked with a potential move for Eberechi Eze all summer long (TEAMtalk), with Fabrizio Romano even revealing that the Lilywhites have been in touch with his agents since February.

With his ability to play as an attacking midfielder or on the left wing, Eze has caught the eyes of many for his vision, skill on the ball and ability to create space for his teammates through his off-the-ball runs.

Managing 11 goals and four assists in 27 Premier League appearances last season, it is no wonder Eze is in demand (Premier League).

The 26-year-old was recently left unsettled when Michael Olise left Crystal Palace to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, causing him to consider his future at the South London club (HITC).

But with three years remaining on his contract, securing Eze’s signature will not be easy, with Palace setting a £60 million release clause in his deal, plus add-ons (The Mail).

MORE SPURS STORIES

Should Spurs make a move for Eze?

Nolan, who most recently acted as a coach at West Ham praised Eze on during a recent appearance on talkSPORT (24/07/24 at 8:25 am) and backed Spurs to make a move for the highly-rated attacker.

He said: “I think he [Eze] would be a fantastic fit [at Tottenham]. He’s an unbelievable player. I really like him. We played him in COVID, in a friendly, when he was at QPR.

“After all the lads, you know when lads come in and they have played against him, and it was like ‘what a player’, then he ended up going to Palace. What a signing he has been for them.”

SpursWeb opinion

Eze is not the only England international to have been liked with Tottenham this summer and it would be good to have players representing Spurs in the national side again.

He is a quality player and a move to Tottenham could be exactly what he needs to take his career to the next level.
